I showed her a picture of a color I had seen online and she told me she would try to get it as close to it as possible, well to my surprise it came out exactly the same! I came in to try and make an appointment and get some advice- I got a haircut at hair studio 104 which was a bit of a hack job and left me feeling a lot less beautiful. Raquel was there, and while they werent taking new clients at the salon she decided to look at my hair anyways and sat me right down, fixed it on the spot for me and seriously empathized. Took the advice from fellow yelpers and they were right; Rosie is fantastic! Rosie asked me to tell her about my hair while she inspected it. Rosie then asked me what my vision for my hair was. Rosie then tells you what her vision is from your conversation and voila; the results are perfect. I have fine, straight hair, that has very little body. Results were a cut that added a lot of bounce & body with perfect layers that work wonders for my hair. I've been to a lot of great hair stylists with many styles and this is by far one of the best cuts. It was a beautiful and windy day in Monterey and my hair held up without having to touch it up. Cielo is a peaceful, ambient salon. Rosie is a professional and the service is top notch. I get regular hair coloring/cut service and extensions whenever I feel the urge. I have such trust for Rosie when she is working with my hair that often times I will tell her to just pick the color or cut herself. She is a true artist and never disappoints me. Rosie has been my stylist for several years so I was so excited when I heard Raquel and her were opening Cielo Hair Studio. Rosie is an exceptional stylist because she listens to her customers and she is very professional and personable. My mom, sister and I are all clients of Rosie and even thought we all have different hair textures from wavy, curly and straight, Rosie knows how to cut and style each of us. As a Military spouse finding a good salon when you move so much is difficult and can be hit or miss. Cielo is definitely a HIT!! Very warm welcoming and family feeling. Cute salon set up and friendly, prompt service. Raquel did my hair and I used to get a full base color and then highlights and she suggested I do multiple color highlights- for lower maintenance. I found Cielo Hair Studio shortly after we moved down to Monterey County, and I was looking for a new hair studio. I was impressed with the Yelp reviews, so I called and made an appointment. That was about 2 years ago, and I've been going to Rosie ever since. She does an amazing job with my color, listens to what I have to say about color/style, and does a fantastic job!!! I love the studio, it's a small business, very serene environment, immaculately clean, etc. My daughter also goes to Rosie, and my daughter in law got her VERY long hair cut and styled by Rosie a while back and loves her new, shorter hair. Rosie and Raquel are both professional, fun, friendly, and I highly recommend them!!!!! read more

Cielo has some great reviews, so I took a chance on it. However, this was the least satisfactory salon experience of my life. I was displeased with both my cut and highlights. My hair is not particularly challenging to cut - it's straight and on the fine side. I made the point that I wanted a wash-and-wear cut with no blowdrying and fussing necessary. Of course, in the salon they want you to walk out looking great, so they finished with a blow-dry and light spray. Fine. The cut looked okay, not fantastic. But from the next day on, I found that my hair just wouldn't "sit right". This was a cut that demanded hairspray, gosh darn it, and it was lopsided to boot. In fact, this cut may have been the worst I've had since my sister and I cut each other's hair when we were kids. But at least that one was free. As to the color, I specifically asked for highlights that were natural looking. What I got was pretty chunky. Worse yet, I discovered there was a section on the back of my head where there were no highlights at all! It was very obvious, and I don't know how it could've been missed. It's not as though it was a busy day. I was the only one in the salon. I'm still wondering what went wrong - and where all the great reviews are coming from. Cielo gets one star because the stylist was pleasant and the salon was a nice enough environment. But I can find that somewhere else. read more

GREAT FOR BLONDE HAIR!! I've lived in Monterey for just over a year and since moving away from my hometown in 2006 I have not found a stylist to compare to my girl in Pismo. I lived in Davis previously and failed miserably there and when I moved to Monterey I was determined to find someone that does BLONDE hair without turning it orange! I went to several salons, all who I asked if they were good at blonde hair, all said yes (duh) and then I was disappointed. I was referred to ROSIE by a coworker who has always said wonderful things about her, and she was right. Rose is the ONLY stylist I trust with my hair besides my old stylist. Now I don't have to drive 3 hours to get my hair done, I have confidence to have my hair cut, colored and bleached perfectly every time, and the price is right!! The salon is also nicely decorated, clean and sophisticated without feeling stuffy. Forgot to mention literally minutes after I left the salon I went to Safeway to get something for dinner and the checker said she loved my hair, and I know tomorrow at work (veterinary hospital) I will receive numerous compliments from clients. read more

Loved my haircut and highlights here! It's always challenging to find a new place when you move - but I really felt that Rosie listened to how I normally wear my hair and cut it accordingly. Highlights, shampoo, cut and blow dry took 2 hours and was 165$. I will definitely be going back and am going to make an appointment for my mom the next time she visits. It can take a little while to get an appointment, but it's worth the wait. read more

I would HIGHLY recommend Rosie for a great cut and color. Like most women, I can be a bit ridiculous about my hair. I have been going to Rosie for over a year now and always leave her chair feeling like a million bucks. I get compliments all the time on my hair. Rosie is friendly, professional and is an amazing hair stylist. The salon is adorable, quaint and inviting. There is plenty of free street parking. I was in town for my son's wedding in Carmel Valley a couple of weeks ago, and I had no idea who was going to do my hair. I found this salon on Yelp and picked it for their 5 star rating - they did NOT disappoint! They were sweet enough to take me in last minute, and asked me to come with my hair washed/dry and ready to set, which I did. She (not sure which of the ladies, so sorry) created a beautiful masterpiece in just 30 minutes...it looked beautiful and lasted all day - I had so many compliments too! I have to concur with the other 5-star reviews. I have been trying for a couple of years to get a really good haircut in the area, which shouldn't be too hard since I'm a guy. But I've been to Aveda salons and others, and never really got what I wanted. This week I got my hair cut by Rosie and she did a fantastic job -- exactly what I was looking for, and similar to the cuts I used to get when I lived in Europe. My experience at this salon was not good. The stylist was not listening to me. This was proven not only by the cut I received, but also because I explained to her that I had virgin, unprocessed hair - no dye, no perm, no heat styling - and further I told her that my hair began to grow in grey when my husband unexpectedly died. Yet, halfway through the haircut she asked me when I stopped coloring my hair. Failure to listen is a serious flaw in a stylist. Not only does she need to be great with the scissors, but more importantly she needs to be an excellent listener. I have naturally wavy hair and the shorter it is cut, the curlier it gets. When I went into the salon it was all one length to the elbow and the stylist could not readily see how curly and voluminous it would become as it was cut. I told her it was like that, but she did not listen and she was surprised how "big" it was afterward. She did not cut it accounting for the curl even though I told her that it would curl up the more it was cut and layered. I went to this salon on the basis of these yelp ratings too, and so I want to put my experience down to warn others that this salon is not some magical place where you will be transformed. For some, maybe. For me? Not at all. read more

Wish I could've actually tried their services to review. I sent an email explaining that I was getting married on June 9th and I was looking to get a cut/color/style. Explained what I wanted and inquired whether they do this service. I don't want a cut/color the DAY of my wedding. I wanted to schedule a couple days prior and see about scheduling the styling for the 9th. In the response I received I didn't get any of my questions answered and was just told they were unavailable on the 9th. No offer to assist or even address my questions or suggest another date or anything. So I'll be looking for other stylists who want the business. read more

She did a wonderful job, and for the first time EVER I left loving my hair and not feeling like I needed to go home and "fix" it or style it differently. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she got it dead on. LOVE it! The studio was cozy and clean, the customer service was great (Raquel's sister, who was working the front desk that day, was very friendly and attentive also), and I personally thought the price was very reasonable.
