Great service, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Food was pretty tasty. Cool atmosphere, outdoor seating overlooks the creek.

Came here around 12:15 on a Friday for lunch. Not a lot of people here, but it also was good Friday. You have to wait to get seated, and hopefully it'll be with if someone sees you from the inside. Got seated and it took around ten minutes to get drinks ordered. Waitress was super nice. Ambiance is very unique inside. It's got brick walls inside but looks a bit fancier, but not a fancy if that makes sense. They have an outside area that's got a cover so you don't have to deal with the bugs. They have gluten free food! Gluten free bun, and even states on the menu if it's GF or cross-contaminated. The catfish and hush puppies are both gluten free, but anything that's fried is still considered cross-contaminated. We ordered the catfish meal, true Texan burger, and mushroom Swiss burger with gluten free bun. The catfish was good. Was moist and the batter wasn't too thick. The tartar sauce was sweet, but we're not big fans of it anyways. Fries were really good, had a good seasoning (some had a bit too much salt) and had a nice great crunch/crisp to each one. The mushroom GF burger was cooked perfectly, the patty had a great mesquite grilled flavor to it, the mushrooms in the Parmesan cream sauce were great. The true Texan burger was huge, but cooked perfectly and had a great flavor to the patty. Beef patties were probably 1/2 pound, and definitely worth the size. Had some problems with the service and food, where it was slow and had some minor problems with the food. They didn't have brisket, but were still charged with that extra price. Overall really good food and really great time with family. It is a bit pricey, so make sure you've got some extra cash ready for the bill.

This was my first time at The Gin. It was a great experience. Sat outside on the outdoor patio with a view of the creek. Service was fast and food was delicious. One of the best bowls of chili and cheesecake tasted phenomenal!

3.5 We had been in the area several times before we opted to finally try this place. We were able to get a table right away and got our orders taken pretty quickly. The food did take a bit of time to come out but what we did order was good. I liked the stuffy as it's called. We were a bit disappointed that the cheesecake sold out before we could get any. Bummer. They do take away drinks so that was nice. The restaurant was quiet and pretty open being located inside of an old brick building and there is a large lot for parking. You can also find some other food places and a sweet shop right next door.

This is a nice location for a sit down meal. Adjacent to downtown with a large fee parking lot located next door. We dined at 7pm on a Friday night. No wait. I was sort of disappointed that we were seated in the back room, which also doubles at the banquet room. Just didn't have quite the same ambience as the main restaurant. There is a long patio that overlooks the water. Way too hot to sit out there this summer. It would be nice to do in the fall or winter. The service was friendly, though slightly inattentive. Everybody enjoyed their entrées and portions. The Avocado Steak salad was delicious and my 4 oz steak was cooked just the way I liked it.

We started the 2025 list and we are more than half-way through the list as of June 2026. Heading to the spots in West Texas takes some logistical planning, patience, and lots of gas for the drive from the Texas Gulf Coast. On our recent BBQ quest to West Texas,we drove home via Fort Worth from Amarillo with our eyes set on hitting one of the most consistent BBQ joints in Central Texas, Miller's Smokehouse in Belton, TX. This was our fourth time to visit Miller's. Unfortunately, Miller's Smokehouse had a surprise overnight fire late February 2026. That hasn't stopped them from feeding the community great food from a mobile trailer. They had an abbreviated menu of the BBQ staples like brisket, chicken, pulled pork, pork steaks, and St. Louis Style Ribs, and assorted sandwiches and sides. Generally, I'm a Texas Trinity traditionalist. But we he had our fill of brisket, ribs, and sausage on our West Texas journey. Instead, we jumped at the Smash Burgers! First time for us and they made a favorable impression. My wife had the Single Smash. My son and I had the Double Smash. Of course we had to try the tallow Fries. Wow! Homemade buns, oversized patties, cheese, with a smattering of pickles and burger sauce. We destroyed those burgers. Compliments to the kitchen staff cooking up some great food. The tallow Fries, seasoned with just the right amount of salt were a perfect crisp while being soft in the center. Don't cheat yourself - try the Fries. We arrived around noon and there was a very short line at that time. Parking is easy with ample parallel parking and free lots close by. The staff took good care of us. It was a bit warm but they had shaded picnic table seating with plenty of fly fans at the table to keep the critters from buzzing to nibble at your food. Before we left, we inquired about nearby restrooms to wash-up before we got back on the road. We were directed across the street to Muscovy Coffee Roasters across the street. It turns out that Muscovy is Miller's upscale sister coffee house that opened days before the February fire. I could not help but notice the spacious seating area that was packed. Nor the rich roasted coffee wafting through the air. They also serve an interesting menu of breakfast items and homemade Kolaches. Got to go back for coffee and Kolaches next time. By the way, the restrooms were Buc-ee's clean+. This is the fourth time we visited Miller's Smokehouse. Hat's off to the pitmasters and staff at Miller's Smokehouse for their perseverance. We'll be back after they open the revitalized restaurant. Hoping to meet Dusty the next time.

They recently placed as the #1 BBQ spot in Texas for 2026, so of course I had to swing by. We came around 1 or 2 pm on a Saturday, and there was barely any wait to order our food. I got the beef rib, the brisket, the poblano jack sausage, potato salad, and the mac and cheese. By far, the beef rib was PHENOMENAL! Juicy, melty fatty, and easily able to tear off pieces with just a plastic fork alone. This was perfection. The brisket, I wish that I had specified that we wanted moist fatty, as I think that we were just given the leaner cut of the meat, but regardless still good! Poblano jack sausage was cheesy and tasty as well! After you order your meat, you order your sides, and I really liked the potato salad and mac. Both were great! Onions, pickles, and bread were all complimentary, and you could get as much as you wanted. I also greatly preferred the spicy bbq sauce than their normal. The interior of the restaruant is homey and country-style. Also loved their selection of sweet teas and sodas! Glad that this place is so close to home!

The standout was the sausage sandwich. We opted for a spicy sausage, and it was delicious. The brisket birria taco was tasty, although it was about $11 just for one taco, which we did not expect. We thought it would come with more. I read good things about the Mexican street corn, but it was too creamy and had a burnt taste. The first few bites were good, but it then became cumbersome for two people to finish. The medium container was huge. I spent two days eating the leftovers and ended up throwing it away because I couldn't stomach it anymore. We also wanted mac and cheese as a side, but they were almost out, and it looked really liquidy.

The brisket was not as tender as I expected, particularly from a restaurant that highlights brisket as a specialty. The pork ribs were even less tender, the meat was difficult to pull off the bone. We headed to the restaurant and placed an order of over $100, but the discount still wouldn't take at the register. The employee went to get the owner, Forrest, to assist. It turns out they had discontinued using Restaurant some time ago, but Forrest graciously honored the 20% discount as a one-time courtesy, which we truly appreciated.
