They use a chicken thigh rather than a breast which makes it very juicy,and the batter is crisp and fried perfectly. Very casual atmosphere... it's basically just a pickup window with a seating area nearby which is shared by several restaurants. Other things to know: Seating can fill up quickly, be prepared to possibly eat in your car. Hours are limited ( check their hrs online before visiting). Parking is limited to steet parking and the spots aren't many. Apparently,they can shut down or close without any warning ( we showed up once after a 15 mile hike only to be turned away by a sign that said, "Closed due to an Event". We could have cried. It took five minutes to be ready, and service was standard and sufficient. The chubby's sauce was a bit sour for my taste, and the ranch was fine, better than hidden valley brand. The chicken was tasty and spicy for me (even though I only selected mild), but it was thick and not as tender as I would have liked. Exactly a year later and I was craving for some Chubby's Chicken. I was pleased knowing that their food is still yummy and portion size is food. I would say a was a bit disappointed with the chicken having a dark day old oil color & not that golden light crispy fresh look. Hence the reason for the 5 star to the 4 star. The heat level here is no joke! "Spicy" was not the hottest, there was a level above called "death" and one even higher than that. For some reason this made me think spicy level was more medium heat but spicy was definitely HOT, only my wife and I could eat it though we did give the kids a little bite to help train them. 3 Giant Wings: This was SO hot it had me coughing and eating with a runny nose after 2 bites. I'm not sure whats in their dry seasoning but it was strong! The wings are monstrous size and well worth the price, my wife said she only had wanted wings so I got this as a bonus for her though in the future I would get it mild, I ended up having to eat all 3. I ordered the sliders (2) with half order waffle fries and asked for the trimmings on the side so I can share with my toddler. Had to order no spice and I was amazed and how much food it was. The fried chicken batter has a sweet after taste, almost like brown sugar, and the meat was juicy and tender but not greasy. The buns were a mild version of the Hawaiian buns and were toasted on the inside but soft and pillowy on the outside. The cole slaw had fresh pepper and I loved that it didn't taste like mayo, you can actually taste the cabbage. Their sauce is your standard mayo sriracha and the waffle fries were seasoned and delicious. The service was friendly and the wait wasn't too bad considering they make everything fresh. I love fried chicken but I try to limit myself on the frequency I have it, and I typically tend to my friend chicken bookmarks overflowing! This place was long overdue on the list, and it's a little far from where I live in Mountain View, but I decided to place the online order and make the drive. I've actually tried this place twice now. The first time, I went with the level 4 spice (death) of the Nashville Hot Chicken Sando combo (not halal) and it was extremely spicy, mind you. Way spicier than you will get a level 4 at any other friend chicken place. I can tolerate a lot of spice, I typically go with the highest level at most restaurants (Thai, Nashville chicken and others) and can handle it, but this was something else. I needed to have a lot of water through my meal and still had to eat slowly to finish. I really liked the chicken itself, but without the discomfort of the spice, it might've been even better. The waffle fries were good, crispy, and not too oily. Liked their signature sauce too. The second time, I went down a level in spice (3 - spicy) and thought it wasn't as spicy as the first time. There seemed to be a stark difference between the 3 and the 4, maybe it was just inconsistency? The people in the truck making it were different the second time vs the first, so it could be due to that. The first time, I was warned about choosing the death. The second time, I got the halal chicken and overall felt the food wasn't as good. Even the fries seemed more oily. So I'm not sure. I would say 3.5 stars for the food, but I'm rounding off to 4 for now. I'll give them another try, I hope they can improve the consistency of the food. They do take 20 odd minutes to make the food and I had to wait a few minutes on reaching. There are a handful of parking spots and it is not too busy. I'd recommend starting at a lower level of spice and then going up the next time, if it's not too spicy for you. And order ahead of time before you pick up the food.
