I've been going to this particular location for years. I met a co-worker there for lunch because he loves it. I'm not a huge Mexican food fan at most restaurants. The food and service are always ok but for me personally it's just too heavy. I always leave feeling overstuffed. I had the 2 beef enchilada meal with side of beans and rice. Again, the food is not bad and the atmosphere is pretty lively, and the waitstaff is great. If you're a fan of Mexican food you will probably enjoy it. It just makes it too hard for me to move around after I eat there. Who doesn't love Chuy's? It is really good and affordable tex mex. I love that the tortilla are made fresh. The boom boom sauce and jalapeño ranch sauce is drinkable good. Chuy's is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants to go to. However, this location could use just tad amount of work. It isn't terrible, but it took ages for the waiter to bring us the jalapeno ranch that I had asked for. We finally got our food....and it was as if there was less food on my plate than usual, even though I have ordered the same dish multiple times (#8 Lite Plate) and it is always a good amount. Well I hadn't been here since the month it was built and honestly I didn't miss anything about it. I ended up here because I was off and was looking for a good happy hour. I remembered they had a decent bar design so I figured...why not. I was very pleased on that decision and I must admit most of the credit goes to the friendliness and personality of the bartender. (I sat at the bar.) Jamie provided a pleasant experience during my happy hour visit here. Although I wasn't hungry, I figured since I'm here I may as well do some taste testing. The Fajitas aren't the best...but it's okay for Tex mex. It's really hard for me to rate them on the beef because it has an authentic grill flavor. My experience says its pink slim but my tongue says it's just really good tex mex. So I will stick with that and let you be the judge. Rare that I will let that slide but given that this is a known Tex-Mex spot and not authentic, Im giving this spot a break on this go round since they did change the beef since I was there last. I don't think this location has the charm of it's Elvis-ridden brother over on Westheimer. That makes it just a tex-mex restaurant. It's the same menu from what I could perceive. I feel like you have to be picky about their menu, because you can easily be stuck with a dud plate. My mom had the veggie enchiladas. I think they think that being vegetarian means you don't like your food to have flavor. Yeesh. 'Twas bad. Their queso is one of my favorites in Tex-Mex land though. We had a group of 13 on a Tuesday night. We called 30 mins before to give them a heads up, since they don't take reservations. The wait was about 30 mins and the waiting area was packed full of people. Since it was so busy, it took a long time for us to get our drinks and an even longer time to get out food and second round of drinks. The salsa, white sauce, and chips are served right away, probably to distract people from the wait for drinks and their orders. The white sauce tastes like ranch, but the salsa is quite good. I ordered the Elvis fried chicken, which is covered in potato chips and served with a spicy sauce and cheese melted on top. It's good but nothing mind blowing that I need to try again. Everyone else had the same experience where their food was ok but not great. The Texas Martini was also a little disappointing - it's supposed to be a margarita made with a jalapeño infused tequila, garnished with jalapeño stuffed olives but it really just tasted like a regular margarita. My friend didn't even get the olives with his order, which was crummy. Our server was perky and energetic. She had everything we needed preset and in place before our food arrived. I really like Chuy's, and although I am not into Mexican food, if I am ever to eat any this is one of the restaurants I'd visit. The website says: "If you've been to one Chuy's, you've been to one Chuy's." I've only been to two. The one in Upper Kirby and now this one. They truly are different. The one in Upper Kirby has an 80's feel to it. Very Americanized with pictures on the walls and glittery stuff around the restaurant. This one is more of a tropical feel. There are a few coconut trees in the middle. Don't worry about a coconut landing on your head, the trees are not real (haha! ). There are a million paintings on the wall, if not for the loud noise.. one could think it was someones(crazy looking) house. Service was good, we were a group of about 15-20 and the waiter tried to be prompt with our orders. I had two margaritas. The strawberry one was delicious, but the mango was a little bitter. I believe I had enchiladas and they were good. One note, this place is on 290E, in the same shopping center as Chilli's. It is really easy to miss if you don't already know it's there! read more

My preference for my favorite Salsa is a fresh pico style sauce & A love of their creamy sauce, all with crispy chips. My number one item to order is their Bean & Cheese Burrito with Queso, refried Beans. No 2 is their Cheese Enchiladas with Queso. No3 is their Fajitas All Excellent! Drinks included! My only critique is they need a nice moist & firm Tamale. Nice ambiance, the service is slow to respond after initial contact, generally good on memory, half the time. Mostly Cordial. I've been eating at Chuy's (and Hula Hut) for 20+ years. Today, I'm moving on to another Tex-Mex place for a while. Chuy's food is great, and the customer service is (largely) great as well. The problem? Their apparent inability to handle web/phone orders. Two of my last three delivered orders have arrived with the food, plus a big bag of chips and....WHERE IS THE SALSA?!???!?! AND THE CREAMY JALAPENO???!??! Yep, 2 out of my last 3 Chuy's orders have included dry chips (and actually, dry rice and beans, since I usually pour creamy jalapeno over those). Good as always. I had the beef relleno and chica chica boom boom enchilada combo. All of the flavors and textures were spot on - wouldn't change a thing. Chuy's is also one of the few places that makes pinto beans I like - they're particularly savory. I also had a New Mexican martini that had some excellent flavor combinations between the jalapeño and green chile infusions. The decor is colorful and there's a good amount of seating both inside and out, so even on a busy Friday night, we didn't have to wait too long for a table. There's also a good amount of parking so you will likely be able to find a space. I knocked a star off for the service. There were a couple times where it took a while for the table to get replenished on things like drinks and chips and salsa. Also, a couple of people at the table got their food considerably earlier than the other 4 - making it a little awkward. Also, they missed my beans when the rest of us were served, and I had to ask for it specifically. Overall a good experience and I would still recommend Chuy's to anyone. read more

Two words. Tres leches. Hands down the reason we come here. In my opinion the best in town. Past desserts they have a great menu with tons of weekly specials. And about the only place outside Colorado to find green chili sauce on a menu year round. Their salsa is very fresh tasting, and delicious. Their creamy jalapeño could be consumed via straw it's so good. The wait staff is always friendly, and you don't have a super long wait ever. I think the most I have waited was around 15 minutes. As busy as this place is right now, my drink was not empty and the food was good. I got the burrito and expected it to be a little soggy since it is soaked in your choice of sauce but it was not at all soggy. My server, Kiana was AMAZING. She was on point with service, but also acknowledged my 7 year old and help a conversation with him when he stopped her as she walked by. I went for dinner here on Jan 10,2020, place was very busy . Extremely rude hostess. She pushed that I sit at the Bar and said "suit your self , wait time is 45 min to be seated " So not only that I was hungry but I couldn't spare 45 min to waste so I sat at the Bar. When at the Bar I was immediately given Alcohol menu which I turned down and asked for Food menu, female Bartender got one and just dropped it in front of me, rudely. I shortly after order Loaded chicken enchiladas. It took awhile for My food to arrive and on a very hot plate with my enchiladas warm and NOT hot . I was already fed up with bad and rude customer service and just was too tired to complain. Shortly after I ate my food I asked for my check. Another female bartender handed me my check and I gave her $20 bill to pay . She proceeded my payment right away and handed me a receipt that shows that customer paid with $50 bill and received $36.17 in change instead of $6.17 from paying with $20 for my order in amount $13.83 I asked the female bartender ( Sam ) for a correct receipt but she chose to preach to me in an argumentative tone that it does not matter what receipt say but I insisted to get correct receipt so she took fradulant receipt and left somewhere to print I guess or fix what she says was minor mistake , it took her longer to come back with new receipt than earlier to bring my food . When Sam returned once again she dropped the receipt in front of me . Whatever scams Chuy's restaurant , it's hostesses and bartenders are running in ther I don't want to be part of but since bartender Sam chose to include me into their scam by giving me fraudulent receipt I have a reason to believe that US Uncle Sam might be interested in my complaint. Bartender Sam refused to give back the first FRADULANT receipt but likely I took pictures of it before I gave it to her to correct it . I asked Sam bartender to speak to the restaurant Manager but she said that Aaron was not in and instead she offered that I speak to her supervisor. I refused to speak to her supervisor. I was told by another dissatisfied visitor that Hostess are trained and get bonus pay for every customer that they get sited at the Bar and if customer turns down to sit at the Bar pays in some way with vindictive rude service. I didn't beleive it until I was put through such vindictive bad customer service. read more

I dine at Chuy's often. More than a couple of times a month. I usually receive excellent service from the wait staff at Chuy's but TODAY - not so much. I had Crittle as a waitress today. Now, where do I start with this review of how terrible her service was? First off, she kept forgetting things that I asked her to bring me - she'd walk past me (a couple times), then she'd remember - oh yeah *snaps her fingers* I got that drink coming.. she did this more than once. She took some of my food to the back before I was done eating and totally discarded it. When I looked for it on the table (poof), it was gone. When I brought it to her attention, she again, snaps her fingers and says..I was so busy chatting that I just took it away - I'm sorry.. Then, I asked her for a take out box so I could box my food to go and she brings out '1' container. Mind you, I had enough food to fill 3 containers because of the meal I ordered. When I asked her to bring me 2 more containers, she reacted as if she didn't want to bring the containers to me. I had to firmly let her know that I needed 2 more containers and show her with hand motions that I wanted to pack certain things separately. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse with this waitress, she then takes an extra long time to bring me ANYTHING that I requested. She never asked if my Coca Cola which I'd drank completely - having nothing but ice in the glass, needed refilling. She never asked me if there was anything else I needed or if I was ok. I always had to flag her down for anything I needed and then I would have to wait long periods before she brought it to me. I will NOT ever sit with her again. I will request a different waitress. Today was a terrible experience. I would've picked another place to spend my money had I known I'd get the waitress from hell! This place has gone down. The waiter admitted seeing my friend and I trying to stabilize a wobbly table. I asked him why didn't he come help and he just laughed. We ordered an appetizer and a margarita. The waiter never came and asked how we were doing I tried to wave him down just to get napkins because apparently while I was in the bathroom he spilled my drink and didn't bother to clean it up. When they bought our food from the back ,everything was burnt we decided just to pay our bill and leave.
