Now THIS is Tex-Mex! If you are visiting from out of town or taking people from out of town that want authentic Tex-Mex, this is the place. First off, just plain, cheezy, greazy food. Lots of gooey cheddar cheese and real live chili con carne. None of that mole nonsense or that white crumbly cheese. For starters, have chips and creamy jalapeño instead of the salsa. The chips are thin, crispy, and fresh. If you want an appetizer, get the queso compuesto - which is queso with taco meat, guac, and pico. For a main meal, get a combo plate (I always get the Elvis Presley). A great mix of different items so you get a good sampling of everything. I haven't been to Chuy's since 2010. It was my college go-to for Tex-Mex. I would go twice a week throughout college, no joke. After running an errand, I stopped by. They offered a limited 1-page paper menu, due to Covid. I ordered the Boom Boom enchiladas and Tres Leches cake. -Boom Boom enchiladas: They ran out of tortillas, so I ordered just the sauce. The sauce is just as I remembered. Amazing. -Tres Leches cake: Awful. I forgot that I didn't like it in the past, but the waiter said it was "great." It was a big square of yellow cake, barely soaked in milk, surrounded by frosting thinned out with milk, then topped with super thin sliced unripe strawberries. Caramel is zig-zagged across. Really disappointed in our visit to Chuy's. I have been waiting and waiting for them to open back up and it was one of my favorite restaurants to go to! I had terrible service this time around. I do applaud the fact they were very clean and did limit restaurant capacity. Then the customers started to come in... Probably sat down around 6:30 pm and received our chips, dips, and first round of drinks. Service started to become slower and slower as the restaurant filled up and it looked like our server was taking care of 5+ tables all at once. It took an hour to get our food and the quality just wasn't there. Our food was cold or at least looked like it had been sitting a while because the shredded cheese melted into a clump on my plate. The fajita beef was tough and hard to eat. I was so sad! Not to mention, it was absolutely freezing inside the restaurant. I had to put my arms inside of my shirt. Our first time for my husband and me. My daughter has been there numerous times, she convinced us to go there since we are regulars at Pappasitos and Guadalajara's. I order a strawberry margarita and my daughter attempted to get a margarita mind you not she's been there and NEVER did they ask for her ID. We love the food here! Management has become awful. The water had a sewer line after taste. We plead with the manager to bring us something feasible to drink. She made it a point to be a dick about it. They don't even have bottled water for purchase! We left with our food in boxes to eat at home where we have water that does not taste so awful! The manager said "If I could go down the street and buy you something I would." The manager did not even offer to get us anything else, making the last statement meaningless. The manager asked us if we would like something else, I told her, "Why don't you bring us a couple of beers then?" I was actually going to buy myself a beer, but only after I got some water, because she made it apparent that it was going to "cost money!", and since the money was such a big deal to her, I decided this establishment is not worthy of another cent from my pocket! For people who don't drink tap water, when the city water taste is very strong it makes us gag. I decided to go in and check on status and was abruptly told by hostess that it wasn't ready. She had this look of confusion, like why did I come in. after another 15 min I finally got my salad. My family really likes eating here and recommended that I try it. For dinner a few nights ago, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered quesadillas with beef. The beef was burnt and it didn't taste good. It was crunchy and I couldn't taste the cheese. I was pretty disappointed because my family raved about this restaurant so much and I wasn't impressed. I guess I'll have to try another dish next time. I grabbed the food to go and I did like that experience. You can park and call the restaurant for them to bring your food to you. What I do like about this restaurant are the chips. They taste good and fresh. You can have them for a few days and they still taste just as good! I hope when I go here again I'll have a better experience but you can't go wrong with the chips. read more

If Texmex food means go and buy the cheapest tortillas to make my enchiladas. Then congrats y'all mastered it . Honestly feels like y'all are in the back of the kitchen saving the card board boxes to make the tortillas for the enchiladas . We were really excited to try Tex Mex for the first time and Chuy's did not disappoint. The prices were great and so was the restaurant decor. Each section had a theme of its own but the restaurant had an overall retro vibe. The waitress was very attentive and offered menu suggestions. We started with Queso, Salsa, and Chips. The salsa was fresh and had a nice kick to it. The queso was good but not the best I've had. My boyfriend ordered the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and he thought it was really good. The Boom Boom sauce was definitely the star of the meal. I ordered Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken. The waitress suggested I add a fried egg and avocado. I would definitely recommend ordering it with the avocado as well. Definitely will be stopping by during our next visit to Houston! read more

Super disappointed. I go to Chuy's all the time (not this location) but tonight tells me that I'll definitely not be back to Bunker Hill. I did a mobile order (never been a problem before). I waited in my car for 30 minutes only for the waitress to come out and tell me that they don't have the item I ordered. First of all, why did it take 30 minutes for you to realize that you don't have salad? Salad. Secondly, the girl didn't even know what my order was because she started talking about rice (which I didn't order), so did they really not have what I ordered or were they all confused? I then asked to speak with a manager and I was told, "he's too busy and won't come out to talk to you." I understand they might be understaffed (they definitely weren't that busy for a Tuesday), but at least telling him that I'd like to speak to him would have gone a long way, but instead, I got shut down. I ask how long it will take to get my money refunded and was told that she would have to go ask the manager! The same person who didn't have two seconds to speak with me has time to answer this question all while I wait longer?!?! What a joke and what a disappointing experience. Took 15-20 minutes before a waiter came to us for drink orders after being seated. 15-20 more minutes to get our drinks. Another 10 minutes to take our order. Then finally 30-35 minutes to get our food. Icing on the cake was they messed up my girlfriend's simple taco order and waited another 10 minutes to get her replacement food. Not counting our waiter was no where to be found. We had to fetch for our waiter few times to correct the mistakes. DON'T. COME. HERE. Unless you love waiting and messed up food orders. read more

I have been to almost all the Chuy's in Houston and NEVER had bad service! This Chuy's was horrible. My husband and I both have worked in restaurants and couldn't believe the quality of service provided here (he even worked for the 290/1960 location) first off they triple sat our waiter, we had to ask for a drink, we had to ask to order then after 24 min of still NO WATER I decided to get up and ask for the manager. I told her the issue and all she said was "I'll help him".. she was already "helping" all the other waiters and waitresses. The staff (including the manager) need to be re-trained on basic service. I will never step foot in this location again and will NEVER recommend to anyone. I rather drive to Cypress to enjoy Chuy's that has great service! read more

Granted we walked in 5 mins before they were closing, but everyone's attitude from the hostess who tried to get us to order Togo food to the bartender who acted like we shot his dog to the manager who never brought the waters we asked for. The manager walked out to the bar where we were sitting and in a overly loud tone spoke to the bartender 'I know you're supposed to be going home right now but...' That is unacceptable if you are at Burger King let along a sit down restaurant. We were walking out the door by 9:20 and both resolved to never go back. Not a hard decision after trying to eat quesadillas which seemed like they were made with half the amount of cheese one would expect and a tasteless enchilada. If you don't want people to walk in at 8:55 and spend their money at your establishment close your place at 8:30 and save your sour attitudes for after you leave your job. Houston has too many options to waste my money being treated like that and eating tasteless food. On a side note, the raspberry Rita was delicious. Bon Voyage Chuy's The $1.95 fajita soft taco from Taco Cabana that I got after I left had three times as much chicken as the Chuys food and the girl working the togo window was so pleasant we gave her a tip which she tried not to accept.
