These 3 stars are based solely on the food. The staff are super friendly, and the restaurant is a good size for dinner or even for parties! They have a whole over level you can also rent out for large events. It's a fun and cozy vibe. I went with my co-workers and between the 8 of us we all rated the food about a 3 out of 5, it wasn't bad but wasn't the best any of us have ever had either. Went midday with a friend to finally try out the food and was rather disappointed. The customer service was sub par and our orders got mixed up even though the establishment was empty. Food was incredibly bland, not appealing and tasted frozen. It was also rather hot inside the building as well. When I brought up my insights to the server he became annoyed and began to make excuses. Would not recommend. read more

Called in and ordered a breakfast burrito for pickup. When I came in and paid, I noticed that the due amount was nearly three dollars more than expected. The waiter said that the online menu had not been adjusted to show the correct prices. I said that I understood since everything's getting more expensive and paid. While waiting for my food to be done, I picked up a menu to compare and noticed that it was exactly the same. I pointed this out to the waiter and he sort of rolled his eyes and walked past me. Staff is very friendly and welcoming which is why I gave it more than one star, but unfortunately the food wasn't good at all. The meat was very tough to chew and had no flavor. As for the enchilada, well the picture tells it all. Almost no cheese anywhere on my plate. Enchiladas are supposed to be filled with cheese and all this was was a wet tortilla filled with nasty tough meat. If it wasn't for me being starving I wouldn't have finished my plate. Okay so I will start off by saying that the restaurant is very clean and staff is so kind and very helpful. But I will have to say that I was disappointed with the food unfortunately, I went in with high hopes of getting some delicious birria tacos and they ended up being edible but not good. Very little flavor and barely any cheese, like I said it wasn't gross but not good enough that I'd go back and try again. It's a good spot on J, and thankfully no homeless tents nearby even though it's getting worse downtown with drug addicts and psych patients living on the streets. But I digress. Back to the food. They have lunch specials with beans and rice and a drink included for less than $10. I'm used to paying $15-$25 just for lunch and sometimes not even get a drink with that. My coworker and I eat here AT LEAST 2 times a week. Considering there is not many Mexican restaurants walking distance, Cilantro's has been our Go-To. Unfortunately the last few times we've ordered, our order has been wrong, items missing (like sour cream, that we pay extra for) and quality has never been consistent. When I call for the lunch special, i'm told something completely different than what is posted on the wall when I walk in to pick up. Also, When ordering online you can only add ONE additional item and they will charge for any substitutions. read more

I tried their Friday buffet. It seems so appetizing: For only twelve bucks it's All-the-Mexican food you can eat. That is until I saw the buffet. A server serves the food to you. You can't help yourself to what foods you want to eat and he limits the portions. One taco per person per visit. He was confrontational. On my first trip to the buffet, he looked at me suspiciously and asked, "Did you pay for the buffet?" I offered to show him my receipt. The buffet is limited: Chicken fajitas, rice, beans, tacos, and huevos rancheros and it seemed the server was filling my plate with the cheapest items, beans and rice. On my final trip to the buffet, he flagged me down and said, "Hey, yo!" to stop me from serving myself. Cilantro's doesn't want customers to serve themselves because they'll take too much food, not finish it, and Cilantro's loses money but I don't think they should worry about that because the buffet selection was thin. For twelve bucks I was expecting Wowsville but left feeling underwhelmed. Won't be going back for seconds at Cilantro's. read more
