I emailed Ohlone Cigar and explained my situation. Jeb replied back with the most welcoming response. He told me to give him a time I wanted to stop by and he would accommodate his shop for my party. Dont forget the Whiskey! The day of, we arrived in a party bus, full from a Brazilian steakhouse lunch in Frisco. Nothing else sounds better than a cigar and glass of Whiskey! Once we arrive, Jeb greets us at the front door. He introduces himself and guides us to the back, where he reserved a nice area for my group. For majority of us, this was our first time. Jeb and his team brought out a bucket of ice and 10 glasses for our Whiskey! They brought us back in groups and really took the time to explain the types and styles of cigars, and what would match best with our bottle of Hibiki. I'm a seasoned cigar vet that's been smoking for over 20 years and just wanted something new. After paying close to $100, I go home and decide to fire one up. I cut my cigar with a double guillotine and there's this long, fine, orange plastic strand that popped out. As I examined it further, I pulled it out and realized it was plastic deeply embedded in the filler. That strand was connected to another one so I pulled that one out too. I tossed it out of concern for my health and I immediately called the shop. No answer so I left a voice mail explaining what had happened and asked to be called back. That didn't happen. Given I had positive experiences up to this point, I thought I'd give them one more opportunity to address the situation. I called again and got someone on the phone. I explained that I found plastic embedded in one of the cigars I bought there and that I was concerned that maybe they were sold a bad batch from the manufacturer and it could be a health risk to other customers. The gentleman, although professional, did not come across as overly concerned. He just apologized and after I went into my concern about the health risk again, it wasn't until then that he asked me which cigar I bought. We then ended the call with not much else offered than his awareness. I don't expect a shop to throw out a whole box of cigars on account of my word but I do expect them to do something or atleast convey they are taking my concerns seriously. I thought at the very least, he could've offered a store credit, offered to inspect the box himself or something but the response I got was that he was unbothered. Maybe they will take action but the lack of certainty and dismissive tone is why I won't be returning. They give good service and everyone I have encountered in that shop has always been polite and respectful but this has created a trust issue. Getting bad batches is out of the shop's control but how a shop responds is. If you go here, I think you'll be fine but should you notice anything, flag it immediately.
