    Ice Cream Flavors

Honestly the best tacos I've ever had. I've been going to Chris' for the last ten years, & originally the name threw me off because I thought it was just an ice cream shop. But an old coworker of mine brought some for lunch, she took me a few weeks later to try them and I've been hooked ever since. I get the steak tacos with cheese between the shells, green sauce and occasionally a side of rice. The owner, his family and whole staff are great people! More than anything I love the consistency of the food. I'd put their steak tacos up against anybody's!!! It can definitely get busy there so consider ordering otp.

I shared review already but couldn't add the pictures ;) I tried beef and chicken sopes. Pretty good, wished for a little more flavor

    Chicken torta, spicy steak plate

Service is fantastic, the establishment is clean and simple, the mexican food felt average. The torta bread was fresh and fluffy but it a pretty thin sandwich - probably the least filled torta I've ever had, but the chicken tasty. Chicken taco was very plain and really needed salsa to carry it. The salsa verde was decent - tangy, fresh and slightly spicy. The steak mexican style was filling and the most flavorful of everything we ate. The rice was the highlight but once a little bit of everything on the plate is put in a corn tortilla, the flavor becomes really muted and again needs salsa to carry it. Really wished the food packed a bit more flavor overall.

I have stopped and gotten ice-cream from this location in the past. The different flavors were delightful. I had read so much about the food so I figured why not try it. Walked in a wondered wow this must be pretty tasty. Almost all the tables were full. Some people eating some waiting for their meals. I proceeded to the register and was greeted by a nice gentleman with a big smile. I told him I heard about the great food and proceeded to place my order which he helped. Before I could finish paying I looked behind me and there was a line of about 6/7 people. All I could think about was this has to be great. My order came out fresh and hot! The tacos were delicious The only thing that I kinda wanted was some extra cheese but they were still great without it (cheese is just my preference) I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items.

I have had heard things. Lots of things. Over and over, the same thing. From several sources: "Best burrito in town" "Best burrito in Indy" "You gotta go to Chris's" "The closes thing to a California burrito" "Yes, the best burrito comes from this ice cream place in Nora" It was time for me to put the rumors to the test. Recently, I had some errands to run in Nora and, wouldn't you know it, it was lunch time! Let's do this! The menu looked simple and delicious. I went completely rogue and went "off menu" because I heard this was the place to have a BRC burrito made famous by El Pollo Loco in Los Angeles, California. Alas, there are no El Pollo Loco's in Indy. But a die-hard BRC burrito fan gave me strict instructions on how to order to get the coveted California staple. (I do want to return to Chris's and give their menu a go! Spoiler alert: the burrito was bangin' so it won't be hard to twist my arm!) Chris's is a cute, unassuming little establishment, but they get it done! The dude behind the counter was kind and more than willing to make my special request. I grabbed a Pineapple Jarritos and sat and waited for the magic to happen. And let me tell you, it is magic. As I sat, I started to wonder about my food. It took a little longer than I expected, but that isn't a bad thing. When you are used to less-than-stellar burritos, yeah, those don't take long to fix. But this burrito was a thing of beauty. Even before the tightly-wrapped tortilla of culinary pleasure was in my hands, I needed to know where it was being created. I could just barely see into the back, and what I saw was nothing short of glorious. Several hispanic women were carefully crafting each and every item that was being ordered. You could tell they took pride in their work, and they were taking great care with every dish they prepared. Finally, the ad hoc BRC burrito was in my hand, wrapped perfectly in aluminum foil to lock in the heat. (Can I just say that wrapping food items with aluminum foil is an art and not a lot of people can do it correctly. They not only wrapped my burrito correctly, but perfectly. It was a thing of mirrored beauty). As I took care to release my Mexican treat from its aluminum bindings, I could tell immediately this burrito was special. Grilled to perfection, with just a bit of color to let me know it was done right. I cut (ok, I literally tore it with my hands! I didn't have a knife, and I couldn't wait any longer! It was my one moment of weakness where I didn't show the utmost respect for this delicacy), so, I tore the burrito in half and ... I got a cheese pull! A freaking cheese pull. I have eaten a lot of Mexican food and lot of burritos in my day. And maybe this sounds stupid, but I don't remember the last time I saw a genuine cheese pull. The seasoned rice was overflowing and this BRC had a great ratio of beans, rice and cheese. I enjoyed each and every bite. The burrito at Chris's was truly a remarkable thing to behold ... just before it disappeared into my watering and wanting mouth! So, in conclusion: the rumors are true. I don't even know if they have eggs on the menu, but you should get your huevos to Chris's soon! (Oh, and they have ice cream, apparently)

I have always heard good things about this place and finally had the chance to stop in a check it out! You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. The menu has some decent options! But I'm a basic b and went for tacos, they were fresh and delicious, and I had that awesome green sauce you see in authentic Mexican joints, so tasty! Check them out if you are in the area!

    Tacos are loaded with meat!
    Katherine A.

Yep, the tacos live up the hype. I have three criteria for a great street taco: flavorful shell that stays together, moist meat filled with flavor and fresh toppings. Amazingly, few places get it right, but Chris' does. I tried a steak, chicken and pork. The tacos are packed with meat. The steak taco was my favorite. The shells are fresh, high quality with the aroma of popcorn. Best shells. I loved the combination cilantro, lettuce and tiny bits of onion topping. The place is not fancy or upscale. There are maybe a dozen tables. The service is super friendly, even when faced with a lunch crowd. And the buzz is out, with a constant line of patrons to order. They also serve other Mexican favorites and ice cream. They do a robust carry out biz. I'll be back.

Very reasonably priced Mexican food in a strip mall. It's counter service but made to order and with some seating available. Reasonably quick service. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but I was very happy with the burrito I ordered

Very famous place that many people have recommended to me. And I had to try it! I didn't go there for ice cream, but their tacos- but then ended up getting both :) This is not a huge place, definitely one of the hidden gems in the area. I ordered tacos with steak and pork. The food only took about 5 minutes. Both were delicious. A lot of flavor in pork. Generous amount of cilantro which I loved. They let me sample two flavors of ice cream and I got cookie dough. Although I got the smallest size they had, it was a lot of ice cream in it. We also got to talk to the Salvadoran owner and he was such a sweet, friendly person. Everyone else working there was very nice. Great experience.

Whenever I have a craving for ice cream, I go to Chris's Ice Cream. They make their ice cream fresh each day, and you can sample any flavor you wish. They have unique and creative flavors each week, and they are all amazing and fantastic. The White Russian ice cream is my personal favorite, along with the rum raisin and the coconut. The staff are wonderful and very friendly, and you will let you try as many samples of ice cream as you wish. They also serve Mexican food here, which is also worth checking out. It has been a while since I have had the Mexican food, but I remember it was impeccable and tasted amazing with a great combination of flavors. The ambiance is nothing special. It is located in a strip mall in a small space, and there is not really any decor on the walls, but they have seating and it is comfortable with a TV so you can watch sports or whatever is on the screen while you eat. This is definitely a hole in the wall treasure in Indy that everyone needs to checkout at some point. It is excellent ice cream and you will become addicted to it. The Mexican food is excellent as well and worth coming here to try out as well. All in all, Chris Ice Cream is a wonderful place and I would come back here day in and day out for ice cream. It is just that good!

Chris' Ice Cream is a staple! Being less than 10 minute away is the most perfect thing! I've always gotten their grilled chicken tacos with their red and green sauce! Very delicious! Their ice cream is soooooo good! Very smooth and the flavors are strong in a good way! My favorite is the Oreo! The service is great! They are all so very kind! The owner always has a smile on his face!

    Campechano taco. Delicious!

I had heard about Chris' Ice Cream for years and never made it in. A few nights ago I was running errands in the area and decided to finally give it a try. Now, let me tell you, I was about to write a review for another restaurant proclaiming their taquitos to be the best I've ever eaten. That is, until I tried that first crispy bite of Chris' taquitos. Those taquitos are hands down the best I have ever had! I love that you can choose chicken or steak. I haven't seen another restaurant offer steak taquitos and they are bomb! I also ordered a campechano taco and it was also delicious. The chorizo was a little crispy, just the way I like it. The gentleman who helped me was very kind and service was fast. I will definitely be back!

Wow. I had never been here before-- had never even heard of this place!-- but my colleagues found it online after searching for highly rated (post-work) Mexican food. Let's just say-- the ratings are right. This place is amazing. It's counter service so super easy to order (and the woman behind the counter was extremely friendly/nice). The chicken enchiladas were SO GOOD. Like, I would come back for tomorrow lunch and dinner and just get that. My colleagues loved their tacos & tortas. The mamey & chocolate ice cream was also great (and extremely inexpensive for the amount you get!). It seems like a place with a lot of return customers (a lot of waves to and from the people behind the counter) which is a huge plus. 10/10 recommend. (Oh, and parking is súper fácil-- super easy).

I like a dim atmosphere, but it was hardly lit enough to read the menu. It was difficult to navigate as it was mostly in Spanish. Extremely limited vegetarian options which I'm not sure I can assume were actually without chicken base in the rice, etc. I didn't even see a vegetable fajita on the menu. My vegetarian burrito sans crema and cheese consisted of little more than rice and a couple small diced pieces of avocado and diced tomato. Iceberg lettuce? I saw corn niblets and a pea fall out. Bland. Hot sauce choices not fantastic. What kind of burrito contains no beans?? Everyone else at my table received flatware. I was given a plastic fork. Once I received an actual fork & knife, they kept tearing the paper underneath my burrito. Strangely served with raw cucumber (ick) & lime wedges on the side. Edible at best. The atmosphere looked interesting upon entry, but it felt grungy, the chairs were heavy. I was seated right next to a brick wall/chimney. Service was sparse. Definite language barrier. The dish my companions received was an array of meat in a molcajete. Mixed feedback on the peppers being ungodly too hot & some of it, especially the sausage, having a good flavor. It was massive & messy. It was interesting initially but definitely didn't look appetizing to me. That came with a bowl of beans in sauce with what we later discovered were Chicharrón on top. It looked like boiled mystery chicken skin. A friend from SoCal I consulted online had no idea what it was from my photo as we tried to discern it & they didn't realize it was even Mexican food from the appearance. It was assumed I was at an Asian joint. We had to ask for drink refills far into our meal. I was given a fresh new cup. The server took another person's cup from the table and refilled it in the back. That was strange and seemed unsanitary. We didn't get everything we asked for. I'd say language was the problem except for the fact the server had understood my requests when "crema" was the only Spanish word I used. Ladies' room had room for one person at a time. The sink was backing up. It felt dingy like the rest of the building. I'm glad they had paper towels and not just a hand blower. I didn't choose the restaurant. It was one of the worst if not THE most horrible Mexican meals & experiences I've had in my life. Hard pass. I'd gladly pay more for better fare elsewhere. I can make far superior at home.

The server was wonderful in explaining their menu and gave multiple recommendations, which I went with all of her great suggestions once I told her what I was craving. My husband didn't enjoy his appetizer, saying it tasted too sweet instead of savory for him, but the server was great at being aware of our plates and took the appetizer off our bill when she noticed he wasn't eating it without us even mentioning it. I got three different tacos, and the only one I didn't enjoy was due to the Mac n cheese that was stuffed in it. It just didn't taste or feel right having a taco with macaroni that was pushed in so densely that it became a sponge. The other two were great! Behind you on the right near the back of the restaurant is a smaller counter with a cash register and a menu booklet that you order from. Once you place your order and pay, you wait and they will bring it out to you. Note that any beverages are sold in bottle form and are self-serve from the cooler next to the order counter. The wait was fairly short considering they prepare the entrees to order. I went with a couple tacos (with the cilantro and white onion) and ordered rice and beans. Apparently the cashier had a little trouble understanding me when I ordered the Asada and Pollo tacos. I was brought out the Asada and Lomo instead. (I was the only customer at the time.) But, instead of sending it back, I like pork loin as well as chicken, so I simply added some green sauce (mild) and a few drops of red (supposed to be hot, but I didn't think it was that hot.) The tacos were excellent. They were served on double layered corn tortillas. I usually prefer flour, but wasn't given an option here. These were the best tasting corn tortilla shells I've had. And the ingredients inside were delicious with the added items being colorfully fresh. The side of beans and rice were forgettable. Not bad, just lacking much texture and flavor. Very bland and not much other than filler when compared to the robust flavor of the tacos. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was pretty clean looking, so given the high quality of flavor, I would recommend stopping by to quench your Mexican food cravings. Review #2698

I have zero complaints after visiting Social Cantina this past Sunday for Mother's Day. I must…read moreadmit that it was not my first choice, but it was a solid one. I knew that I liked the food, and I have previously enjoyed the atmosphere at their Carmel location, so I felt that it was a safe choice. We were a group of 5 and requested booth seating, so we were right behind the host stand. I wasn't thrilled about that, at first, but several larger groups were seated in the same area near the entrance. The booth was spacious and comfortable, and the decor is very bright and vibrant. I ordered the Marg of the Month for May, which was the Bee Sting Margarita. It is made with jalapeno honey and lots of slices of fresh jalapeno. Between those aspects and the bite of the tequila...I quickly understood why it was given that name! If you like a spicy marg, I would definitely suggest! I also ordered the Chips & Salsa Flight for the table. I chose the Roasted Red and Chile de Arbol salsas, along with the guac and queso. I loved all of the dips...except the chile de arbol. It was just spicy...and nothing else. No flavor other than hot. LOL For our entrees, I ordered the Steak Fajitas. I probably could've fed the entire family with the portion that I received. It's Tuesday and I'm still working on it! The steak, peppers and onions were flavorful and tender and it came with all of the pertinent toppings (shredded cheese, lettuce, and pico de gallo). I also requested sour cream on the side. It was served with a side of beans and rice as well. My cousin ordered the Chicken Tinga Enchiladas and quipped that she would've liked "more tinga on her chicken". She didn't eat it all or take the leftovers home, so I'm not sure that I'd suggest that dish. One of my daughters ordered the Shrimp & Street Corn tacos without the corn, so they looked a little plain, but she liked them. She wasn't a fan of the $5.50 per taco price tag. My aunt ordered the Matador bowl and our server, Hailey, stated that it was her favorite. I had also been eyeing that on the menu. She enjoyed it and had plenty to take home with her as well. My other daughter ordered the Quesabirria tacos and supremely enjoyed her meal as well. The hosts and our server provided excellent service, and we had a really good time.

The bartender was my server she was sweet, attentive, and helpful. I'd return for something a bit different. Cute ambiance plenty of space for everyone Smaller menu but does the job.
