Casual day out and decided chubby cattle was the right move for a chilly afternoon after walking around all evening. We got seated right away which was nice and our server Alex was attentive and on it for helping us order and cooking some of the food. Everything was as good as always, delivered fresh and fast. And the plates kept disappearing as soon as they were emptied. Overall, 5/5 experience, would recommend to others to give it a try.

I've been here so many times but this last time ruined my Chubby Cattle experience. Everything we were able to get looked very fresh. The main reason why I rated it lower than I would've liked was due to the SLOW service. Especially for something they did not have to cook. We sat there for 10 minute waiting for food that even one of the server asked us, "did you guys pay yet?" We had so many missing items that we never got. However our server was super friendly and did everything he could to accommodate us. He kept apologizing and I understand that some things aren't in his control. First time leaving a AYCE place still hungry. :(

Finally tried chubby kettle for the first time! I've been waiting for this since it's always packed with long lines. We were seated pretty quickly and maybe waited for only 10 mins (with reservations). The receptionist was friendly and showed us the snack/drink table and we love how thoughtful and inclusive they are with the selection. Overall we were impressed with the quality of meat and options. There's 3 different tiers to choose from and for the gold and platinum option, you're only allowed to choose one out of the 4 wanyu option, so they're not really ayce for that section. However, the actual ayce section does have some good quality meat selections and they're good quality meat, fresh and tasty. The sushi options aren't as fresh as expected although te hand rolls were pretty good and that's what we kept ordering from. The scallop with uni from the special section did not taste fresh and was quite disappointing. I'd like to point out the waitress and waiter who showed us how to work the iPad were very friendly and patient with their service however, the ones who bring the food to the table were not. Some of them did not seem friendly and would just left the plate on the table without explaining what it was. We received the wrong food twice and we had to waive at our waitress to let her know that we didn't order those items. Overall the experience here was excellent but compared to x pot I still love xpot more.

we came in on a wednesday night and there wasnt a wait. our server josh was very quick, attentive, and diligent when explaining the menu and everything. we ordered shrimp and they forgot it so we let them know and they were apologetic and brought it out super fast. there were free snacks and chips and soft serve and juice and sodas and tea! the milk tea was pretty good for cutting the fatty meats. there were a wide variety of items like wagyu and nigiri but the brisket was one of my favs! id def come back again if i was in the area !!

First time at Chubby Cattle and I fell in love with the meat choices and seasoning. Our waiter Zaid was amazing and helpful! Definitely recommend and would come back again! Thank you so much Chubby Cattle !

This is a tough review to write because I really wanted to love Chubby Cattle. I've had it bookmarked on TikTok for months, and it came recommended by a couple of friends. I made a reservation for 5:30PM for a party of four. * PROS * The quality of meat was very good, not just for an AYCE barbecue experience but for most restaurants at a comparable price point. They were good cuts, not at all fatty or grisly. Many also came pre-cut into bite-sized pieces so we could focus on grilling and eating, rather than cutting it up. The more premium steak cuts did come in one large piece but I found that appropriate to the cut. The meat came out very quickly and we always got all of the meat orders we put in. Our server was really nice and very attentive, super on top of clearing empty raw meat plates and changing out our grill often whenever it got smokey. She was an absolute sweetheart! We were also able to update our reservation same day very easily. I also enjoyed the self-serve beverage station! Super convenient. * CONS * While the meat was good quality, we only ever ordered "original" which is supposed to be marinated and seasoned. I found it quite bland, but this is on par with most AYCE barbecue spots. It would've been better if they had more variety of sauces or a sauce bar. There were only two sauces, one of which was soy sauce, a salt+pepper blend, and a chili powder pot. Again, this isn't surprising with an AYCE barbecue so I wasn't too hung up on this. For some reason, they weren't bringing out all of the orders of sides we put in. Especially the dumplings. We were missing at least 5 orders of dumplings, an order of calamari, an order of rice, and several hand rolls. They were also sold out of several items, including the buns and one of the meat options. We were not told this when selecting our tier. I really was disappointed when they brought out the check without the last few orders of dumplings. None of these missing items were acknowledged - I understand if the kitchen was running low or they weren't ready, but nothing was communicated to us. Finally, the part that really soured my experience was that we were practically kicked out the second we finished paying. Yes, there is a 90-minute seating limit but they also control when they can drop the check and come to swipe our cards. The host/manager literally came over the second our server swiped the last card and walked away to basically tell us we had to leave immediately. One girl in our party had gone to use the restroom, and the rest of us were actively putting on our coats. Like, we were in the middle of making to leave. But the staff came and started aggressively clearing the plates and telling us to move out of their way while we were gathering our things. Again, I understand that there are more seatings and there is a 90-minute limit, especially with the AYCE nature. But they control the pacing at the end with a few polite reminders from staff and a literal countdown on the ordering tablet at our table, so we thought we were managing our time correctly. I don't think we were lingering at the table for an unreasonable amount of time. And for the manager/host guy to come over and basically tell us to get up and leave immediately was a little jarring. We weren't lingering or hanging out, and we weren't ordering more food past the time limit. We were clearly making to leave. We would've been there maybe two more minutes. It felt incredibly rude and honestly, we left there shocked with the treatment. We laughed then, but I've never experienced a restaurant shoo me out like that in my entire life. The worst part, I sent my friends to wait outside while I stood near the host stand to flag down the friend who had gone ot the bathroom. They hadn't even seated anyone at our old table by the time we left! Yelled at to get up, all for nothing. This is a place I had originally wanted to try for a special date night with my boyfriend, as we would've enjoyed one of the more premium tiers together. Coming here for the first time with my friends was a trial of sorts. I'm not sure if Chubby Cattle will make back on the date night list any time soon. BUT the food was good, so I hate to leave a low rating. I understand the dinner rush is tough and that the staff might just be having an off-day. I would maybe try it again with only one friend, but not another group, just to give the staff that day the benefit of the doubt.

The vibes in here are great and honestly a refreshing addition to Chinatown. We chose to do the silver tier and it was more than enough food. We ordered the yellowtail carpaccio, cheese corn, and the rest of our meats. The fish here was great but the wagyu was the star of the show. We had Justin as our server and he took great care of us and explained the entire menu and how to order. Overall I would come back, since you definitely won't leave hungry for $58!

I love all chubby cattles! Been to the one west coast and here in Chicago. But I feel the Chicago one is lacking. It was great at the beginning when they first opened but not sure what had happen. Went here yesterday for my husband's birthday.Server was great but I see other workers wiping all utensils with Clorox/lysol wipes. I don't think you are suppose to do that. It's toxic to consume. Many of the item on the menu was out of stock which is very disappointing. Also drink selection is very limited compared to other chubby. The ice cream came out like a shake. Everything was just wrong yesterday. I think we won't be going here for a while.

Very delicious, kinda expensive bc $55/person for all you can eat for the cheapest package but A LOT came with the all you can eat - could order sushi, hand rolls, a lot of waygu beef options, sides, soft serve, so tbh it was worth it. I wish I knew which beef was which so I could point out my faves but honestly all of them were quite yummy, very flavorful, speedy to cook, and tender. The side sauce (the slightly sweet one) was bomb, went with everything really well. Love a corn cheese situation. Whenever I go to AYCE I think about how a former friend said "carbs are distractions from the meat" and it's def true bc I got full fast but did get to try all the beef options! They do charge for food wastage but no wastage here Excellent service, everything came speedily, our waiter Ronan was friendly and helpful and gave us a "break" from grilling for a bit and helped get the meat exactly to our desired temperatures (2 different temperatures!). Would definitely return.

Chubby cattle has been on my to-try list for the longest time. I finally had the opportunity to go with my coworkers to celebrate a birthday. I will speak about the structure of the building, the service and the food. To start, the front door is broken. On the hot humid day I was there, you have to pull the door with you to close after you enter. Or you have to push the door to close it after you exit. If not, the door will remain open. We checked in and then got seated upstairs. Our server, Justin, came over promptly with water and explained the different tiers. Justin was very knowledgeable with the menu and we decided to get the membership after his explanation. Then, we headed downstairs for our drinks. Justin explained that he can also bring the drinks up to us if we want but we opted to walk down and see all the choices. There was sprite, Diet Pepsi, and Pepsi for sodas. There was also milk teas and lemonade. Next to the drinks was the ice cream and little snacks. Once we got back upstairs, our first round of meats arrived! They explained the rules for ordering and I made sure we ordered every 7 mins. The orders were delivered promptly until they got busy. Afterwards, we did wait a little but Justin checked up on us every couple of minute. He even helped with my shellfish allergy! I would say that my table did not enjoy the shellfish option as it didn't seem fresh and cooked weirdly. Overall, it was a fun experience! We were grateful to have Justin as our server since he was so attentive and provided wonderful service. I would definitely come back in the future

Not my fave... We've had Korean bbq. A lotta times from a lotta different places. This one is just sub par. We ordered a ton of food but was never delivered that last portion of our order. It is what it is but this was a very expensive "what it is". We had to get our own drinks and desserts from downstairs. The service was fine. It's located in Chinatown so the day wasn't wasted by any means. It does make for some really pretty pictures.

If I'm only going to eat meat for a day or two, then I want it to be Wagyu. Chubby Cattle has been on my list since they opened, but I've been holding off to try them until I could try them with a friend that likes to eat a lot. The ambiance was nice, and I was surprised to learn that they offered two levels of dinning. This was the first time that I've been to a grill your own food type restaurant, and I was excited to cook up some meat. Our server Eleanor was amazing, and made the experience as enjoyable as possible. She clearly explained how to order the food, the time limits, the rules on waste, and recommend what to start out with. The cuts of meat were top notch, buttery smooth, and delicious. Every dish option we tried was delicious and unique. There were too many options for us to try them all, and we only order the silver tier. I will definitely be back again sometime soon to try everything on the silver tier that I didn't get to try, and to spoil myself by purchasing the Gold tier for a special occasion. If you are a fan of high quality meat, all you can eat, or if you are wanting to have a meal that is also an experience then I highly recommend Chubby Cattle. read more

After a last-minute change to our dinner plans, my boyfriend and I decided to head to Chubby Cattle, and it turned out to be the best spontaneous decision of the night! We took a Lyft straight there, and after a short wait, we were seated. The ambiance was lively and welcoming, with friends and families celebrating together. There was even a huge party happening upstairs, which added to the festive atmosphere. It's definitely a great spot for gatherings of all kinds! Our server, Baily, was absolutely amazing. They were incredibly sweet and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. Since it was just the two of us, Baily even offered to help us cook our meat, which was such a thoughtful touch. We ordered quite a few plates close to closing time and felt a little guilty about it, but Baily reassured us with their kind and personable attitude. The food was fantastic, and the service made it even better. If you visit Chubby Cattle, I can't recommend Baily enough--they truly made the experience special. We'll definitely be back! read more

Honestly the best ayce experience ever. Everything is tasty and I always feel well fed at the end, plus I has the best service from Simon. I always ask to sit in his section since I know I'm in good hands. Very personable and knowledgeable about the menu; he always makes sure I'm doing alright while eating. My favorite (excluding the grilled meats) is the tartare, scallop and the egg soup. The ambiance is great for big groups and intimate hangouts with the dim and red lighting . It's a lot do fun and always busy so try to make an rsvp. read more

The restaurant was just okay--nothing particularly special, aside from the steep prices. Our server repeatedly reminded us about finishing by a specific time, which really disrupted the dining experience. Dining out should be fun, not stressful, and feeling rushed is unappealing. While I understand time limits are common at some places, here it felt unusually strict--even being a minute over seemed like a problem. On top of that, the spoons at the front were dirty, and the milk tea machine was leaking everywhere. For the price you're paying, I expected much better service and cleanliness. This is our fourth visit to this restaurant, and unfortunately, the experience was not up to par this time. On a busy Sunday night, the staff appeared exhausted, which might explain the lack of consistency in service and food quality. The rice was mushy, and the A5 Wagyu rice bowl didn't taste as good as before. While the food is generally good and the atmosphere is enjoyable, the service can be hit or miss. The staff is quick to take your initial order, but it can be difficult to get their attention again for additional orders or to close out the bill. Our A5 Wagyu sat for so long that we ended up cooking it ourselves. The uni was disappointing, as it wasn't fresh, looking melted and not firm. We were surprised to receive only five caviar eggs for a dish we paid $75 plus tax and tip for--definitely not worth the price. The foie gras also seemed smaller than before, appearing to be less than 3 cm. If the consistency doesn't improve, I might consider other locations in the future. read more

Celebrated my son's birthday here and it was an absolute hit! Big shoutout to Tim for delivering top-tier service, super friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The food and overall vibe were everything we expected and more. If you're thinking about going for the Gold tier, don't hesitate -- it's totally worth it for the premium meat cuts. Also, don't miss free milk tea or soda with your meal, and grab some ice cream on your way out to finish it off perfectly! We had a reservation here for 1.30pm, but got here 30 minutes prior. They let us in anyway, so that was great! The food is amazing! First time coming here, and its definitely worth it. We got the silver, and it was well worth it. It includes the calamari, carpaccio, wagyu tartare, sizzling rice bowl, side dishes, the meats, and it was all really really good quality. Our server Ruilin Li was really helpful on telling us how to order, and the rules since it was our first time being here. BYOB! We enjoyed the vibe. The service is good and the food was great. We were just on a trip to Japan so I have to say the meat is on par, it's good. For the gold option the only problem I have is that you only get to order from the first two rows once. It's not a big deal to me because you are told this before choosing the gold option, so it's a personal choice if you want to try the best meats or not. It might be an issue for some but it doesn't take away from my experience so I give it stars. read more

The silver tier had enough options on the menu to be worth the price. Everything was pretty high quality, even the sushi which I was pleasantly surprised by. The handrolls get a little soggy if they sit out for too long so maybe order those one at a time. The meats were all great except for the wagyu fingers (i think is the name), which was like the wagyu trimmings(?), probably skip that one and the rest of the menu is pretty legit. The servers were nice but some of them are a bit all over the place just because its so busy so be patient with them. read more

I went here two fridays in a row. It's that good. Gotta know which cuts to pick, otherwise it may be hit or miss. I get the gold option that comes with A5 wagyu. I wish the limit 1 wasn't there. Maybe a diamond option in the future? Quality is really good as is the selection. I don't get the veggie stuff in the beginning that's mandatory, besides taking up space in your stomach. Kalbi was good too, and the miso something I can't remember. Also the aussie bms8-9 ribeye is great. Definitely don't come here if you're on a diet. I think they should make the milk tea super high quality so people would actually drink that and eat less meat. It was way too watered down. The soft serve wS good though. Service is pretty good too. My date and I ordered our food then as I was eating the seafood salad there was a lonnnnnng plastic piece that was shredded into it. I threw up my food onto the table and immediately stopped eating. Our server gave us $20 off the bill but we were still charged for 4 diff sushi dishes, shrimp that we left. We didn't over order, we just stopped eating after that. I almost choked and had to pull it out of my throat. My date was so upset the manager was taking forever to come to the table that we finally paid and left w out speaking to one. Never going back. We were charged for a ridiculous amount we didn't touch bc they didn't prepare it correctly. Left hungry, spent over $200 in food we didn't eat. Disappointed is an understatement. We were lucky enough to check this place out during their soft launch :) Service: Food: Ambiance: We were a group of 4 that came in around 5:30 pm on a Wednesday, we got in immediately. We ordered about 76 items, there were a couple of items missing but we were fully satiated so it wasn't a big deal. They were quick to bring us the missing items after our 90 minute time was up. The food was delicious and everything had a unique taste, you can tell they use high quality ingredients and the presentation elevates the dishes. Our favorite was the Salmon Carpaccio it was amazing! They really put in some thought to their interior design, it looks modern and edgy. There's a lot of space inside for customers. First time dining here and had THE MOST OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE! Me, my mother and brother, just walked right in and were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess (wish we knew her name) she checked for available seating and to our luck, there was! She was the first sign of greatness yet to come! Then we were greeted by our TOP OF THE LINE SERVER! Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and truly a kind and good person! And her name was JEWELRY! Remember that name! We will! She kept us up to date on our eating times and when to put in the order. She even stirred up the food in the hot stone pots while we cooked on the grill! She recommended killer dishes! The egg desert (not the tart, though the tart was delicious) was the absolute BEST! She suggested how to eat the meats by seasoning them lightly with a salt/pepper blend and a japanese barbecue sauce combo! Now we normally eat our meats without seasoning but her choice was terrific! I never stopped after her suggestion! On top of the attentiveness of JEWELRY and her ability to take care of not just our table but others as well, she even helped with signing us up for the annual paid service and our situation with validating parking in Chinatown! This is the next stage of awesome workers that made the whole thing a complete and total package of awesome - Ryan! Ryan, helped us with validating the parking after JEWELRY asked for his assistance. We're old fashioned and we don't have smartphones and Ryan's whip-fast, quick on his feet thinking and help and kindness and professionalism was incredible! He literally used his own smartphone as a means to make it all work out! Thank you, so, so much Ryan! I don't know if he was the manager or just THE MAN but either way he blew us away too! And here's the final twist on the already fantastic cake! JEWELRY was in TRAINING! She wasn't even a full fledged server! I've worked in the restaurant business and I KNOW what separates the best service and the... other kind of service and JEWELRY went above and beyond to the point of defining the meaning of the word EXCEPTIONAL! My friends and I were on the hunt for a spot to enjoy Korean barbecue, and we decided to check out Chubby Cattle. While it's a Japanese-inspired grill owned by a Chinese family in Chinatown, I was initially hesitant. My past experiences with Korean barbecue in the area had been hit or miss. However, I'm happy to say that Chubby Cattle exceeded my expectations--it was absolutely delicious. One of the standout features of this spot is that it's BYOB. Our server, Josh, was incredibly accommodating, bringing us little shot glasses for our beverages, which was a nice touch. The menu is digital, and we opted for the 90-minute all-you-can-eat deal, which we fully took advantage of. Josh was attentive and ensured we got everything we ordered, even following up on items that took a bit longer to arrive. For the barbecue, we tried a variety of meats, including beef tongue and pork, all of which were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The staff was consistently helpful, frequently changing out the grill to keep things clean--a small but important detail that made the experience even better. Toward the end of our meal, we were treated to free soft-serve ice cream, which was a delightful way to wrap things up. The only downside to Chubby Cattle is the price. Even with a group of four, we ended up spending about $70 per person. While it's not cheap, the quality of the food and overall experience makes it worth it if you're willing to splurge. One small suggestion for the restaurant would be to add a coat rack or hanging area near the seating. We visited Chubby Cattle for breakfast on Labor Day Monday, right as they opened, and the line outside was already insane! Thankfully, we arrived early enough to be among the first seated. The restaurant is two stories, which meant we had to go up and down for unlimited boba milk tea and ice cream--definitely a fun but slightly inconvenient setup. This place is best for groups of four or fewer due to how packed it gets and the seating arrangement. We came with a group of eight and had to split into two, which wasn't ideal, but understandable given the space. The dining experience itself was incredible. Chubby Cattle is an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) BBQ spot featuring high-quality meats, including Japanese and Australian wagyu. Everything was incredibly fresh, and they even offered sashimi. Ordering was done via a kiosk assigned to our table, making the process smooth and efficient. The restaurant enforces a 90-minute time limit per table, but that was plenty of time to enjoy everything. Service was top-notch--the employees were super attentive, constantly clearing our plates and making sure we were cooking the meat properly to avoid overcooking. The wagyu cuts we ordered had insane marbling, with the perfect lean-to-fat ratio, making every bite melt in our mouths. My personal favorite was the wagyu tongue--it was thinly sliced and paired perfectly with their sauce. The new spot lived up to the Chubby Cattle reputation and provided a fantastic dining experience. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable, ideal for a BBQ place. The layout was well thought out, providing a cozy yet spacious dining experience. The menu offered a diverse selection of appetizers, soups, sushi, milk tea and ice cream. We selected the gold tier- $75/person, and it was an absolute delight. The quality and the variety of the Wagyu and other ingredients were super outstanding, and each bite was a testament to their commitment to excellence. The staff was exceptionally welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Their professionalism and friendliness set a positive tone for the entire meal. The service was impeccable, with servers attentively taking care of our needs and ensuring we had everything we required. The only downside was that memberships are not yet universally accepted, but the manager informed us that this issue would be resolved within a week. Our local friend also purchased a $28 annual membership, adding to the overall value and experience. I'm so glad Chubby Cattle finally expanded to Chicago! I've always wanted to try their SoCal locations but haven't had the chance to. I visited during their soft opening, and overall, it was a great experience with just a few minor kinks to iron out. The tables felt a bit small, making it hard to fit everything, but the servers were very diligent in clearing empty plates to give us as much room as possible. Although one or two things we ordered didn't arrive, it wasn't a big deal since we were already quite stuffed. Some items came out quickly, while others took a bit longer, but the convenience of ordering on an iPad was a nice touch. The atmosphere was comfortable and not stuffy at all, which is a plus for a BBQ place. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the service was immaculate. The servers cooked for us so we could focus on eating, and they were on top of changing our grill to ensure the meat was always cooked on a clean grill. The menu was extensive and offered a variety of appetizers, soups, meats, and sushi. We opted for the premium option, which included Japanese A5 Wagyu, and all the meats tasted high quality. The fish was fresh, making the sushi options delicious, and all the ingredients used were of high quality. The hotpot can even be ordered when you're grilling, which is such a cool way to work things. There's even a very cool "melting" effect for the flavorings. Everything from the entrance to the decor made it feel like you had been transported to another city. The staff were warm and welcoming and service was on point. The food was of surprisingly high quality especially when you consider that this is an AYCE BBQ restaurant. What truly elevated our visit was the amazing service we received from our server, Aileen. She was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the entire meal. Marking the start of the big back reviews account I made my way to chubby cattle, a newly opened Japanese all you can eat A5 Japanese wagyu restaurant,the wait was a little long but it is not surprising as everyone is excited to try a new place. As I entered the restaurant the atmosphere was filled with chatter and liveliness and man did it smell good, the wait time for the food wasn't too long either as the servers plated up our tables efficiently after ordering. The servers were truly the best, what more can you ask for? Anything because the servers will go above and beyond to accommodate your needs at chubby cattle.( as for my experience) With tons of options to select on the menu whether it be the silver tier or gold tier,I opted for gold, I wanted the BIG experience and my did it not disappoint. The food was DELICIOUS, I ate everything and anything, they even have an unlimited milk tea and ice cream dispenser! This is our 3rd time at Chubby Cattle since they first opened We had requested for Amy to be a our server again and she did not disappoint ! We were a party of 7 and she was able to make this visit memorable for each one of us. She took the time to explain each cut and even offered cooking tips for getting the most flavor from the meat on the grill. Her attention to detail, from making sure we had our drinks and side dishes to ensuring our grill was always at the perfect temperature, made our evening smooth and enjoyable. Amazing place, excellent food, awesome service. It's an all you can eat restaurant but not the kind that has kinda lesser quality of meat. The beef tastes fresh and juicy, and they have a good selection of sushi, sashimi, and hotpot as well. We got the gold tier meal and tried sushi and lots of bbq meat. They don't have a ton of marinated meat options (only 1-2 on the menu) which tells you a lot about their meat quality. You want those non-marinated ones cause they are fresh to serve, no need for 89 different kinds of spices and sauce. Amy our server she's great, helpful and attentive. We had a good time and the meal comes with complimentary, unlimited milk tea and chocolate ice cream but we were too full to have any more. Will be back for the sukiyaki hotpot read more

We really enjoyed our dinner here. We do Korean BBQ quite often and this place was just different in the best way. The environment allows for fun conversation with a group, but also enough intimacy to share a date and hear one another. You are greeted with friendly staff who are willing to explain everything to you. You get a tablet to place orders of more items on, but the staff continue to come back and check on you and assist, which I really liked. The grill is small thin grates over a fire, which was nice compared to some other spots. The quality of the meats was excellent! Fresh, beautifully marbled meats. Lots of appetizer and side options. Their cold milk tea options on tap were awesome, and included in the price. Definitely coming back! read more

For those who haven't gone here yet, you definitely missing out. My only advice is show up hungry, you'll get full WAY quicker thank you think. First, service was the standout factor with this place. Out of all my experiences with Japanese/Korean BBQ, this was the winner- Audrey and Joey were a BIG reason this place was the best I've had. Audrey was attentive, had conversations with tables, and never had you waiting more than a MINUTE for anythin. Joey was also swift in asking if we needed anything. Again, both of them are exceptional at what they do as servers, but are extremely fun and entertaining as well! Finally, food was exceptional.
