Fish burrito, unfortunately cut in half you don't see any fish _ it was all on one side of the burrito.

Fresh Fish, High Prices, and One Very Confused Burrito This is a solid spot for quality seafood in a casual drop-in setting... but your wallet will definitely know you were here. On this visit, I ordered a fish burrito, chips, and a soda. After tip, the total came to about $35. See pics. For that price, I'm expecting the burrito to have at least a rough understanding of where the fish is supposed to go. Unfortunately, one side appeared to be fish-free and the other side looked like it had inherited the entire ocean. About 75% of the burrito was rice, fries and hopes. The remaining 25% was all the fish. Now, to be fair, the fish itself was fresh and tasted great. That's never been the issue. The problem is that when you're charging premium prices, consistency matters. A $12 burrito can get away with having an identity crisis. A $35 lunch should have its ingredients evenly distributed. What's tricky is that I've eaten here before and had genuinely good experiences. In fact, previous visits would have earned a solid 4 stars from me. This particular burrito was more of a 2-star performance, so I'm splitting the difference and landing at 3 stars overall. Is the fish fresh? Absolutely. Is the restaurant good? Generally, yes. Is it worth the price? That's where the conversation starts.

First time at the Uptown Chula location, and was very impressed with the visit. The restaurant is huge and has indoor/outdoor seating with mister fans outside making for comfortable summer seating. I always suggest getting some fresh seafood to cook at home on your way out, the freshest seafood in AZ! The crispy fish tacos were beer battered and topped with a delicious Baja sauce, some of the best crispy fish tacos I've ever had. The spicy tuna poke bowl came with large helpings of fresh toppings and warm rice. Everything was so good, Chula never misses!

We came here after a massive shopping trip and were quite hungry. It was that weird in between time of 3:30pm where we hadn't eaten anything for lunch and it was super early for dinner. After looking up stuff in the vicinity, we found this spot. First off, it's a nice space with plenty of other businesses surrounding the area. There is ample parking, and they have plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating. There is a separate bar area (it wasn't in use when we visited) but I wouldn't mind stopping in again to try out a drink or two. The menu was posted and they also had a section where you could order seafood to go (take home and cook). The special happy hour menu was posted for the day and is from 3-5pm Mon-Sat and included deals on oysters, tacos, ceviche, beer, wine, etc. We opted for the Chef Choice Hand Roll, Ceviche as a tostada, Crispy Fish Taco, Uptown HH Taco, and Po Boy along with a white wine. The service was pretty quick and the food quality was top notch. The ceviche was a nice personal sized portion, as well as the po boy. The tacos were what I would consider remained street tacos and I probably could've had at least 3 or 4 tacos alone if I just ate the tacos, since they were the perfect size. For the hand roll, it honestly looked like a work of art and was quite delicious, and came with a nice sauce (part Wasabi part soy, etc from the taste). Presentation was excellent and the service was pretty quick. I had no idea that they have multiple locations in Uptown Phoenix and Scottsdale, with ebolrsalr options in San Diego and cannot wait to try them out elsewhere in the future. Definitely want to check this place out again and explore more of the menu!

It's a beautiful place and they had a lot of salmon. I got salmon dip but they only had 1 kind. I'll check back again and maybe get some of the prepared smoked salmon for a croissant sandwich

HH menu for 1/4/26 - no idea what fish for "Katsu" burger...

I have been to Chula before and I do like their fish entrees however their price point are only for those with Jansen Huang type of money so my piggy bank is usually saved up for when they have happy hour. I usually can't make it to their 3-5pm happy hour, but today, I made it to their all day Sunday happy hour! Yvonne, at the bar, was superb! She made me a great cocktail margarita and provided good service. The cocktail margarita was excellent and for $8, was truly a steal! I ordered their island poke and also their katsu burger special. Island poke was good, they use a salsa macha (which I love - TJs also has this and its great on vanilla ice cream - I had a taste at TJs and was like wow - I have to recreate this at home except can't digest certain lactose! I put salsa macha in my noodles). This dish also has watermelon radish (I love this veggie), grilled pina, and other veggies and the flavors were really popping with the tuna. At 4oz, this is more a starter honestly, and for $14, its worth it! The "katsu" burger was just OK. I actually thought this was a meat katsu, but I wasnt thinking fast enough to ask Yvonne which fish was being used for katsu, so when I saw pink when my burger was brought out, I was a little confused. Now, I think its probably seared tuna, but I guess I won't know, as the menu also didnt say. I am glad the jap jam and QP slaw was on the side because I cannot tolerate SPICY and it was spicy! The bulldog sauce wasn't for me. At $14 price point, Id pass on this next time. They have a really nice bar and outdoor patio and it was lovely to dine here on a Sunday afternoon! Id definitely stop by again for all day happy hour on Sunday when in the area!

Every time I find myself in DT Phoenix and Uptown Plaza, I'm drawn to Chula Seafood Uptown for lunch or dinner. They have great fresh fish items and sushi grade cuts. You can buy your fresh fish here to take home or order a meal and sit down to eat in the restaurant. There's table seating in large and bright, clean rooms with plenty of sunlight from large window walls at entrance. We had really great service, ordering at the counter last night. You're given a number and customer chooses their table in main seating, bar seating or outdoor patio. Food is brought to the customer. Bottled drinks, beer, wine, cocktails available. Tonight we ordered: - Blackened Halibut with two sides (Brussels and Clam Chowder) and Chimichurri sauce for the fish - Fish and Chips (3 pieces) comes with fries and coleslaw

So glad we stopped by Chula's. The food was fantastic -- Sundays come with Happy Hour and special Chef Features, which made it even better. We tried the Panko‑Fried Fish and the Ceviche Tostada, and both were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The vibe during lunch was great -- steady flow of people coming in, but it never felt hectic. Everyone working there was super friendly and made us feel right at home. Just a really chill, enjoyable stop.

Was at the shopping center and decided to get some fish & chips. They weren't that busy, it was a bit after the lunch rush so my to-go didn't take long but good gawd, it was salty as heck!!! Like inedible salty. I think it was around $24 down the drain. There wasn't even lemon in the bag that maybe could have countered the saltiness. How to you pack up fish & chips and don't throw lemon slices in the bag?? I won't be back.

    Hawaiian poke
    Joy T.

Who knows poke? I do having been born and raised in Hawaii. If you go to Chula's website, you will see immediately a picture of about 25 people standing in line. If you look closer, you'll see that there are more people standing outside also waiting in line. And rightfully so. They have a great amount of space with in room dining as well as on their patio. Merchandise adorn their walls on shelves. As well as their case of fresh fish. This is my first time at this location but I've been to their original site that opened 10 years ago in Scottsdale. I remember going to their pop up at a farmer's market a decade ago, before they opened their brick and mortar and thinking to myself "they must open their own storefront one day". I got their poke. You can tell how fresh it is just by looking at it. Some onions, Macadamia nuts, sushi rice, sesame seeds, edamame, carrots, cucumber and traditional sauce. I got this to go and even in the box it was colorful as it was appetizing. There is no stopping Chula. If you want the best of the best fresh seafood, you don't know what you're missing, if you skip what I've always known would be fantastic.

I always love popping into Chula for a quick bite. They have the freshest seafood in the valley! It is definitely on the more expensive side, but they do have some great happy hour specials. My favorite thing is the grilled oysters. The little sauce that comes on. It is so tasty. The fresh oysters are also always delicious. Last time I went. I did try the tuna tostada and that had really good flavor as well. Things do tend to be on the spicy side, but they are really delicious!

Fresh menu and some delicious specials. Indoor and outdoor seating, great service, great price. I had the fish tacos -- grilled mojo and crispy shrimp. Spicy, and well prepared (that avocado salsa is fantastic!). Servings are ample and presented on metal trays. You can also purchase fish/seafood to take home.

    Grilled Shrimp with 1 side

First time at Chula Seafood. I read that Chula was the best seafood restaurant in Arizona. We arrived at 5 PM on a Sunday for my wife's birthday. The restaurant was about 1/3 full, so we had our choice of tables. We ordered at the counter and then took a table at the window. My wife ordered a plate of grilled shrimp and a glass of wine while I got a 2pc fish and chips plus an iced tea. In all, it came to $56.03 plus tip. Our drinks arrived in ten minutes and our dinner arrived about 10 mins after. The grilled shrimp plate had seven sizable guys on it (with chimichurri) plus a bowl of dressed salad. My fish and chips had two small sized golden fillets, batter-dipped and crispy, atop some wonderful French fries, plus a small bowl of Cole slaw and a dill tartar sauce. For my meal, most everything was fine. The tartar sauce was VERY dill-forward, to the point where my wife, who loves dill, didn't even like it. The fries were actually the best part. Our dinner was fine, the service was fine, the price point was fine. The best seafood in Arizona? Definitely not. I've had much better at multiple restaurants, but at a much higher cost.

I had been wanting to come here for a long time, and was happy to finally make it in. I wanted to love it, but, sadly, I was very disappointed. The place is nice and enough--definitely not fancy. It is just what you'd expect from a place that you order you're food at the counter. There is a small, very casual bar, and a large patio. I saw a lot of families out there so their kids could play on the grass outside the patio. The man at the counter was nice, but that's about the only person we interacted with. Hubby ordered the grilled salmon with a cup of clam chowder. I thought the chowder was fine, but he did not like it at all. It did have a taste that seemed like a cross between sweet and vinegary (like Tabasco, but not hot). He did, however, really like the salmon. So did I. It was perfectly cooked and quite delicious. I ordered the blackened white fish with sides of fries and a Caesar salad. The fries were fine - - just regular fries. The Caesar salad was pretty good - - The dressing was kind of unique and I really liked it. But my white fish was not only small, but somehow it was super dry and mushy at the same time. It was clearly way overcooked. I love fish and have never left fish on a plate, but I did leave this fish on my plate this time. It's a little pricey. The prices would be fantastic for a full service place, but not so much for a place where you have to order at the counter and go get your own extra napkins and hot sauce in little packets. We liked around 50% of our meal--my caesar salad and hubby's salmon were really delicious, but he did not like his clam chowder, and I really, really did not like my overcooked white fish. We both did really like the yummy dill sauce that came on the side, but i don't think we will give this place another try.

Also I got a tuna burrito and it had hot and cold toppings mixed in which made the fish lukewarm when it reaches your mouth which was super unappetizing. The sauce was put on the fish so the toppings like vegetables all get mushed into one spot with no sauce while the fish is soaked with sauce so you have to take a small bite out of each side to get a good combo of sauce. But the toppings were SO dry it was hard to eat. They really should put all the toppings in one bowl and mix it all so everything is mixed well before putting it on rice which further dries out your mouth when you take a bite of the dry toppings. They also dont cover their toppings so the fish is just left in open air all day. Considering fish attracts flies there would be no doubt a fly could have landed on the fish you are eating! I get not covering the toppings, but leaving fish out like that is kind of disgusting. One thing I did appreciate was whoever did the hiring hired 2 workers who altho looked like they didnt want to be there (but who really wants to work at a place like this on the weekend), they were still kind, helpful, and answered questions, as this was my first time here. It was smart to have a camera facing the line so they could go in the back to be on their phone rather than some fast food places where you can see them just sitting on their phones behind the counter. When a customer came in they immediately came out to help them. It was nice to see. Also they have a sign in there that states "local, healthy, raw" which i find misleading as theres no way their ingredients could be locally sourced as theres no body of water for fish to grow in arizona so they would have had to source the fish out of state, making it not local. And the fish does not taste very fresh. If it were local fish it would taste way better than wherever they get their fish from! So i found it odd they would claim to be local. Also the only raw thing in this burrito is the fish and a few of their vegetable toppings. And after all the fried toppings, hot cheetos, and sauces i dont know how healthy this is. Certainly less "healthy" than a normal sushi restaurant. But i guess if you compared it to McDonald's i guess it would be healthy. There are signs in here saying they are part of best of phoenix in 2017 and 2019. I cant imagine a place like this being the "best" in the city as the food was just not good. It must have tasted better back then because today the food was bad. So im assuming they cut costs a lot the last few years to the point of ruining the foods taste. Id come back for the service if all their workers were like this. So ill give a star for that. But I dont think ill come back for the food. The rice really ruined the whole burrito as every bite contained the inedible hard pieces of rice. The food is mediocre at best. I left hungry too.
