I originally was introduced to Los Tios through their Sugar Land location. They were a solid staple there for all of one's Texmex needs. This one is interesting. There's two sections. The first section is kinda like a bar section if you want to catch a sports game or something. The other section is more of traditional dining room. There's some pretty decent lunch specials here if you're in the area. The highlight of this place is the puffy queso and the complimentary chips. The puffy queso is a perfect lil chips and queso bite, and the complimentary chips are thin with that perfect crunch. They are very addicting. On my last visit, the taco bowl I ordered was perfectly yummy with nice fresh lettuce. Definitely a trusted staple for Texmex in Houston. read more

When I first went and ordered the carne asada, the server didn't ask how I liked for it be cooked. It came out in a sizzling plate and made it even more dry (as pictured). It was fine, but I didn't like it... Last week, this would've been a 3-star review from me. However, I went again this week, and mentioned to the server that I would like it cooked medium rare. I went for happy hour. Unfortunately, the only food item for happy hour is a queso puff. I had the margarita on the rocks for $6. For dinner I ordered spinach enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. They do have vegetarian black beans. The waiter offered grilled veggies instead of the rice because the rice is prepared with chicken stock. The problem arose when I got the bill. He didn't mention I'd be charged $1.50 extra for grilled veggies. I mentioned it to him. He said he could give me $2 back. I said it's ok but didn't tip him for the veggies. 10/23/2025: I am always surprised at the consistency of LT across all locations. My home location is the Kirkwood restaurant, but I frequent the Westheimer location from time to time. The decor in the San Felipe location is the prettiest, but I digress. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last night. They have regular table with chairs seating, booth seating, and bar area seating. The service is always spot on and I love that the waitstaff wears the traditional Latin America guayabera shirts. It sets a tone and feels more authentic. THE STAPLES (i.e. meal #1): We all know Texans base a good Mexican restaurant on the chips, salsa, and margs to start. Anything good after that is just a bones. I love their chips. Thin and crispy, with a small tiny bit of visible grease that adheres the salsa and salt perfectly to the chip. They are always hot when they arrive to the table. I love their salsa. They serve both red (cold) and the creamy green (also cold). I have many times turned down an invite to a Mexican restaurant just based on the chip/salsa quality and options. Many times my response will be, "let do LT instead... they have that good salsa and green sauce". The margs are unbeatable. Always a buzzy feel even if you get the house marg. Right out of the gate, you are off to a great start with those 3 items in check. If you are not a Texan and you are scratching your head reading this, trust us. We are closest to the border and we know our stuff! Don't ever try a Florida Mexican restaurant if you are new to Mexican. You will not understand the love. Sorry, Florida. I love you as my home away from home, but the Mexican food needs some serious help. Y'all stick with the seafood. (although, we know how to do seafood in South Texas too!) THE NEXT PHASE (i.e. meal #2): I usually have my main items I order every time. Either the tacos al carbon (beef) or the cheese enchiladas. This time, I decided to order the beef quesadillas. I added a side of rice since I love LTs' rice. The quesadillas were terrific. They were cut in small pizza shaped wedges all nicely lined up on the plate for a nice presentation. They come with sour cream, guac, and diced tomatoes. I was only able to eat half, so I ended up with leftovers, which is always a win. SERVICE: Always friendly and fast service. I think our meal was out in under 10 minutes for our table of 4. Our drinks were never empty and our waiter consistently bused our table well. I highly recommend LT. El Tiempo and Los Tios charge for to go containers and xtra tortillas. Pappas just raised prices a bit and cover these things. Pappas service and experience is more valuable and I'll pay for it. We celebrated my dad's 100th Birthday at Los Tios and everything was Awesome! Nicole helped us with the arrangements and Mr Santos and Fidencio waited our group of 34 and it was a memorable evening. We have been going there since it opened in the 70's and the food is always great and everyone is friendly. It's original Houston Tex Mex that others just can't match. I love Los Tios! Margaritas are always on point! My favorite thing is the truly puffy queso puff. No one else in town has a legit puffy queso puff. Other places just turn a small taco shell upside down and pour queso on it. Service is excellent as is the atmosphere! read more

I have been a loyal customer of Los Tios for over two years and have consistently had positive experiences at other locations, which makes this review especially disappointing. Over the years, I have visited Los Tios with friends, family, and my significant other, and it has always been a restaurant I have enjoyed returning to. Because of those positive experiences, I decided to try a different Los Tios location for the first time. Unfortunately, my experience at this location was completely different from anything I have encountered before. My server, David, provided one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Throughout my time there, he came across as condescending, dismissive, and unprofessional. Communication was poor, and rather than making me feel welcomed as a customer, he seemed more interested in rushing me through my visit and out the door. What was most frustrating was his attitude. I felt belittled and spoken down to on multiple occasions, despite simply trying to enjoy my visit. Good service is built on hospitality, communication, and respect, and unfortunately none of those qualities were demonstrated during this experience. I want to be clear that this review is not a reflection of Los Tios as a whole. My experiences at other Los Tios locations over the past two years have been consistently positive, which is why this visit was so surprising. However, as a first-time guest at this location, David made me feel genuinely unwelcome. The way I was treated left such a negative impression that it has caused me to reconsider visiting this location again and has unfortunately affected my perception of Los Tios overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. One negative interaction should not outweigh years of positive experiences, but every customer deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and valued. We found this place by accident while visiting Huston for work and now it will be a staple every time we come to town! The staff is so friendly and the food is incredible! It's taken me awhile to talk about this. I'm still in shock. My poor friend has completely written off the whole Los Tios/Adair group of restaurants. What we experienced should never happen. There are no excuses. We went to the Westheimer location for a Sunday brunch. This was about a month ago. In the past, the Sunday brunch service has been horrible. We decided to give them another chance. Our server was excellent (I don't remember his name). I ordered some breakfast tacos. Tortillas were excellent. Salsa ok. Fajita steak was burnt. Bacon was really thin and undercooked. I don't trust them to do chorizo or barbacoa properly, so I stick to the basics. My friend found a burnt roach in the middle of her scrambled eggs. The server and manager responded correctly, apologizing for this disgusting catastrophe and comped the meal. The manager on duty said he was from another location filling in for a manager who was off. Whoever the chef and cooks are - they are terrible. Obviously there is no quality control. That is poor management. I've said for years that they have the best margaritas and tacos. They've always had a roach problem. Now that I've seen a roach in the food, I will never go back. Ever since Chuy's closed down the street Los Tios has been my local go to affordable Tex-Mex spot. I've been a few times prior but now more than before. I like to get the enchiladas el carbon (with fajita steak meat). Their happy hour goes til 7pm and they have $5 house margaritas (lime, on the rocks or frozen) which is a great deal. This location is huge and spacious and also has a private room in the back for reservations. The waitstaff is friendly and they're always fully staffed with is harder to find nowadays in the restaurant business. Their parking lot is shared with the shopping strip and looks big but the rows are very narrow and also diagonal so I recommend parking farther away to be safer. read more

I hate to be ignored, especially I'm the customer. I came to Los Tios Restaurant on Westheimer for a meeting during a weekday. I arrived at the lobby searching for my group. There were 2 entrances from the parking lot and 2 more entrances to the dining halls. I can't say if they were connected. I saw waiters walking across from one hall to another rapidly. I didn't get a chance to open my mouth and they were gone. I can vaguely see men and women written on 2 separate doors separated by a stand. This lobby is so creepily dark. Okay guys. Am I invisible or you don't see an Asian man standing there? I had to ask my friend to come to get me from the misery. The meeting room had a TV on the wall and setting for buffet line. Wait staff took the order without a smile. But I was there to present at the meeting. I didn't know my food arrived. Chips and salsa were fresh. But there was no spoon. So, I had to use a chip to scoop salsa for my tasteless fish tacos. The fish strips were over cooked and tasted fishy (not fresh). I prayed to Los Díos - I don't want to get sick eating here. The ambience is really wonderful because you can pick from the bar or from the dining room. It's a little bit more quiet, depending on your mood, the service was Beyond amazing and friendly. I can't say enough good things about Los Tios, Great Wait Staff, all friendly and helpful, I usually eat at a table on the bar side. The food is very, very good and authentic TexMex. The Tomatillo and Red Salsa with hot fresh tortilla chips reminds me of the old days of Mama Ninfa's. Also, when you walk in the door have a larger dining area to the right, and could easily accomodate large parties. I've mentioned this to the new company I am working for on Richmond, that they should think about going there for sales meetings, and etc. If you go at night the bar is always packed, but several tables are still available, and the dining area always has plenty of seathing with large tables to accomodate everyone. My family has been eating at this Los Tios location since it opened (I think that was 1978?) My grandparents and my parents always loved this one server, Santos, and would return time after time and insist on being seated at his table. Santos still works there! My bonus dad just passed away and it made complete sense to hold his Celebration of Life at his favorite Houston restaurant even though we live three hours away now. From the moment I called, EVERYTHING was perfect. Serafin and Erika, the managers, treated me like their own family. They were kind when I called at peak hours to answer my questions. Erika decorated the bar so beautifully and festively in a Mexican theme, set up a projector screen, and provided a speaker and microphone. Serafin called me in advance a few times to assure the details and that everything was being taken care of. When I was trying to understand what the space would look like and drove three hours down to check it out, Serafin was there to welcome me and treat me to lunch. The food was excellent! The service was incredible! We paid for the food (fajita buffet and appetizers), an open bar, and the tip, but it seemed like there was so much more included. Both managers stayed for the gathering to run things and our favorite server, Santos, was there. I made sure that his nametag said, "Friend" next to his name. I feel like Erika and Serafin are friends now, too. I can't say enough about how impressed and grateful I am to Serafin, Erika, Santos and the whole crew who served our group of 75 in ninja style, gliding in to help, and blending in when not needed directly. We enjoy bar dining, usually. Our recent visits have not been enjoyable because of large tables with numerous LOUD and uncontrolled children. I had a disappointing experience here. I ordered happy hour drinks with a floater but was charged $19, while my male colleague paid only $8 for the same drink. Waiter explained it cost $4 extra for the bartender to make the drink which I was not told about. Still should not have come up to $19. After pointing it out, the bill was adjusted, but the 20% gratuity was miscalculated, and tax remained the same despite the price change. Then, in front of my male colleagues, the waiter threw $2 on the table--whether as an apology or a way to embarrass me, it felt like he was making it seem like I was just a woman causing drama. In the end, I still paid more than my colleague. Check your bill carefully if you dine here. read more

The serving sizes for the price is not worth the quality of food you get. $4.95 for two scoops of guacamole? The tostado poblano had a mayonnaise sauce on it which was really gross.
