I stopped back by La Catrina Mexican Tacos for a quick lunch and immediately noticed they've made some legit upgrades. I came here not long after they first opened, and while the food was always strong, they were still finding their rhythm. This time? The drink setup is dialed in, there's music playing (which helps the vibe a lot), and the seating feels way more intentional. But here's the real test for me...the place was hopping at lunch...with Mexicans! Let's be honest...a soul food spot without Black folks in it? Suspicious. An Indian restaurant without Indian families? Immediate side eye. I want the cultural co-sign...the People's Champ. And this place has it. I went with the al pastor quesadilla, and since I dined in, I added the house-made chips and salsa. Those chips are a step up--slightly thicker, perfectly fried, and super crisp without being overdone. You can tell they're fresh. Now the al pastor... I've tried it all over the city, and it usually misses one way or the other; either lacking flavor with a few random pineapple chunks, or way too greasy. They nailed it here. Great flavor, juicy without being heavy, and just the right balance of sweetness from the pineapple. It's the kind of bite that immediately transported me to the little corner taqueria in Rosarito, Mexico when I had the best Al pastor tacos in my life! we stopped in a whim around lunch time and we're so glad that we did! what drew me in was their vegetarian options which sounded great. everyone was very welcoming and attentive throughout our dining experience. we were checked on multiple times and even given suggestions on how to eat the cebollitas toreads that we ordered (with salt & lime - and it was delicious). i ordered the 3 vegetarian tacos which are made to order so it took awhile but was so worth it! they were filled with a soy protein (wonderful texture) and cilantro, tomatoes, & onions. it was sooooo good - well seasoned and fresh! some of the best tacos i've ever had. my boyfriend orders the steak tacos (la catrina) which came with cilantro & onions. he thought they were fantastic and also some of the best tacos. he enjoyed the side of rice that he ordered, too. they were served with a side of radishes, limes, and a variety of salsas. my favorite was the green salsa! overall, it was a tasty, filling meal at a great price point. the service was friendly and the environment was very clean and cozy. we will definitely be back! i recommend it to all especially because it's a great option for vegans and vegetarians, too. i love an inclusive menu! read more

I wanted to give this restaurant a five star review but the chips were so plain, I was very surprised, I think they need salt and they would've been perfect. I placed a carry out order and arrived early before my food was done, however, after I got the food and went to the car, I wanted to try a chip and they were cold and flavorless. Maybe that's the reason chips are free with orders (?) However, the tacos were delicious and the waitress who greeted me was very nice and communicative as I waited. I like this place. I think it's a hidden gem on fall Creek that more people need to patronize. The only thing that I don't care for is that they pass through the credit card charge or debit card charge onto you then ask for a tip. I still go ahead and tip, even though I'm being charged for the credit transaction because it is a small business and I like to support small businesses. I love their taco Supremes, the chorizo, steak and pork. Service is always been good for me and the workers always check to make sure everything is OK. read more

My husband and I were craving authentic Mexican food and were in the area and stumbled upon this place. It was delicious! We decided on tortas and I'm so glad we did. The portions were huge and the torta bread was perfect. If you know about tortas- you know the goodness of it is very dependent on the bread the waitress was kind and explained every question we had on the menu as well as explaining the different types of salsas that they make. We stumbled upon this little gem about 1.5 months ago and we are now on our 3rd visit. The food is unparalleled in this area and the owner is a sweetheart. If you dine in, you get one complimentary basket of chips and salsa. The chips are freshly made and not typical; takes a moment to get used to them but they quickly become addictive. The salsa is sooo good! The tacos and quesabirria are so delicious, I haven't strayed from my original order although there are several other things on the menu I can't wait to try. The dining room is not usually hopping, but stay long enough and you will see several people come in for carry out. Our new favorite for authentic Mexican fare! read more

Small family ran place. Authentic tacos like you'd get in Mexico. Very friendly service. Good food. I had 3 tacos (lomo, pastor, and carnitas) with a side of Chiles torreados (sauteed jalapenos). The salsas they bring out with the tacos are made in house, fresh and very nice. I asked if they had any salsa del diablo and they brought some that definitely had the heat. I'll be back. Did carry out, so cannot comment on the ambiance, but the food was very tasty. Why I've never seen a steak and shrimp taco before is beyond me. It's delicious. Although the food was very good, the menu and pricing was intentionally confusing. I was charged $13.99 for 6 small taquitos. I thought it was $5.99 according to the menu. It was extra for chips and salsa. A burrito was $12.99. All sides were considered extra. There was a 4% service charge for paying with a card. Our meal was close to $50 for 2 of us . When I called to question the charges I want offered any compensation . I will not be eating there again! read more

Spent 48 dollars on dinner for one man. The burrito which is 13 dollars is about 1/3 the size of a qdoba burrito. Your results may vary. But even with recent inflation, in my opinion this place is way too expensive. Normally I am full with 1 qdoba burrito for 11 dollars. The fact I had to spend 48 dollars to get as full here says a lot. I recommend they lower the prices or increase quantity. read more

I came here with my parents on a Saturday evening. Not busy at all, booths were comfy and clean. Waitstaff is so nice and checked on us often. I ordered a Birria Burrito and it was phenomenal, super fresh ingredients. My mother ordered steak nachos and enjoyed them, dad got three tacos, all different meats and said they were to die for.
