We came here after giving up on the long wait at a better Mexican food establishment called 1800. Which is what we should've stuck with. Told the waiter one of our party had a birthday that day. He was like oh ok whatever as if we told him the weather!! Food was bland at best and we were served the most overpriced beer $10 for a pint and $11 for Helotes which is just 3 ears of corn on the cob with ZERO flavor. Ice tea tasted like unsweetened dirty water and their water is obviously unfiltered from the tap. The soft drinks were flat and the salsa tastes like ketchup. The cheese dip is tiny about a 4 oz bowl and costs $8. Not only was it overpriced it was cold and had no jalepenos in it. Total bill was $75 with tip for the worst Mexican food and smallest plates we've ever had. Place looks like a dump outside as well. I think this is one instance we should've judged the book by its cover. We had the fajita guacamole bowl. It's fantastic. Highly recommended. The second time I've been here and the second time I received the same meal and it was very consistent. Service was excellent. Nice atmosphere and great staff just add to the wonderful taste of the food. They have many entrees with the melted queso cheese topping them. Que Horrible!! Guacamole was not freshly made - it tasted processed like it was from the grocery store with a preservative flavor and aftertaste. The special of the day shrimp tacos looked nothing like the grilled shrimp pictured at Hostess stand, instead they were frozen and mealy and covered in iceberg lettuce and a strange Mayo sauce on side. Rice and re fried beans were good, waitress Ana Karen was very polite and sweet, the salsa was good too. The male server who brought the food was curt and unfriendly, unceremoniously plopped my good down in front of me and disappeared into the kitchen. The food was horrible, starting with stale chips, we sent back the queso as it was cold (if you order queso with japs - they are raw - sliced on the side, not in the dip- odd. Sliced avocado is extra $. There is a game room in there so be prepared for kids running around (good for families while drinking). I just can't imagine - if you are on vacation - skip this place.
