It has been a while since I have eaten at Chuy's. So we came here to eat with family. The atmosphere was as it has always been, and the waitstaff was quite nice, but not very attentive or accurate. I understand that things can get busy, but they should still rotate around the area they are assigned to check on the needs of the patrons. There were a few mistakes on orders we requested, and it took us actually seeking out our server to rectify the issues. Even then, the only other time we saw our server that night was when they came to give us our bill. As for the food, well I will only speak of my own plate. I ordered the Chile Rellenos plate, with the hatch green chili sauce, and standard sides. The rice and beans were tasty and had no complaints with. The pepper was not fire roasted as claimed... it was battered and over-fried to a color that was a deep deep brown to an almost dark brown/burnt color. when you cut into it, the pepper was very hard, and removing the over fried battered crust revealed that this pepper was never fire-roasted in any way. Lastly was the hatch-green chili sauce. I found it to be slimey and nauseating. Which I was not the only one in the dining area to have this same issue with it. The flavor was extremely bitter, and like I said the texture was slimey. NOT GOOD EATS people. I can only nope that this was an isolated incident. read more

Went to Chuys last week and sat at the bar with Paola! Awesome service, awesome bartender. She had great suggestions! The food was okay which is why I'm giving them 4 stars, but Paola deserves 5!!!! Wonderful service, as a waitress myself I'm very impressed. Chuy's will always be one of my favorite restaurants, and the San Marcos location is no less than the rest. I recommend the Elvis Presley without the green Chile's, the bean and cheese burrito, or taco salad which is served in a GIANT fried tortilla (chip)bowl! I just wanted to give a shoutout to our waitress and the manager on duty today (Feb 8, 2020). My mom ordered the Frito Pie Enchiladas and while they did honor her request to remove the chili's - it was still too spicy for her. 100% my moms fault and nothing wrong with the food, she just couldn't eat it because it was too spicy for her. The manager and waitress immediately helped her pick something else out and were so nice about it. We aren't ones to send back food but she just made a bad choice in this case. curbside takes WAY too long. after i place an order i wait around 10 minutes to leave the house, it's a 15 minute drive there, and i'm still waiting 30min at LEAST. the worst wait was when i had ordered a single burrito and was there an hour. six cars showed up after me and all got their order before i did. one car got there order within ~3 minutes of being there and had three bags worth of food whilst i ordered one thing and waited an hour. another time i went with my sister, she placed the order and was going to pay online because she didn't have cash but the link didn't work so we decided we were just going to tell them when they were giving us our order. we get there and are there for about 20-30minutes and still no food (mind you we had ordered two things and just like the other time, people getting there after us were getting their food before us) we thought they were waiting till we paid online or responded with "cash" to bring out our order so we decided to text cash and tell the employee the situation when we got there. i don't know her name, but she has really curly reddish/pink hair. she was rude the second she got to the car. we told her the problem and she said "are you kidding ? you said cash. " we explained the problem again, she rolled her eyes and shoved the bag onto me almost spilling the food all over me and my car. i was taken back so i kind of just sat there. she then took the box of nachos and started swinging it infront of my face telling me to take it, she straight up hit me in the face with the box multiple times. did not apologize. my sister goes to hand her the card, she rips it out of her hand and almost elbows me in the face in the process (my sister was in the passenger seat, the employee was on the drivers side) when she came back with the card, she threw it in my lap and said "you need to sign the receipt" when i was handing the receipt back, she rolled her eyes and snatched it out of my hands then walked off. she made such a big deal over us responding cash when it wasn't our fault the link was working and also not our fault we thought we had to either pay online or respond "cash" for the order to come out considering we had been there 20-30minutes with no food. also when my sister was placing the order, the employee hung up on her three times and when she finally answered without hanging up, she gave so much attitude while my sister was trying to order. my sister and i went to curbside just now, and we waited around 20minutes for our order that was only two things, and she was the one who brought out our order. when she got to the window, i think she recognized us bc she rolled her eyes and shoved the bag into my sisters lap and walked off without saying anything the entire time. i don't understand how someone's customer service could be THIS awful. read more

I finally tried out Chuy's after learning it wasn't just an Austin chain, but a national (regional) chain. They have to be doing something right to achieve that kind of success, you'd think. For what it is, a chain restaurant with house-made tortillas and likely nothing else made there, what I ordered was fantastic. I got an Enchilada with Boom-boom sauce on it. The Boom-boom sauce was amazing. It had a lot of cheese and cilantro flavor to it, with a little bit of spice. Just enough to let you know it has some peppers in it. It basically tastes like a delicious queso due to the cheese flavor. Amazing. The chicken inside of the enchilada was good. It was just chicken. I also had a chicken chalupa that'd be closer to a bean tostada. Nothing special here. Borracho beans were nothing special, but the green chile rice was spectacular. Way better than boring Mexican rice. If all I had were the rice and the Boom-boom enchiladas, this place would be a 5/5. The chalupa and beans were disappointing, but not a deal-breaker due to how great the aforementioned rice and sauce are.heavy lifters here. read more

Honestly Chuy's is always a banger. But I wanted to leave this review about my server Brandon. He noticed I was staying in a hotel (my room key was on the table), so he brought me a coke to go along with chips and salsa. He never made me feel rushed to leave. He was sweet, attentive, and thoughtful. I haven't had that experience at any restaurant in a long time. Being in customer service can be a thankless, draining job sometimes. Not impressed with our first visit here. I love Chuy's chips and jalapeño ranch salsa. The waitress was nice but the kitchen got our order wrong. My tacos has lettuce only and they should of had cheese, lettuce & tomatoes. Another order was suppose to be meat only and it was loaded. And another was suppose to be double rice and they had beans. It took about 15 minutes for the other rice to come out and they charged us for them. In the end the manager comped the two tacos and the rice, but this wasn't the experience I expected. Over the years I've been to several Chuy's locations, and I have to say I find the San Marcos location to be no better than the rest. You may ask why I keep going to Chuy's if I find them to be meh, and it's because (in all honesty) the rest of my family *loves* them. However, I do not. I *love* Tex-mex food, and I eat it at all kinds of places, from upscale to dives, and I almost always love it. Chuy's is one big exception for me. I'll admit that when they announced a location was opening in San Marcos I was excited, because it's always good to have more dining options, and it's been a while since I ate at one and figured they may have upped their game. They have not. And I have empirical proof, not just my opinion. I figured that for our first visit I would make it easy for Chuy's (and me) by ordering something simple - cheese enchiladas. On our first visit they were completely underwhelming, with a layer of cheese so thin I figured it must have been a mistake. However, I figured that since they had just opened I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. So, we waited a week or two and went back, and the same thing happened. This time I discretely and politely flagged down our waitress and showed her the amount of cheese, and asked her if that was normal. She said no, and said she'd get it corrected. She finally brought out the 'corrected' enchiladas, and they were no better. I plan to attach a photo of the enchiladas from both visits so that you can see for yourself. Note that I virtually never send back food, so for me to do this means that both a) the amount of cheese was egregiously small and b) I really wanted to give Chuy's a chance to make it right. So, suffice it to say that I have yet to have a meal at Chuy's that I would go back for, ever. I will say that the waitstaff was efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere is buzzing (sometimes too loudly). I'll still go to Chuy's because my family loves them, and I'll continue working my way through their menu, as I have for *years*, trying to find even a single dish that would make me want to come back. read more

Chuy's is pretty adequate Tex-Mex, the creamy jalapeño ranch dip that they give you with chips and salsa is pretty bomb. Not the biggest fan of their refried beans which is weird because you'd think a Tex-Mex restaurant would have their refried bean recipe on lockdown. Anyway if I ever do find myself here, my go-to is the bean & cheese burrito with deluxe tomatillo sauce. read more

I ordered the hatch green chili chicken enchiladas and when I received my plate the sauce on the enchiladas was a deep dark red color like mole. I said I wanted the "green" hatch chili sauce. Waitress said that's what it was. I sent back and asked for the regular green chili sauce and they brought me the same dark sauce as the first time. I then just scraped off the red sauce and asked for a side of boom boom sauce so I can pour over the enchiladas. Finally I got to eat but of course they charged me $3 for the side of boom boom sauce. I was here on a Friday night with my boyfriend and the wait was only about 15 min before being seated. Chips and salsa they serve as an appetizer were good. I got the deluxe quesadillas and they were alright, they weren't the best ive had and they were more like soft tacos because they were in there own little tortillas. My boyfriend got the combination #2, he thought all of them were good but wasn't a big fan of one of the enchiladas that come with the plate sadly he doesn't remember which one though. I had such high hopes for this location since the Austin original is so great. However, I've been twice and I'm just not impressed. The young waitress, fresh out of high school, was wonderful and seemed to have more experience than the 4, yes I said FOUR, bartenders at the bar I sat at during my second trip. Not one of them was aware that I was finished with my quick meal and I had to ask for silverware, then my check, and then finally had to ask one to take my credit card! Boo!! Although, I am a huge fan of Chuy's I am disappointed to always have a wait at the San Marcos location. Perhaps they should build another one across town. We came here Saturday during an off time (Around 2:45 pm) and the wait for a table was 50 minutes. We were lucky enough to snag a couple of bar tables that were next to each other. The bar was packed and it took some time before we were finally waited on. They were very understaffed and there was one waitress for the entire bar section. I have gone to Chuy's several times forgetting why so much time in between. Two different locations, slow service and it wasn't busy. Servers seem to be busy on their cell phones and it took them forever to take our orders, again it wasn't busy and the place could have use some cleaning especially in the bathroom where paper towel was missing. The food wasn't appealing and it was not as hot ,I believe the server did not bought it to us as the cook finished cooking it. I was very disappointed and left there with a stomach ache! If I could give a lower star I would. I always seem to have issues when I visit this location which is a shame because I love Chuy's and this is the closest one to me. About a week ago, i placed an order to go for 2 plates and 2 soft drinks. When I arrived, 25 minutes later, I walked up to the host stand to find that both girls were too occupied on their phones. After informing them that i was there to pick up, they told me the order wasn't ready but that they would notify the kitchen. An hour passed and i never received my food. Now, I have worked in the service industry so I understand that places do get busy, but an hour is unreasonable. I approached both girls numerous times to inquire about my order only to be treated as if I had rudely interrupted their phone time (which they were on for the entirety of my time sitting there). The to-go girl eventually did bring out the food (forgetting the drinks) and shoved it all in my hands, almost dropping the order. After ringing my card, she asked if there was anything else she could do so I reminded her that I paid for drinks. She loudly scoffed and went to get them. When she returned, I noticed the lids weren't on properly and we're hanging to the side on the straw, but she continued to shove them in my hands thus spilling the drinks on me. I asked for a drink holder as I couldn't hold everything by myself and again, she scoffed. She returned with a half opened drink holder and practically tossed it at me. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had here and am very disappointed that those are the girls left at front of house as the face of the restaurant. read more

So I get to go quite often for my work. I love the fried Alvarado. The service is quite fantastic. However every time I get our order to go the person who does the to go order somehow never has change. Even when it's over $10 he will ask me if I was my change my back. Like yes, I would like my $14 back. I always tip our to go guy. Because I have worked in the food industry. Beware of food poisoning! Chicken fajitas were undercooked to the point of being raw in the middle -- definitely a case of food poisoning waiting to happen. I wish I hadn't taken a bite before noticing. It really isn't that hard to cook protein to temperature, especially with such a thin cut of meat. So I have been back to this location a few times since leaving the last review. Originally, I gave it another chance because the manager reached out, but continued going back because the quality and service has improved considerably. The waitstaff that I've had the last few times has been extremely attentive, and the food has been what I expect from Chuys.
