We came at around 11 and it was pretty busy. We waited about 25 minutes for an outside table. The food came out quickly. The coffee was too sweet but not horrible. The omelette was drenched in green salsa and had more cheese than expected. At one point the eggs didn't taste like eggs. The diced potatoes didn't have much flavor. However, what elevated the food was of course combining it. The taco created was delicious! We waited awhile to pay since we weren't aware we had to go inside ourselves until told. read more

This experience was okay. The last time we came, the French toast knocked it out of the park. This time, we tried more of the menu, and it was just fine. Coming early to the cafe meant we didn't have a long wait, which we were happy with. However, I've often seen lines and groups of customers waiting around for some time before getting a spot. I don't mind that the space is small or that it's full - but just be aware that you may have to wait a little at peak hours, outside in the heat. I didn't feel that my molletes breakfast had a balance of flavor. The chorizo tasted bitter and salty, and the toast was soft. I think it would have been better with a crisper toast (so it wasn't all mushy) and with some lime (to counter the saltiness and fattiness). My eggs were cooked perfectly! However, because the molletes were already fatty and salty, the eggs made it nearly inedible - it was better without them though, so I took them off. I chose this place for brunch while visiting my beautiful home city m, H Town! I arrived before my friend and out us on the waitlist. They operate off writing your name on paper and they call your name outside so you may be forced to stand in the elements for your table. We went on a Sunday and the parking lot next door may belong to a business across the street other days of the week? Even then, the lot was full no matter what so luckily I got a space to sit in the car and check our name on the list but parking can be difficult, be prepared! Once we got our table, the inside is very intimate, I found it charming. From our table, I could see the kitchen. Our server was impatient and seemed annoyed we didn't decide fast enough, never refilled our waters, and forgot parts of our meal. That was single handedly the element that tainted some of our experience. I overall enjoyed my food, I was torn between something sweet or savory. I got the Cajeta toast and felt like the serving was perfect. Not too much, not too little and the toast was so good. I would come back again but the waitlist situation could be revised in light that many restaurant do electronic notifications. If one plans to bring someone elderly or disabled, be prepared. Definitely DO NOT RECC going on a Sunday. This was my second time visiting and it was just the complete opposite experience as my first time. I was quoted 40 mins and waited over an hour before I finally decided to just leave. We are forced to wait outside in the heat and they wouldn't even offer to give a call when ready for us so we can sit in the air conditioner. They also have a check mark system- where if you check in with the hostess you get another check mark. However, if you are going on the weekend it can be a long wait, and it's hot out there right now! They don't allow reservations on the weekend so we showed up and put our names on a list, but we learned they had call ahead (not listed on the website) so there were a lot of people not waiting outside on the list before us. Our quoted wait time of 20 minutes was over an hour. Additionally, since there are a lot of people coming in and out, there is a push for you to eat and get out. This morning, we visited Celito Café and absolutely enjoyed our meals. I had the blue tortilla quesadilla with chicharrón, and it was amazing! My husband had the menudo, and aside from the great taste, I really appreciated that the meat was cut into smaller pieces--just like I do at home so my kids don't struggle. That alone deserves five stars! The chilaquiles were packed with flavor and spice--so much so that my daughter eventually said she was just burning her mouth, lol. I've been wanting to try this place for so long and so happy I finally did it! There is usually a big wait but we came around 10 am and the wait was pretty short. It looked like people started waiting a while around 11:30 ish/12. The ambiance is cozy - whether outside or inside. There were some flies outside but they accommodated us with fans which really helped them to stay away. The service was overall a bit slower - so come here if you are not in a rush/can savor and take your time with your meal! Although a bit slower, the workers are all very sweet and nice! The food was great as well! I got sopes with a side of potatoes and really enjoyed both red and green sauces to go with it. The red sauce has a good kick! The cajeta toast was also so delicious. Went on Wednesday morning. Cielito cafe is located in the Montrose area. It is definitely hard to find a park because there is no designated parking space for Cielito Cafe other than available street parking near by. Upon finally getting a parking spot, there were a lot of people on the inside as the place looks like it was a house converted into a restaurant. You will be sitting elbow to elbow if you eat inside the restaurant and it was very loud inside. We decided to place a to-go order. We ordered breakfast tacos. My wife order turkey sausage tacos & i ordered pork sausage tacos. The order took awhile to come out but eventually came out. On our breakfast tacos it was no specification of which one was turkey sausage & which was pork sausage. My wife and I both ate our tacos & tasted each others & they were both pork sausage tacos. My wife cannot eat pork so I went inside to get tell the cashier lady I forgot her name but I believe her name was Mariana. I let her know what happened & she did not argue with me about which one was which but gave me my refund and told me I could keep the food. She only charged me for the lemonade cucumber drink which was so refreshing. The food tasted good though ! The breakfast tacos were fresh, real eggs, homemade tortillas, & fresh sausage (pork). The orange sauce was a great addition as well, it had a bit of spice to it, but nothing overbearing if your not a spice person. The fruit was fresh and the refried black beans were super fresh and refried to perfection. For me the lemonade cucumber drink was the highlight! I might be biased because I love fused drinks. The service is great. The moment I walked in, I felt like I I was walking I to my mexican friends mom's home. The smell of warm food and coffee hits and transports me back there. I truly had higher hopes for this spot. Despite of the numerous recommendations for this restaurant. I do want to start off that the parking is horrible. There's clearly a parking lot right next to the restaurant unfortunately it's for a different business. I had to park on the street if you're lucky to find something nearby. There was no wait time which was great sat inside and greeted right away. Our drink order was taken and appetizer. I wanted their agua fresca of the day and a caramelo (Iced coffee). They ran out of their agua so went in for a Mexican coke. Caramelo was super watered down, no flavor whatsoever. Maybe next time that I give this restaurant another try, I'd have to swing by earlier. Moving on to the appetizer, we got their Chicharrones. Probably the best thing I had there. Fresh out the grease and great crunch to them. Definitely a 10/10. Entrees; Pambazo, first time trying it. I think overall it was super good added chorizo to it. I personally would not get it with chorizo again it was a little salty for my likings. Tres quesadillas azules, we got one of chicken tinga, chicharrón, and chorizo. Out of all three the chicharrón had the best flavor. Chicharrón was in salsa verde and the tortillas were amazing. Now for the tings & chorizo it was okay. Not a fan of tinga as is but didn't lack flavor. I think the chorizo was just overall salty. Enchiladas Michoacánas, this dish was standard. Good flavor but it was cold. I couldn't enjoy it fully. I want to try this spot again like I stated earlier, maybe at an earlier time. Parking, oh well not much you can do about that. The staff were nice, they did check in before closing the kitchen down if we wanted to order more food. Inside is cute and tiny, nothing special. Lovely little trip down memory lane coming here to Cielito Cafe. Reminded me of going to my Tía's restaurant as a kid in the 90's. The converted heritage home on Dunlavy does give you the family feeling when you sit down in what used to be someone's living room. The service was quite quick, as I assume they need to turn tables over quickly since there is very little to no parking for them. It's maybe the one downside, but if you're familiar with the area you kinda expect it. Food was very much what you'd expect from a home cook, and I mean that in a good way. It's the breakfast dishes you grew up with in a Mexican family. There are a good bit of options from heavy to light and savory to sweet. chilaquiles were great and I liked the toastada de aguacate. The establishment itself is cute, and we ordered the regular chilaquiles and the divorciados. Both dishes were fantastic--the flavors were spot on, and the presentation was beautiful. Definitely worth the wait and the price. That said, there are a couple of things I didn't like. The space is super tight, with tables so close together that I ended up overhearing someone else's entire conversation, haha! I had high hopes for this place. Every time I would drive by there would be a huge line and wait to eat there. I went there for brunch, and we were sat in probably the worst spot, especially with two kids. It was cold that day, and they put us at the first table, only a few inches away from the entrance. I would not have minded so much, but the door would literally open every 5 to 10 seconds, nonstop, for the entire duration we were there. It was quite distracting and cold. I think there should not be a table for customers to sit at right close to the door, especially if it's a that high of a traffic area. I ordered the molletes with a sunny side egg. It came out on soggy, not crispy, bread. The egg on top was fried dry, which to me sunny side means runny, but perhaps they made a mistake. I would give it a 2/10. Nonetheless, I was not enjoying any of it. I reluctantly decorated to send it back and even offered to pay for it, I just wanted to eat something I was going to enjoy. The waitress was kind enough to take it back and not let me pay for it, which was a nice gesture. I ended up ordering the green chilaquiles. By this time this pregnant lady was on the verge of hangry, so I forgot to take a picture. I ate it, but was still not impressed. I would give it a 3/5. The plate just lacked overall flavor. It did not a good ratio of egg and salsa to chip crisps either. I hate giving this low of Q score to a place that seems to be pretty popular around here, but both of the plates I ordered were just not good. Definitely not worth waiting for. I'm not knocking off any stars for where they sat us, it's just for the food. I do wish they would consider moving the tables around and not putting a table right next to the door. This place is good but I am not sure why the wait is so crazy every weekend. In case you're not already aware, parking is nonexistent, as the attached parking lot is actually for the Guild Shop. I had the nopalitos, which was scrambled eggs with cactus and ranchera sauce. It came with tortillas (or bread), beans, green salsa, and a tiny fruit cup. Everything was great, and I'd definitely recommend it. My friend also had the chilaquiles, which were good. The oatmeal (avena), was really good, and not your average oatmeal, as it's spiced, sweetened, and topped with fruit and nuts. My favorite part of the meal was the cafe de coco, a coconut flavored coffee. I could have gone for another easily, it was so tasty. Although it was chilly, we sat outside to minimize the wait (even at 8:20 am), because inside was so packed. We tried chilaquiles, avocado toast, breakfast tacos and concha sandwich (Yes a sandwich in a sweet Mexican roll) that was my favorite, arroz con leche dessert was delish and coconut coffee was so good, they also have a really nice selection of aguas frescas, be aware you might have to wait 30 minutes or so to get a table during the weekend, it gets busy and seating is limited.
