This was my first time visiting Chuy's and I will say that I will be back. Let me start off by saying I'm not a huge Mexican food eater so this review may not be as detailed as most of my reviews. The customer service was excellent. I love being greeted by a friendly smile and more importantly I love an enthusiastic server. The decor was vibrant, fun, and I loved the wall art! Now to the food...The Nacho Bar was highlight of my night...it was indeed my Kryptonite. I made about 3 trips up there before my food arrived so I got full before I could enjoy my entree. I suggest the Jalapeno dip...it's sooooooo delicious. As for my meal, I ordered a Shrimp ChuyChanga. It was good but my only suggestion would be to add shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. I'm not a big rice and beans eater but they were tasty. This was our second time going in 2 weeks. The first time was during lunch and super packed, but our server was one of the best. He was attentive, suggested items and very personable. We went today right when they opened, almost empty and our server Caleb was awful didn't introduce himself until after the food came, never checked on us, literally said "what do you want to drink" and seemed upset to have to interact with us. We waited over 10 minutes for to go plates as he made me and my girls so uncomfortable we took our meals to go. I've been to the location in midtown many times and always had a good time with good food. There are many sauces to choose from so there is a spice level for everyone's taste for many different dishes. The margaritas are tasty and everything is very reasonably priced. We have some friends who love this place, but to me it is the epitome of average. I've been here a bunch, usually when suggested by large groups and have never really loved the food, despite ordering different every time. It's a pretty cool vibe and has a decent patio area facing the heart of midtown. I also appreciate the unlimited chips with a variety of sauces (love the creamy jalapeño, the queso and the tomatillo one). When it comes to the entrees, I have just never been impressed. The various meats are all just a little bland. Most of the stuff I have had is really large portions, which I appreciate, but is underwhelming in flavor, sort of a quantity over quality place. Recently got the fish tacos and it sort of tasted like a warmed up fish stick covered in breading instead of a nice fried, flaky piece of fish with crispy skin. This place was just a short walk from our hotel and casual seemed like a good idea. It is a large location with a lot of seating indoors and out. It was quite brisk that night so the outside was closed. The decor is cheesy and touristy. Depending on your mood or taste that may be a good thing. We were sat right away. Our server was friendly and attentive through out the meal. I ordered the #2. It is The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. It comes with a beef Tex-Mex enchilada, cheese Ranchero enchilada, chicken Tomatillo enchilada, a seasoned ground sirloin crispy taco and homemade tostada chips dipped in chile con queso. It also comes with rice and beans. You get a tremendous amount of food for your money. The food was ok. It was not bad, but was lacking. I poured on some hot sauce to help give it more flavor depth. I have come here so many times in the past but there was a period of time in the last several years where I did not eat here. I think it was the parking situation that mostly discouraged me from coming here. I absolutely refuse to do valet. Free or not. I think it's so dumb and I've only valet maybe once or twice in my life. Anyway don't let that detract from your choice to come here. In the last month I've come here and eaten three more times. I always find nearby street parking and walk. The decor is really nice. Lots of great trinkets and I absolutely love the 'dog room'. I have always come in here solo and so I go and sit in the bar open seating. I saw a worker making fresh flour tortillas in the back. I had always got the Elvis tribute combo which is too much for me to eat in one sitting. I have since fallen in love with the tacos. Don't everyone eviscerate me because - Yes. I'm Mexican. I know real tacos and appreciate real tacos and also know these are tex mex tacos. I still think they're good. I also love the jalapeño cream sauce everyone raves about. The manager, John or Jon, came out and asked how I knew the chicken was raw i demonstration the rubbery texture and pink in the chicken. John or Jon asked if I wanted something else, not was I okay or apologized for what happened. John or Jon kept serving other customers, and I never followed up with any concern. I asked him for his name, and he replied I don't give out my entire name. I am a paying customer just looking for some concern. I was tired when I landed here and had a hangover from my day drinking. It took a few to get menus maybe I was agitated. But it didn't disappoint. Got the queso and it wasn't the traditional white queso but man this stuff was amazing. Like let's put it on everything and gain 10# amazing. I opted for the chicken flautas and they were perfect. Chicken was tender and the tortilla was crisp. I got the sauce on the side which was perfectly smoky and delish in its own right. I just wanted to alternate with the sauce and the queso. I have heard mixed reviews about Chuy's and thought what better way to give it a try then with my foodie loving co-workers. We arrived shortly after noon, the valet attendants were busy so we decided to self park due to limited time. Luckily there was one parking spot left in the back of the restaurant. The hostess greeted us and asked our preference indoor or patio seating. Even though it was the prettiest fall day we opted for indoors to enjoy the beautiful decor. Our server was nice, helpful, and attentive to our needs. We enjoyed the warm chips & salsa as we reviewed the menu. I decided on the Monday special chicken enchiladas with green chile avocado sauce served with chile rice and refried beans. My beverages were a water and a blackberry margarita that I shared with my co-worker. It was so good that I wanted another but had to go back to work #think responsibly. My entree was seasoned well with Mexican spices, fresh tortillas, and ripe avocado. It was delicious! For dessert we shared the Tres Leches and omg words can't describe the deliciousness. It is a square sponge-like cake saturated in three different types of milk and sitting in a pool of Creme Fraiche, topped with strawberry slices and decorated with caramel. It was absolutely delicious! It will make you say oooohhh, aaaahhh, and yum after every bite. Maybe it was the bright lights and convenient Midtown location that lured me to Chuy's last Saturday night? My friends and I were enjoying lively libations across the street at Tavern when we started to feel the urge for some chips and salsa and maybe a margarita to add to our portfolio of cocktails for the evening. I should preface that I previously had never stepped foot into a Chuy's nor did I realize that it was a chain. I swear. If I would have know the odd events that were to occur, I would have happily stayed at Tavern and ordered up some bites there. From an aesthetic viewpoint, I actually think the "Griswoldy" light arrangement on the exterior is fun and adds a kitschy element to the neighborhood. The deck seating appeared to be spacious and will likely be a popular hangout in favorable weather. Once we stepped inside, I was surprised by how spacious Chuy's was. It certainly gave off a more "corporate" vibe that reminded me of TGI - Friday's, flair and all. Our server seemed very inexperienced in not only the menu offerings but also the drink menu. I seriously thought that were on a hidden camera show when she brought out her special version of Jack and water. WOW. I ordered the tasty Veggie Enchiladas ($7.99) which was comprised of onions, zucchini, yellow squash, red bell peppers, serranos, spinach, roasted green chiles, and corn in homemade tortillas with Ranchero sauce. I excluded the cheese as I am a vegan. The entree also came with beans and rice which is a fair price for such a filling meal. However, again the waitress was very erratic in her behavior when I was ordering and had difficulty answering questions on their veg-friendly options. This is even more strange because little symbols with "anti-cows" are featured throughout the menu to denote veg-friendly fare. I also ordered up a strawberry margarita ($5.99) which was totally forgettable. The other annoying factor was we had to repeatedly ask the server for more salsa which she kept forgetting. I would normally not ding a business so hard due to a server's inadequacies but this experience was so odd and truly affected our overall satisfaction repeatedly throughout our visit. With this location being newer, I hope that they weed out the issues amongst staffing before they alienate more customers. The GUAC HERE IS THE TITS! If this guac was sub par, I definitely would have rated this less a star or two less because if it weren't for the green stuff, my chicken fajitas would have been a touch bland (but that can also be because I requested no butter in the process of making these). But no need to even think about that because the guac was insanely flavorful and chunky and awesome! I could definitely tell it is made in house (as are their tortillas, but I didn't experience them). My fajita plate went down the hatch in lightning speed and I totally could have ordered a second one, but I restrained myself cause I'm a lady? My fiancé got a burrito... After one bite he said "this is the second best burrito I have ever had in my life." I asked him what was the first- he couldn't remember but he knew he had at least ONE better. That being said, his picky palette is insanely hard to please so if you're considering the burrito, DO IT! Chuy's is Chuy's really. There are a couple of things I appreciate about this location; it tends to be less crowded than the Opry Mills version. They also offer valet and I can snag a seat at the bar area quite easily. Which is nice...but The service at the bar BLOWS. I've always had mediocre and sometimes completely forgetful service when I grab a bar top in this section. On my last visit our server had a table of his friends, and we went most of the meal sans silverware and no refills... frustrating. Then last night I sat directly at the bar and just ordered the chicken tortilla soup (lets be real, that should take 10 minutes max) and we waited way over that. Sigh. I almost asked but luckily the bartender noticed the look on my face before I had to and got it taken care of. They do have a lovely patio right in midtown to enjoy on a nice day. I like that a lot. Foodwise, it is what it is. By far the best item they offer (its on a secret menu) is the chuy gooey. mmmm. Try it next time. read more

My friends LOVE this place. I honestly don't see what all the hype is about. I don't hate it, but to me, it's comparable to other chain Mexican restaurants. They do have some unique items - like lots of different salsas and dips, and all kinds of fancy drinks. But I haven't been impressed by anything I've gotten; I often don't even bring home the leftovers. The experience is also just egh. Parking is crazy around there, so you pretty much have to valet (and tip). The service is average. And the acoustics are terrible. Addicted. Completely addicted. It makes my heart sad that Chuy's is a chain, but when you think about it, that means we have access to creamy jalapeño ranch in (12) states. Goodbye sadness, hello pure joy. Free chips, salsa and jalapeño ranch (they call it creamy, weird name, but get over it as it probably has more friends than you do on Facebook). Chips are super thin & are addicting without any dip. Salsa is a hit or miss - you can tell they make it fresh since it always tastes slightly different. Plates are huge. Be prepared to be rolled home. Taco salad, chicken tacos, taquitos, green chili rice (waaaay better than the regular rice), wild burrito and the tortilla soup are some of my favorites. Warning for my fellow cheese-avoiders: Chuy's melts cheese onto all their burrito tortillas even if not listed as an ingredient on the menu. One doesn't go to Nashville for Mexican, but when the line is way too long at Hattie B's and the sun is beating down on you, you go somewhere else. Fortunately for my friends and I, we ended up at Chuy's and it was surprisingly delicious. We shared two combination steak and chicken fajitas for two for the group and it was more than enough. They chicken was extremely tender and so was the steak. The seasoning was on point and the rice and beans were delicious. I liked how they served the accompaniments and the flour tortillas on the side and everything was fresh, hot, and yummy. The server was attentive and friendly and brought us tortilla chips and salsa quite a few times since we were ravenous. Kudos to him for putting up with my friends who were acting as if they'd never eaten before lol. I was the only one who had a margarita and it was quite good, just the right amount of everything and it helped me wash down my fajitas perfectly. Chuy's reminds me of Chevy's with a hoarders twist. You'll know what I am talking about when you walk through the door. It almost looks like something that belongs in Disney World or actually anywhere in Florida. Either way the clutter is vibrant and they have about a hundred pictures of dogs on the wall. Who doesn't like dogs? Well, I don't like the chihuahua beauty queen painting, now that's just creepy, the rest were A-OK. To the food! The food is okay, not great. I'm not a fan of Tex-Mex which probably skews my view. Flour soft tacos weird me out for some reason, unless it's a street taco which is always corn so.....this, this was more of a T-Bell taco. My other half asked when I got home which I would prefer, a Chuy's soft taco or a T-Bell soft taco and I said T-Bell!!! I immediately felt terrible but here I am typing that very same statement 24 hours later. My reasoning, ugh this is terrible, is that there is more flavor in a t-bell soft taco. sad face. Now for the good. The chips are light and fresh. The salsa is chunky and does the trick. I'm uncertain as to whether they had different spice levels, all I can say was ours was mild. Even so I liked it. Our waitress was diligent on keeping our salsa and chips bowls full. She was basically a never ending chip dealer. Now I have hope for Chuy's. Nashville Chuy's is seriously such a great location. If you're lucky, you can find a parking spot and leave your car in midtown and uber your way around the city after a meal at Chuys! Service was amazing - ask for Kate (or if you want to sit by the Patio with the heaters, you'll likely get her). She was super on the spot with all her recommendations and new the menu inside and out - including the desert of the day! Oh and of course this is the South, so for our tennis group, a perfect splendor of jokes and local lore was provided for the occasion. 2. The chips... I hate chips that are heavy and fill you up, but the chips here are light and crunchy... and they have mini-shovels in which they refill instantly - no waiting around for more chips at this place (and I went on a busy day).... 3. The food - okay if you want to be a tex-mex snob and say this doesn't match your elite Texas glory from some middle of no where place, appreciate that you are in Tennessee and for the love of god given midtown Nashville prices, you are doing amazing! We came in at a very non-busy time (weekday, middle of afternoon) and asked to sit outside. The hostess said there were 3 parties about to be sat outside and the wait would "be an hour because I don't want to tell you 10-15 mins and then you're waiting longer." Hmm..ok, well we chose to wait for an outdoor table since it clearly wasn't going to take that long. We sat at the bar and ordered a Pina Colada and a Strawberry Daiquari - both really good! Hopes up! Our pager went off probably about 15 mins later and we were sat on the outdoor patio. The waitress was fine throughout, but she seemed either really nervous or unconfident...it was a little strange, but I'm not reviewing her. I ordered the chuychanga w/o green chiles and with the deluxe tomatillo sauce. The tortilla is wayyy over fried and the drizzled sour cream on top is basically hardened by the time the fork comes into use. The sauce was fine, but something inside was extremely spicy, though I didn't see any chiles. I do think w/o the spice factor, my (sensitive?) mouth would have allowed me to eat more than 1/3 of it, because it did seem to taste pretty good otherwise. I just couldn't do it. Also, had the tortilla been less fried, the enjoyability factor would have again risen. The rice & beans were tasty, as were the chips/salsa brought to the table. My husband excitedly ordered the #1 Comida Deluxe w/ enchiladas, chicken flautas, taco, & guacamole. He may have forcefully eaten 1/4 of his plate. He said it was disgusting and the only good thing on it was the guacamole. How disappointing! We both ordered one more drink each and neither of us felt we were waiting long, but the waitress came to apologize for the wait, saying the bar was backed up (although it didn't seem busy??). A few mins later, the manager came and brought the drinks to us and apologized again for the wait...I don't think it was more than 5 mins, but that was a nice gesture. Great food and very interactive/friendly staff members. Let me just start by saying that the food is very good here and the waiters are very friendly as well. My fiancee and I came here to eat prior to going out and about in Nashville and weren't disappointed. We had a very cool waiter (can't remember his name, but he was a middle-aged White male with a shaved bald head) he was super attentive and kind. Made us feel like like regulars and made sure we had everything we needed. Very-good experience and it definitely made us come back a second time before we left Nashville. I ended up sitting in the bar area which took another 15 minutes to get greeted. Quite frustrating, but I was hungry. Chuy's is a Tex-Mex establishment in the midtown area of Nashville, next to contemporary college favorite bars such as The Red Door Saloon, Re-Bar, and other Vandy favorites. It is quite a large restaurant (looks can be deceiving) with an abundance of wild colors inside. There are several areas to sit- -a family friendly table, booth section, a bar area with TV, and an outside patio. It is a nice aroma and always very busy. I have been here when it is really busy, and the wait can get to 30 minutes sometimes. Food I usually get the combination platters or the burritos here. The portions are massive. The burritos cost about 10 bucks but include spanish rice. They are usually wet burritos- I got the macho burrito (Saturday specialty) and it was on point. They give you a healthy portion of guacamole, cheese, and sauce. The pulled pork was okay but the service is pretty quick. You also get free chips and salsa. The salsa is a little watered down, but the chips are really crisp and salted just right. The combination platters and fajitas are delicious. They come with several tacos, enchiladas, and other fritters (such as beans and rice). I love the grand portions here and you will always leave full. read more

My friends and I came to drink margaritas and eat chips and salsa. I'm always super excited to visit Chuy's given they have a great fresh salsa and creamy jalepeño sauce. I was extremely cautious trying Chuy's in Nashville considering that it is a Texas staple Tex-Mex restaurant and I didn't know if it would have some of same features in HOUSTON. I was pleasantly surprised! The salsa fresca and the creamy jalepeño are THE same! Even the decor! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was based on the fact that our chips were not fresh from the fryer. Our service was fast and efficient!
