I will give him credit for responding promptly when I first contacted him and for communicating well before the appointment. Unfortunately, the in-person experience was very different. From the beginning of the visit, he was defensive and unpleasant. At one point, I asked a simple question about why he had run water in a sink with no hot water, and he immediately responded by telling me that he was doing his job and knew how to do his job. I was understandably ruffled by that point, but I kept my voice calm and was never accusatory. I simply asked if we could take the tension down a notch. His response was, "You know how I'm taking it down a notch? I'm leaving," and he abruptly ended the appointment. Several caregivers were present and witnessed the interaction, and they also felt that he had been rude from the beginning. I would not feel comfortable having someone with that demeanor in my home again. At a minimum, the energy was hostile and unprofessional. The whole interaction was honestly just very strange. I generally get along extremely well with service professionals and almost always leave positive reviews, so this is a first for me. .

My washing machine stopped working, so I called or emailed at least 10 appliance repair companies. Bogart Appliance is the only company that actually called back. I spoke with Chris, who walked me through some steps over the phone and had me send him a video of what happened when I tried to use the machine. He let me know that he prefers to diagnose a problem in person, but he could tell the motor was shot and the machine not worth fixing. Anytime someone who could make money by doing a quick service call instead offers their expertise by phone to save the (new!) client money, they have earned my trust. Thank you, Bogart Appliance!

I was referred to Jose at Bogart Appliance Repair by a friend of mine who works in a kitchen…read moreappliance store. My refrigerator had broken and I was urgently looking for someone to come out and repair it. I left a voicemail for Jose and he called me back within 30-60 minutes and we scheduled for between 1-3 pm that afternoon (which was a few hours after our phone call). He told me it would cost $150-$300 depending on which parts he needed to replace. As promised, he called right before coming and arrived wearing what looked like an N95 mask equivalent, which I was appreciative of. I was able to fix my refrigerator within 30 minutes or so. It cost me $230 (he replaced the defrost heater), and that was money well spent! That price was actually 1/3 of what I had been quoted by someone else - the other company said he'd be replacing 4 different parts for $675 before even coming to see what was wrong! Thank you Jose!!! Oh, and p.s. that night, we found some water pooling around the fridge. It was 10 pm and I called Jose and left a voicemail. He texted me within minutes to tell me it was just the defrost process and to just put towels around it. I was very happy that he would check his voicemails so late at night and respond. When he came he cleaned the chimney and serviced the fire box for the Jotul woodburning insert. Then he serviced our Heat N Glo gas fireplace. After he left I noticed the gas fireplace was not operating by the remote switch as it had been previously. I had asked for two receipts, one for the woodburning fireplace insert and another for the gas fireplace, which was promised to come by email. After a few days I tried to call Simple Sweeps to get the receipts as promised, but there was no response to calls or texts. A few days later, a heat exchange pipe fell out of the chimney of the fireplace insert while putting a log on the fire. I hope that this unfavorable review gets their attention and they contact me to correct the problems and provide me with the receipts I am entitled to.

I have used Tom Hardisty several times now for a plumbing emergency and then for general…read moremaintenance. I have finally found my Go To plumber, and I am relieved knowing I have Tom to call. He is extremely honest and charges very fair prices, unlike those big plumbing companies who send out plumbers with half the knowledge and skill set of Tom. During my plumbing emergency (washing machine valve burst), Tom called me right back and walked me through how to get the situation under control (which enabled my water to be turned back on:). He didn't even know me yet. He fixed that plumbing problem and since then I have had Tom do many plumbing projects for me like: 1) replace garbage disposal 2) add water pressure valve to home as mine was dangerously high 3) install new faucet 4) change all toilet tank bolts and gaskets 5) replace fill valve/guts for two toilets. It's really hard to find an ethical plumber who takes such pride in his work and makes sure he does right by his clients. Example, I said to Tom recently when he was working in my home that "I will probably need a new hot water heater soon."
