This being the closest restaurant to the Railway trail, with decent reviews and casual dress code, decided to ome in just at sunset on a Saturday for dinner. Cheerfully greeted by a nice person who was thrilled someone was trying her restaurant for the first time. Seemed it would be a pleasure! Banter! Joy! The location is adorable - an historic inn with lovely interior stone walls a nice bar, a dining room hung with farm implements and your usual skinny staircase and sunny porch. Absolutely thrilled by the continental and sometimes quirky selections (sweet and sour schnitzel? Why not!) Ordered quickly, letting the waitress know of time constraints. Half an hour later she brought the salad course. An hour after that, the manager or maître d' -- she never said but she did clearly have some authority and was the boss of the waitress--stopped by to inform the table that the delay was potato pancakes. The chef had apparently felt compelled to make a whole new batch of potato pancakes from scratch. And therefore it was our fault the food was taking so long. This would make sense if the table next to us wasn't also waiting twenty minutes for buffalo wings. And if our waters had been refilled. And if there were apologies rather than resigned excuses. The explanation landed like a desperate attempt at humor as the Titanic made a turn directly for the iceberg. No offer of even a comped cup of coffee, not a glass of wine, or even a sincere wish that things would go faster. We could do nothing but feel sorry for her and her staff in this wonderful little local inn and wonder who the monster was who is running the kitchen -- my beef stroganoff was terrific but the plate that made us late held a couple of small sausages, a large scoop of red cabbage and three jam-lid sized mashed potato fritters which could just as easily have been replaced by literally any starch... it was ninety minutes start to finish in this bizarre mystery of a restaurant. Was the chef on strike? Having a bad day? His front of house worked so very hard to cover for him. I have only sadness for this glorious little place - my favorite kind, locally owned, delicious dishes, deep pours. But I will only go back when I don't have a long drive ahead of me -- or perhaps for a laugh with people from the City who don't know how to slow down. read more

There are so many well-known NYC spots that scream Instagram. But sometimes, depending where you're at, it's about having good food and drinks too and not even about looking for those Instagram staples anymore. Here at Reservoir Inn in West Hurley, NY- just a few minutes away from Woodstock, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time with the stone walls, rural location feel, displayed antique farming tools and a serious, cozy cabin feel where you can almost unwind. All it's missing is a fireplace with a roaring fire to add a warm glow during dinner. Hubs went by the not-so-rave reviews- plus, it's close to home. What adds an odd charm, is right when you're finished with dinner and head to your car, the sky is pitch dark- especially now since it's getting darker earlier with nothing to your left or right. And the only sounds you'll hear are the hoot of an owl and the gentle swish of leaves. The best spot in the house is the buzzing dining room. But while the dining room may appear large- there are no tables in the middle space. At least 6-7(?) tables line the walls and the covered patio has another few tables- so a reservation is a must. From seafood to poultry to bratwurst to pasta to falafel, etc, Reservoir's international menu is a very nice one. As we were told by locals, Reservoir Inn has changed hands with a new chef who's bringing his culinary school background and upped the entire game here. Conversation was super friendly from our bartender Karen and our server. Hubs went for the prime rib- but asked for an unusual request: for it to be charred. Kudos to the chef who still kept the meat to medium and added that char request. My teriyaki shrimp and udon was beyond plentiful. The shrimp were juicy- but the teriyaki made the udon a bit salty. Obviously the regulars seem to be coming back from what we noticed. Every detail of Reservoir adds a mood of simplicity combined with the unexpected and comfort. read more

Came here for my mother in laws birthday dinner celebration, made reservations and was seated when we arrived and left two hours after. When the server came to our table to greet us he did mentioned that it was his first day as a server so somethings went unnoticed such as straws for our drinks and drink refills. We had to ask for those things.. We placed drink orders which took a while to received even though the place was not super busy. Maybe like 5 other tables and ours. The food took forever but the appetizers and the rest of the party's meals were good. When it came to my order which was a medium rare NY strip it was over cooked. When I mentioned it to the server he said he will mention it to the "manager/cook/owner" from my understanding, when he came back he said that the "manager/cook/owner" will not comp my meal and that it was their last NY strip. Horrendous way of handling that situation coming from this establishment, I was surprised and disappointed that they did not even offered a different meal being that I didn't even had my own to begin with. When we were offered desert we did not even bothered, their loss. Will not be coming back and will not ever recommend this place. read more

Writing the review after several visits- all excellent. We've tried a variety of dishes (Sweet and sour schnitzel, cordon bleu schnitzel and...can't remember the others). This chef knows how to cook! His sauces are great! Service is relaxed and with a large group it was a tad slower than that...so just slow down and enjoy your conversation. Atmosphere is nice with bluestone walls and old tools hanging. We thought the prices were excellent and the included salad was nice quality. Go- you won't be sorry! read more

Rustic, very cozy atmosphere. We love sitting on the enclosed porch. Very eclectic decor! Highly recommend a reservation, they will squeeze you in, but you may have a delay in getting served. The current owner is making a valiant effort to make the business a total succes after opening right before COVID. The one part that needs no improvement is the food. This is the finest dining experience in the mid Hudson valley. Each time we have been there the food has been delicious. Fine food served hot as it should be or chilled well when it should be. No lukewarm warm entrees when you still have half a plate to go. Make an effort to get there for your next night out. The ambience is relaxing. And for dessert: a marvelous chocolate dish called Chocolate Pot Du Creme that just melted in your mouth. Menu is wide ranging from the half duck in cherry sauce which two of us had to a number of other tantalizing entrees including the Steak Au Poivre which I will try next time we visit. We ordered pasta-the pasta is mediocre, the sauce is jarred, the chicken looked like it had been sitting in the walk-in for two days (or longer.) 3. They over charged us-it was supposed to be around $35. My bill, including tip, came to $63. 4. The server was nice and friendly. We should have left when I saw the empty parking lot. The Schnitzel was authentic German, the falafel were perfectly cooked with no residual oil or grease, and the shrimp piccata juicy and light. Had dinner there last week. Used to be a hopping place with excellent food and service. Disappointed. While prime rib was good it was way over priced at $39. Had to ask for bread, butter. Salt pepper. No choice in potato or vegetables. Sparse patrons. Will not be likely to go back any time soon. Our salads co sister of like 5 Romain lettuce leaves with one thin slice of cucumber and one small cherry tomato cut in half. Felt like going home and bringing them some more tomatoes! No cheese. All of us enjoyed our entrees, wife had the eggplant parm, was two thick slices cooked to perfection, I had the chicken Marsala over spaghetti, you are offered multiple choices of pasta/starch. Our friends had chicken Alfredo over linguini and chicken piccata, they liked it. Service was good and not to intrusive, alcoholic drinks where as expected. They charged us $2 for 2 tablespoons of grated cheese for pasta and $5 for an extra bread basket which was a six inch small baguette. A mediocre meal with a waitress who couldn't be bothered... you ruined it for $7. This place used to be a go-to on a Friday night and it was very empty with no one at the bar at 7pm. We had to ask multiple times to get our drinks refilled and our check taken care of. Tim is a natural in the kitchen- his meatloaf is just so good and the tortellini specials will satisfy any craving for a belly warming, soul soothing pasta dinner. Karen is a fantastic bartender/manager who instantly feels like a friend. We go for the food and stay for the care that they both bring to each and every night in this down to earth, feel like a local place. One of the best meals we've had in a long time. Everything we ordered was superb. Like most restaurants these days, they definitely need more help. So we got our meal to go. Went out for dinner here last night, it was the first time in a long time, likely pre-pandemic. Avoid at all costs. First, the bartender made a 7&7 with ginger ale. Seriously? Then, the fish cakes appetizer arrived and they were so hard you could have played hockey with them. I invited the waitress over to show my playing drums on them with my fork and knife. Then the sliced steak with garlic sauce arrived. This was a fairly expensive dish, but the steak was of poor quality and tough as nails. Bottom line? Food not too bad but the service is terrible. We waited for an hour and a half for the salads to arrive and then waited for another half an hour before the main meal arrived. There was no sign of the waitress during our two hour wait and she was unapologetic when we pointed out our two hour wait. We even had to go get our own water after asking the waitress and having no success for half an hour. Finally when the meal did arrive, there was a hair on the plate! We ate at the Reservoir Inn for the first time on August 14th, 2016 which was my wife's and my 45th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed all the food and found the prices reasonable. So, why not 5 stars? We thought the waitress was uninterested and somewhat hostile. We initially opted to be seated in the enclosed patio but being right under the AC unit it chilled my wife. We asked to be reseated in the main dining room. The request was granted but it seemed like the waitress was hostile in some way to that. Our water glasses were never refilled, when we finished our bread we were never asked if we wanted more. When I finished my drink I was never asked if I wanted another. In a competitive market this can sway our decision whether to return. read more

Very nice ambiance -cozy, down to earth, family friendly. I went here with my father, husband and daughter, so we were ranging in ages from 7-70 - and everyone was happy. There was a wide array of options on the menu. I had the Penne Shmatta, which was light, flavorful, and delicious. My husband had chicken piccata, he said he could have done with less oil in the dish, but he is very health conscious, and that was his only complaint. My father had the Reservoir Jambalaya- "flavorful and generous with the portion sizes" he says. The service was notably friendly and attentive. We're happy to find this little gem of a restaurant. I believed they used dehydrated apples which were not hydrated. Probably the worst bread pudding I have ever had. My companion had the pork cheeks over noodles and that was pretty good. For above and beyond the call of duty, I am giving the Reservoir Inn five stars. This has been a local favorite for a long time, with the quality sadly interrupted by a brief change of ownership a few years ago. But Tony & Monique are back and they did us a real solid. My mother passed away and due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, the church was not available to hold the post-service lunch reception that we had wanted. But even though the Reservoir Inn is usually closed on Mondays, Tony and his team stepped up and gave us a warm and comfortable place with good food and attentive service. Guests of all ages felt comfortable and relaxed in an environment that allowed us to remember our Mom with joy. And they even allowed us to bring in some cookies from our Mom's favorite bakery to supplement the excellent carrot cake that the restaurant provided. Our friends reported that the chicken parmesan and the sausage and peppers were real standouts. Thank you Tony, Monique, Tim and Jill. You are all a blessing in a difficult time. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I've spent a lot of time in the past staying with friends in the Hudson Valley and the Reservoir Inn was always our favorite place to eat. The atmosphere is just great here. A beautiful area and a beautiful restaurant. The food and service here are amazing. Every menu item I have tried has been perfect. My favorite being the seafood pasta. They also have a cozy bar area that is great for relaxing and having some drinks. One of my friends worked here a number of years ago and said the owners are two of the nicest people you will ever come across. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners a few times and agree. Reservoir Inn is back in the hands of its long-time owner and the service and quality are back up to old standards -- excellent. The food is enjoyable, but far from outstanding. It is very standard, good American restaurant food. The place does have a reputation for being one of the _cleanest_ restaurants in that area. The owner (whose name I'm forgetting) is fantastically friendly and helpful. He alone is reason to go to Reservoir. He came back to run the place after the former chef who took over ran it into the ground in a matter of months. The staff is also outstanding. The drawback: Crowds are back up again, so you have go early or late to be sure of a table. read more
