We visited for the first time and, while everyone was very cordial and welcoming, unfortunately the food was quite disappointing. The biryani was bland overall but had an overpowering amount of chilli, with some old/undercooked capsicum and chicken that didn't taste fresh. The usual egg and brinjal curry were also not served. Unfortunately, all of us experienced stomach discomfort that evening. We are conveying our experience on Chutneys Indian Restaurant at the correct address. The signage said they have a lunch buffet daily when we were over at the strip mall to go for some Italian pizza and pasta that a few doors down from Chutneys a couple of days earlier . So we drove over there on a Sunday, for the brunch. No brunch until further notice, they don't when and if they will have it, maybe until they can figure it out. read more

The service was great however, the goat meat biriyani had only two bites of meat. I know goat meat is boney but this was ridiculous. Needle-like shards cut my mouth. Went there for lunch with co-workers and the restaurant was dark and empty, no lights were on. The restaurant windows and restroom were extremely dirty, and it took over 25 minutes to receive our order, and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Additionally, the server said she charged my credit card but it didn't go through, and I never received a notification from my bank notifying me of any attempt, so I'm not sure what happened there! And there would have not been any reason for my card to not have been accepted. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

10/10 highly recommend!! As soon as my partner and I landed in Portland we picked up the rental and went to grab lunch. One of the locals recommended Chutneys and I'm so glad we listened! In Portland for a few days. I haven't had decent Indian food in a long time. This place had good reviews and was relatively close to my hotel. The inside of the restaurant is setup pretty weirdly because there's half a restaurant that's not used for seats for some reason (maybe they're just revamping the inside. I don't know). So there's only a handful of seating which wasn't really a problem when I arrived. But the place wasn't empty so I wonder how it is on a busier day? I saw a ton of to go orders so maybe that's how most people experience this place. I ordered basic spicy tikka masala & samosas. The samosas were fire. I asked the waiter how spicy is spicy, and he was like it's not the real thing. And I can 100% agree--the spiciest level was not spicy at all. So definitely an Americanized version of Indian food. The flavors were fine and the sauce was great. But the samosas were definitely the star of the show for me. The one waiter they had was sort of doing everything in the front of the house from managing to go orders, asking as the host, and waiter. It was a lot for him and there were only 4 tables total including myself. I imagine if they were full full, there would be a lot of wait times in terms of food and refills and the like. If you're in the area, apparently the play is ordering to go. It's not bad but also not the best. Firmly average. read more

Hands down this is the best Indian food I have ever had. My older employer was indian and we often had catered lunch that were from different Indian restaurants but this by far was the best. We got butter chicken, lamb curry, garlic cheese naan and samosa! It was absolutely delicious!!!! Spice level was great, our chai was amazing, and the food came out fast. The service was great but we sent at 1:45 so no one was in there. They were very kind during our visit. The place was quiet and cute. We 100% will be back. read more

I ordered the veggie korma and the vindaloo. The korma was perfectly creamy, had lots of vegetables, and some paneer. The vindaloo was nice and spicy, but wished it had more chicken. We also got the chickpea chip type appetizer with the chutneys and the garlic naan. Big portions. I had enough to save for lunch the next day. Chutneys is one of our favorite Indian restaurants. We started with a mango lassi. Mango lassi is like a mango smoothie, very delicious, and good to temper the heat from the curry. We ordered goat curry and it was delicious. The goat was super tender. The sauce was flavorful and had a medium heat to it, but not overwhelming. The butter chicken was smooth and battery, and the chicken was perfectly tender. And the naan was nice and yummy hot as expected. read more

We ordered lunch for pick up and we were quite disappointed with the flavor and the quality of the naan bread. We live closer to Abhiruchi but we always eat and order at this restaurant. The saag paneer was very bland. No Indian flavor at all like they forgot to add the spices. The naan bread was crumbly. Definitely not fresh. My friend that loves this place said the same thing especially with the saag paneer. We may or may not try this place again. read more

I'm going back. Again and again. Love me some good Indian food and love me a clean, sunny place to eat with a smiling and happy server almost as much. I went for lunch on a tuesday...I nearly had the place to myself. I had the chicken Korma, garlic naan, papadum and a diet coke. $30. Even though it was the unnatural color of a certain orange White House clown, the Korma was delicious. I thought it was a small portion, but I couldn't finish it..and I'm 6'-5" 230 lbs. The almost bad: It wasn't perfect. The papadum was tasty and a bit stale and the naan was not the fluffiest I've had...but still tasty with lots of garlic. I was still very happy with both. Finally... decent Indian food in the 'Couve! Is it the best I've had? No, but for the area it is the best around and cured my craving for curry. The butter chicken I had was a little too creamy for me, but the flavors were there and there was a lot of chicken, probably enough to split with someone with some appetizers! My husbands chicken korma was really tasty, I'll probably be getting that next time. A little on the pricy side but I'm willing to pay the higher price tag to finally have a go-to Indian food spot in the area. Horrible horrible horrible!!! I called in a order and they said 20 minutes. I arrive to the restaurant 25 minutes later and the lady goes it'll be about 25 minutes. I said, "ok no problem" then 30 minutes go by and she goes we don't have any naan or onion kulcha. As I continue to wait there are people coming in and ordering to go and also dining in. How do they get to get there food before me? They prioritize dining in before to go I guess, but I don't understand because someone walked in after I been waiting 30 mins and orders food and gets there food before me. How?! The person probably waited 10 minutes and she goes sorry for the wait to them. After about an hour and 15 minutes of waiting she places a bag on the counter and goes here's your food. No sorry no nothing!! I was not rude I patiently stood there and waited! And to top it off she told me there's no naan left but the person who came to dine in orders naan and gets it. Really impressed by how good Chutney's is! We just moved to the area from Portland and were craving Indian, drove by, read the Yelp reviews and decided to go for dinner tonight. Excellent choice: we had chicken tandoori which was delicious, lightly spiced and served on a large sizzling plate. Fluffy Garlic naan, vegetable pakoras, and lamb vindaloo, "spicy please" and it was delicious. Location is not fancy, but comfy; lots of regulars seemed to be there, service was very friendly (she even asked if I would "like some tamarind sauce to take home?", as I was eating it directly out of the little ramekin). Busted! Portland ain't got nothing on this place. read more
