I have driven passed this place for years, but never stopped until last weekend. I don't eat donuts often, but I enjoyed a few from there. I miss living close to this place as it was good for at least one or two breakfasts a week. I still stop through every now and then and am always pleased with the decision. Old fashioned glazed donuts and the kolaches are my go to's here and consistently deliver. Bread on the kolaches is nice and light and a tad sweet, almost like a thicker croissant bread on the jumbo sausage and cheese. Staff is always very friendly and the line moves quickly. Had to change my underwear twice!!! Saw that the reviews were generally positive but my first experience there was horrible. Had four of their kolaches and at first bite they were enjoyable but as for my digestive process not soo much. I've never had this reaction since I've been trying to eat at the best donut places in Houston and this has been at the bottom of the list for me. Will not be back. read more

Great tasting kolaches and donuts. Definitely made fresh daily. I tried the jalapeño sausage and cheese kolaches and it was perfect. Not too much excess bread but very tasty, not too spicy. The donut had a glaze strawberry icing on top, not too thick just right! Will swing by again if I have the extra time. read more

I've been here 3 times in the past month after reading some good reviews online about the donuts. They are absolutely amazing and the prices couldn't be better!! There is plenty of parking on site so the shop is easily accessible and the donuts are fluffy and delicious, Not overly sweet like some specialty donut shops. 10/10 recommend!! read more

For some reason I like that this donut spot looks old (Like as if it was from the 80-90's). I go here maybe like once or twice a month and usually get their kolaches and donuts. I discovered Christy's donuts 9 years ago when I started working in midtown off of Montrose. It's a great old school, no nonsense donut shop. They sell a really great product. Mostly fried yeast donuts and a few cake style donut offerings as well. They have extraordinary kolaches! They bread is soft and slightly sweet, with flavorful cheese and high quality smoked sausage inside. Not the tiny little pinky finger sized sausages, either, like the ones at other franchise spots, but The big fat ones that make the kolache more of a meal type affair, than a let down, like you would get elsewhere. They offer small and large kolaches, with or without jalepeno or cheese. Even boudin kolaches. The coffee is always fresh. There is a line sometimes, only because it's so good. And ppl know it. But the line moves very fast because their friendly and professional servers do a wonderful job of expediting your order. It's a family run business. And most days the father/owner is in the back working hard to bring you a fresh, quality product. You can taste the pride, and know right away that they are putting their name in everything they sell. Do yourself a favor, and skip the franchises next time and buy local, at christys, while also supporting the hardworking houstonians that make this city so great. read more

I've always passed this place and never stopped to try until my boyfriend suggested Chrisy's for breakfast last weekend. The line was understandably long for a Sunday morning, but we gave it a shot. Oh. My. Goodness. The bacon and cheese croissant was definitely a two-hander, and so deliciously buttery. It had me blurting out expletives between bites. The smoked sausage kolache was very tasty, with the right amount of spiciness. My mouth waters at the memory. Parking is not that great, but parking is never great in Montrose. I won't hold it against them. I can't complain when everything we ordered amounted to just under $7 for 4 kolaches, a croissant, and a doughnut. Not bad! Forget the other kolache restaurant; Christy's might just be a new weekend favorite. read more

Parking sucks but dont let that deter you from entering. There might be a lot of people here on any given weekend morning, but the wait is worth the donut. All their food is fresh and really good. Try the jumbo sausage and cheese kolache. read more

DIRTY pretty much sums it up. Normally, establishments will mop daily at the close of business but while youre waiting look into the corners on the floor and it looks like it hasnt been swept in a week and mopped in a month. And just think of all the DNA yummies on your kolaches and donuts. I ordered ham and cheese kolaches which were under the kolache section and i got ham on a sandwich biscuit cut in half with cold cheese. Ya know when you take velveeta cheese right out of the wrapper, ya, i had that on a sandwich bun with cold ham. you can forget about inquiring that you wanted a kolache as youre going to be told that that is a kolache. I was under the impression from the last 30 years of eating kolaches that they are stuffed away in dough and have melted hot cheese around them with warm ham. While the sausage kolaches were done right and looked like kolaches i was told that at that business that is how you are getting your ham and cheese kolache, well, which by definition is really not a kolache at all. Parking was a mess. I will only return to this location out of convenient and not because of service. read more

You get what you pay for. I knew I should of went to Shipley's Donuts but no this place is closer and cheaper. Next time I will pay the extra money for quality donuts. These donuts have a serious aftertaste and then there is the service. I could not believe that as soon as I walked in they looked at me and then walked to the back. I was professionally dressed I was on my way to work so I do not know why that happened. There is a buzzer on the door so they knew someone was coming in. Here's your typical donut place. Very busy in the mornings and on the weekends. There is limited parking, but people are coming and going pretty quickly, so there should be spots opening up frequently. The kolaches are amazing with soft bread. Everything is cheap. Only bad thing is that the place looks kind of gross. read more

First visit today after reading about them in an article "The 50 Best Things to Eat in Houston Before You Die". Seems like it's kind of a "best kept secret" because now that I've mentioned it to some friends they all seem to already know about it. Yay! Located on the corner of West Gray and Montrose - I've passed their location 100's of times in the past since I work in the area and to be honest I thought it was a vacant building. They open at 4:00 AM and close at 3:00 PM and it truly looks as if it's closed. However, when I went this morning I had to wait to find a place to park (that's a good sign to me) - but it didn't take long. They are getting people out of there quick - there were six people taking orders and checking people out while I was there. They were also helpful and nice while I asked what a few things were. You might want to give yourself a little extra time if you need to be somewhere at a certain time. I had the Jalapeno Sausage and Cheese kolache and I will definitely be going back for it again. Just enough heat for me - if you like things really, really hot this is not the kolache for you. I also had the chocolate covered chocolate cake donut - it was good, but I'm looking forward to trying some of their other donuts next time. Everything was extremely fresh. I got a dozen kolaches and a dozen donuts to-go for $21.00 and they threw in some donut holes for good measure. I'll be going back for sure. read more

These things are not kolaches! I'm Czech and they are way not kolaches--the dough is what a kolache is all about...-kolaches are a big deal but most of the ones made in donut shops and passed off as kolaches are not. You need to go to a Czech function/bakery--although Czech bakeries even get it wrong. But I have to say I like Christy's donuts...3rd place behind Shipley's (the best old-school donut), believe it or not, HEB, then Christy's--that's how I rank them. Decided to try it this morning based on such great reviews, I must say I was very disappointed. Got the sausage and cheese croissant, both were dry and crunchy, not what a croissant is supposed to be. The cheese danish was glazed so that sounded good, but it was so stale on the outer edge it must have been a week old. This place sucks. read more
