10/10 highly recommend!! As soon as my partner and I landed in Portland we picked up the rental and went to grab lunch. One of the locals recommended Chutneys and I'm so glad we listened! We arrived as soon as they opened and were treated very well. I ordered the buttered chicken and alu kulcha. It was creamy with good flavor.

Masala Papad (surprisingly light - really good!)

Went here on a Wednesday afternoon to try some different authentic Indian food and was not disappointed! Terrific food and reasonably priced.

Love the food here. My favorites are the lamb dishes. The sauces are amazing. I always order mild myself. The medium is a nice spicy.

Restaurant and bar are large. They were unfortunately less busy than we would hope... good Indian food can be difficult to come by, especially in a small town. The menu was great - lots of options including vegetarian. We decided to do a 'progressive' dinner that we shared. We ordered a few items off the appetizer menu. They were EXCELLENT! Fortunately that we ordered slowly because the portions are large. We filled up before making it to the entree. It was delightful. They unfortunately do not have a full bar. It is limited to (I believe beer?) and Indian wine. The options are basically red or red. It was fine. Not the best, not the worst... just wish they had a few more options on the bar menu. Give it a try, food and service were ON POINT. Price is extremely fair - support local!

Bread Basket is a great deal to try out the different varieties of naans. The mango lassi was good, the main dishes were awesome, nice flavor and not too spicy like South Indian dishes. It was pretty good quantity that I had left overs. The decor and ambience needs a little touch up but off to a good start.

IDK how a couple places here in the PNW have just bastardized pakora so badly, but this is one of them. This is literally just battered and fried veggies. ZERO flavor, no spice whatsoever. And it had a temperature option on the app and I selected spicy even though i've never had that option before.......this was the most bland pakora I have ever had in my life. Not the worst, but the most flavorless. At least the worst pakora I've ever had, had flavor. To top it off, BOTH of the chutneys were massively offputting. Not just bad, but like...ewww. Can't even top the flavorless dough with whatever liquid this is that is trying to pass as chutney. The chicken korma is actually spicy like i ordered! But again, next to no flavor. Insane. The chicken is nicely cooked but there's so little of it it's embarrassing for the cost of this dish which is unholy. I won't be ordering again.

The mango lassi was perfectly sweet and refreshing, and the butter chicken was rich, flavorful, and seriously delicious. The naan had great flavor, though I wish it had been a bit fluffier. I told him I would wait but he still discouraged me from doing that. I actually wonder if he just didn't know how to make them (I've tried at home! They are difficult!). I love sambar, that comes with most dosas. It's a spicy soup. I ordered idli sambar so I could still have that. He allowed me to order that. Whew! The portion of sambar (see picture) was less than generous. He didn't even fill up the container. It was also not hot (temperature wise). Warm, but not hot. There were only 2 idli, which are steamed "cakes" (dumplings? But not in the filled sense as in some Asian cuisines). They are made from ground rice and urad dal, a white lentil. They are usually made in a steamer stand and are perfectly round, slightly domed disk when they are done. I have one and make them at home sometimes. (I lived in India for awhile). These weren't quite what I was used to but still edible. If you try them (and you should) consider them an appetizer or side, as you don't get much here. The sambar, aside from needing to be served at a hot temp had good flavor and so did the idli. I would like to go back and try for a dosa again (it's a big crispy crepe like pancake with filling inside-traditionally potato & pea, etc). Now you know a little about South Indian food! Looks like they have a few popular curries, like butter chicken, etc. I'll see how those are and let you know later.
