I found this restaurant to be very disappointing. We were in town for the Annual Wildflower Arts & Crafts Festival and were starving. I ordered the BLT with fries and a Mexican coke in a bottle and it was very good, but not $19.00 good. That is robbery! We ordered the Queso as an appetizer and it was lukewarm, thick, gloppy and tasted like Rotel cheese dip! No, and I do mean no customer service. Small, clean place and food is delicious! Fish and chips were recommended and they were very good. Fish was battered nicely and fish was tender. Was first trying this restaurant person at the counter was friendly but all down hill after that, the kitchen couldn't get it together, 3 tries and my sandwich was still wrong. (1) sent club, not what I ordered (2) got roast beef and put mustard not what I ordered (3) then sent same sandwich with mayo not what I ordered. We were sitting right by the kitchen so we could see and hear everything, they were joking around in the back and then got pissed off when I sent the sandwich back a 3rd time and then they were made because I wouldn't just eat. So I asked for my money back. While we were sitting there another order came back from a lady that was behind us and she asked for no onions due to being allergic. What do you think she got onions. One star because they were about the only restaurant open in town on a Monday night. My wife, mother and I stayed stayed in town and needed a dinner. In this place, you order at the counter and they will bring the food to you in the dingy back room - as we didn't eat in the bar which is a separate building. My wife my wife chose the fish and chips which was more like fish nuggets, but she said it was tolerable. Mom had the Monte Cristo and onion rings. The onion rings were obviously overdone, and the breading on the Monte Cristo was under done and doughy near the meat. The cheese on one side look to be Velveeta and the white cheese on the other side was normal, but the ham was simply sliced luncheon meat, like the cheapest stuff from a grocery store. Flavor was off, almost like the oil it was cooked in was rancid. Basically inedible. I had the patty melt. The meat Patty was overdone and tasteless - almost as if they put the meat Patty in the deep fat fryer and then pressed it on a grill. Rye bread was saturated with an off flavored oil and fried. We had the fish and chips which tasted fresh not frozen. The tartar sauce tasted like fresh made and the fries were delicious but overly salty. We ate outside away from the bar which was really noisy. You can eat the food in the bar but you have to order the food at the restaurant. read more

Came out today to look around Salado and stopped here because of the reviews. I had the Monte Cristo. It was good but not the best I've ever hand and it did not come with the raspberry jam like a typical cristo. The onion rings were like fast food onion rings. Nothing special. My son had the Patty Melt. He said it was good but not as good as Whataburger!! My husband had the Chicken Corden Blue with grilled chicken and it was lacking in flavors. Handed off to aggressive guy in kitchen when we asked for a refund. He got VERY aggressive and I felt very threatened by his manner. He refused a refund, so again we waited. . I had a delicious swiss mushroom burger with a side of cucumber tomato salad, and my husband had the chicken everything salad. Both were very good - the burger was really juicy and tasty, and their salads are always well presented - loads of good stuff on them, they don't scrimp. I have had several other things there before, and it is always good. The cashier is very friendly and when they call your name for food pickup, she comes and delivers it to your table if she is not busy. All in all, a great experience! read more

The food is pretty good, but the bar service is horrible. I would say they should hire people that are out of high school, but that is a disservice to high schoolers. Good luck opening a tab - and if you buy anything, be sure to order it from someone that does not have to go look up the price.
