The Parking was terrible. The lot next to them says its only for the store across the street and there is a clear sign on the fence that says Additional Parking in back. We parked in the back yet the parking attendant came to the table and told us it was only for Valet. We said we followed what the sign said and he asked for the keys. We gave the key and he apparently moved are car so close to the truck next to us and parked another car on the other side so close my very small very skinny daughter had to pull the car out for us to even get in. But that was all after the attendant had to move 2 trucks out of our way. They were very packed so we were expecting a wait but we had none. That was nice but we were seated at a table tucked into a corner right next to the window where the kitchen hands the food out. So our whole visit the wait staff was reaching over me to get food and drinks to tables. The coffees were great, the eggs were hard, the sauces were great, the Chorizo was Mediocre, and the potatoes were great. I loved the decor but the place is so small so its very loud. Found this place on a whim, and you know it's going to be good when there's a wait. Luckily, we didn't wait too long as we opted to sit in their shaded patio. The family seated next to us commended how authentic their food was. The portions are fairly sizeable and very flavorful. These expectations left me suprised by the quiet and modest atmosphere of this cafe. Nothing about this seemed performative. Even the playlist was deeply traditional with authentic picks (I love me some Duelo). None of the many menu items are too loud and quite simple, the way it should be. My cousin, who is picky about her juices, loved the Verde, which had a bright, refreshing flavor without being too tart. My Mexican style French toast with goat milk was one of the best brunch dishes I've had in Houston. Service was fantastic, and paying and separating our check at the counter was easy. When you come here, you literally feel in Mexico! From the cute decor, bilingual staff, and most importantly delicious food!! They have all traditional dishes from Mexico: chilaquiles, molletes, café con sabor a Mazapán! We were very happy with our food, their coffee is delicious and the food comes out very fast. When we left, the restaurant was filled to capacity, but no one waiting. The restaurant is not large (maybe 15 tables). Service was very good - we started out with chips and salsa (they bring a variety with 4 types - the hot is very hot!). Also a Carmelo coffee and a regular coffee. Our breakfast came out quickly. We had the traditional breakfast with sausage and a flour tortilla (instead of bread) and the Tacos de Carnitas (hold the beans). Both very tasty with nice portions. Started with the cafe de coco which I will be thinking about for the next few mornings and the toqueres which were the perfect combination of sweetness from the corn combined with spice of the salsa. Glad to see that after 4 years and again for my birthday, the authentic home style feel of Mexican flavor that is Cielito Cafe, has sustained the trials of time and is busier than my first time here. Nowadays they have troves of people waiting especially on the weekends for breakfast and brunch and for great reason, their consistent friendly service, delicious food offerings and intimate ambiance make it an enjoyable visit. While the parking is a bit tricky, mostly street Monday thru Saturday, Sunday is a bit easier with the parking lot that belongs to the business next to it, (signs says "No Restaurant Parking") I checked and Sunday's are an exception. So you can eat peacefully without the fear of getting a citation or worse, towed. Wish there were more convenient parking offerings around town. Cielito doesn't take reservations on the weekends but you can put your name on the waitlist to have a table. They offer both inside and outside seating. As mentioned it is intimate inside so you are within close proximity to others and each other. Everyone from the hostess, waitress and servers were friendly and attentive. While we waited to be called, we were offered water. The ice in one of the cups had some green in it, looked like lettuce and skipped drinking it. I'm sure they would've gotten us another one, but weren't too bothered to as for another. Once inside, as well as people waiting outside showed it was a full house. We sat down in the back by the kitchen in a nice corner where got to see everything. Everyone interacting and working as a team. On to the real reason you're reading, the affordable food and drinks! Just FYI this is a restaurant where you'll find that the strongest pour is their coffee. Started with Cafe de Coco (non-dairy) - and let me tell you, the way it smoothly and velvety just makes you want to chug it in one gulp, a delightful treat, almost like dessert before you have your meal. For my meal, last time I got the Bandera, I was feeling a little rebellious from the traditional and got the Chilaquiles with red homemade sauce and added chorizo to it. Let's just say being rebellious sometimes pays off, so much so that my mom kept eyeing my plate after I gave her some to try. Mixed with it's avocado, onion, radish, egg (I got mine scrambled) and black beans paired with the fried chips and chorizo and a kick from the red sauce just elevated and balanced the fresh and savory flavors with each bite. Please do not change anything about this plate. (The chorizo is extra, I wanted some type of protein. You can add, bacon or sausage if you want.) If you haven't had the pleasure of enjoying Cielito Cafe, do yourself a favor and stop by, early and with some patience if you're coming on the weekends. They also offer carry out if you're not wanting to wait to dine. I also heard they opened a new location and though I enjoy the original, I will make plans at some point to check the new one out.
