Ordered food to-go over the phone since we thought they'd be insanely busy at 6pm on a Saturday night in downtown Nashville. After Thursday night waiting in a long line at Hattie B's just down the street, we thought to-go was smart. Upside: Was a fast and easy transaction over the phone. Downside: We were very disappointed once arriving to get the food. The staff was rude, unprofessional and curt. When the hostess was done dealing with us, she sat down and started reading her book again (they weren't packed as we suspected). The food was just okay. Fajita meat was mediocre. We got one steak and one chicken. The chips were stale and tortillas were not fresh. This is not what we've come to expect from Chuy's. For some reason this chain which I always associate with Texas has a pretty large following especially across the Southern States. I went to original Chuy's pretty often back when I lived in Austin (and actually my first meal in Austin after evacuating from New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina was in original Chuy's). I had given up potato chips and corn chips and all types of chips for about 3 years when I first walked into Austin Chuy's so damn you Chuy's for runing my strict discipline of all those years and getting me back on the chips. So I was surprised to find a Chuy's in Nashville sitting a stone's throw away from the hotel I was staying at so I had to make a visit and check it out. For some reason some PC buffoon somewhere decided to rename the infamous Chuy's "Mexican Martini" to the "Texas Martini" which is just plain dang silly. I still ordered the "Mexican Martini" and they knew what I was talking about. I was sad they didn't have a prickly pear margarita on tap but the bartender said they rotate the flavors seasonally and they would rotate it in again at some point. Overall it seems pretty close to the food and flavor of the original Chuy's but perhaps a bit more bland but Austin Tex-Mex is pretty bland compared to other locations in general. They have some good drinks so it is worth stopping in here just for the booze alone so make sure to order the MEXICAN martini and sample several margaritas. read more

Really fun atmosphere, great food! Our waitress was also super. We sat right in front of the tortilla press so it was fun to watch her make the tortillas while we sat there. My sister and I got margaritas and really, how can you go wrong?? I think this is one of this places that consistently delivers good food. Ive been to a number of them in a variety of cities and just feel like you can always expect a good time. The kids have a good variety to choose from and that always makes the meal easier! My boyfriend and I went for lunch and had our usual order of chicken fajitas for one (it is enough for 2) and I had a side of boom boom sauce for the chips. I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. I was actually hoping to find a good sushi bar in the neighborhood but decided to take a chance on this unknown (to me) Mexican looking place. They have just kicked off their 2019 Green Chilies Festival and the featured special of the day was Pork Belly Tacos in Green Chili Salsa - I went for them! The serving was huge with three totally stuffed soft shell tortillas, a generous side of rice and a small salad. The pork belly strip were perfectly seared, juicy and very flavorful. The green chili salsa was awesome - low burn, crunchy with jicama and red cabbage with cilantro and small pineapple chunks to cool the heat. Very flavorful with great texture and visual appeal from bright colors. Chips are pretty standard issue at a Tex-Mex place like this one, but they even kicked that a notch with both a tomato based salsa and a creamy, garlic, green chili mayo dip. The temptation to pour it all over the rice and make a big mess was very real. My server did a great job of staying on top of me even though I was a party of one. And I couldn't resist picking up one of their TACOCAT t-shirts - note well, TACOCAT backwards is TACOCAT!! This might turn out to be a one hit wonder, but after those off the hook tacos, I will be back to research the rest of the menu (and the margaritas!) read more

We made a trip here during our first trip to Nashville after our Lyft driver named it as one of her favorite places to eat. There was no wait on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't long before we were seated in a booth with a basket of warm, freshly fried chips and a small dish of piquant salsa fresca. We munched through these fairly fast and were both happy but torn to find them quickly replenished with a fresh batch as soon as we were done. After two baskets, we'd nearly ruined our appetites for our oncoming meals. I ordered the fish baja tacos, which came with its choice of rice (Mexican or green chile), beans (refried or charro) and lettuce and chopped tomatoes on the side. The beans were my surprising favorite of the meal, which were just viscous enough to swath the rice with flavor juice. The platter came with two fish tacos, which were wrapped with a layer of foil that only barely contained the creamy jalapeño sauce that came spilling out with each bite. The fish was beautifully highlighted in this taco, with a dark, crispy batter that was well-seasoned and, at first glance, the kind of batter you might find on great fried chicken. The salsa that came with our tortilla chips were delightfully repurposed in these tacos, but the menu boasts an entire list of various salsas one can request with their entrees. Chuy's is a chain of restaurants and we've already passed by several as we've traveled further down south. This location is a decent one with free parking for patrons in the back. The atmosphere is fun and festive, and service from the host bar to the table was fast and friendly. So glad I didn't trust some of the negative reviews. I said too my wife "if we don't get a proper greeting at the door, we leave." I think Nashville is having an identity crisis when it comes to hiring quality talent, but they're trying to fix it. On this Wednesday afternoon, they had a great team at Chuy's and fixed my attitude quickly. We were greeted kindly at the door and seated immediately. Our waitress was right there with chips and salsa, and took drink orders. We ordered food when she returned and Our food was ready quickly, so they were doing their job in back as well. My wife and I shared the Elvis, plenty of food for two. My son had the "big as your face" steak burrito and could not finish it. The spices and flavors were not overpowered by the heat, it was a beautiful mélange. And the cheese they're using is real full fat, full flavor, nice and stringy quality creamy cheese. The atmosphere is odd and eclectic, random, but not totally, so it's interesting to look at. And they give you some interesting things to look at! Others have commented on the decor here. The price was the best/fairest we've had so far in Nashville! Thanks to Chuy's for adjusting my attitude, and saving Nashville's reputation. read more

Love at first bite When visiting Nashville (America) before moving here, Chuy's was the first Mexican restaurant I got to try. It was instant love. Their chips are fresh and made right there on the spot. So thin they almost melt in your mouth. Their salsa is the best one I ever had! It doesn't feel thick or sugary, it tastes like it was made of really good quality ingredients that same day. Oh, and don't forget to order the Creamy Jalapeño sauce! You might as well just order 2 bowls at one... I have a couple of favorite dishes here. Chicken chimichanga is always perfect, the stuffed poblano with shrimp and cheese is heavenly and if your looking for something lighter I would highly recommend the chicken soup. I have had different waiters every time, the service has always been really good and more over I think they only hire people with real good personalities here! Chuy's is one of those restaurants that I love not just for the food but for the ambiance too. - I love coming here with large groups. This is one of those restaurants that does well with that. - Their creamy jalepeño sauce is one reason why I keep coming back. Combine that with the chips they serve in the beginning and you might fill yourself up before your entree arrives! - They have wonderful margs with lots and lots of flavors - a perfect pairing for the salty chips and salsa - I do enjoy the food. It's not the best quality and sometimes leaves me feeling a little sick (I should probably stop ordering the really oily items) but it's still hearty and comforting to eat. If you're looking for good Mexican food, I don't know if Chuy's should be your first place looking, but this is a great, quick lunch/dinner place that's great for groups and good times. read more

OMG! can you say segregation is still alive and well and it's coming from some~not all the workers at a restaurant called Chuy's on Broadway what a real let down. I should of known something was up when my husband (He's Mexican) and I (I'm Black) were seated at a the tables closest to the door & right across from the bathroom. The restaurant was lively with booths & tables open and the music was playing. There were plenty of Nashville friendly customers eating they were just tables separating them from US. At first I didn't think much about it until I saw other parties of 2 being walked pasted us several times to join the Nashville friendly crowd. Then I saw the distance, the tables & booths in between (we don't have Coodies.) And that was first time in Nashville I felt different. 5 tables away different to be exact. Besides that my husband ordered combo fajitas, I got enchiladas and a , their salsa is very bland. No I would never go back. And if you're into sittin near bathrooms when restaurants are have more appropriate seating and paying your money for hostess to power trip on you Try Chuy's on Broadway. Every so often, my wife just wakes up and wants something different and not her norm so on Sunday night, she wanted a margarita. She had yet to find a place during our trip to get one so she just went searching and found this place because we wanted to grab dinner at another restaurant in the immediate area. Chuy's is exactly what you expect with the Fast Casual Tex - Mex food genre. It's going to be full of people who are drinking in groups, loud and more about atmosphere than some sort of luxury dining experience. That's fine as long as you don't walk into the restroom like I did and found that someone had already puked in there by 6 pm but hey, it happens. That aside, we had a couple of margaritas and life was good. The 3 bachelorette parties we watched come in and slam drinks before leaving on their bus were a funny side experience. We really enjoyed our bartender, Veronica who was engaging and really good at her job. She was everywhere and kept the party flowing at the bar.
