Finally! Great Indian food on the far eastside. Their menu is large and varied, and perfect for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Tonight we got the Breadbasket of Naan to share. You have to try the cheese filled Naan if you get a chance. The Veggie Pakoras were tasty and hearty. My favorites have been the Aalu Gobhi Masala and the Matar Masala with Potatoes. Everyone loved the hot Chai Tea, the Mango Lassi and the curry flavored rice. Its a medium sized restaurant with nice furnishings. The music videos were lively, but just a tad too loud. But the nicest part of the dinner was the man who took care of us. I say it that way because he went above and beyond what is expected by a server. I wonder if he was one of the owners? I stopped by for lunch with a friend today. I love Indian food, and am thankful to have another option here in Gresham. This is the location where ViThai previously was. The restaurant has plenty of natural light, and is well-decorated. They have comfortable (but not fancy) tables and chairs. The service was good -- they were friendly, and got us what we needed. I had the Thali ("Platter") Vegetarian lunch special. It is basically naan, and a tin plate with several types of curry, dal, yogurt, etc. I like the presentation, and the variety was nice. I think the price was like $16, which seemed reasonable considering the size and variety. I might ask if they could substitute the plain naan for something with garlic or a bit more flavor. My hesitation with going to 4 or 5 stars is that the food quality was so-so relative to what I've had elsewhere in Portland. Rice was a smidge dry, and I thought the flavors of the curry weren't hitting all of the notes. Regardless, it was good enough I'd likely go again, and I wish them well (sit-down Indian is something we need more of here in East County!). read more

I was devastated when Vi Thai closed, but was very excited to see an Indian restaurant move in, especially since I had some of the best Indian food I have ever had in McMinnville recently. We ordered the lunch specials, Makhni chicken and samosas. It was just "ok". Felt everything was really lacking depth of flavor, like they were "phoning it in", and were not treating all those amazing spices with the care and attention they deserve. She asked me if I wanted it spicy, I said yeah, come to find out all they did was chop up pieces of a pepper. Just a base dish with added pepper slices. I didn't like it, you get a mouthful of the mild base, then in the next bite you get a whole pepper slice. The rice, the rice was just steamed plain white nice so nothing special. The food was delicious this is the second time we have eaten food here, but the first time dinning in. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Unfortunately because I am well acquainted with Indian food worldwide I am critical. I think if they focussed on a smaller menu they could then refine their preparation of what could otherwise be a successful venture. I hope more people stop in here. I came by around 2 in the afternoon after a meeting. Since I'm from Tigard, I don't get to east Portland much. I read about Naan and Curry on Yelp, so I though I'd give it a try. I have to say this was up there with the best Indian food I've ever had. The chicken tikka kebab had just the right amount of heat and spice. Mixed with peppers and onion it was a delicious and filling meal. I'm used to a lot of places using powdered spice mixes, but what was clear to me as I ate my dish was that this was done with real spices. In addition, the garlic naan actually tastes like garlic without going overboard. and there's lots of options that made the menu feel actually Indian rather than just following an Indian restaurant formula. It's a great experience for the price. While they don't give as much rice as I would like for how much you get of the main dish, that's not enough for me to knock it, since the rice is still very good and traditionally done. My nail salon is just next to Nann n Curry. It just opened 3 weeks ago. I had no idea! I was so excited to see Indian cuisine so close to my home! The gentlemen that I met were very welcoming, and kind. They helped me navigate their menu, and helped me order exactly what I wanted. Not only was the service quick, the food was phenomenal! I ordered the most simple of things that I loved as a child, chicken curry with rice, and butter Nann. I got it to go, as I wasn't planning on stopping to get food in the first place until I saw their sign. It was packed very neatly, and the portions were generous. Everything was hot, and comforting.
