Hubby was out with friends and I told him to bring me something. I wanted to try the chile releno and enchilada since past customers raved about them. It looks really good on a plate but it looks a little sad in a carry out. The sauce of the enchilada was hard and stuck in the container. This food is best served and eaten in the restaurant. It came with chips and salsa. The chips was thin and crunchy and was very good. The sauce had too much lime but tasted better the following day. It also had a little kick. The enchilada had a lot of chicken and was good. Paired well with the white sauce (avocado). It just looks really tiny. The releno was soggy but that is expected when it's in a carry out. I went on opening day. I ate at the bar, and they were attentive. I had a margarita, Chuy's classic, I think, which was very sweet (rocks/salt). I ended up ordering the fajita tacos. I also ordered a side of the "New Mexico" Hatch green chile sauce, because the bartender said it came on one of the burritos, and was really spicy... exciting, since I went in wearing my NM tee shirt, but bartender did not notice :(.. Anyway, the food came out hot and quickly, but upon eating my first taco, i had to pick out onions... it was filled to the brim. Also, the flour tortilla fell apart, which is odd. When I ate my second taco, I knew why there were so many onions on the first, none in that one. Kicker, on the bad side, was that the green chile sauce had absolutely no heat.. The best thing, to end on a good note, was the salsa and chips served with the meal. very fresca and nice spice to it. Maybe in a couple weeks they will be more ready for a re-try. read more

I've been craving queso for weeks now and couldn't find an authentic (not chain) restaurant to get some. I decided to give Chuys a try and I'm honestly mad I didn't stop by sooner. I sat in the rather large outdoor patio. My server immediately brought over chips and salsa - you could tell both were made fresh in house. I ordered the house margarita, not bad - I'd probably add a floater next time. I also got the queso of course, it was decent, I'd probably skip that next time. For my entree I tried the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas. They had a nice kick to them and overall well rounded flavor. The rice and beans were really good too! Have been here a couple times. Both times were good experiences. I saw the neutral reviews on Yelp and came into this Tex-Mex restaurant with virtually no expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The first time, we arrived at a decent hour, around 5pm on a weekend, there was no wait so we got seated immediately. The second time was during lunch on a weekend. They were a little busier, so wait time took about 10 minutes to get a table. On certain evenings during happy hour they have an open complimentary self-service buffet of seasoned taco beef, queso cheese dip, salsa and chips. Both times we ordered their Appetizer Plate which offers chile con queso, nachos, deluxe quesadillas, chicken flautas, guacamole & sour cream, which proved to be enough for two people to share. It was our first time at Chuy's. We arrived on Monday, Labor Day. It was quite crowded when we arrived. The manager was apologizing that he wasn't expecting a crowd because of the holiday. I don't think he had the wait staff to handle it because there were tons of empty tables. We decided to wait (they said 40 min). We took the beeper and were pleasantly surprised when it went off after only 10 min. I think several large parties decided to go elsewhere because they could not facilitate them. We were a party of 3 and seated right near the front door dining area. Our server was helpful. We started with margaritas. They were very good. Just regular house margaritas on the rocks. I had the crunchy tacos with ground sirloin, rice and charro beans. They forgot the beans and our waiter was quick to go and get them. The tacos were loaded with fresh ingredients. Very good !! Oh !!! I forgot about the chips and salsa. The salsa was SUPERB !!!! Very spicy. The chips were thin and crispy. Also very good. It was too much food to finish. 3 tacos was a lot. We will be back. Their interior is bright, airy and breezy. The decorations are fun and I loved the tables made of formica and vinyl chairs both with metal legs. The entire ceiling covered with hubcaps and the walls adorned with the names of vehicles all made of metal from the 50's - early 70's was an unusual twist. The chips were nice and warm, but the salsa was like fire. I think ordering queso with it next time will be necessary to ease the heat. I had the Stacked Enchiladas which are homemade blue corn tortillas stacked with freshly-roasted, hand-pulled chicken, cheese. I substituted the Tomatillo sauce for the Tex Mex, which was just so-so. It was topped with sour cream. The chicken was moist, but honestly the dish didn't have as much flavor as I thought it would. Also the tortillas being stacked wasn't really to my liking. They were limp and not as much blue corn flavor as I thought they'd have. The waitress we had was friendly, but somewhat detached, like she had somewhere else to be. We came as the lunch rush was dying down so not sure what was up cos we are friendly as can be and were excited to try out this new joint. A good solid Tex-Mex restaurant, food can be as mild as you want, or turn the heat up to met your taste. If you like to split a meal this is the place to do it, my spouse and I usually split the entree. Enough food on the plate for two. Quest and chips are way to good, I always eat way more the the 12 chips I try to stay at. If you are a vegetarian they have a couple of excellent options. By far, the worst Mexican-ish restaurant I've ever visited. This place has existed near my house for several years and I never felt the need to visit Chuy's because there are some really great Mexican restaurants around. It was the 1st Jan and surprisingly my favorite Mexican restaurant nearby was closed. I made my first and last visit to any Chuy's. The menu has been skinned down due to "Covid" (huh?) and has limited choices. The chips served were disgustingly bland, tasteless and I'm confident that salsa cannot be worse than what's served here. We were a party of 7 and every single person including kids quit their meal after a few bites. How on earth can a cheese quesadilla be so bad that a kid rejects it! Never going to any Chuy's and if I'm dying of hunger, I'm better off getting a Jerky from a gas station and drinking a 5 hour energy shot; that'll be far better than the food served here. read more

If you've never been to Mexico and/or have never eaten traditional Mexican food, you'll enjoy the Chuy's "tex-mex" experience tremendously! The service was top notch. The dining room was quite clean and the kitchen (viewing it from a distance) also appeared to be well maintained. All of the staff moved briskly and efficiently like a well oiled machine. Everyone was extremely polite and helpful. Thank you "Chuy's staff!" Chuy's attempts to capture some of the eclectic decor of traditional mexican restaurants with a vibrant scheme of colorful plastic chairs and wall patterns along with posting pictures of random Mexican citizens all over the establishment. Who were these people? Authenticity ends there. The food was extremely fresh and all of the dishes arrived together (always important) very hot. Before taking a bite of my meal, I was leaning towards giving them 5 stars. The Ranch dressing for the chips was exotic...but then the meal seemed to lose focus. The dishes looked like Mexican food, but tasted like something someone made after looking at recipes online but was missing some key ingredients (Mexican oregano, cumin, chiles, etc.)...so they improvised. Adding one little jalepeno along the side of the dish doesn't give the whole meal "zest." :) The food was way too bland. I'm guessing that maybe this was done on purpose?!! In America it's common to borrow from another country's culture and water down the experience to make it palatable to American taste. That definitely was not the exception here. I noticed that there were very few actual Mexican people working (or eating) in the establishment. It makes sense because they'd probably complain about the taste....and the corporate Chuy's food theme probably wouldn't work. To summarize my dining experience, if you're a big fan of Taco Bell, you'll fall head over heels in love with Chuy's! I have had Mexican and Tex Mex all over Houston, Austin and San Antonio, and this place just does not live up to the expectation of "Fine Tex Mex." We live nearby and stoped in for a quick dinner tonight, we were seated immediately on a Monday night. The hostess wore a mask but no other staff had a mask on. The menu is pretty small compared to a lot of typical Mexican type restaurants. We ordered a queso, the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas, and the custom enchiladas (one chicken and one ground beef). The chips were thing and crisp and the queso decent with a generous portion. The enchiladas were ok and came out quickly, a sad amount of lettuce and three chunks of tomato accompanied some bland beans and rice on the plate. The sauce was really the selling point to be honest, with a creamy texture and nice bit of spice. It was fast, the service was good, and the food was ok but a bit overpriced in my opinion for what I got. 10 of us dined at Chuy's on a Wednesday night for ladies night out! I arrived to request a table for 10 at 6:15 and the table was ready by 6:35, not bad at all for a busy night. Our server, Drew was awesome, the minute we were seated, he was there taking drink orders. Drew was definitely timely bringing more chips and our favorite jalapeño ranch dip, along with salsa. Every time we were close to empty, he would come with refills. Everyone ordered and our food came out in a timely manner for the most part. One of my friends didn't get her food until well after everyone else because the kitchen forgot to cook it, but once they realized it, they prioritized it and offered her a free dessert as compensation. Some coworkers had a team lunch here last week so I decided to check out what the hype was all about. I came around 11:30AM and got seated immediately. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the themed artwork. The vibrant colors just pop out at you and you really feel like you're somewhere else and not in Cary anymore. Soon after I sat down, a waitress came by and brought me my complementary chips and salsa. The chips were a lot thinner than I was used to. They were seasoned well and had good flavor. Warning: the Salsa Fresca is definitely spicy. It's the Serrano peppers. My server came by later with a white sauce of some sort which I used to dip with every other chip to alleviate some of that intense heat. I ordered the Baja Tacos with grilled shrimp, which was amazing. The grilled shrimp was cooked to perfection and was seasoned well. The red cabbage added a nice crunch to it. The hand made tortillas were fresh and absorbed the juices and flavor of the shrimp. The rice and beans were also good but the highlight has to be the Baja Tacos. I'll definitely have to stop by for dinner sometime in the future since a dinner service especially with a big crowd is a true test to any restaurant. read more

I got the grilled chicken salad and the hubbs got a steak burrito. Both of us really enjoyed our meal and i coukdnt be happier the chicken on my salad was actually hot! We had a terrible, no good, very bad day and we came to Chuy's. Robin took such good care of us, and made our little girl feel special, and she just took all our blues away. The fajitas were unstoppable. My husband's tacos were delectable. My kid's quesadilla was perfect and her fries on the side were some of the best I've had lately. They were rocking the 90s tunes and we had a mini dance party and Robin got in on the fun. She's pretty much our best friend now. The host made our kid a bright pink balloon animal on the way out. Went here for the first time a few weeks ago with my husband. We've been waiting for them to open and wanted to finally check this place out. The place is casual, fun and I think it's cool you can see them making the tortillas. The chips are light, salty, and addicting (reminds me of Chipotle's chips) and I liked the salsa. I'm a vegetarian, and I've found that most places put chicken stock/powder in their rice and beans, but both types of beans and the rice were vegetarian here. I chose the more spicy option and they accidentally gave me both (I liked the spicier beans), but they were both great. The waitress was friendly and very attentive. Our food was taking a while, and without even having to say anything she told us sorry and that the back was having a problem. She continued to check on us while we waited, and eventually Steve (manager) even stopped by to tell us that they are sorry and it should be out soon. Once we got our food, he continued to check on us. Both our waitress and Steve helped make our experience a great one even though we had to wait on our food. I got the vegetarian combo which came with a cheese chile relleno with ranchero sauce & veggie enchilada, rolled in a homemade blue corn tortilla and topped with ranchero sauce. Unfortunately, I found out after the fact that the rellano is battered and fried in the same oil as meat. However, Steve told me I could ask for it to be grilled the next time to keep it truly vegetarian (will also make it healthier :p ). Both my husband and I enjoyed eating there and plan to go back.
