There are so many well-known NYC spots that scream Instagram. But sometimes, depending where you're at, it's about having good food and drinks too and not even about looking for those Instagram staples anymore. Here at Reservoir Inn in West Hurley, NY- just a few minutes away from Woodstock, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time with the stone walls, rural location feel, displayed antique farming tools and a serious, cozy cabin feel where you can almost unwind. All it's missing is a fireplace with a roaring fire to add a warm glow during dinner. Hubs went by the not-so-rave reviews- plus, it's close to home. What adds an odd charm, is right when you're finished with dinner and head to your car, the sky is pitch dark- especially now since it's getting darker earlier with nothing to your left or right. And the only sounds you'll hear are the hoot of an owl and the gentle swish of leaves. The best spot in the house is the buzzing dining room. But while the dining room may appear large- there are no tables in the middle space. At least 6-7(?) tables line the walls and the covered patio has another few tables- so a reservation is a must. From seafood to poultry to bratwurst to pasta to falafel, etc, Reservoir's international menu is a very nice one. As we were told by locals, Reservoir Inn has changed hands with a new chef who's bringing his culinary school background and upped the entire game here. Conversation was super friendly from our bartender Karen and our server. Hubs went for the prime rib- but asked for an unusual request: for it to be charred. Kudos to the chef who still kept the meat to medium and added that char request. My teriyaki shrimp and udon was beyond plentiful. The shrimp were juicy- but the teriyaki made the udon a bit salty. Obviously the regulars seem to be coming back from what we noticed. Every detail of Reservoir adds a mood of simplicity combined with the unexpected and comfort.

Great food. Best chicken piccata I ever ate. We also loved the French onion soup. My wife and I agreed it was the best. She raved about the Schnitzel Cordon Bleu. And for dessert: a marvelous chocolate dish called Chocolate Pot Du Creme that just melted in your mouth. The decor reminded me of a hunting lodge with stone walls and a variety of regional implements adorning the ceiling beams. Tim - the owner and chef - and Karen - hostess and server - were fantastic and very friendly. Going to be going there a lot!

I can't say enough about this restaurant. We started going in 2014 and have been going ever since. We even had our wedding luncheon there. Tim is an amazing chef. I love his duck. I really have not found anyone else who makes it as good as Tim. My husband loves the beef stroganoff. Please do yourself a favor. Call and have Karen book you a table. Get the duck! Tell them Melanie sent you.

Im here to say that if you're running a quick search before considering a reservation, read this review and not the salty vegetarian's somewhere below. We started off with beef carpaccio and brown butter sage gnocchi - both were so delicious; the salad with peppercorn and citrus that was paired with the beef carpaccio was so refreshing that I could have ate it all separately and left satisfied. For dinner I had the trout with butternut squash farro and asparagus. Crispy skin, creamy farro, filling while still leaving room for dessert. My boyfriend had the parpadelle with pancetta and asparagus in a Dijon cream sauce. I stuck my fork on his plate more than I'm willing to admit. We shared a hazelnut mocha pudding with cookie crumbles for dessert. Heaven. We are so happy we took a chance on The Bear and while I hope the word gets out there, I hope not too much that we won't be able to make it back our next trip to Woodstock. The dirty martini could have been dirtier. But that's a matter of personal preference. The espresso martini was delicious. The wait staff was great, the atmosphere was great. If this review is too long, I'll post photos for the people who don't feel like reading.

The tables have tops that have obviously been replaced at some point, as they aren't the expected laminate, but otherwise it's like going back in time. We were looking for a traditional breakfast place open on a weekday (rather than a bagel shop or a place that only sells breakfast sandwiches), and this fit the bill. Service was efficient and attentive. They have a large array of menu items, but we both chose to get the breakfast burrito, without the meat. There was a bit too much potato inside for our taste, but others may prefer it that way. The side of salsa that came with it was delicious and made up for any lack of seasoning when we removed the salty meat. We would return when looking for a traditional diner with a large variety of choices.

This whole time, I really thought this place was inside a cozy hotel about 2 blocks over. Guess you learn something new every day. We pulled up on a Thurs. around 4 with no res. and got seated real quick. Restaurant K. is airy, chic and gives a relaxed vibe. The menu is on the smaller side, but honestly, there's something for every eating style. We kept things light instead of diving into something heavy. Our spring greens salad was really good: hefty mound of mixed greens, lima beans, string beans and a hint of dill to make everything pop. Hubs had the double-stacked burger with white cheddar on a potato bun and loved it. I had high hopes for the hush puppies because they sounded amazing on paper- but they were doughy than corny and threw me off. Then came dessert. Again- sounded great on paper. It kinda feels like desserts get a "reinvented" treatment here(?). For instance, the strawberry shortcake was deconstructed: a few chunks of white cake, some diced strawberries and whipped cream. Totally unexpected. I ordered the 'Fun-Fetti Dunkaroos' with madeleines because they caught my eye, but they're smaller than standard. The food isn't bad at all. We were just caught off guard by how some of our selections were prepped. What really saved the evening were the cocktails. They were beautifully made and had a lot of strength. No watered-down nonsense here! Plus, our server Karina(?) was super sweet. I asked if I could try the passion fruit purée to see if it was the real deal for one of the cocktails I ordered and she brought me a little sample. Passed the test!

I chose to kick up my taste experience using the generous condiments on the table, combining the sweet BBQ sauce with hot mustard. Perfecto! Opted for house made slaw and baked beans as my sides, they were so flavorful. I loved that the slaw wasn't drowning in mayo, just enough to make it moist. We chose SILVIA because the menu is vegetable forward and as a vegetarian there were several dishes I had to try. Both my omni partner and I loved the mushroom lentil pâté, stuffed artichokes, and smoked beets we had for appetizers. The pâté is rich and flavorful and the pickled veggies it's served with are so good we only wished the dish came with more of them. The artichokes were perfectly tender and are stuffed with raclette and ramp (YUM), and the lemon breadcrumbs they're topped with pair so well with the cheese, and add a lovely brightness and zing. The smoked beets were also perfectly tender with a deep rich smokey flavor, and the chimichurri they come with does a nice job to add brightness (There's a theme here of rich flavors paired with brightness to make your palette pop). For an entrée we opted to share the local mushroom & pasta rags dish. the pasta rags were cooked nicely, soft but still toothy, and the mushrooms, black garlic butter, and thyme added a rich deep flavor. I was obsessed with the amount of parmigiano reggiano the pasta was topped with -- I could've eaten plate after plate of this dish. Their cocktail menu seems to be just as well thought out as their food with some unique offerings. I tried and enjoyed both Mezcal options. Service was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive. The outdoor patio was gorgeous with hanging string lights and it was nice to sit out on a warm summer night. However, the indoor also had an amazing vibe with an open kitchen concept and a swanky bar. On a Friday night both areas were packed, so I'd say a reservation here is a must. I made mine well in advance. We started off with a few small plates and all were delish. I heard good things about the fresh hot pita bread with whipped butter and was not let down. We also had fresh heirloom tomatoes with a whipped feta, and prosciutto and endive. For my main I went with scallops. While these were absolutely incredible I do have to mention that the price was very high for what was received. Four small scallops for $40... and mostly just a huge bed of corn and peas. Delicious, but way way steep when considering what was given. I also had some of my husband's steak which was perfectly cooked and salted and came with the most delicious oyster mushrooms. This is definitely a spendy dinner (especially with a few cocktails in the mix), BUT... it's classy and food and drinks are top tier. So for a special night out this is absolutely worth a visit.
