We had booked a reservation on Open Table for a Sunday at 11am, when they open. Loved the vibe of the place.... It's giving Irish pub. It's covered in wood, brick & is beautiful. You feel like you've stepped back in time and are sitting a piece of history. There's also a really cool rooftop area, but it was too hot out to enjoy when we went in July. We sat inside. We started with coffee, pimento cheese croquettes & sausage rolls. Both apps did not disappoint. The pimento croquettes had a hush puppy texture to them. The outside was a fried, crunchy breaded exterior that wasn't greasy like typical croquettes. The inside cheese flavor wasn't overwhelming, which I was worried about because I normally don't like pimento cheese (my husband ordered). I ended up having 2! It had a buttermilk ranch that complimented them perfectly. These surprised me with how great they were. The sausage rolls were also delicious. It came with 2 small rolls, which were the perfect serving for my husband and I. The sausage was huge! Not a typical sausage link you would imagine. Nonetheless it was cooked perfectly, juicy & great serving of protein. It was wrapped in a perfectly baked, thin, flaky crust - adult pigs in a blanket but with great quality ingredients. They were served atop a bed of mustard. We both had the chicken and waffles as our entree. These were the best chicken and waffles we've ever had. The waffles were served warm with blueberries, strawberries a lbs powdered sugar on top. They were perfectly fluffy and made from scratch. The chicken tenders were crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The breading was perfectly proportionate to the chicken filling and wasn't greasy as I've experienced with fried chicken elsewhere. We both finished our entire plates! The portion sizes here are great. Our server Jaylen was great. She was extremely kind, attentive and provided great service. The restaurant has a $15 all you can drink mimosa option. We opted out, but thought the price was great. We're from SoFlo where it's typically $25 at most places. That being said, the prices here are very affordable! We will absolutely be returning and can't recommend it enough. read more

Roof top vibes! Came here on a Sunday as soon as they opened to enjoy the rooftop. I had a mimosa flight and the brunch board. The brunch board was BEAUTIFUL. After we sent them back, the new batch was powdered eggs. The grits in the shrimp and grits were not as creamy and "southern" as we thought they should be. The first time I came here about 3 years ago, I really enjoyed it - the food was delish. However, I noticed that the server was just kind of not hospitable. We just recently went back, and the bartenders were also not hospitable again, so that kind of dampened the experience for us. The ambiance is nice - cozy with a historic feel. They have a fun rooftop bar with fans, and a cool indoor bar area & cozy seating. So I took a group of people from work here on a Tuesday night. we were seated right away and given menus. The server was training a new employee and doing a great job. Lots of standard English Pub fare, several draft beers and a full bar. Menu full of things like meat pies, Bangers and Mash, Prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, etc. Several other dishes, salmon, shrimp, burgers, etc. I started the night with a Gin & Tonic and a Scotch Egg. Egg was mild in flavor and seemed to need a bit more seasoning but the egg was a prefect soft boiled, not hard and dry like so many are! I opted for the Steak and Ale pie, Chunks of tender beef cooked with onions and Cremini, Shiitake, & Oyster mushrooms together with and English Style ale. Almost a puff pastry crust instead of a "pie" crust. A glass of William Hill (a good fruity Napa Cab with a bit of oakiness) helped to wash the Beef pie down. Food was good, service was great. She did a great job keeping track of orders and keeping people happy in a group of 16 people! I will certainly stop back buy for a pint or two next time Im in Savannah. read more

Our table was ready almost immediately upon our arrival, and we were seated with menus to pick through the offerings. It was busy today, perhaps since we chose to dine during peak brunch hours, our server was delayed getting to us. He was pleasant and apologetic, but service pace never really picked up while we were there, so there was some unexpected lag between drinks, appetizers and our main courses. However, someone was always ready to fill that Mimosa glass! The atmosphere was a bit noisy but conversation was not interrupted by it, and the food was very good all the way around. Nothing,...I mean nothing, was left behind on those plates. We skipped dessert although they had fine offerings of bread pudding, chocolate layer cake, etc. We were all too stuffed to keep going. Stopped in for dinner. It's actually one of the original (if not THE original) rooftop bars in Savannah. It's been years since we came for dinner. Our server Josh was amazing! My fiancee and I were considering hosting our wedding in the venue space here but after a down right disappointing experience we've taken Churchills off our list. The food was lackluster from beginning to end. Our appetizers (pimento cheese bites and she crab soup) were just okay but our entrees were a total bust. I ordered the prime rib and Yorkshire pudding- I was told the prime rib was cooked only to medium rare, which would have been fine. However, it came out much closer to medium, sections of it seeming to be well done making it taste closer to pot roast than prime rib. The Yorkshire pudding was cold, tough, eggy and served upside down on the plate. My partner ordered A steak medium rare, but it was cooked so unevenly parts were so rare he could not eat them. I couldn't tell you what part of the meal caused it but both of us wound up with upset stomachs. Half way through the meal I Even found myself making a dash to the restroom! Neither of us finished our plates after that. Even the service was a disappointment. We were only checked on directly after receiving our food and not again until we flagged them down for the check. Not a smile or pleasantry to be had. It would have been one thing if it was a busy night but we were one of only a handful of tables in the whole place. We were walking around trying to decide what to do for lunch when we looked up and saw this rooftop dining area. It looked cool so we decided to check it out. I love a good pub! I love to try new things so I started with a beer I've never had. It was on draft and it was called Southern Harvest Light by Pretoria Fields. It was a light lager and very good. Once I saw Cottage Pie on the menu I knew I had to taste theirs. I love Cottage Pie! There are different versions but this one was traditional ground beef with peas and carrots topped with mashed potatoes. It was delicious. I loved it but couldn't finish it so I took the rest back to the hotel. I'll have it for breakfast in the morning. This dish was served with a side salad. The service was great. Everyone made sure we were well taken care of and the atmosphere on the roof was very cool. It was like our own little hideaway. There were about 10 tables there spaced apart from each other. This was ok but a bit disappointing for our first meal in Savannah. We came here because it was right across the street from our hotel. They gave us water to begin with, and (this is not the restaurant's fault at all!) the water is awful. We live in Louisville KY, which has some of the best tap water in the world. This water had a really odd flavor. I believe it's just a Savannah thing though. Instead of ordering a fountain soft drink, I ordered a double Bacardi and Coke to kind of drown out the taste of the awful water. we started with the black and tan onion rings. I am kind of torn on these. They had a very good flavor, and they all looked good, but many of the pieces were over-done (even though they looked fine) and had a burnt flavor to them. I probably wouldn't buy them again. I got the bangers and mash. They were fine. I feel the "bangers" and the "mash" could have had more flavor to them. But I did like them. My husband got the fried chicken with macaroni and cheese (and mashed potatoes.) The fried chicken was way overcooked and very dry. I talked him into using the side of gravy he got for his chicken rather than his mashed. He did like the macaroni and cheese, especially the individual size presentation. This meal was an $80. meal but was worth about 2/3 of that...maybe. I get Savannah isn't really a foody town and downtown is a bit of a tourist trap, but we were disappointed with the food. Y'all know that scene in Mean Girls when Regina George writes the Burn Book entry about Cady Heron? That's how I felt writing this review for Churchill's. Absolutely without a doubt the single worst meal I've ever had the misfortune to subject myself to. Poutine was fine to start and then everything went straight downhill. She Crab Soup was salted to the high heavens and tasted like it had recently escaped a tin can; came with a healthy layer of grease on the top. Dealer's choice whether you'd mix it in or leave it floating. Two of us ordered the prime rib and dear God was it an atrocity. Soggy and fatty, somehow both under and over done. Gray in the middle and yet blue on the outside. Make it make sense! Brussel sprouts have been dwelling in a Cambro in the back of the walk in for no less than three months; skunky, charred to a crisp, and unpleasant. Yorkshire Pudding? Hope you like the taste of nothing! Egg and cardboard with the most mediocre gravy you've ever seen. The only truly edible thing on the plate were the mashed potatoes, but really it's impossible to mess those up. Whatever's going on in the kitchen needs serious psychological evaluation and let's all say a prayer for all the tourists Churchill's has inflicted damage upon over the years. read more
