Great service, but I'm giving Chuy's a second thought at this point... the Greeters and Wait staff were nice, but I never realized how limited their menu is... For example, Chuy's doesn't sale Tamales. Whaaaaaaat??? R u kidding me? Also, they dont offer a super/personal size of queso for the dry Fajitas they serve. After asking the nice Waiter a million questions about the menu and hearing about the very many up charges (for each thing), I checked out mentally, settled for the Fajitas and knew somehow I was not going to enjoy my meal. Don't think I'll give Chuy's another try (not this one at least). Wayyyyy too over complicated. The restaurant blasted cold air eventhough it was 41 degrees outside. The manager was nice enough to adjust the temperature!! Made for a more pleasant dining experience. Recommendation: Great job with presentation of Fajitas (siziling with all the fixins); however, they are difficult to eat dry. Please consider garlic butter, regular butter, or adding a sauce or small queso of your choice. Other than that, things were great! read more

This is by far my favorite location yet. The chips and salsa came the minute we sat down and our drink order was taken right away. The place just had good energy and we hit there at the perfect time right before the dinner rush. Our server Ryan was so friendly and happily answered my questions about a few dishes. He stayed on top of our drink refills, never had to ask for anything. The food was great too! I got the veggie enchiladas and my son got the chicken burrito, I had a bite and it was delicious. I am definitely ordering that on my next visit! We will be back here and will ask for Ryan if he is available! read more

the previous time I went to Chuy's in San Marcos, the food was good but this week, Thursday December 28, it was disappointing. my enchilada plate had not been cooked long enough. It wasn't hot and the constituent parts were not the least melded. the chicken inside the enchilada was nice. My son and my husband reported their Elvis platters seems to have been sitting around a long time. we were a party of five and I didn't discuss with the other two. The restaurant was busy with delivery orders, perhaps to the neglect of in house customers? Everyone was nice, especially the hostess, we quizzed about our place the waiting line. The atmosphere is cute as usual. But in light of the poor restaurants in San Marcos, it is especially irritating that chuy's isn't dependable. read more

I live in a town with a Tex-Mex restaurant that mostly does a great job, but which is... less good with its nachos. So when I was in Central Texas and craving some nachos, my choice was Chuy's. The service was friendly and helpful, the chips were, as usual, fantastic, and the nachos were delicious--as was the Perfect Margarita. Indeed, one weakness of restaurant nachos is that they sometimes skimp on guacamole. Not so Chuy's. I left pleasantly full with just the nachos and so I am most definitely a fan. read more

We arrived at 6:45 after making a prior reservation and we've seen 4 parties before us get sat, our party size was only 7 and there hasn't been any accommodations for our party, the host told us that they were waiting on a server to be prepared for us but it's been 30 minutes to get sat at a pre reserved table I wouldn't recommend coming if you haven't allotted time for a long wait. read more

Chuy's used to be my favorite Tex Mex place in Austin and in Houston. Since they reduced the choices of dishes a few years ago, they've really gone down hill fast. Im actually surprised they are still around. Back in the day, I can remember going there twice a week for their free nacho bar and great margaritas. We'd often times go for dinner after hitting up the bar for a couple of drinks, chips and nacho cheese. The last time I went at the San Marcos location, I literally threw up when I got home. Food and service was terrible and the seemingly alcohol free frozen margaritas were barely frozen. We had to send them back. The mole sauce on the enchiladas tasted gross. I left most of my food on my plate. Sad to see such a once great restaurant go down so low. There are taco trucks that are better than this place and much cheaper!! Oh. Plus the last three times we've been there the waitstaff was incompetent and rude! read more

Ladies, gents, and family restrooms, plus mine was sufficiently clean given the crowd that night, with no paper on the floor *anywhere*. One of the only decent places to get Tex Mex in San Marcos and surrounding areas. The price is good and the margaritas are top notch. I personally like the fajitas and shrimp tacos most of all. I would recommend ordering anything but the enchiladas. The tortillas used to make everything else look and taste homemade and are awesome but the corn tortillas used to make the enchiladas are bland and taste store bought. Atmosphere is great! Staff is friendly but I notice they are for the most part unkempt in their appearance with ripped or stained clothing and the 'fresh' just rolled out of bed look. It doesn't bother me that much as they are all pretty friendly but it is a bit off putting to have your food served to you by someone with a nasty, dirty shirt on. read more

This was our first time eating out (indoors) in 7 months since COVID started. We went on a Saturday night and did not have to wait long to be seated. We were seated in a booth, all of the booths had a plastic barrier between them and all of the servers/workers had on masks. The menu was limited, but they had everything we wanted and the food was delicious. The only thing they were out of that we wished they had was tex mex sauce. But, they made up for it by having plenty of creamy jalapeño sauce. We ordered a tres leches for dessert and it was delicious, as always. Omg! I really love the queso! It's my favorite thing at Chuys! Also a good try is to get the appetizer plate! It's the best thing I ever tried at Chuys! Was excited to see the Baja fried shrimp tacos back on the menu only to order and be really let down. They were terrible, and I sent it back. NOTHING like the old tacos I loved. Idk what exactly changed. Ordered the chimichanga as replacement and they no longer use the good shredded chicken I remember. Hardly any chicken inside at all and it looked more like chopped chicken breast. Charging for some stuffing and way too much tortilla. This 5 stars is for the Stuffed Sopapilla! This is an off-the-menu item that is basically a burrito but instead of a tortilla they use a sopapilla. It comes with meat of your choice, cheese, and beans (which I get on the side) and also comes with a side of rice and can be covered in a sauce (I prefer queso). It's amazing.
