Stars taken off for poor service, quality for price, and obvious substitutions Service: Had a reservation, arrived earlier, there was no trouble getting seated, however once seated it took a long time before our orders were taken; They got the orders wrong twice, our waters weren't refilled until we were essentially finished with our meals; The chef seemed nice and came out to check on the meals and they greeted people coming and going, those were the only pluses there. Food and prices: The egg flower soup was loaded with extra cornstarch for thickening, the assorted sushi was 20 dollars for 16 thin slices (salmon, red tuna, tilapia, and octopus, the latter two not exactly highly prized...), no rice or soup included. The equivalent at Tokyo Garden is more for cheaper and at least equivalent quality if not better, and Mikunis in Davis is also cheaper for more and with far superior quality. The Sakura roll had a lot of cucumber filler as well. The general tso chicken was good, the only reason we will ever consider coming back would be to pick up general tso chicken as carryout, and I suspect there are better places in Redding for better prices as well. read more

My friend and I shared one of their sushi boats here - SO much food! Between the two of us we couldn't even finish it! The rolls were very good. I also enjoyed the eel. Pretty much everything on the boat was good. It all seemed very fresh and I tried some things I've never had before that were really tasty. Went there for a first date. I had never heard of the place so I had no knowledge about them. I ordered Kung pay shrimp. It was delicious! It was spicy and so good I could have eaten it all. I had to force myself to stop. I wanted left overs the next day. Our server was nice and very attentive to our needs. Always had our waters filled, etc. they served a little complimentary dessert which looked yummy but I gave mine to my date. I don't eat sugar. He seemed to like it. It wasn't a fabulous experience but it was good enough to try again. He eats there regularly and he LOVES their Mongolian beef. He gets it all the time apparently. Overall good experience. read more

I had heard great things from the locals about Chu's Too. It was not what I was expecting though. The service was great but the ambience was blah. The sushi "plate presentation" was poor and the flavors were bland. I'm not sure what the appeal of this place is. Maybe it's the only sushi place in town or the best of the worst. Not my favorite sushi in Redding, but it's certainly the fanciest (and most expensive). The tiny location makes it a great date spot, but not so good for large groups. Also, they have a number of Chinese dishes in addition to the sushi so you can go out with someone who isn't into the whole Japanese food thing. Save yourself the money, we went around lunch, my husband ordered walnut prawns the Mayo was rancid we told the waitress she said no sauce good. That order came out 10 mins before mine. The table next to us started getting their food we asked about mine she said coming soon. Finally mine came and it was drenched in sweat and sour sauce, which tasted like katsup. Quaint little place that is perfect for visiting. Had our Christmas Eve/Birthday celebration dinner here. I called for a reservation but it wasn't really necessary after all. There were only 3 tables occupied. Probably my favorite Chinese food in town. Fresh, doesn't taste like cardboard or overly salty (still plenty salty). Very fresh and tasty sushi. We weren't looking at prices and forgot how pricey sushi can be. Oops. Worth it, as it was very enjoyable. Cashew chicken is not printed on the menu but they still offer it and it is FABULOUS. Ok. I like the food here, but I think it's the most expensive Chinese food I have had outside of a Las Vegas Shi-Shi club. Its $13.95 per roll for the good sushi rolls. My wife gives the sushi 5 stars, but you can get all you can eat sushi in Reno for the same price as one good roll here. The General chicken is good, but it's $12.95 for a decent sized portion without anything else. Its another $2.50 more for steamed rice, soup, and fried won ton. That's not that bad, but my biggest pet peeve is that you cannot, I repeat, CANNOT, get fried rice without ordering a whole plate of it. Who does that? So, if you are on a company credit card or just don't care what anything costs, it's a good choice. read more

My husband and I moved to Redding a while ago and have really had a hard time finding good restaurants with good food and good service. This place really impressed us! Best sushi in Redding hands down. Their other Asian dishes are really good too! The service is great too. A lot of places in Redding lack good customer service but this place had such a nice waitstaff and the owner/chef is so nice too. ehhh I like their sushi, I like there lemon chicken, I like the generals chicken... the chicken chow mein was made with boiled chicken... not my thing at all and the noodles were pretty cold. the broccoli that came with the general tso chicken was cold as well and didn't taste fresh. was undercooked and tasted like freezer. service was fast and polite no complaints there. read more

We had dinner at Chu's Too a couple of weeks ago. I have been thinking about our experience and ultimately feel that comments are in order. First, charming atmosphere. However, food was less than mediocre. Egg flower soup was overloaded with large chunks of tofu, pieces too large and amount excessive taking away from the soup. One of us had a chicken dish, flavor fair, but only scant small pieces of chicken hard to find in the dish. I think mine was the worst of all and remembering it leaves me feeling kind of sickened. I had vegetable tempura. The batter was up to par, but it was a disaster as all the vegetables were a soggy mush. Any chef, American or Chinese, would never serve vegetables so far beyond their freshness in such a deteriorated state. Tempura is one of the more expensive menu items and one would expect a quality dish, but this was not the case. read more

This place has the best Chinese food and sushi around! I know that's it's not as elegant as Peter Chu's Skyroom but the service is far better and the food has more flavor and less expensive. Best orange chicken I've ever had!! So crispy and delicate with a very rich sauce. My boyfriend had the Mongolian beef and that was also excellent. Very flavorful and tender. The maitre d's service was beyond compare. He was so friendly and helpful without ever being pushy. There was really pretty art on the walls, too. Sushi in Redding is a crap shoot at best. Go the Chus Too. The fish is fresh and the service is great. It's pretty straightforward so don't expect unique rolls. This is my favorite restaurant, period. I have come here a few times a year for around 7 years now and have never had a bad experience. Their new amazing roll is fantastic! The bad reviews are definitely russian spies. Not really, but I can't imagine having a bad experience at this place. I only get sushi, and most of the reviews complain about tempura or another option. But the sushi is great, I could not recommend it more. I see allot of good reviews for Chu's, but I can't agree any longer. I had a roll that was supposed to have eel on the top and the eel was missing on both ends. It was like they didn't finish adding the eel. I'm guessing about 4 slices. The next problem with the eel was it was sliced so thin you could see through it. I couldn't even taste it. Next was the Chu's special salad, it only had one bite of seaweed on each salad. Not much of anything else on top either. Now onto the Kung pow scallops lots of vegetables and only 3 and a half little pieces of scallops for 10 bucks. Cutting back to save money is one thing, but they need to find savings somewhere else. Now they will have to cut back more because I won't be spending my $200 a month average I spend there. read more

Good Chinese food, but there are a few other places in town that make good Chinese. Chu's too does a great job with to go orders, referring to 'complete dinners' they do come complete, soup and all. I was impressed by the service and helpfulness of staff while I waited for my order, gave me water and a to go menu as well as absolutely everything you want with a meal to go from sauces to the convient box they packaged it into. I've had their sushi and while its OK their Chinese is good and overall a nothing to really gripe about. read more
