I took mom here for lunch. And we sat on the rooftop bar area. It was a beautiful day in downtown Savannah. The service was right on. They took really good care of us. That she crab soup was amazing. You must try. We split the crabcakes. The crabcakes were delicious. I highly recommend them. Then we split their house salad with grilled shrimp and a balsamic vinegar rat which was a white balsamic. On our first night in Savannah we decided to try this place out. The live music was extremely loud and made it very hard to communicate to the other person in my party or the server. Don't get me wrong, I am young enough to to appreciate entertainment with my meal, but it would have been nice to have some eardrum left after the meal. To start this adventure off I ordered a Stella and the server brought me my drink. After taking a sip I noticed not only was it not Stella, but it was incredibly sour and flat. I told the server and he went to check on the issue. After returning he told me they he originally thought they connected the wrong keg, but actually they were out of Stella. So I am not sure, at all, what he had brought me. For the appetizer we ordered the fried pimento cheese bites and bacon Brussels sprouts, for the entree, I ordered a steak and ale pie and my girlfriend had the French onion soup. The Brussels sprouts were beautiful in appearance, but despite their well cooked exterior, the inside was still hard and cool. The bacon aspect was comical. There were two strips of bacon in a tight mass in the center of the sprouts. The pimento cheese bites were completely flavorless, lukewarm, and doughy, but we tried to keep high hopes for the main courses. The steak and ale pie was served with fries, which were overpowered with garlic. This was a stark contrast to the lack of flavor in the steak and ale pie. Although the meat was perfectly cooked and tender, the "sauce" was devoid of the characteristics you expect of the ale part of a steak and ale pie. The sauce tasted like equal parts beef gravy and salt free ketchup. The "pie" crust was a sheet of dough over the top of a cast iron bowl. More crust would have possibly made it better, not likely though. The French onion soup smelled great, tasted like unsalted onion water. There was an obvious lack of bread that is expected of a French onion soup and the bare minimum amount of cheese. Overall, I would not return, but it's possible they were just having an off night. But there wasn't a positive aspect from beginning to end. read more

Seeing that I'm British and this is a British pub, yep, I'm definitely a fan. It had all the trapping of a typical family friendly pub that you would find in the UK. It was big and busy, on the day that I dropped in. It's probably a good idea to make reservations, if you plan to eat but since I was mostly trying to get out of the rain, I was happy just to find a seat at the bar. The bar was fully stocked and the two bartenders were attentive, knowledgeable and comfortable mixologists. There's a bar menu with a good selection of items to choose from and a couple of television monitors that might leave you needing a chiropractor. I only had a couple of drinks and a good look around, from my bar stool. I was told by the bartender that the toilets were on the lower level of the pub. I wish I could say more about this place, since I was told there's an upstairs and downstairs that I didn't get to see but trust that I'll update you, the next time I visit Savannah. read more

We went to eat dinner at this place at 7pm on a Sunday. The first thing our server said was "we're out of pretzels, onion rings and sausage rolls." The next problem was when we got our bills. We requested the bill be split. We got them looked them over handed over the cards. When she brought them back one bill was doubled!! Glad we chose Churchill's for lunch. We started with the French Onion soup which was nice and hot and cheesy. Then had the Churchill's Nibbles plate with onion rings, fried green tomatoes and sausage wrapped in pastry which was delicious (especially the wrapped sausage). The main dish we split was Steak & Ale Pie. It tasted as great as it looked! I liked bites of it with horseradish dip but my hubby liked it just as it came. We walked in and three hostesses were hanging out at the back of the bar. As we walked in, we tried to make eye contact to see about getting seated. A really disappointing visit, to say the least. This is one of the spots I was really excited to try, based off the reviews, that I took the time to make reservations. No issues with being seated when we entered, the place was at minimal capacity. We were placed in a back room that was occupied by one other table and waited about 10 minutes for anyone to even stop by the table. Drinks were ordered and they were delivered promptly, but the charcuterie board we ordered - the one for $17 - literally contained 2 slices of three types of meat, and three wedges of cheese. Super sparse. I know these boards can be a profit center for restaurants, but don't make it so apparent that you are ripping off the customer. Wife ordered the fish and chips. It cam out as a fillet on the plate with a pile of soggy chips on the side. Nothing like the very nice presentations that can be seen throughout Yelp. Her fish tasted fine, but the chips were lackluster. I ordered the $20 pork chop. they called it a "Hunters" cut which ended up being MAYBE a 5oz piece of pork with a 1/2" bone attached to it. What exactly are we hunting here? I know I was hunting for a sizable piece of meat to eat and the value for my $20. The mashed sweet potatoes that came with my dish were okay, but the green beans were cold. No one checked on us as we ate - we continued to sit there being ignored. I really regret eating here. Wow! What chef Max Robbins has done here is something special! He's taken traditional English Pub food and put a 5 star elegant twist on the favorites while still maintaining the charm of the Pub. Friendly portion sizes mean you won't walk out hungry or unsatisfied. The curried onions made for a great start, as well as the mussels. The cheese board was a little adventurous with some classic English favorites, but it was the pimento that I could have eaten all night. Jeremy behind the bar was a gentleman, fun conversation and a spectacular old fashion. They smoke the glass first so each sip is a win for all three, sight, smell, taste. We were just down to Savannah for the weekend and had walked the river. But on a Friday night it seemed like the restaurants there were catering to the drinking crowd. The pub has three stories, an upstairs terrace, a main floor with a long bar and tables, and the wine cellar downstairs with a small bar and more tables. We were able to be seated immediately on a Saturday night for a two top. We had a Guinness and a glass of the house Cab with our meal, the Cabernet was very smooth and I would order it again. Per our servers recommendations we ordered the fish and chips and the Shrimp and grits, and both were delicious! The fish and chips was a huge lovely filet of cod, with a great crispy batter, served on a generous bed of fries with ketchup and malt vinegar on the side. My fiancé is quite picky about fish and chips and this one got his seal of approval! The shrimp and grits was an instant favorite, the combination of high quality ingredients makes the dish stand out from your typical fair. The grits were piled high with sausage, ham, shrimp, peppers, onions, and mushrooms with a smooth and savory cream sauce. The portion was large, my fiancé had to help me finish it and I'm usually the type to clear my plate. If your not sure what to order I'd recommend this! This is real-deal British (or is it English) style comfort food. Big portions. Everything cooked perfectly. Service on point. My pictures really don't do the food justice, I think my flash washed out the colors on the plate. Nevertheless, the bangers and mash, fish and chips and the meatloaf were all excellent. We have eaten here before, and were just as happy about a year ago when we came last time, which speaks to consistency. The one thing I would change is to put a little less ice in the cocktails. They were mixed well and tasted great, but there wasn't enough content in the glass. On the other hand, they were not very expensive. It all started when my friends and I decided to come to Savannah. We started the morning in ForsythPark, then walked the mile to Churchill's. We stumbled to the restaurant and the hostess got us in by offering the free pretzel appetizer. We stared with the appetizer sample and it was great! Highly suggest the fried tomatoes and sausages. Went with friends to Churchill's in March and sat on the rooftop. The view wasn't as good as we had hoped for but the service and food were excellent! We started with the Black and Tan Onion Rings; shared a dinner salad, a Chicken Pot Pie and the Bourbon Glazes Salmon. We enjoyed everything but the salmon was amazing, from the presentation to the flavors of the salmon and sides that worked really well together. It was a perfect ending to our day exploring Savannah! As I told bae, "there is a Churchill's in every city." Why was I not surprised when I found one in Savannah. Luckily they are not all the same! This place had lots of locals and popping on a Sunday night when the rest of the bars where closed or slow. They offer lots of drinks and beers with great food. We tried the cheese plate that comes with meats, cheeses, crackers, nuts, and a honey comb. It was so good we didn't get to take a picture in time. It also enticed the people to my left and my right to order their own. We all agreed it's worth ordering if you just want to nibble and drink. I also got a flight of beer. The bartender curtly dismissed our request to turn on the Everton-Aston Villa match for my roommate, indicating that they only play college football games on Saturday. That's fine, but I noticed later that Atlanta FC was later on one of the main televisions (and the NHL skills challenge from 6 months ago also found a way to a TV). Shea recognized the situation, got us a table, a TV with the game, and provided an unforgettable experience. Shea was absolutely on point throughout the afternoon. The brunch board is a must have, and the bottomless mimosas do not disappoint. The Hublet put on his big, fancy spontaneous hat and whisked me up to Savannah GA on a Saturday afternoon. Savannah is fantastic: SCAD being there results in a lot of eclectic foot traffic, interesting shops and the obligatory tourist stores. After doing a lot of walking and a decent trolley tour, we decided to grab some dinner before driving back to Jacksonville. On our initial drive into Savannah we'd driven past Churchill's that touted itself as a British Pub, and this jumped out as somewhere to try: being 4k miles from my homeland means that I tend to lean towards British/Irish pubs and restaurants to get a taste of home, and The Hublet enjoys seeing me squeal with delight when I come across a British favourite that's been prepared to perfection. Walking into Churchill's, it definitely has the feel of a British pub with its dark, softly-lit interior. A shiny red moped feels a little touristy and out of place, but otherwise it's a nice venue. We opted for indoor seating as I'd had my fill of sun for one day and the seats were padded and comfortable, which was a blessing after all the ruddy walking and sightseeing I'd been doing. I ordered a River Street Punch and The Hublet requested a Black Velvet, but as they were out of Angry Orchard and were using Strong Bow in its place (less dry, more sweet), and The Hublet doesn't like sweet ciders, he ordered a pint of Old Speckled Hen instead. Old Speckled Hen is a respectable pale ale and was refreshing and welcome after our long day being sun baked. My River Street Punch was everything I like in my cocktails (sweet and cold), however the pineapple juice was the dominant flavour, hiding any trace of coconut run or banana schnapps. We were hungry but not starving, and simply wanted to fuel up before driving back to Jacksonville, so we skipped Starters and went straight to our Entrees. Churchill's offers a pretty decent menu of Small Plates (Baked Brie, Crab Cakes, Shrimp & Grits, Fish Tacos and so on), Sandwiches (Prime Rib, Cheeseburger, Turkey & Avocado and so on), Steaks and Sides (Sweet Potato Fries, Salads, Mashed Potatoes and so on). I ordered Fish & Chips and The Hublet ordered the Chuchill's Indian Curry with a side of Yorkshire Pudding & Gravy as he absolutely loved the ones I made for him. My only menu complaint was that they didn't offer curry sauce to go with the chips. I'm not a ketchup or vinegar fan, preferring instead to dip my carby goodness into mayonnaise or curry sauce. The food was brought out surprisingly quickly and arrived hot and fresh. I have to say that my plate of Fish & Chips was what every portion of cheap newspaper-wrapped fish & chips brought from a Chip Shop wants to look like when it grows up: zucchini & squash slices made me feel less guilty about my fried meal, the tartar sauce was homemade and tangy, the cod was perfectly cooked...I hate the word moist beyond words, but have to say that my fish was moist and firm, and the chips were wonderfully fried without being greasy. The Hublet is a raging hot sauce fiend and cooks all curries accordingly, so although he didn't get the heat he was hoping for from his Chicken Curry, he found it absolutely delicious and refused to ask for Tabasco. He was a little disappointed by his Yorkshire Pudding, which was a bit dry and rubbery. I suspect that was cooked earlier in the day and reheated as they're crispy and fluffy when fresh but tend to get a bit chewy the older they get. He whispered to me that, "He prefers my Yorkshire Puddings a lot more," which is a compliment I shall treasure until I'm old and grey. Our server was attentive, drink and food service was fast, the menu was varied and the food quality was excellent. If you're a Brit wanting a slightly upmarket taste of home then Churchill's is well worth a visit. read more
