This is the best sushi I've ever had! My son and I were in downtown Mobile for the first time and wanted to find a sushi restaurant. Chucks Fish came up in our search and was 2 blocks from our location. They had just opened on a Friday afternoon when we showed up. We didn't have a reservation (highly suggested you book one) but we're immediately seated at the sushi bar. This a a multi-story restaurant with smaller tables and a cozy atmosphere. The service was impeccable. I ordered the California roll and salmon nigiri. Y'all, the salmon was so fresh it almost melted in my mouth. I'm embarrassed to say I forgot our very kind servers name. My son struck up a convo with Sam, who was setting up the station in front of us. Both of them were so knowledgeable about the dishes they prepared and they were very welcoming. This was my all time favorite restaurant. I haven't been in a few months, but as always I look online at the "current" menu, or so I thought. Got to the restaurant and found only 2 of the things I wanted to order. Ordered several other things anyway. Unfortunately, the Brussels sprouts and shrimp appetizers (usually our favorites) weren't anything like they were in the past. Very disappointing. The sushi roll was noticeably smaller and just mediocre. We ended the evening with the blondie and ice cream which did not disappoint! Our server was very sweet and accommodating, but they were busy and we couldn't flag him down for a couple plates larger than the bread plates that were given. The reason the food rating isn't lower is due to the red snapper - while a small portion, particularly for the price tag of $38, it was delicious (ordered it grilled with the creamy sauce). I chose green beans for my vegetable and I was glad that I did; the baby carrots my friend ordered was 4 slivers of carrot. Also ordered a sushi roll b/c I'd heard the entree portions were not very big. The roll was pretty good, I ordered the Kenji. I read "tempura" in the description, but it's only bits of tempura *in* the roll - it's not fried. So that was disappointing, but the flavor was quite good. Definitely go for the cheesecake if you get dessert. There were three of us, so we ordered two desserts to try and the cheesecake with blueberry compote was the absolute winner of the two. The blondie was just... so bad... The wait for food is pretty long, but the waitress was good; attentive at the right moments. A friend had recommended Chuck's Fish for a dinner. We went on Saturday evening and both ordered the ribeye, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The steak was by far the worst cut of meat I've ever tasted in my life. Both steaks were fatty and overcooked. I almost shock the glasses off the table to cut the ribeye. The fries were beyond over seasoned, tasted like pile of salt. The waiter knew it wasn't to our liking as couldn't eat much. We paid the bill, as did not have energy to debate. Hands down one of the best places to go in Mobile. A MUST try. I was recommended by a friend at work and was not disappointed. You have to make a reservation if you want a table but walk ins are available to sit at the full bar or the sushi bar upstairs. First off, lemme say I'm a picky customer. Tori was an amazing server, she was sweet, attentive and made great recommendations. The sushi was fresh and well made. I'm from the west coast and haven't had such good sushi since leaving Cali. The seafood rigatoni was rich, creamy , flavorful and oh so tasty. The grilled fresh fish catch of the day was tender and perfectly cooked. Never had a meal I didn't need to add salt, pepper and in the case of seafood, lemon too, but at Chuck's everything was perfectly seasoned out of the kitchen. We went early because we did not have reservations and sat on the back balcony and we enjoyed the open are view of downtown it server was AMAZINGand she just happened to be from Florida. Our food choices were: Fried Ousters with hot sauce - huge oysters with a Louisiana inspired hot sauce that had huge oysters fried light and crispy - terrific dish Chick's Salad - my favorite of the night, various greens, figs, toasted pecans and full of flavor. It was AMAZING. You must try the Chuck's Salad then send me a thank you. Donkey on Crack - okay, my new favorite of the night and a huge portion. I have never had sushi quite like that. TNT - really good roll, a hint of spice but good. Kinnji - another really good roll without the spice, also excellent. Our server Tatum was fantastic, she was busy but made us feel like her only table. She is from Florida, so we had a lot in common. Her recommendations and that of our host, steered us in the right direction. I've been here twice so far, the first time was a much better experience. The food is pretty good, especially the Truffle fries, Kimchi Brussels & the sushi rolls we've ordered. The only thing they slightly lack on is the service. My first experience was awesome overall but the second, it was disappointing. Chuck's is a very well known restaurant and apparently very popular due to the fact you need a reservation most nights. That being said I definitely wouldn't make this your first choice. The staff isn't extremely friendly and the menu is very small. My wife and I made a reservation for date night there and were so excited. Service was very very slow. We decided to share a seafood platter, one of the most expensive things on the menu, we figured it was a decent amount of food. We ordered a sushi roll for an appetizer, it was very pretty and pretty tasty. About 45 minutes later our platter came out and we almost had a heart attack!!! It had 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and a piece of fish the size of a silver dollar!!!! What the actual hades.....it wasn't enough food to feed a small child and it was $50, I thought we were being pranked. The shrimp and scallops were decent and the fish was sub par. That being said we left hungry and had to get food elsewhere. So... if your looking for a super expensive child's meal, chucks fish is the place for you. I guess we just aren't Richie enough for chucks because i would have rather had a McDonald's fish sandwich. We will never be back and never recommend this place. I guess this place is just trendy enough to stay in business, because a child's plate at the shrimp basket has more food than their platter. My boyfriend and I came here for an early Valentine's Day dinner. It was during Mardi Gras season, so we luckily thought ahead and got an Uber. Otherwise, parking would have been a nightmare. The location is on dauphin street, which is great because there many surrounding bar options if you decide to grab a drink before or after the meal. It was a lovely candlelight dinner, however, the tables are closer to together. It didn't bother us, but something to consider if you're wanting a more private dinner. I came in wanting to try the scallop dish, but they were out of scallops that night. The manager did take the wine off the bill for not having the scallops. So that was nice of them! Heard this was a great place for seafood and sushi. Arrived for dinner, sat down, waitress greeted us, looked over the menu, decided on the tuna poke nachos for our starter and were in the process of deciding on what 6 tuna sushi rolls we wanted for our mains. Nachos came out and placed nicely on the table by a server. We looked at the tuna nachos and noticed they were not tuna but instead salmon. Called the server over and he said oh yeah we don't have any tuna in the house, let me get the waitress. Comes out and says oh yeah I guess we don't have any tuna so this is salmon. No apology just an explanation because of the weather we don't have any tuna. Um I took a bite of what was presented as tuna which was in fact salmon and could have had an allergic reaction. Waitress goes on to explain in a surly way that she just got to the restaurant and no one told her of the situation. This was 8pm and the restaurant opens at 5:30. So begin the lies. I looked over at the other tables and wondered how many other people were eating what they thought was tuna but was in fact salmon and they had no idea. We call the manager over and he gives us the same sad story about no tuna in Mobile. We asked what about the tuna in the sushi rolls you have offered on the menu, yeah that's alsos salmon. For some reason he didn't quite get the fact that what the real issue was the fact that they lied to us, did a bait and switch (no pun intended), didn't change the price of the items as salmon is almost half price of what tuna is costing the restaurant. We call the waitress over and tell her we are leaving. She was shocked and in her pleasant way asked, just because of the tuna? WTF don't you get it? We still paid full price for what was presented as tuna when it was much cheaper salmon. Manager gave us a $50 gift card and we left oh wait after we paid our over $80 bill. I then went on to explain that on top of the price gouging there was the very real possibility that because they were lying to the customers, someone was going to have an allergic reaction to the salmon and not even know why they were in the hospital. They would think to themselves, strange I didn't order the salmon rolls because I know I am allergic to salmon so of course, I stick with tuna. Dear god. Someone is going to own Chuck's if they keep up this lying. I don't care that you couldn't get tuna.....I care that you pretended it was tuna when it was in fact salmon and you thought the customer was too stupid to notice. Yeah yeah weather meant they couldn't get tuna, never mind that the grocery store we went to after leaving carried sushi grade tuna of which we purchased and went home to make our own tuna rolls. read more

Went to chucks as it was recommended for sushi!! Was hoping for a great sushi happy hour. Beer and wine half off (??? Question marks because the waitresses said different drink specials) and $2 off sushi rolls. When the sushi ranges $14-20 per roll, $2 off doesn't feel like a great happy hour deal--the kind that makes you want to keep ordering more and more sushi rolls! We ended up getting the dauphin roll and the roll tide. Despite the price, both were delicious! This is definitely a more 'upscale' restaurant with good ambiance. The staff were all very friendly and the manager took us to our table. The service was great. We sat outside on the terrace & it was perfect for a spring afternoon.
