This place is solid! This is a diner style restaurant, but it is definitely more upscale. I would describe this as La Carreta's rich sibling. The food is very good and a unique spin on the traditional cuban usual suspects. The black bean croquetta, short rib croquetta, and frita pastelito are all great and a must try. The struggle I embark on every time I have to choose between the classic frita, pan con bisteque, and pan con minuta is ridiculous. They're all sooo good, and regardless of what I choose, I am never disappointed. Surprisingly, the drinks are also very yummy. The old fashion is one of my favorites, but the tropical spritz is also great. The desserts are worth being noted too, my mother in law literally buys a couple every time she goes, and they're gone within the day. The only complaint I have is the coffee. A bit too bitter for my taste, and I always get offended that their colada isn't really a colada, more like an espresso. Definitely not meant to be shared like the traditional variant. read more

Brunch on a Tuesday was outstanding. Service was quick and attentive. The outdoor patio had lots of space, pretty and relatively quiet. Tried this spot out randomly and off that bat the two hostess were THE worst hostess ever they were lying about the seating order I had to rudely complain to them after seeing 3 parties get sat before me and I have 35 min into my wait time. They claimed they were sitting 4 tops at the time after I complained and what a surprise I was sat in a 4 top table and I was a party of 2. The service was soo slow it was ridiculous and it was already slowing down by the time I sat down.. the food came out before my drinks and I ordered the drinks before anything. The food was nothing out of this world. I dont recommend this place AT ALL! read more

Was a big fan when I last came here a few times 10-12 months ago. Went today and the verdict is a big "avoid" and "waste of money" We were seated at a booth that had just been vacated by folks who left without ordering (we should've done the same frankly after this experience). We were told that the cutlery and glassware (that had been moved around on the table) was "clean". We had to repeatedly ask and then politely demand clean glasses and cutlery. I then asked for a cafe con leche and was told that it's the same as a latte by the waiter. Err no it is not. He again repeated it is the same... ok, odd service. Our food - the conpleta and burger - arrived prior to drip coffee and my cafe con leche. In fact, while we ate (about 20 min), our simple drinks never came. So we paid and asked that they never show. Burger was good though the bun was cold and I remember the burger patty itself being larger. Good smash burger though. The completa was fine though, considering we asked for an extra egg which they say they included, the portion was minuscule. Service was terrible requiring you to advocate for yourself at every turn - wtf? Seems the Bib Gourmand rec went to their heads and the place has heavily deteriorated in the last year read more

We started off with a Frita pastelito, that was delicious. 10/10!!! Then we had a Cafe con Leche and a Cortadito. 7.5/10. It was good!!!! Lastly we closed with the pancakes, this was softly and had good flavor. The put like salt on top on the pancake which makes the different. Highly recommended 9/10. And the breakfast sandwich had a nice touch with the fries potatoes 7/10! The had 2 ambience outside and inside. Both super nice. Overall really great pricing and value! read more

Worst experience at a restaurant. They served au jus with their sandwiches in coffee cups that sit precariously on the edges of each plate. Well my plate the cup rolled off and onto the table (my phone) and all over my pants and shoes. They didn't even comp us for their screw up on how they served their food. Aside from that, the menus were printed so faded, no one could read them, the food was meh, and the manager came over 1/2 hour later and said "Well, let me know if I can help but we don't have spare clothes in the back". A couple of my friends and I were looking for a brunch spot that is different from our routinely local ones. After researching the million brunch spots here in Miami. I will say that this should be googles top brunch spot in the grove. This place was not only beautiful inside definitely giving the modern old school diner vibes. Enough about the restaurant let's get to the important part FOOD! To start off my boyfriend and I ordered a bacon egg and cheese croqueta, yup you heard that right! Who is the genius that came up with such a delicacy. But it doesn't stop there we also picked a mango and cheese pastry and I promise you I can probably eat it 10 of them in one sitting. Our waitress Taylor recommended the drinks and I could not say no after she elaborates on the guava gimlet. Now that I was beyond impressed with the starters and drinks I had no doubt that my entree was going to be spectacular. I ordered La completa which comes with 3 eggs cooked to your liking, cuban toast, potatoes and I added on some bacon to complete the meal. The presentation was spot on and the taste was delicious every bite was a burst of flavor and the potatoes weren't your average potatoes I don't know what seasons they used but they need to share that recipe. Overall if you're in the area stop by Chugs I promise you will leave there satisfied and stuff and honestly you get a bang for your buck a lot of food is served. 10/10 read more

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. They were pretty busy, but had outside seating available and the weather is pretty nice under the umbrellas. Had a Pan Con Lechon that was delicious. The outdoor courtyard is very cute. The food is not worth it though. I would probably go just to get a drink. I tried all the croquetas they had as well as a couple of pastelitos. Not good at all. You can get better (and wayyy cheaper) croquetas and pastelitos at any ventanita. The menu doesn't even say what coffees they serve. I had to ask if they had cortaditos etc which is very strange because it did show their beers and drinks. It's kind of like when ur dying for shake shack and all u got is a cold Burger King burger. I went to Chug's with a few friends. Two of us got the Miami Spice menu dinner and the other two got abuela's plate. The service was a bit rough, there were several items forgotten or brought out very late. We weren't there at a particularly busy time, so I was surprised. The wait staff was kind, we just had difficulty getting our food out correctly. The abuela's plates were delicious! The beans were seasoned amazingly. The ceviche was good but not great. The pork belly salad which was in my opinion the best dish of the evening! We also had the camarones which had a great texture and garlicky taste. I came to Chugs for breakfast when it first opened and it hit the spot!! Fast forward a few months and when i was walking by I stopped in quick for an afternoon pick me up and only ordered a cup of a coffee and two pastelitos. Ever since I left, I literally could not stop thinking about those pastelitos. I know you must be thinking how good can a guava and cheese pastelito be that I cant get anywhere else?! Well TRUST ME when I say you can not find one anywhere else like these!! They even have a peanut butter-guava pastelito. They change out the flavors occasionally which gets me even more excited to visit again and try a new one. I thought the guava one was delicious, well wait till you get your hands on the the frita pastelito. It is literally to die for. You better come early for these because they do sell out! That's how you know they are THAT good. All in all, even if they do run out of one that you wanted to try you really can't go wrong with any flavor. As I just finished paying for my coffee and pastelitos I noticed some homemade carrot cake on the window that looked delicious so I knew I couldn't leave without it, I asked the cashier to add me a slice to go and when he charged me I said woah $9 for one slice of cake?! Where do I start, other than by saying that Chugs Diner is my favorite restaurant in Miami. The food is nothing short of amazing, and you can get the best Pastelitos in the world, courtesy of resident chef Gio Fesser, AKA Pastelito Papi. The Chug Burger is one of the best you'll ever have, and the Loaded Yucca Tots with some toasted bread are a culinary experience unlike any other IMO. The vibe here is great, the music selection is always on point, and the outdoor patio is full of plants and fans and offers one of the coolest outdoor dining settings in Miami in the Coconut Grove neighborhood. Chugs also has a full walk up counter/ventanita for great coffee, pastries, and sandwiches too. Great service and all the employees are awesome and from all over the world too. Basically if you aren't going to Chugs after reading this review, then I do not know what is wrong with you! read more

I work as a server so I sympathize with wait staff, but this behavior was totally unacceptable given that the place was empty and there was many wait staff. If I lived in Miami, I could see myself at Chug's arguably too often. For coffee, for a work meeting, for breakfast, lunch... lots of scarfin' and chuggin'. First, let me clarify that coming to just get coffee isn't actually a thing. You will not be able to resist their delicious baked goods -- both sweet and savory! So start with Cafe con Leche with Cuban toast for dipping, and then follow that up with a house-made pastelito or a rotating special cream puff (I got a Boston Creme one). I also had to get myself a big Cuban breakfast (it's a Cuban diner after all!)... Mojo Roasted Pork with white rice, black beans, and banana. Classic, hearty, and comforting. The pork was pulled and swimming in flavor! I wish I had got more while I was there, even though I was filled to the brim with good Cuban cookin'. read more

Worst food I ever had for breakfast. The waitress actually told me, "sorry we don't serve healthy food". I simply asked for two eggs and whole wheat toast. They don't have toast and can only make fried eggs in a vat of oil. WTF?!?!. The latte was like water. How is this even possible. One of my new go-to's in Miami. Pics are from my first visit but I've been a few more times since and it never disappoints. Everything on the menu is good (especially the frita). They do a great job of putting new things on the menu which means you can try something new every visit. Went with my wife on Sunday December 22, 2024. My wife ordered the French toast. It was barely warm. She sent it back and received another barely warm French toast. The waitress was very apologetic and even offered to take off one of our drinks. So in total I was only charged my broccoli casserole and bloody marry. Which reflected on the bill (30ish with tip included). Check my bank statement on December 25, 2024 over 50$ charged. Idk what else they charged me or how they snuck it in after showing me the bill. It's disgusting that they'd pretend to be so apologetic to then charge me. Go to a ihop or dennys, or buy a pack of French toast sticks from Publix, you'll get the same quality food and not get lied and scammed out of your money. Or better yet go to any other Cuban restaurant and they'll serve you real Cuban food for 1/8 the price. This pretentious restaurant should be ashamed of itself. read more

After I passed by a thai place that wanted $16 plus for one meal, and I was in the mood for variety without totally breaking the bank, I decided to keep walking around. That's when I cam upon chugs. And then I thought, when in Miami, why don't I get some Cuban food. So i ordered a cubano, the sandwich with lechon and some banana bread pudding. I will say both sandwiches were delicious. They are similar. I think the cubano may have had the pork as well. But they were so good. The bread pudding was good, and would have been satisfying if I didnt go across the street to the fireman bakery afterward. But all in all A+! This is an overpriced Cuban diner with average food. The best menu items are the croquettes (which are sold individually) and the yuca bites. The menu is small (smaller than what you see online). I wanted the Chug burger and was told that it is only offered on certain days that the chef wants to serve it. That is very pretentious. I ended up having the Diner Burger. There is no shortage of great burgers in South Florida and the Diner Burger is not one of them. It was overcooked and dry. I had it with the Chug sauce which was nothing special. They also serve expensive (and small) cocktails in this diner. The place was empty on a Saturday night and I understand why. read more

By far one of my favorite places in Miami. Amazing service, food, coffee, location within the heart of Coconut Grove (again, the new hot spot of Miami). I would recommend the short rib croquets as well as the lechon. One of my other favorites things about the place is the ambiance. Think of a 50's diner in the heart of Havanna (although I've never been) but you get the idea. The place is absolutely spotless. Figuratively and literally. *We had asked for a table outside and with plenty of tables available, it took about 20 minutes to get seated. I had to go to the hostess table and it was only then that they seated us. *After sitting for more than 10 minutes, no one had come to take our orders. It was evident we didn't have a waiter/ress assigned to our table. *I usually order the Breakfast Sandwich but they recently changed it and not to my liking. Also, they don't have non artificial sweetener options available at the table. *The sandwich had me sick for a day after. I knew it would when I had left the leftovers in my car on a cold day for only 1 hour and it smelled of rotten food. Overall, it's a great spot.
