The okra and sweet potato fries were amazing the shrimp had a really awkward taste reminded me of metal or something. I should've gotten them fried maybe. I dunno but I wouldn't get them grilled again. I didn't try my hushpuppies. They had an amazing selection of sweets and I wanted to try them all but didn't and this was mostly because I didn't notice them until I had already swiped my card. I will definitely next time. I've been seeing a ton of great reviews for this place and was in the area and decided to give it a shot. Large menu (see below) with tons of options for just about anyone. Really casual environment. Nothing fancy about this place but don't let it fool you the food packs a flavorful punch that ranks up there with some of the best in the greater Birmingham area. A little on-line exploring after the dining experience revealed a pretty cool story behind the restaurant (you should check the whole story out if you get a chance), but the coolest part of the story has to be the Feed the People initiative that brings food to locals in need. The owner started a Feed the People initiative where customers can bring in two non-perishable food items and receive a free drink. On the 15th time they do that, they get a free meal. But, if that isn't enough they do their best to match all donation and find a local charity to drop these items off at. Really awesome to see people trying to help the local community! This alone is a great reason to support Chubbfathers! Appetizers Salads come with choice of Ranch, Italian, Honey Mustard, Bleu Cheese, Gringo Vinaigrette or Caesar and meat topping (Steak, chicken, shrimp, salmon and fish). Burgers (this is what I went with) : Zydeco (single) 1/3 lb. cheeseburger, 1 onion rings, 2 slices of bacon, Cajun horseradish sauce, lettuce, and tomato and comes with one side ($9.50) They also have a great selection of sandwiches, Po' Boys (Served on French bread with mayo (Cajun horseradish can be subbed), lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Po' Boys are served with one side) Seafood All plates served with a lemon wedge, your choice or two side items, and two hush puppies. Orders can be prepared grilled, fried, or blackened. They also have wings, children's plates, tacos, as well as regular and premium sides. If you're in the area you should really do yourself a favor and give them a shot. After asking the cashier a few questions we formulated our order, and it goes like this: Sloppy Fries appetizer (seasoned fries topped with a ground beef sloppy joe type stuff and cheese....killer!), Zydeco burger for the lady (burger topped with bacon, cheese, LTP, fried onions, and Cajun horseradish sauce), steak and eggs cheesesteak sandwich for the boy (cheesesteak topped with 2 eggs over easy), Vulcan cheesesteak for me (cheesesteak with sausage and Cajun horseradish). Went to Chubbfathers for the first time this past weekend. The parking lot was packed and they were slammed. We ordered takeout. After getting home and trying the Chubb burger, I knew why the parking lot was full. Best hamburger I have ever had, hands down. No comparison! The staff was super friendly and quick with the orders. Everything we ordered was perfect. We had some special requests that were all done. I know the Owner does a lot of charity work and this was one reason I wanted to try it out. Food was decent, but it is a dirty place. I won't be coming back for sure. I was really nervous that we would get sick. The table was dirty, the floor was dirty. We could see into the kitchen, which did not look very clean. You order first, then sit down and they bring it to you. When we ordered, the girl at the register told us the drinks were self-serve, even though it was behind the counter. It was rather awkward going into what seemed like an employee space to get our drinks. Finally, it's overpriced for what you get. Food was good enough, but nothing to write home about, and the prices were those of a higher-end fast casual place. Our first time here. The menu is printed on the wall, and you have to order at the counter and then go sit. Read over the menu, and the Staff seemed to expect me to know exactly what I wanted as soon as we walked in, from the loud sighs he was making behind the register. There was no one behind us. Strike one. For a small local spot, I'd expect the prices to be a good bit less pricey than they are here. I could not bring myself to pay $15 for a po-boy, so the wife ordered what she wanted and got something more basic. Total for two people was still in the $30-35 range. We went and filled our drinks, sat, and waited. No waiter service. Strike two. Food arrived nice and hot, but for $12-15 a plate for a dinner portion, we did not expect to leave still hungry. Before you assume, my wife is 105 lbs, and I'm 180. Strike three. It was somewhat tasty, but not *that* tasty. I won't be able to afford this place often, which is a shame. I'd like to see them succeed but they are going to have to reexamine their basics first. This is the second iteration of Chubb I'm aware of. They had Chubb's in old strip center in Alabaster several years ago where the original Papa Sais used to be. We went once and weren't impressed at all. Today post scrimmage game son was starving wanted burger or wings. We'd not been to this location/ variation of the Chubb restaurant so we gave it a shot after some reading some solid yelp reviews. Small strip center off the south bound side of 31 in Alabaster. Small end space. The format is order from the counter and the cashier brings your food to your table. She was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. They appear to be in between shipments as they were out of a number of their menu items. The menu spans tacos, burgers, wings, sandwiches and even seafood. Around 130ish there were maybe 10 occupied tables upon our arrival. Son ordered a Cajun cheesesteak w tots I had 10 wings w tots. The food was prepared to order. The tots were super crispy and well seasoned! The wings tho on the small side had good flavor. The hot was relatively mild temp wise. The flavor was good. I will go up a heat level next time. The Greek was something I'd never had in wing form so I tried it. It was legit Greek flavors like what you would see in a good baked chicken dish used to sauce wings. Pretty good. Would have been great if allowed to marinade and then baked. Glad I tried it. Was something completely different. Son looooved his cheese steak. Tender grilled steak, a Cajun horseradish sauce, onions peppers cheese, lettuce, tomato pickles. I'd probably skip the lettuce tomato in a cheese steak personally, but he really enjoyed it. The pickle slices were excellent. A nice garlicy flavored. I stole one. All in all a good experience. The young lady that brought out our food asked if we wanted sauces, ranch etc... she brought ranch to the table and didn't nickel and dime us for the condiments / sauces. I hate when places do that. The interior isn't fancy. Petty minimalist with a couple TVs and inexpensive tables and chairs. Seemed reasonably clean. We will go back for a burger. We overheard the nice hostess/cashier/server lady explain to a couple that one of their burgers had been voted best burger in Shelby co several years running and that one of their burgers is going to be featured on food network next month. The shrimp Po boy was a disaster. Although not known for being a "neat Sunday picnic" sandwich, this thing was a "fall apart" artist. And the impossibly tiny sliver of tomato tucked deep down in the crease of this oversized and unwieldy bun...should be removed from the item description The chicken fingers were just okay. A great sauce to go with them might have helped. The okra and the fried pickles and the tots CLEARLY shared the same fryer, maybe the same basket drop. Now I get it! 5 STARs from me! Good food is important, which they have. Got the Chubba and the flavor was amazing! Cheese, grilled onions, bacon, sauce, seared meat with that 'grill flavor'... heaven. BUT, what made the experience even better... the staff! I lost count the number of times I heard someone ask 'how's everything?', 'can I get you anything?' Should we expect that level of service everywhere? Perhaps. But we know it's unique today. But they have it!!! The experience was so great that I had to let them know, but was beat to the punch when I got up and was asked again 'how was everything?' Praise by me all around.
