From the very first tasting to the last bite on our wedding night, our experience with Christopher Michael catering was extraordinary. We wanted our dinner to feel like a Michelin-star-rated experience, and they delivered that and more. Our guest are still talking about the hors d'oeuvres passed around during cocktail hour. As the bride, I unfortunately did not get to enjoy that hour between pictures and getting ready for our entrance into the reception, but Matt thinks of all that, and every time I turned around there was a plate for my husband, wedding party and I waiting. The lobster rolls were my favorite. They were very popular amongst our guest as well. The French-style service was flawless. The food came out piping hot and our guest really enjoyed being able to eat a little of each meat brought out. They didn't have to pick an entree; they were served everything! They were able to eat the chicken, tuna, AND steak if they wanted! The dishes were bursting with flavor. One thing that truly sets them apart is their gift for hospitality. Each server and bartender treated our guests with warmth and professionalism. I had a cocktail on my table every time I turned around with fresh ice. Although, I didn't get to drink much lol. I would love to comment on my communication with them; however, I eventually hired wedding planners to take care of that on my behalf. They did mention that Christine is very professional and easy to communicate with. Before I brought them on though, Matt was very quick to return any calls and even did a house visit during one of my pre-wedding panic attacks to assure me that he had it! Pay for one thing. Day of get a cheaper substitution without being told. Cheaper for them. Not you. Dessert gets put on a table in back of room and not even announced when was supposed to be served to guests. Food was ok at best. 2 star for friendliness of servers but everything else just regrets. This is a long review, but if you're considering hiring Christopher Michael Catering for your event, or even eating at the Dimon Estate, I recommend you read the whole thing. The short version is that we booked them for our wedding in 2022, but they were disorganized, then incredibly rude and greedy, and ultimately cancelled everything on us a few months before our wedding date, with no reasonable explanation, apology, or compensation. We booked Jamesport Manor/Dimon Estate in June 2021 and were so excited to get married there. Fast forward to May 2022 and a sound ordinance was passed in the town of Riverhead that made it very difficult for them to host events. This led them to cancel the venue for all couples in summer 2022- but they promised to still cater at a discounted rate and provide rentals, as well as help everyone find new venues. We rebooked a new venue that they suggested and proceeded as planned. Then, they canceled everything else (catering, rentals, bathrooms, etc) on us a few weeks later. The excuse was that a chef quit, so they did not have enough staff. But catering and rentals were not cancelled for any other couples (I know because I joined a FB group with many of the other affected brides), and when we called to talk to Matt Kar, he basically told us that we had no right to ask any questions and that we shouldn't be upset-- because while we were losing a wedding, he was losing his business. Our wedding planner and new venue also asked questions, but Matt evaded them as well. We tried to ask for just the rentals (sans catering) since the chef was the issue, but Matt refused. Well, a little bit of internet sleuthing, and I found social media posts by another couple and their photographer from September 2021, indicating that they were looking forward to their wedding day next year, at Jamesport Manor, on our exact same wedding date. I also found posts from their wedding (on our same date), at a new venue from the list Matt provided, that tagged Christopher Michael Catering as their caterer (and rentals provider based on the photos). In other words, it's very clear that they were double booked on our date for at least one year prior, and that Christopher Michael catered the other wedding at a new venue. We have not been given any reasonable explanation from Matt Kar, but I can only assume that they made a mistake and then chose the more lucrative wedding to cater, then tried to cover it up by making up an excuse about their chef quitting. We were first ignored, then berated and yelled at by Matt Kar for asking very reasonable questions over the phone. We received no compensation and almost had to cancel our wedding-- but thanks to incredible kindness of some new vendors, we pulled off a wonderful (albeit significantly more expensive) wedding! Matt Kar, while admittedly a good chef, is a disorganized mess with poor communication skills, who will not make an effort to help you or be reasonable if it's not beneficial to him. All it would have taken for us to let it go was a sincere apology and admission of their mistake, but we never received that from anyone. I hold the entire family/business responsible and recommend you do not trust them or give them your money. read more

Ordered from the food truck yesterday while at jamesport farm brewery. Ordered a hot pretzel that came with smoked gouda cheese dip. The pretzel was cold and stale and the cheese sauce was served luke warm. Absolutely disgusting. One bite and in the garbage it went. I should have bought it to their attention but didn't bother. Also the bun that the pulled pork was served on was stale and hardly any pulled pork. First time I've had an issue with this food truck. Will not buy from them anymore after yesterday's experience at JFB. It's unfortunate you can't bring your own food and have to settle for cold stale crap. $15 in the garbage. read more

Our wedding would not have been as big of a hit as it was without all of the hard work and delicious food from Matt and the rest of the team at Christopher Michael. After doing our homework on several caterers, we ultimately decided on Christopher Michael for numerous reasons, perhaps mostly because of the experience and professionalism of Matt. From our initial conversations, to our first meeting at the Jamesport Manor Inn (which we would also recommend for a fantastic dinner), to the dozens of questions and specific details we discussed over the phone and e-mails, Matt was always extremely helpful and quick to respond. Similarly, as we got closer to the big day, Matt offered his insights and experiences on our timeline for the reception and other critical details that we hadn't considered, even though those things weren't necessarily in the scope of our relationship. He also went out of his way to personally deliver some of the tables and chairs to our venue a day early for us to use for our rehearsal dinner. In terms of the day of, the experience could not have gone any better. The entire staff that was onsite acted professionally and efficiently; aside from the times that they were serving, they were never in the way, but always available when needed - they run a very smooth ship! And last, but certainly not least, the food itself was incredible! After getting Matt's opinion, we ultimately decided to go with French style service, giving our guests the option to choose from three entrees; everyone loved that they had the option to choose from three delicious entrees and that they could get seconds, or even thirds, if they wanted, although many of the guests had already filled up already on all of the delicious h'or deurves at cocktail hour! Even over a month later, we have at least one of our guests bring up how incredible the food was almost every day. Overall, from start to finish, working with the entire Christopher Michael team was as great of an experience as we could have expected. Not only did we have an incredible meal at our wedding, but we had a knowledgable, professional, and experienced team behind it, led by Matt. We wouldn't change a thing! read more

We chose Christopher Michael to cater my husband's 50th birthday party. From planning to event night the process was seamless. Chef/Owner Matt Kar has so many ideas and resources, and he put us at ease as we discussed and planned our event. The night of the party Christine, Patti and their support staff were amazing, the perfect combination of accessible, accommodating and quick! They really made the party flow. The passed hors d'oeuvres were exotic and plentiful and the main course buffet was delicious and never ending! After a big party, EVERYONE remembers how good the food was ( or wasn't !) and we are still getting compliments on the menu. We had our wedding at Pellegrini vineyard on 8/30/15. Christopher Michael did all the catering for our event. Matt's crew did an absolutely fabulous job. Very professional and friendly. From the pass around hors d'oeuvres to the French style service during the reception. The food was prepared impeccably. The quality and presentation of the food was absolutely perfect. Oh and the food was delicious as well. His crew did such a great job. During the cocktail hour his crew was passing around hors d'oeuvres. And we had a few elderly people attending our event sitting at their respective tables and weren't able to move around so good. We asked his crew to make sure get hors d' oeuvres. On their own, his crew made up a few trays hors d' oeuvres to bring them so they would have some. We thought that was so great. The following morning we had our family after the wedding brunch. We had the brunch at Jamesport Manor Inn. Very quaint place. Great place breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. The same quality and presentation of the food. They have a party room upstairs which is great for groups and the are completely handicap accessible. We would recommend highly to anyone interested in going out to Jamesport area or to the vineyards on the east end to try this place. I cannot say enough great things about Christopher Michael Catering, and specifically Chef and Co-Owner, Matt Kar. Matt was incredibly helpful while planning the catering for my wedding - he was attentive and responsive. He gave honest suggestions and helped guide us on amount of food, specialty tables, and hors d'oeuvre options. He also helped coordinate rentals such as chairs, tables, and suggested a trusted nearby tent company. And he was always willing to meet with us in person to answer any and all the questions I had, and believe me, I had a lot! The food at our wedding was great - it was fresh and simple and truly played to the surrounding North Fork farm-to-table feel. The servers and bartenders were all friendly and helpful and always made sure that my new husband and I had exactly what we wanted.
