We stopped by here on our way from the airport to our hotel and everyone was very accommodating to us and our pup! The homie vibe was much appreciated after traveling all day. The omelette was made with fresh veggies and I added bacon that was cooked perfectly! The chocolate chip pancake was warm, fluffy, and huge! There are a ton of chocolate chips inside! Morning was filled with plaster and dust so unlike any other day, I decided to venture out for breakfast as my in laws house is under heavy reno. As always, when looking for food, l ventured to reviews of restaurants for breakfast nearby. I didnt want a big breakfast but a small, delicious, locally owned joint and I stumbled upon Christine's Cafe. The restaurant is located about 5 minutes from where I was staying and pictures looked like it would be just want I was looking for. Driving in, I immediately saw the parking sign in the back and walked into a small building with lots of windows. I was greeted by a pleasant lady and when I asked if I could see a breakfast menu being my first time, she immediately gave me a menu and told me that for first timers a complimentary scone will be given. I ended up ordering a ham and cheese croissant with a cup of coffee and soon after, she offered a scone. Sitting in the window reminded me of being in a cafe in Paris with my croissant. So when your pregnant wife asks you to bring home some sweets and you are looking to impress, you need to come to Christine's. That was me this morning, pregnant and craving something for my sweet tooth and was expecting a mediocre donut from Dunks. Instead, my dear husband not only delivered some of the most delicious scones I have ever tasted, but the energy bar was also a nice surprise! You will go home a winner guys! Scones: 5/5 Just sensational! Buttery soft and oh so crumbly! It just melted in my mouth. Blueberry scone with light glaze was divine but my fave was the raspberry lemon scone with sugary crystals on top. Warm, fresh and so good! Energy bar: 5/5 Wow! What a nice surprise! It's like rice krispies with peanuts, sunflower seeds, raisins and creamy peanut butter! I ate this entire bar and it wasn't too sweet or too much. Very delightful and peanut buttery! Turnovers: 3/5 He got the apple and lemon turnovers and yes they are good. I felt like the crust was missing something for me. It was flaky and the filling did not seem to have real fruit, more like the filling thats smooth and sweet you find in a donut. It all depends how you like your turnovers and I just personally prefer real chunks of fruit. But still, we ate them right up! All in all Christine's is baking some delicious goodies. Wow, that pretty much sums up my visit, lol. I visited Christine's Café on the way to work, and I'm so glad I did because it was delicious. I ordered the Bacon Scone Sandwich that came with two eggs, bacon, and cheddar, inside a bacon cheddar scone! When I first walked in I was greeted immediately by a lady with Burnette hair, she was extremely nice and welcoming. Since I was in a little of a rush we engaged in some minor small talk, and I mentioned to her that it was my first time visiting the Café. Once I said that, her eyes lit up and she insisted that I try the blueberry scone, which I did, and that scone deserves and entire review alone, lol. All in all, I am definitely going to visit again because the scones are phenomenal, and I also want to try some of their other selections that they have. Stopped here for breakfast on or way from Boston to Acadia. Just a short drive off the main route. Small but obviously popular with the locals and very accommodating of our group. All the food was delicious but the scones were excellent (it's obvious why they are award winning)! Also grabbed a homemade energy bar to snack on as we continued the journey and it was tasty. Let me start by saying that Christine seems like a very nice lady. I really wanted to like this place...I really, really did. I am reviewing my breakfast experience, not the "bakery" part of the cafe. When I walked in I noticed how crammed the dining room felt...the tables were right on top of each other. It was so close that if anyone got up from their table it was nearly impossible for them to avoid banging into your table and spilling your beverage. If you were able to avoid this, then you may still end up wearing coffee due to the uneven floor/tables. A major negative for me was the table setting. There were no napkins, sugar packets, creamers or jelly on the table. I think these should be staples of every breakfast table. If you wanted any of these things, you had to find the waitress to request them. The only other option was to navigate the crowded dining room to the self serve station, without knocking over someone's drink (see previous paragraph). I could almost overlook these things if the food was incredible. Unfortunately, our eggs and pancakes were on the bland side. The coffee was pretty good...too bad no one ever offered to "freshen it up" for me though. Food was on paper plates and coffee in styrofoam cups..not a big deal but thought it was worth mentioning. On a side note, they close at 1pm on Saturdays and are not open on Sundays...but are open until 2pm every other day of the week. I, along with many other people, only have the luxury of going out for breakfast on weekends. Why close early on Saturdays? And what breakfast place is closed on Sundays? I had high hopes for this one...it is a great location and has great yelp reviews. Wish it had worked out. 2 stars. read more

FIrst the good; The people are very nice! The place is clean, quaint and in a great location. The cookies, cream puffs and mini eclairs were great! The scones and muffins were good too. Not a bad place to pick them up on the way home. So-So: The food. Had the special "California wrap" and a grilled chicken wrap that was very average. Not really bad just not memorable. The yellow iceberg lettuce probably shouldn't be in any food these days. Not a whole lot of options in regards to small dishes or sandwiches. Almost as if you look at it and say, I think I have all of this at home maybe I should just go there. The coffee was very average and once again, not memorable. The bad: Very crowded area not really efficient with the space, even though small. Maybe getting rid of the gigantor beverage fridge and hutch in the seating area? Some of the food. As I mentioned above, the wrap was just plain umm...ugh plain. Breakfast in the past was also nothing of note. Just basic stuff. Also, the hours of operation are a little weird too. I always feel bad for writing these types of reviews but feel its necessary. The place could be so much more! The location has about a million cars driving by it every day! If only it was like a place where food creativity is the main attraction. Yes, its ok to be a nice little cafe with fairly good food and nice people. Unfortunately, these types of places are fading out. The city is saturated with great restaurants and cafes, so next is the burbs... or so Im told but a couple chefs in town. We had a very unpleasant experience here. The cafe is poorly run by a couple of amateurs who have no concept of how to treat customers or operate an establishment like this. They were out of morning pastries by 9:00 AM like another yelper mentioned. We sat down for breakfast and they told us they were out of home fries, REALLY at 9:00 ? They have waitress service but you have to fetch your own coffee which is silly; NO REFILLS on coffee btw! they count how many times you get up which is PATHETIC! The Omelettes are flat, with little filling and not fluffy like you might expect, ours was served cold and took FOREVER to arrive (and it wasn't that busy) and it comes with NOTHING! everything is a la cart and served on paper plates with plastic utensils. And they only take cash... Our waitress got nasty and defensive when we questioned her about all the unexplained charges on the check. When we expressed our displeasure about the obscure check she said "WELL IF YOU DON"T LIKE IT DON'T COME BACK"! I can assure you and them that we won't be back, and I doubt they will be in business for long if they continue to operate their business this way and treat people with such disrespect, very SAD... AL who left the review after/below mine is one of the owners herself trying to discredit me. Wonderful place for two reasons: 1. Service - I once got there and the coffee wasn't ready. While I waited, they warmed up and buttered the blueberry muffin I ordered w/o me asking. Perfect. 2. I didn't know what to order for a quick bite to go, and they suggested a bacon cheddar scone that had just come out of the oven. I love this place! This was the first place where I got a fruit cup that had watermelon as a base (instead of honeydew/cantaloupe), and had strawberries and blueberries...Yum! When my parents moved to the area a few months ago we started a weekly meet up at Christine's with my 2 year old daughter. This place is everything you want in a small local bakery. The food is out of this world and everyone from the owner to the waitresses are as kind and humble as can be. The baked goods are sinfully good, the breakfast is wonderful and fresh and the butternut squash soup was the best I have ever had. went to salem for the weekend for a quick trip - one of our friends had suggested stopping at christine's cafe for one of their lemon blueberry scones in particular and their great food in general. we got there just as they were closing for the day, saturday. i told the folks there (they had just finished their breakfasts) that i had come all the way from brooklyn to try their scones and breakfast : ) the lady behind the counter said she'd run out of them, but that she'd check in the back for me. she didn't have any blueberry lemon left, but found some orange cranberry scones which she put into a bag along with some cinnamon ones. she asked me if i'd like some coffee to go, and got it for me. we chatted with the dining room folks while they were getting their things and getting ready to leave. the lady came back and handed me the bag and the coffee. i started going toward the register to pay, but she waved me away saying she was sorry she was closed and out of the lemon blueberry scones, and that she was giving me these on the house. i tried to pay just for the coffee but she wouldn't have it. i thanked her for everything, it was so sweet and she really didn't have to do that! i wished we would've gotten up earlier because i would've loved to sit in the cafe and talk with all of them while we ate - they were so sweet, just like their scones : ) thank you christine! i'll be sending folks your way, and i'll come back (and get up earlier next time!) for breakfast or lunch someday : ) read more
