Great potential with an inviting bar that opens up to the patio. But food is the most important feature of great restaurants and Chuy's has some hits and misses. The salsa was spoiled and had to be swapped out for some that was marginally better. Our family went out for a nice evening out together. Little did I realize the service would be so horrible. For starters it took forever for our waitress to come to our table. Then I had to ask for things several times before we received them. Our glasses were empty for ten minutes until she came around again and I had to ask her for refills. We rarely saw her, and at the end she had disappeared completely. I had to find a manager to get out ticket and a to go box. He apologized and found a waitress to help out, but didn't seemed that concerned. I know that when I was a waitress I would be on thin ice if I gave service like the service she gave tonight. I have been a life-time fan of Chuy's. My family is originally from Austin and I worked for them years ago. Sadly the company and the food is not as good as it used to be. Sure, a lot of their hatch stuff is still stunning, and their margs are pretty killer, but a few of my old favorites don't taste quite as unbelievable as I remember them. The biggest killer is how it's losing its playful charm. The servers seem miserable and the managers act more like prison guards. I have noted this at a couple of locations, but Southlake may be the most extreme. Chuy's needs return to its roots: freshest food, funnest funkiest culture, and best service in the world. For God's sake, this place is awesome! All the negative reviews are BS. People don't come here for the Damn soup, and yes, authentic chicken tortilla soup may have some bones in it? Chickens have bones. Get over it. I've been to several locations of this restaurant in Austin and here in Southlake and have never had a bad experience. Take your Southlake snobbery elsewhere. I have been a fan of Chuy's restaurants for many years. The restaurants in Austin and in Waco never failed to be a good experience. I have given Chuy's in Southlake many different chances. I have yet to have a good experience at this location. I tend to call in for takeout and only one time got a complete / correct order. Tonight is no different. So disappointed. I ordered the combo fajitas and a 16oz creamy jalapeño. Was looking forward to having the dip to snack on over the coming weekend. I pick up my order and get home with cold fajitas and instead of a 16 oz creamy jalapeño dip I find they charged me for and gave me a 16 oz Salsa Fresco instead. I don't like the salsa fresco and am now out money for a meal not worth eating. Last chance. Never again for this location. read more

Today my mom and I tried Chuy's for the first time and needless to say we will definitely be making it one of our regulars! The chips and queso was phenomenal, my mom and I both agreed it was the best queso we've ever had. We ate the whole thing and both said we probably wouldn't be able to finish our meals because we filled up on their wonderful queso. However, the enchiladas were SO AMAZING that we were both proved wrong and cleaned our entire plates. We will definitely be in a food coma for the rest of the day but it was so worth it! We had such a great experience. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the service was pretty bad... we stood in the lobby for a good 10 minutes and were never greeted by a host. We eventually had to go into the dining area and asked a server if we could be seated. The server seated us quickly but it took probably another 10 minutes to be greeted by our server. Service was slow throughout the entire meal as well, but the food was so incredible that we would definitely go back even if we received slow service again. read more

Let me start by saying I am a big fan of the Chuy's in Dallas on McKinney. Since I now live closer to the Southlake location, my husband and I thought we'd give it a try for Happy Hour. We set at the bar and it took quite a while to get our drinks. However, that was not the problem. Our chairs were close to where the waiters picked up drinks for their tables. Between the staff cussing and talking negatively about other customers, we decided not to stay for dinner. This was going on in other areas as well. It was very uncomfortable to hear the wait staff so boldly talking in front of customers. I realize goofing off by staff is needed to get through the day and have an enjoyable work environment, but cussing and some of the conversations being loudly had was unnecessary. Also, as we set there we saw a couple members of the wait staff playing with straws & other things that go in customers drinks. Just unappetizing to watch things you are about to put your mouth on being played with by wait staff. Large margaritas were over twice the price of the regular happy hour margarita & we saw a waiter pour a small into a large and it was very close to the same size. Will not return to this location. It is a great restaurant, I hope this location improves. read more

I really hate to give negative reviews.. I went to Chuy's with a group from work and not one person was happy with their food. What I personally had: Cheese Enchiladas, rice, charro beans, salsa, taco, and queso. The only thing that I would consider better than 2 stars on an individual basis would be the rice. The rice was regular decent three star rice. The cheese enchiladas were a 1-2 star item. The red sauce was overpowering. I literally couldn't taste the cheese because of the red sauce. The salsa was 2-3 star item. It was okish. It was very tomatoey but with a bit of a kick. I don't have a problem with the salsa but it wasn't...good. The queso was mediocre. It had a bit of a weird taste..maybe a 2.75-3 star type item. The tacos were bad. I'd say probably a 1-2 star item. I didn't care for the tortillas at all. It had a bit of a pita taste. And the charro beans. They tasted a bit like charro beans that I would make at home if I didn't put anything in it at all to give it any flavor. They were the worst charro beans I've ever had in my life. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh. Maybe it is a 2 star restaurant instead of a 1 star restaurant..but when so many things were that mediocre to bad, it's hard to give it more than a star. I did forget to mention that the tea was actually pretty good. However, I did have to ask for a refill. So..there you have it. read more

At one point she asked us if we were "even going to eat", so I guess we were taking too long to order (we had only been at the restaurant for 10 minutes). Poor service yet again. Justin with tongue piercing was clueless. Waited 10 mins for jalepeno ranch sauce. Asked for charro beans instead of refried. Got refried. Finally got charro but was charged extra. Son ordered steak fajita burrito, but got ground beef. Son's girlfriend ordered two small enchiladas, and got two kids plate orders. We waited 40 minutes for food the waiter and manager kept coming to apologize but when their problems become my problems it's time to find a different restaurant. I generally like Chuy's, went to this Southlake location and was seated next to an inconsiderate and obnoxiously loud human megaphone. The woman was annoying everyone else in the dining room, as I could see the glares from every other table and see the other guests commenting. My waitress was even embarrassed and apologized for my guest and I having to tolerate it. My issue with that was why did a manager not address it? There was no way to not know or hear the woman. She should have been asked to quiet down or asked to leave, especially when, according to the waitress, the woman wasn't even ordering food or drinks. The management either didn't care or didn't want to deal with it. That in itself will keep me from returning. Other than sharing a bad dining experience with everyone else there, my waitress was really good. The food wasn't up to par in comparison to other Chuy's I've been to. If you're determined to eat at Chuy's, I strongly recommend avoiding this one in Southlake. read more

My experience here was great! Our server was very nice and tried to get us our order fast, despite the huge dinner rush. We had very specific requests and questions about the menu and the manager himself was also very accommodating. He tried his best to make sure everyone in my family had a good meal and customized one of the dishes so my mom could have something that fit her strict dietary restrictions. This is a very popular restaurant esp on Friday nights, so we expected to wait a while but after seeing several customers that arrived after us, we finally asked and they discovered that they had totally bypassed our name. The hostess blamed us for not responding to the page. We were sitting 2 feet from the hostess stand. We were finally seated and ordered a meal that had charro beans, corn tortillas and no cheese. The meal arrived with cheese(I had told the waitress that I had a dairy allergy). That meal was returned and the next meal had flour tortillas and-refried beans. I told the waitress that I needed corn tortillas (gluten sensitive), she returned with a tortilla warmer and left. I took half of one tortilla and bit into a raw tortilla. All of the tortillas were raw. A miserable experience and the manager did comp the meal but raw food is unacceptable and not addressing my allergies put me at risk. Be careful. read more

From out of town and unfortunately had to eat later than normal. In the darkness Chuy's red and yellow neon sign was a beacon of hope in an otherwise sleepy town. Not knowing what to expect but hopeful, we took a chance rather than going for some fast food. We are so glad we did! Chuy's is, in a word, awesome. The food was top notch, but what we really appreciate is the service, which was stellar. Our server, upon hearing it was our first time, brought us a plate of the various salsas and toppings. That by itself was delicious, not a bad one in the bunch and ranged from mild to spicy. The chips were warm and the tortillas were authentic. As you can guess, the food was downright delicious and the servings were huge. As far as the atmosphere, the inside was very family friendly and there were bar/outside areas for adults. I especially liked the music selection that was playing at a reasonable level and not offending our ears so that we could talk without yelling. Lastly the manager came over and thanked us for coming by. Maybe it was Chuy himself, maybe not, but little things like that really do make a difference in dining experiences. Our first visit here and we were so disappointed. The food was awful. Some of the worst food I've had since Chef Blythe's Bistro raw chicken. First, the salsa we received was a frothy pink concoction. I thought it had a good flavor though. Chips were thin and crispy. Jalapeño sauce was jalapeño ranch dip. I ordered a chicken chalupa with soft chicken taco. The tomatoes on the taco had a musty moldy flavor. The fajita chicken was terribly dried out. Tortilla was cold. The chalupa was disgusting. First bite of the chicken had a strange off flavor so the next bite I took was just of the beans. Nope, nope, nope. They were definitely spoiled or old or something! Nasty nasty nasty. Watching two tables near me. One person not eating their food. Other table had called the manager over and sent back theirs. So, i don't think it was just my food. However, the place was quite crowded at 3:00 on a Sunday. The waitress was friendly. The decor is cool to look at. They had some funny t-shirts for sale at the hostess stand. Finally was able to visit on the third try, as they've been so busy lately. Interior decoration is also busy, but in a bad way. Large, plastic palm trees, mismatched portraits on the walls made the place seem kitschy and artificial, like a Mexican restaurant wannabe. I ordered my staple steak fajitas as a benchmark. The rice and beans, lettuce, cheese, pico, and flour tortillas were standard, these are usually generic and don't vary from place to place. This leaves the steak fajita meat where a restaurant really can distinguish itself from the others. In this case, it didn't happen. The fajita slices were tough, chewy, and under seasoned. Returning to the ambiance this Sunday lunchtime, it was extremely noisy, very difficult to carry on a conversation across the table without yelling, which is what so many others seemed to be doing.
