Old school, but not as Churchillian you might think. One of the few places left in the USA where you an light up inside. I don't smoke, except for the occassional cigar 5-6 times a year. Here they have a solid selection, torch lighters and servers who know their stuff! Its clubby, but I take issue with the blonde wood, c1985. I would much prefer a dark mahongony look. Complimentary bar snacks (by request), bleu cheese olives, smoked almonds, and snack mix. Who does that anymore!? Good whiskey selection. They try to complete with the craft cocktail scene and have an inviting menu, but the results aren't par for Denver. Not bad, just pricey and mixed by obviously traditional bartenders, not mixologists or enthusiasts. I did enjoy the Grand Manhattan, though it is not a Manhattan, no vermouth. Really an Old Fashioned with Luxardo cherry syrup. The $18 is justified only by the fanfare of the drink served in a short glass, accompanied by an additional pour kept in an ice bath. I love smoking cigars and going to cigar bars, so I'm always looking for somewhere new and good to go. Churchill's is located inside the Brown Palace (just go thru the lobby and thru a set of double door's and there you go). It's very nice in there and feels like an old school bar. Everything is covered in wood and there's a few nice chandeliers. A very nicely stocked bar with a avery cool bartender in attendance. He came by several times to see if we needed anything and brought out a very nice assortment of nuts to snack on. They had a good portion of the wall covered in cigars for sale. There were some nice brands in there, although we didn't purchase anything so I'm not sure how their prices were. I brought my own. Prices on drinks were about what you'd expect. $8 for mixed drinks, so nothing too exorbitant (or cheap). Just writing the review is making me want to smoke! I'll be back. read more

This place reminds me of the Driskill in Austin, TX, but with more soul and cigars! The decor is rich, the food is delicious, the cocktails are magical, and the cigars are the cherry on top! If I had know that this bar or Brown Palace Hotel existed, I would have definitely booked my room here during my work's conference. One of the last indoor cigar bars in Denver! And, a historic and great place for a drink and cigar! The food was really good as well. Wish they still had the oysters Rockefeller on the menu. If I were to review Churchill's ten years ago they would've been rated four stars. Sadly, no longer. As CO loses more and more cigar bars there are more limited options and Churchill's is only one of two that are downtown. (That I know of, if anyone knows of any other than this and the other Than Delany's please let me know) because of the limited options, especially in the winter, we were on a quest to satisfy our cigar cravings. As always, we pack our own cigars because options are almost always limited in bars so I won't pretend to know much about the selection but it looked limited but on the higher end. It is a nice classic cigar bar lounge. i.e. Large sized leather lounge chairs and couches, dark wood, and more classic drinks such as scotch on the rock, whiskey and what not as opposed to the nouveau drinks you find otherwise. Obviously this makes sense with the ambience and the drinks are still very good. With that said, there is a fine line between a great comfortable leather chair that looks worn in, and a leather chair that is too worn in and is no longer comfortable. This is a bar designed to look "older" and I love that, but a well designed revamp would do wonders to update the classic look without looking "new" and modern. Some updated "man leather" furniture would still look classic and timeless but wouldn't actually be worn out. This would do wonders for the place, to update without looking updated. Our waitress was ok. Mildly attentive and considering the bar wasn't empty but certainly not overly crowded the service was decent. Not paired with what I would expect for the price. At 11pm I'm sure they are tired and ready to go home but at least act like you are happy to be there. Watching all of the service members look depressed was a tad depressing. What bar has last call at 11:00 on a Saturday? The demographic has also changed quite a bit and I love a great classic old style "Mad Men" bar. It used to look this way and ten years ago someone in a hoodie and baseball hat wouldn't come here but somewhere along the line in society this is somehow ok everywhere, apparently including a bar/lounge that used to cater to businessmen who dressed as such and women with heels and nice dresses, not like they accidentally stumbled in from two blocks down. This affected the ambience for me as well. I just don't understand why people do that. Look, there is a place for everyone. If you prefer a more "hipster" place this isn't for you, if you want to impress people or like dressing up and are that kind of person, then go here. Not to be a self-fulfilling prophecy but if your outfit makes you feel uncomfortable here, then you probably should go somewhere else. This just isn't that kind of lounge. It's a quiet lounge that is obviously meant for older businessmen with money or at least like looking that way. If you roll in with an Affliction t shirt and see a man with his colleagues wearing cuff links, you aren't in the right bar anymore than he would feel comfortable at a place you liked so take it for what it is. That is honestly not meant to be an insult, it is just that kind of place. To each his own and if you aren't a fan of d-bags, you wouldn't like it anymore than a d-bag would like a more modern and hip place. I prefer quiet, businessmen d bags. I'm ok with that. I like to be in my element and if a place that caters to old snobbery isn't your jam, you won't like it much. But I'm not 22 anymore so I'm ok with not being cool. :) Overall a nice classic cigar bar is always appreciated, but I miss the Churchill's that use to be, not the Churchill's of today aside from the good drinks and that they still fit the theme of the Brown Palace I miss the cigar lounge of yesterday. This is my secret little hide away! Hidden within the historic Brown palace hotel of Denver is the Churchill Cigar room. Interestingly it is one of the few remaining in the country. Think dark wood interiors and plush well appointed furniture. I don't even smoke and I love this place! The smoke level isn't even that bad, often with only one or two people actually taking cigars. Just relaxing in the environment makes me feel like i'm on some extravagant movie set from the 30s. I mostly like to enjoy some champagne here. They do serve food here, so you can get their delicious truffle fries and feast on some oysters. I'd suggest bringing friends here before or after a night out is a great idea! I wanted to like this place, I really did, but there were a number of reasons I won't be back. #1) Slow and forgetful server. My drink took nearly 20 minutes to arrive, although I was sitting about 6 feet from the bar. I asked for a glass of water and it never arrived. If it were a one off, I'd have just let it go, but as we neared the end of our evening another group of similar d-bags rolled in and sat directly behind us with the same "look at me, look at me" attitude that made me want to put my cigar out on their face. *deep breathing exercises* OK, I'm better. I love the hotel Churchill's is in. It actually adds to the persona of the bar. Very reminiscent of old Denver. It was Saturday night, late and it was packed. I had to wait for a table since I didn't have a reservation. In the meantime I picked out my stogie and ordered a Bushmills neat. Sat down and drew on that cigar like it was my last breath. I hadn't had a cigar in 3 years so I was going to enjoy it. At the end of my evening o asked for the check. The guy roped forever, so I gave up my table to standing guests, went to the restroom, walked around the hotel lobby and after 20 minutes of loitering I go back to the bar and I still didn't get my check. Poor guy was the only one working the floor, so I went up to him and asked the be checked out. The pot guy thought I bailed on the check. I laughed it off and left him a good tip for his hard work. A good place to go to in downtown Denver for a wondrous hamburger. There are three options: 1) buffalo 2) Kobe 3) non-Kobe / non-buffalo. Spend the extra USDs and get the Kobe; the quality is simply amazing. Tender, moist and compelling. Most hamburgers made of non-high grade beef have little to no flavor and worst sometimes offensive flavor. This is a cute little bar-restaurant where it is designed to look like Sir Winston himself might have been enjoying his daily in-take of Champagne. There was a large selection of cigars! Amazing--I guess Denver has not allowed smoking in-doors. The menu is small and predictable; the portions and quality are large. The service was really friendly and made us feel not only welcomed but were placed at ease. A good eating experience, even though Denver is not one of my favourite restaurant cities. read more

I have been coming to Churchill's for years! I love this place! However, at my last visit, I was sorely disappointed. I arrived at 11 am and was the first and only one there as they open at 11. The bartender who is new brought me a glass of water, and then completely ignored me for literally hours! I had to walk up to the bar to order a drink, and upon returning to my table was ignored. Not one time did he come to my table and ask if I was OK. I smoked my cigar while my wife was in the Spa. I had to again walk up to the bar and ask for a menu. While I could have ordered a nice cognac, I decided on the Grand Manhattan. Top shelf liquor is used, of course. The cocktail is more than what the glass can hold. I truly appreciated that they reserve the remainder of the cocktail in an iced container. They also have a nice selection of cigars in various sizes available. I tried an Alec Bradley Prensado. It was a tad over $20, but worth it. Churchill maintains their humidors well - it also appears that you can store your cigars onsite as many shelves had names on them. This is not a place for the smoke haters as it's a cigar bar. It's located in the lobby of the Brown Palace, and has excellent old-school drinks along with a limited menu. The kobe burger and gin martinis I had there were fantastic. The burger was requested medium rare, and dripped down my chin on each bite. Flavor was fantastic. This was one of the better burgers I've had and cooked to a perfect T. They have a decent selection of cigars as well or you can bring your own to smoke. read more
