Okay, just as I previously suspected, eating in the bar area bumped this review up a star! It's a little sunken room with a cool secret-y vibe. Service was great. Our bartender had a lot of great recommendations on what to order and also sang a lot, which was delightful. I ordered the Southern Chicken Sandwich and my husband had the Ranch Fried Chicken Club. We were both VERY happy with our sandwiches, but the fries were the real star of the show. Delicious. One complaint is that my sandwich came with chipotle mayo, but I thought it needed more chipotle mayo and asked for a side. I was charged $1 for it. Avid readers of my reviews (i.e. nobody) will know that I am often annoyed when I'm charged for a sauce, but charging me for a sauce that ALREADY COMES on my plate and I just wanted more of feels especially egregious. I suspect that if I had specified "extra chipotle mayo" at the time of ordering, I would not have been charged, so that is what I will do next time. read more

Food was ok. Service was ok but we only had one server, and she was obviously have trouble. Looks cool inside, but we got seated at a dirty table in the back. We had a reservation but still had to wait 20 mins outside. Not a big deal except there is zero room to wait where they are calling customers up and where they are checking in. The food came out quickly, was well prepared, and well seasoned. Our server was very attentive, and very nice. The dining room has nice wooden tables with matching chairs, and plays music at a respectable level (classic hits). It gives millennial burger restaurant without all the pretentiousness. I had the Thursday special, fish and chips. I'm a sucker for cod, but I think it was well battered and not over-fried. Wish there had been a little malt vinegar to go with it, but I enjoyed the lemon on it. The fries (or chips for those across the pond) were well seasoned with salt, pepper, and something else that I couldn't identify but it tasted very nice. The food was good, we had a brisqet quesediĺa and bread pudding. Food delicious. Ambiance, we came, my mother and I, for lunch. We wanted the patio because of the breeze, and i had my SD with me. The servers are very young and rather inexperienced. I guess they thought water drinkers dont tip, because it took 45 min to get the food and they brought it all at once, desert and etre, no plates. Tgen they asked a while later if we wanted anything and i asked for water. She never came back. This is a higher doller place, so mediocre service is a big minus. It is not THAT busy. Seater is a talker,,,,, i mean alot. Id say, get the servers trained better and it could be 5 star. Older people drink water and have more disposable income. It does affect the tips. read more

Went here with family and friends for lunch. I had then chicken ranch mac n cheese drizzled with jalopeno sauce which I asked on side since I was not sure if it was spicy, it was not infact it almost taste like ranch dressing. Mac n cheese was not cheesy enough but that could be down to preference. The others in my company seem to enjoy their meal. Came here around 12:15 on a Friday for lunch. Not a lot of people here, but it also was good Friday. You have to wait to get seated, and hopefully it'll be with if someone sees you from the inside. Got seated and it took around ten minutes to get drinks ordered. Waitress was super nice. Ambiance is very unique inside. It's got brick walls inside but looks a bit fancier, but not a fancy if that makes sense. They have an outside area that's got a cover so you don't have to deal with the bugs. They have gluten free food! Gluten free bun, and even states on the menu if it's GF or cross-contaminated. The catfish and hush puppies are both gluten free, but anything that's fried is still considered cross-contaminated. We ordered the catfish meal, true Texan burger, and mushroom Swiss burger with gluten free bun. The catfish was good. Was moist and the batter wasn't too thick. The tartar sauce was sweet, but we're not big fans of it anyways. Fries were really good, had a good seasoning (some had a bit too much salt) and had a nice great crunch/crisp to each one. The mushroom GF burger was cooked perfectly, the patty had a great mesquite grilled flavor to it, the mushrooms in the Parmesan cream sauce were great. The true Texan burger was huge, but cooked perfectly and had a great flavor to the patty. Beef patties were probably 1/2 pound, and definitely worth the size. Had some problems with the service and food, where it was slow and had some minor problems with the food. They didn't have brisket, but were still charged with that extra price. Overall really good food and really great time with family. It is a bit pricey, so make sure you've got some extra cash ready for the bill. read more

This place is our goto place in belton (especially in the downstairs bar area). Tonight, we were seated in restaurant area and no server showed for 15 minutes. We asked our hostess to find our server. After watching them talk, the server looked at us and started busing another table. We walked out and hostess said "sorry".... I ordered the "Vegetable Trio", the menu desciption says "any three sides of your choice". $11.99. I get my three sides, they were pretty good, but then, the bill, and the manager "Bree" I think she said her name was. They charged me the 11.99 plus 10.99. She said because one of the sides was a premium side. I said the menu doesn't say "any three sides excluding premium sides". Ok fine, then you owe me another "regular" side for the 11.99. It's like she could not comprehend that, and even said "I wrote the menu and no one besides you has had a problem". I said I'm not paying until it's straigh. she refused to call anyone, like an owner, said she didn't know their number, and that she was calling the police if I didn't pay. I should be the one calling the police because I paid 11.99 for 2 sides because you charged me 10.99 for the third one! The Gin has delicious food and drinks, however, the service is atrocious. We give this restaurant a shot every few months in hopes that something has changed, and we were very excited to hear about new management in hopes that service would improve. Tonight, we were seated and had 3 wait staff walk past without acknowledging us at all. After 13 minutes of being ignored, we left without a single comment from any server or hostess. During our time waiting, we also watched another large party with food at their table waiting for silverware, to which the waitress returned with utensils for only 75% of their table. As a local, our options are limited and we are very disappointed that the Gin is no longer an option for us. read more

This is a nice location for a sit down meal. Adjacent to downtown with a large fee parking lot located next door. We dined at 7pm on a Friday night. No wait. I was sort of disappointed that we were seated in the back room, which also doubles at the banquet room. Just didn't have quite the same ambience as the main restaurant. There is a long patio that overlooks the water. Way too hot to sit out there this summer. It would be nice to do in the fall or winter. The service was friendly, though slightly inattentive. We didn't have a server for the first 30 minutes. Our order took over an hour to get to our table. The server and manager apologized and said we would get a discount for the wait. The 20ft brick walls are a marvel to look at; and we had over an hour to stare at them while waiting for our food. Honestly, this place has potential. But the lack of service, the minuscule portion sizes and the blandness of the ribeye display how this place is overpriced and deserves to fail. Please go to a restaurant where the Manager won't lie to your server stating that she put a discount on the final bill when none was added and tried to up charge for an included side. My husband and I came for our day date and I almost thought the date was going to end before it started. My husband went ahead of me to grab a seat as I finished parking the car and when I arrived he had still been standing in front of the hostess while the hostess took an order over the phone.. waiting. The Gin at Nolan Creek looked very promising from the outside. It's sits right by a river where you can go tubing, bring your family and pets, or walk. The appetizer we had was the fried deviled eggs and they were very good! The main entree I had was the Cotton Skillet and it was pretty meh. The eggs were cooked about 3 minutes too long. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, but the toughness of the eggs overshadowed the whole entree. The other main entree was the Nolan Creek Scramble. I cannot speak on this because I did not taste it. The service was friendly and the food came out relatively quickly. I would go back, but only because of the location. I'll probably try one of their sandwiches when I do. read more

We went to MHB college to check out the campus and were told to check this place out. The establishment was located downtown surrounded by other restaurants. From the outside the building looked old but one inside it looked beautiful. The brick and wood gave it a great vibe. The staff were friendly, the place was clean and people were friendly. Every single element was great! This was my husband's and my first time experiencing The Gin. We dined on the patio facing the creek. Service was incredibly helpful and not pushy. The bartender started serving us before another took over, but both were attentive, had good suggestions for first-timers like us, and checked in just enough. Everything was delicious: the Appetizer, the drinks, the entrees, and the dessert! (I was torn between two entrees and got some BBQ brisket on my Mac and cheese side for a small up-charge.)
