    The Chipotle Sandwich

My husband and I came in here on our stop after visiting the lighthouse near by. We meant to go to the place across the street.... But this one was busier and pulled us in with a menu that had more options. We ordered a chipotle sandwich added bacon and a Downeaster. They were both delicious and filling! We ordered a cold brew as well which was tasty and the hibiscus lemonade which was so good. Definitely check them out :)

It's been a crazy month with social distancing and when you are craving a breakfast sandwich. Great to see they were open for pick up. The menu is on line and easy to navigate. Placed the order over the phone and in less then 15 minutes we were able to walk in, pay and enjoy. The Saco was incredible and so delicious. Just what we needed to start our morning. I was also surprised to see so yummy baked goods as well. Next time. It was great to support local and to have such a yummy sandwich. Maybe the same next week. Thank you.

How have I never finished this review? I swear it's because every time I start to write it I fall asleep because I have the 'itis. Let's start here: I make pedicure appointments based on the hours at CIA cafe, why? Because we drive an hour to the nail joint and have to time it right that we get A TUNA MELT AND A VERMAINER for lunch before pedis. Idc what you say, this is HANDS DOWN THE BEST TUNA FISH SANDWICH IN THE GREAT STATE OF MAINE. Dear CIA, please never ever ever ever change your recipe. IF YOU DO, please don't. But if you do, please give me the original recipe. Sis always gets the Vermainer, which is delicious, too- but I will never not get the tuna. I just realized this whole review is dedicated to tuna. I'm ok with it. So. They do have other stuff. You'll have to go there to try it yourself because I'll never be able to comment on other stuff. Sorry, it's a personal choice I've made to not stray from THE TUNA FISH SANDWICH. Also, I only have a picture of the Vermainer because somehow I don't have the self control to take a picture of the tuna melt before I eat the whole freakin' thing. And I'm not even sorry.

Great vibe, AMAZING coffee and sandwiches. Their breakfast sandwiches are delicious and easily customizable and their avocado turkey BLT is definitely my favorite! Their matcha is the best in the area!

I've tried the sweet cream, strawberry, callebut chocolate, and Maine blueberry. Sweet cream was solid. The strawberry is unique - seems to have very high strawberry content, so it ends up almost tasting like an ice cream-sorbet hybrid in comparison to say Haagez Dazs which is more cream-forward. The chocolate was also great. I was hoping that the Maine blueberry would essentially taste like a black raspberry ice cream but it just tasted like blueberry, which I suppose should come as no surprise. It was a little too sweet and not my favorite but maybe true blueberry-lovers would like it. I read a bit online about how they don't do samples in order to keep costs down and also keep people moving in and out of the shop quickly. It's an interesting model but ultimately it feels like they are prioritizing saving marginal costs at the expense of the experience of the customer. Maybe they save tens of thousands of disposable spoons by doing this, but when it comes to a person's individual experience in the store wanting to optimize getting a flavor they like, that gets sacrificed. Sort of opposite of customer-first. Some of their flavors are also pretty unique like lemon poppy seed with a jam mixed in and it's hard to anticipate what that'll be like. I also think a homemade waffle cone as opposed to the bought ones they have available would be a major upgrade here. Overall, great ice cream with a few things that could be better.

When I got in, I saw the flavors listed on the board and tried a few samples served on a metal spoon. Since I was in Maine, I had to try the two blueberry flavors. I immediately fell in love with the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato and asked for a small cup with that flavor. The Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato is comprised of wild blueberries intersected with a sweet and crunchy oat streusel covering and kissed by a scoop of vanilla. It was so yummy! My husband had the Netflix & Chill Gelato which is caramel gelato with brownie bits, peanut butter cups, and kisses. The small dish was $6.35 each and it includes a Maine restaurant tax. The next day, during the Portland: Old Port Culinary Walking Tour on Sunday, June 14, 2026, our last stop was The Gelato Fiasco. Funny enough, I was just here the night before. At The Gelato Fiasco, our group of 13 were able to each choose two flavors. Since I already had the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato last night, I wanted to try some other flavors. This time I got the Ripe Mango and Thai Iced Tea. WOW! The Ripe Mango and Thai Iced Tea really tasted like how you would expect it to taste, all the flavors were there, but imagine it in a denser, silkier texture and a more intense flavor. I highly recommend checking out The Gelato Fiasco, you will not regret the smooth and creamy texture of the gelato. There are plenty of seating inside and outside.

I ordered a small dish consisting of a scoop of "Big Ole Peanut Butter" and a scoop of "Cookie Therapy." Both flavors were very bold which I enjoyed because I was able to really taste it. In addition, the cup size is a generous portion. Overall, this gelato place is a nice place to stop by for a quick dessert!

After having some of the bread prior to our meals at a few restaurants, we found out the bread is locally sourced at a sister business right around the corner from where ate the night before. There is parking avail for customers in the lot for 30 mins, we prob waited about 20 mins and crossed the threshold into baked goods heaven. There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!

Gross Confection recently announced on social media they would be shutting down the bar/desserts service while remaining open as a bakery. My wife and I came here many a times for an end cap to the night for one last drink and delicious and beautifully made desserts. From times in their dimly lit space that gave off romantic vibes or even enjoying our desserts in the summer sun outside people watching, every time will be remembered. Timing worked out well and we were doing a staycation in Portland and knew we needed to add a stop here one last time. Thankfully we got our names in on the waiting list early enough Friday and got sat as one of the last tables. We each had one last phenomenal drink; my wife and Apricot 75 that had a great tart kick of apricot and lemon. While I enjoyed their Chai Fashioned which spelt like a chai but had that boozy bourbon warming you'd expect. Dessert wise everything sounded good as always but we settled on two. The Goat Cheesecake and Pineapple Cake. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness without being cloying and the blueberry sorbet on top paired so well. The pineapple cake was moist and tasted so good we needed to scrap the plate clean. I'm sad that Portland is losing this amazing dessert space but glad it's not a complete goodbye since they'll operate the bakery still!
