My family and I showed up to celebrate a nephews graduation. We arrived 35 minutes before closing and had a table for 20. The staff was extremely patient and attentive to us. Average Mexican food for a decent price. The service varies greatly by location (my waitress was pretty apathetic tonight, but I've also had great service at a different restaurant). Great chips and tons of sauces, but their queso is nothing to brag about. On another occasion, I've had a great chimichanga, and I always love their margaritas (great Happy Hour!). We just came back there tonight, I was not really that impressed with menu. Just basic tex-mex dishes. We order the fajitas for two which were pretty good. The service could use some improvement. Came to Houston for work, so expectations for good Mexican was high. Sadly, lots of locations according to Yelp, but short on high ratings. Food here not much better than what I could get in PA. Ordered the Wednesday special: chicken enchiladas with avocado cilantro sauce. The avocados were not in the sauce as implied but only about 2 tsp on the top as a garnish. The cilantro sauce was almost too spicy to enjoy (as a special anyway). Side of beans were mediocre and I asked for a side salad as I'm not a fan of Spanish rice, which was limited but expected as it wasn't on the menu. I'm ok with that. Service was very good. It was very busy and slightly loud. I'd try another place next time I'm here suggested by a local. If your not all that picky, you may like it. read more

My friend and I were wanting drinks on a patio on this side of town, and chuy's happy hour was the only place I could think of. My previous visit to this location left a bad taste in my mouth, but they did redeem themselves. The service was much, and the free queso for happy was good. I ordered the steak burrito with boom boom sauce again, AND I actually got what I ordered! Overall much better, but they could still improve on their food. read more

Went there on Saturday night with the family to unwind after a tough week of hard work and a lot of stress.ordered mixed steak and chicken and couple of drinks ...five minutes later , food shows up so unbelievably fast...shrimp and steak heated and not cooked well..drinks shows up five minutes after that , only to be followed by the server asking if we needed anything else before bringing the bill or check...I felt like a family of animals...They fed us in five minutes with uncooked food, only to move to next poor customer that will not enjoy his or her hard work by having a nice peaceful unwinding hour with the family. For quick and good tex-mex Chuy's is one of my favorites. Staff is always very nice, accommodating and service is super fast. Love the margaritas, chips, salsa (green and red) and my favorite plate is the Elvis Presley Memorial combo. My daughter likes the stacked enchiladas and my wife likes just about everything here. After a long day of shopping at the Cypress Outlets, my boyfriend and I went to Chuy's off of the North Freeway. We only had to wait about 5 minutes before getting seated. Once at the table, our waiter immediately brought out some salsa fresca and creamy jalapeño sauce, along with chips and waters. At that point, I was sure it would be a good dining experience. But after we ordered our meals, the waiter just forgot about us, never refilling our waters or sauces. At one point, I asked for more of everything and all he brought was the creamy jalapeño refill (which is amazing, but still...). When our food came out, it was brought by another server so I guess our waiter was too busy for us. After that, we never saw him again until he brought the check. Other than his poor service, the experience was excellent because the food was fantastic. Okay food. Nothing good, nothing bad. The salsa was weird though, one kinda tasted like ranch. It wasn't bad just not something I want to dip tortilla chips in. Overall everything was just kinda plain, especially for the price. Not that the price was that bad for a restaurant, but the food was more on a fast food level as far as flavor so the price should be be too. Took the family here last night and it's usually crowded on a Saturday night, but wasn't last night. The weather was nice, so we asked to sit on the patio. The hostess informed us there were no tables available. I could see the patio from where we were standing and there were plenty of empty tables, but they needed to be cleaned off. I told her we'd wait for a table on the patio. She again stated none were available and it would take 15-20 minutes before they could be cleaned. This may seem like a minor issue, but her job as the hostess is to get someone to clean the tables and seat customers. The hostess needs to be trained better. The food was good, it not as good as it normally is. Our waiter was great though. read more

Chuys really came through at the last minute with a venue change! The waitress and food was fantastic! Road House is usually are go to place for birthday dinners. I called a day in advance and asked if a party of 19 would be a problem and I was told it would not. So when we met there at 5:30 the next day (Tuesday) we were expecting a awesome experience as always. As our party was brought in the server tried to sit us in different places in the restaurant. She indicated there were not enough servers to take care of party that size. When we asked if more servers could be brought in to service us, our waitress indicated it was against policy for servers to mix sections. After asking to speak to a manager, we waited for a while, and decided to try a different restaurant. Another member of our party over heard the server complaining about trying to accommodate us. The place was packed during dinner time so I thought Chuy's had potential. The service was decent: server was nice and friendly. The salsa with the chips was good since it had fresh tomatoes and jalapeños which added a nice kick of heat. However, the main entree, a fajita steak burrito here is more like a bean burrito. When you are expecting a filling of meat and all you get is beans oozing out its a bit disappointing. My second favorite Tex-Mex in town. I like the atmosphere at the Westheimer location better, but it's too far away these days. This location is more family-oriented, which is fine since I've got two young kids (the non-screaming type). Great selection of sauces - I go for the Green Chile or Hatch Green Chile, and order Green Chile rice with everything instead of the standard Spanish rice. Favorite dishes are the 911 Enchiladas (off menu - but servers generally know about it) and chicken rellenos (best I've had outside of New Mexico). Margaritas are good as well. Texas/Mexican martinis are great - but they go down just way too fast! read more

Just not feelin' it. After so many comments on the chicka chicka, we ordered that. Not special at all. Dried out bland hunk of chicken in a flour tortilla with queso on top. There was some spice to the queso but we were not at all impressed. The house margaritas tasted like winearitas. Bland, weak. Macho burrito however was pretty good. Flavorful pork, cheese and green sauce, you really can't go wrong with that combination except there was so little guacamole on it. The rice was not good and the beans were not very flavorable, contrary to other reviews Most people seem to like the green?? sauce but not liking ranch too much or sour cream, I ate one bite and passed on that. Chuy's is TexMex. This place is our go to venue for this genre when we don't want fajitas. The chips and salsa are divine. We tend to stop and buy some for our own dinner parties ... worth the trip. The spicy hatch green chile sauce is excellent and goes with just about anything on the menu. I love the beef or chicken enchiladas, quesadillas, or the burritos. When green chiles are in season, you must go for the green chile festival. They always have some marvelous new concoction and bring back favorites. Chuy's has become a staple of mine, they always have great food and I don't have to wait too long if I make sure not to go during insane hours like Saturday night. The Chicka-chicka boom-boom is excellent, although not clear on what you get. It's basically a chicken burrito drowned in queso, which I thought was pretty dang good. On my most recent visit, I had the stacked enchiladas, also delicious. On my next visit, I aim to try the southwestern style enchilada with the blue corn tortilla and the fried egg on top. read more
