Came to Ambriza at Town Lake last night with a friend who was visiting from out of town. It was also my first night out in a long time after going through a lot personally, so I was really looking forward to a good night. The evening started off great. We were seated on the patio with a beautiful lake view. Our waiter greeted us, brought our drinks, and even brought a bowl of water for my dog. For context, he is a service animal and was wearing his vest. He's a small Shihtzu. He's stayed calm, quiet, and under the table the entire time. After we got our drinks... nothing. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour and no one ever came back to take our food order, check on us, or acknowledge us. Meanwhile, the same waiter was actively serving every table around us..taking orders, bringing out food, and engaging with guests just not with us. The only time he came back was at the very end... to drop off the tab for our two Micheladas. That was it. Never once came to take our order for appetizers or food. We weren't rude, weren't demanding just sitting there talking with each other, catching up and waiting like any other customers. At that point, I was so disappointed I didn't even want to say anything. We just paid and left. I've never felt so overlooked and honestly, it felt like discrimination. I don't make that claim lightly, but when you're the only table not being served, it's hard to ignore. What's even more disappointing is that I've been to the Ambriza Cinco Ranch location multiple times and always had great service, even celebrated my birthday there. This was my first time at the Town Lake location, and it was the complete opposite experience. Beautiful location, but I won't be returning or recommending this location to anyone. read more

I prefer to give this place a five stars based on how good the food was and the overall atmosphere however, we went there Thursday night. It was busy but not excessively busy. There was quite a number of four top tables that were open however, our server we saw her to take our water and took a couple of appetizers and then we didn't see her (except one time to check on us while we were eating). We ended up placing our dinner order with the manager, who came to our table b/c she want to bring out our appetizer, street corn, which they offered at no cost since it was our first time eating there. The street corn was delicious! The food came out freshly prepared, and tasted delicious, except my wife's enchiladas didn't get prepared until we talked to the same manager. At this point the rest of the family was done eating their meals. They quickly corrected that , I the enchiladas out within 4-6 minutes. They were very apologetic and were kind enough to comp that entrée. The manager who was there on Thursday night was extremely helpful. However, since service is based on this server still gave her an 18% tip because that's how she earns a living, but I think she was just spread too thin with large parties. I'll change this to a first review if I go back and I get better service there's good odds I'll go back but I definitely will warn people that it takes long. I think by the time we sat down and left it was about an hour and almost 30 minutes and that was mainly due to lack of service. We're waiting for about 10 minutes just to get the check. read more

Usually, the Vintage Park is my go to location, but was close to here to meet friends, that we stopped in. Ambiance: 5/5 It is bigger than the other one with a spacious outdoor area. Inside is busy and bustling, the weather was good so enjoyed sitting outside and had the heat lamps on to help keep warm too. Service: 3/5 It was brunch time, so as shared, it was busy, I am mindful of that given staff and crowd, service will vary. But from when we walked in, and after we put our order in, I ended up taking my friends water because no one came to refill. Our waitress was present, not really engaging, almost seemed overwhelmed. Also, the cups had some residue from when they were washed. Food: 3/5 Chilaquiles sarteneados, with tomatillo green sauce and added chorizo and scrambled egg. I stuck to what I know to get. But unfortunately was met with a strange wonder. I thought it was just me, but I had my friend try the chorizo and it tasted bland. He too got chorizo on his plate and didn't have flavor. The side of fruit with Tajin is always an enjoyable side that's included with the plate. Drinks: 5/5 Carajillo - Ambriza has some great cocktails, from their margaritas to the Carajillo I had, it was just as it should be. I like that they don't serve it with ice in the glass. But the flavors were right on par with it not being too sweet and just the right taste of espresso. Overall, Ambriza has a big menu selection for anyone's taste and their drinks tend to be delicious. Let's just get right to the point...yes. Eat here. Tucked in the ends of Towne Lake right on the water, the outside ambiance is fantastic. The music can be a little overbearing depending on who is controlling the volume that day. But easily dismissed. The staff. I fail to recall our server's name, I believe it was Daniel as we share a common name, if it was you and you are the young gentleman in college...hats off to you son. They came by repeatedly to ensure we were being well sorted and to ask about the drinks, then the food, then to try and get our stuffed bellies into some dessert. This is like filling up your truck to the brim and saying sod it...I'll fill the bed up to for good measure...MADNESS (Get the Quatro Leches in short)...of course we did...heheheh. ON TO THE FOOD!!! Brunch: Egg Enfrijoladas - The short answer is yeeessss. It is basically all 4 food groups per bite...yet delicious. The black bean sauce is thick unctuous, and dare I say...no salt required (BLASPHEMY). If course you want this with the chorizo. The crema is an outstanding accompaniment, potatoes are different yet righteous, and the avocado was aplenty. Breakfast tacos...be prepared to eat these open face as you would be mad to try and wrap them...not a bad thing...The eggs were cooked perfectly and the wife opted for chorizo as well. I stole the pickeled onions. Eggs were cooked to perfection and dominated the plate. Excellent meat to egg ratio. Again...no salt required. Lunch: Street Corn. This is a MUST...ask for extra aioli and queso fresco on the side. Charred to perfection. Prep the floss. I'm goin in. Empanadas Chicken...absolutely divine. This is what pocket pies want to be when they get a little more grown up. The avocado sauce is to die for. Salt was needed for these...so I redeem myself. At this point can you tell we eat here a lot? Ceviche Tostadas. Mountainous with Mahi Mahi with the most excellent tequila lime sauce. Me and the chef must have words how to concoct this sauce...On a hot day. Margarita in hand...SO refreshing. Chicharron Pork Belly...this should be self explanatory as the only description needed is Yes. Wish it did come in a LITTLE larger portion...but it is quite calorie dense so it hits the spot. Comes with guac. Apply to chips at table. Smile. Tacos...PICK A TACO!!! ANY TACO (besides fish tacos...not my flavor...but if you like it...by all means...) I have yet to have one I did not like. If you held my feet to the fire...Barbacoa. Have napkins ready and eat it OVER the plate, arms extended or it will run down your forearms with juiciness. Mains: Just get the Carne Asada Tacos...I know this falls along with the Tacos portion of the review...but worth repeating. And it is Carne Asada. Self explanatory. I should have reviewed this place a long time ago because I've been coming here since they opened their first location in Louetta. The reason I stopped in the first time was because of all the Catrinas in the décor -- I'm obsessed with them! The ambiance is always on point. I typically go to the Town lake location, and it never disappoints. Mondays are all-day happy hour, which makes it even better. I came here for a weekday lunch since I had a work meeting in the area. Ambriza is beautifully nestled along Cypress Towne Lake with a beautiful view facing the lake. Definitely opt for outdoor seating if it's a nice day out! With that said, parking in the Towne Lake area can be scarce, with limited parking spots servicing the many neighboring businesses. It was the parking situation that made me remember coming here about 1.5 years ago for an Elite Week at Sweetgreen! Since I was dining solo, I sat at the bar. There wasn't a dedicated bartender during lunch, but one of the servers came by often to check on me. I asked for food recommendations, as I was conflicted between the fajitas or the flautas. My server recommended the fajitas, and I went for it, knowing that I fall back on flautas all too often at Mexican restaurants. I got the combo fajitas, in which you can pick 2 between beef, chicken, or shrimp. I went for beef and chicken. The fajitas came out with beautiful presentation, served in a molcajete. This gave me nostalgia of ordering a similar dish in Mexico! It came with 4 slices of each meat, plenty of onion, red chili pepper, and a nopal! On the side were tortillas(choice of corn or flour), guacamole, sour cream, rice, and black beans. Surprisingly no cheese or pico de gallo. While the chicken was juicy, the beef was a little dry and tough to bite apart. The rice was nothing special. black beans also came out very hot. I'm glad I tried this fajitas experience but will probably try something new next time. Chips and salsa came out first thing with my water. The red and green salsas both came out hot, which paired nicely with the hot and crispy tortilla chips. As per usual, I consumed the basket a bit too quickly and had plenty of leftovers of my main to take home. I would happily come back here if I find myself in the area. They have a good menu of happy hour deals 2-7pm on weekdays, 7-10pm on Sundays, and all day on Monday! I would love to come back and try their margs soon. read more

This was my first time trying Ambriza. We went for brunch with a friend. Very cute restaurant, right by the water. Since we were first timers, they gave us free pan dulce, which was the best I ever had!!! They were warm and fresh. So good. You can also purchase them off the menu or they were walking around with a cart selling them with hot chocolate. I got ranchero eggs. They were really good. Nice and flavorful! I wish I had photos but we inhaled it too fast! My husband got a chorizo burger and added an over medium egg to the burger. He said it was so good. TIP: not all Ambrizias have the same menu. Whoa! This place is great!! Authentic taste, fresh ingredients, great decor inside, and outstanding service. My friend had been many times before so I had a guide to help navigate me. We ordered the Lorenza tacos, beef empanadas, and the Mexican street corn to share. We wanted to try a few different items, so ordering appetizers was the best way to do so. Each appetizer came with 3 to an order. Lorenza tacos are typically a happy hour menu item, but our server went ahead and asked the kitchen to make them for us anyway. They are a cross between a tostada and a taco. Topped with refried beans, cheese, and grilled steak cut into squares. They were absolutely delicious. Then we had the beef empanadas. The drizzle on the outside and the warm beef inside the crunchy shell was a great pair. The Mexican street corn came with a mini Tajin Seasoning. It was a nice touch. The real magic is the corn itself. So very tasty! You can get the corn on or off the cob, but I highly recommend on the cob. It can be a little messy, but it is so yummy! Our server was wonderful. She took good care of us, brought our items in a timely manner, and was all around pleasant. The decor inside is very nice with a circular bar in the middle. They also have outside patio seating by the water. It was too cold the day we went, so we opted for inside. First time guests receive a Mexican dessert bread. It too was very good. So I would like to lead with the service was awesome. The server was welcoming and friendly. In all what I would expect. So then you ask why the 2 stars. If you must know it is 4.5 stars for service. The food ordered was good except for their seafood rice. I'm just gonna jump straight into it. The octopus was bad. It was so bad that the plate smelled fishy as well as tasted that way. To be honest, the ceviche that was ordered did not taste bad so I was a little confused although the chips which were plantains seemed a little stale and not fresh Asked for the rest of the food it was fine So you were asking am I making this post because I'm mad about the the octopus the answer is now. What I'm frustrated with is the two small ramekins of sour cream that had to be ordered because the rice dish that was ordered was so spicy on the first bite that it had to be cut. In addition to the sour cream was two dollars. Wallet is only two dollars bring me out chips and salsa and other sauces over and over which is free does not enhance my experience But getting sour cream so I can actually eat the meal I ordered because it is overly spicy at a charge. Makes me think twice about whether or not I should ask for something different. Thus intern picking somewhere else to eat I try to give my feedback multiple times this evening and I just wanted to share publicly that if McDonald's charged for ketchup, people might actually stop buying french fries. This was a $20 dish that in multiple cases was inedible Even if octopus was good. It was so spicy that it had no flavor just spice. Sorry, I just had to actually downgrade this after reading my bill. This cheap ass restaurant charge me an extra dollar for mole on their dry chicken. I'm sorry please make sure you have enough sauce for your food. A $60 meal which didn't include my wife's main course because it was inedible. After making her sick later this evening. I only happened to look at the receipt for a second time and noticed that I was charged a 3% surcharge for my credit card. Please do not walk around with a stupid manual device, handing it to me and charging me 3% for using something that is convenient for you If your company is going to charge me money for using a credit card, please just take the time to increase the price on all of your menu items included in the cost of doing business. Call it a day. Let me decide whether or not don't want to eat there please stop penalizing me for using a credit card in a restaurant that doesn't take cash. While this might not be my last post, I find that these scenarios make it my last visit at restaurants that I've taken a great menu, made it mediocre and are just trying to max their profits instead of the customer experience I'm sorry you all failed. I loved that they gave you both read and green. The beef empanadas were flaky and very flavorful. The guacamole was very fresh, I just wish the portion was a little bigger. The street corn was creamy and had just the right amount of spice and flavor. The steak in the steak and egg tacos was super tender. I didn't care for the potatoes, they tasted like they were stewed, but I tore up the fruit. I'm not a fan of sopes in general and I think we picked the wrong meat for this dish. We asked if we could get biria sopes, which they so kindly gave us, but I don't think the flavors meshed well together. The biria had a dark rich flavor, but a little too much on the cumin side maybe. My absolute favorite here was the pan dulce and the serrano cucumber margarita. The pan dulce was soooo soft and delicious. It was served warm from a little cart that they pushed around the restaurant. I love coming here when visiting my daughter. We came here on a Sunday, so brunch was on the menu. To drink, I had a Mezcal Old Fashioned. I asked for it not too sweet. It came out sweet. She took it back and brought me another one. It was less sweet but still sweet. We got the Chalipitas de lechon. They were a bit messy but good. The lechin was super moist and tender. The maduros envuelto were ok. The smokiness of the bacon with the sweetness of the plantain was a nice flavor profile. For my main, I got the barbacoa and polenta. The meat was really tender and flavorful. The polenta is not any polenta I have ever had. It was super dry, not much flavor and not worth the calories! I pretty much just ate the egg and the beef. It came with some potatoes that were super salty and some fruit with Tajin. I'll definitely come back when I am in town again, but now I know what not to order. read more

As first-time patrons, they gave us complimentary bread that really stole the show. Add in the chips that youd expect from a Mexican restaurant and it was already off to a great start. From there, they recommended their award-winning cucumber Serrano margarita. Let me say, it is actually the best margarita I've ever had. It was extremely smooth and refreshing and oh so large. I had a spicy cucumber marg that didn't really taste spicy much was a little strong since I could feel the drink hitting me after I finished it. The beef fajitas were okay. The texture was off, very soft and feels like it was frozen or just low quality. It didn't have enough exciting flavor for me either. So where to start...the friendly staff, the food the view...went on homecoming night so all the restaurants in Towne Lake Boardwalk were super busy. Left our name and they pages us in about 10-15 minutes as promised. Seated in a nice table with a view of the lake. We were first timers so they brought us an elote to get started. Very decent selection of tequila and it seems everyone enjoys their 'Rita's. I had the tuna tostadas and wife enjoyed a chicken dish. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. They serve Mexico City style food as opposed to Tex-Me. Food was excellent and they were generous with chips and salsa. They didn't skimp on the tuna. Certainly deserve a stop. read more

Ambiance: This is our 2nd time visiting. First time was for a Friday night date (experiencing the beautiful water and festivities outdoors) and second time with a friend after church for brunch. When eating outdoors you get the fresh air and the sight of beautiful ducks walking around during the day.The restaurant is clean and provides a great dining experience (either indoors or outdoors - not too far off the lake.) Starters: Beef Empanada: I love a good empanada and The beef was cooked well and not greasy; the aioli chipotle was spectacular. Street Corn: Normally this would be last on my list due to my taste buds; but I wanted to experiment. I loved how there's a sweet element mixed with the aioli and cilantro. All were paired perfectly and a great size to share amongst the table. Quesabirria: The braised beef was the star of the meal, it was juicy and cooked to perfection, I was able to substitute the corn tortillas for the flour (major plus for me). the rice and beans were okay but I didn't mind as everything else was a 10. Mexican steak and eggs: I want to start by saying my husband is someone who does not like steak so I was shocked he chose this option and went the brunch route. His steak was well done (and well done here is not dry or stiff) and well seasoned. He mentioned he would definitely recommend. Service: Whether you speak to the hostess, your waitress, or any other employee; customer service is always a 10. All are helpful in choosing some of their best dishes and if there is any issue with food being cold (like my husband's was) they were quick to correct it. 10/10.
