I could not go another day without some nail help! With some trepidation, I made my appointment - I've been fortunate to be able to time my manicures with my regular manicurist and not have to try someone new, which can be very traumatic! Yelp! reviewers were right on...I had an easy time making an appointment that fit my schedule, the staff were helpful and pleasant. Sally did a great job on my nails, if not exactly the way I'm used to having them done. I'm allowing for that difference, and where I might give 3 stars, I'm upgrading to 4 stars because it was such a smooth, stress-free experience. Still, couldn't help feeling like a member of the cattle call. The late hours (open until 9:30!) sound like they'll come in handy, though. Came here once to get a French Manicure & a change of Toe Polish. I loved everything about my experience here (& also my nail polish lasted almost 1-2 weeks & toe polish lasted about 3 weeks). The hostess & owner were both very nice & friendly & I would definitely go back. Everything was clean & the store's space was pretty roomy. The ONLY gripe I had was about my technician, Katty. She was unnecessarily impatient & snippy with me from the moment I sat down at her station (which I did NOT deserve because I was nothing but nice & polite to her). She was briefly nicer to me only when it was time for payment & tipping (Note: Based on her attitude, I shouldn't have tipped her, but I wound up doing so because she did do an excellent job on my nails). This & when she was done were the only times she was semi-pleasant. Examples: - Unbeknownst to me, my thumb decided to think for itself & flex upwards without me telling it to. Katty was not amused & snapped/hissed at me to "Please! Just ... stop moving thumb!". - After she changed my toe polish & moved me to the dryers, being the spazz that I am, I accidentally swiped my toes on the dryer & ruined 2 of the toes' polish. She was so visibly annoyed/agitated that she did not respond when I apologized & had a sullen, pissed-off look on her face as she re-did the two toes. The only way I would not come back here is if I only got Katty each time I came. Aside from this blip, I was very happy with the results of my treatments. My daughter and I have been customers for approximately 12 years and are truly enamored by the care and professionalism we have experienced at Cindy's during these years. We are now approaching the first anniversary since the reopening after Covid-19 restrictions were eased. The care with which they have placed dividers, instilled thorough disinfection practices after every client and temperature checks are truly the sign of the best and safest service you can receive. Got in last minute on a Friday night. I liked certain details - they give you a box to put your purse it so it doesn't touch the ground but overall the experience was just decent enough but not amazing. The girl who did my manicure was sweet and did a decent job. The polish was more of a light neutral and looked nice but there were a few imperfections, if I need to quibble. That said, the girl was willing to fix it up when I bought it to her attention. My only peeve was I was taken to the nail drying station but nobody told me how long I was supposed to sit there. The employees all seemed to be heading out and it was hard to get their attention to find out. No matter...the manicure lasted about a week. Not sure I'm dying to go back but it was fine. Since I am not a native NY'er and only spend 2 months here, I don't know the ends and outs of good vs bad nail salons. My hair dresser at K's Salon pointed me to this salon. Not bad. Did not wait on a busy day there. I like that they have these little canvas baskets that they carry your junk in and then go to work on the feet and hands. I have had both the Package with mani/pedi and 20 minute massage. It was a life saver! Today I just had a regular mani/pedi and still the service was great. The price with tax $29.50. At home in Long Beach, Calif, I have to pay about $25.00 but for much less service. Definitely a place to go for great service and reasonable prices. read more

I knew I wanted to try Cindy's as soon as I saw it while walking down Amsterdam Ave one day. Bright, clean, and spacious; it looked like a great place to relax and give my hands and feet a little TLC. I have to say I wasn't very impressed with the pedicure I recieved. The chair they sat me in was broken- part of the fun in getting a pedi is the back massage!- so that was disillusioning. It was my first visit of the season and my feet really needed some attention. I just didn't feel like my technician did a thorough enough job scrubbing, especially around the heels. The foot/leg massage was also virtually nonexistent. It definitely wasn't busy enough for them to justify not taking good care of my poor little feetsies. Very sad. I had originally also wanted a mani, but opted out based on the lack of variety they had in their polish colors. I'm okay with going bright on the toes, but my fingernails always have to be dark, and there wasn't much to choose from. Had I known, I would have brought my own color. Anyone headed in, keep in mind that they charge extra for pedicures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you can, go early in the week- I wouldn't pay the extra money to come here just because of the date- or find somewhere else that can probably do better for cheaper. read more

Cindy's has been my neighborhood go-to for mani/pedi for 5+years. (when they were on W 83rd and then both spots for a while.. Very clean and professional. They always greet with a smile and will fit you in. I haven't personally had any issue. In fact I think they do a great job of not making you feel rushed, which happens at some spots. I feel like it's a step above the quick $20 shops in but not the $50 Pinky's madness. I'd like a little less expensive but who doesn't?! Particularly because it seems it doesn't matter the price - a manicure just doesn't last like it should. One note on the chair massage - it all depends on who does your nails to then who does the massage. In a word: "Meh." My friend and I booked a mani/pedi together and yet they seemed kinda shocked that we'd want to sit near each other (specifically next to each other). When we made the reservation it was clear we were coming in together. We were taken the the lower level and still no seats available together and since they seemed eager to get us through, they made us take the seats avail (instead of waiting for some to open up). This was one of the fastest mani/pedi's I've had in years. Usually there's a lot of scrubbing and massaging. Barely happened. The total was just under $30 and I tipped $6 in cash (which is the only way they accept tips, but to their credit, there is an ATM in the shop in case you forget). I had just gotten up and snagged a small corner of my nail. I asked her if she could fix it and she ROLLED HER EYES at me, grabbed my hand, fixed it then stomped away without a word. I was just sorta left in shock. So I won't be back to Cindy's. They are a clean shop, but I'd rather save the $36 and do it myself. read more

I will never be back here. If I could give them a zero I would. This lady (the manager or owner, not sure) is Korean and she doesn't know it cause I don't look Korean but so am I and I understand what she's saying. The lady doing my pedicure was already very rough and going fast and not being careful but then the owner comes over and tells her in Korean to hurry up and get me done fast. When you're providing a service like this, even if you have other customers waiting you should put 100% effort into it and do your best. That's not what I got here. Worst customer experience in my life, I'm not exaggerating. The owner was brusque and rude when I came in get my nails done but I didn't think that was enough to write a review. The paint job was very poorly done, but the manicurist doing it was nice so again, didn't want to complain and tipped her per custom. My out-of-town sister was made to bleed by her manicurist, but still we didn't say anything because the girl was sweet and apologized. What really got to me was when my sister, now having left NY, forgot her earmuffs at the store and I had to go get it the next week. The owner wouldn't attend to me and told me to "just wait" while she did a paint job. I stood at the door waiting, but when she and I make eye contact, she flips out and tells me "can't you see I am busy, just wait!" I was so bewildered that all I could say was "ok, so how long is the wait" to which she flips out. "STOP RUSHING ME! IF YOU WANT IT, GO GET IT YOURSELF. GO, IT'S THERE!" I got the earmuffs (not sure why I couldn't have done that in the first place) and told her I didn't understand why she yelled at me and she KICKED ME OUT. She actually said/screamed, "STOP TALKING, JUST GET OUT AND DON'T COME BACK." I'm still not sure what the hell happened back there. read more

I lived in 3 different countries and in all of my experience in life this was be far the most NASTY and ARROGANT service I have ever received in my entire life. I have never been so mistreated. The people were incredibly rude and the service was awful. I went there to fix 2 broken acrylic nails. The reception at first was nice but once I was introduced to a lady named Sally. I've never seen such arrogance just because I asked to do these 2 broken nails first and then I might do the other nails after. From there she started whispering about me in an aggressive way with her colleague like i offended the queen of nails in NYC. Pushing my hands in aggressive way of course with her "accommodating" behavior my reaction wasn't the most comfortable. She pushed my hands aggressively and said looking with an angry face, "relax!"  I responded how about you relax then your customers will relax for sure. The technician said about her self "I am the best in NY and how dare you to actually want to see the job," which was clearly the worst offense someone could do to ask to see the job before deciding to do the whole job that would cost almost $100 plus more time.  First I wasn't sure about this place because I have someone nice and kind who does a great job always, this was just an emergency so I just asked to see the 2 broken nails fixed and then maybe I'd do the rest because I was not sure I had enough time to have the whole nails done.  NASTY AND ARROGANT behavior from the technician and not even try to talk with those sad, rude and mean people I ever saw in my life. They should be aware and be careful they not remembering that offending people like this could cost then a high price and even a lawsuit for emotional distress. The worse nightmare!!! read more

$46 for a 10 minute chair massage, eyebrow wax, and mani/ped. Not bad in my opinion for the UWS. This place is extremely bright and clean and the staff is very attentive. I never felt rushed. I wished they would've gone to town on my feet a little more...and I was tempted to yell "WAKE UP, LADY!" but instead I asked her to redo the callous thing twice. She seemed a little bothered. Also, please note if you opt for a 10 minute chair massage it is worth it but don't be surprised when your bra is unhooked without being asked first. Your shirt might be lifted to a skintimate level while you're hunched over with your face in the little hole chair. I would've been cool with this, but it was in main salon area and men use this place too. I'm not giving away any cheap thrills! Anyway, back when I lived in the east village, I would get mani/pedis at dark dirty dumps for like $19...so for an extra $5 you get cleanliness and a place where there is a no cell phone talking policy. DIRTY AND INCONSIDERATE I've visited Cindy's a few times over the years, and it is now clear that the place has completely fallen apart. The management is rude and doesn't honor appointments and the nail technicians are sloppy and inexperienced. The last time I was there, which will be my last time ever, I had to wait 30+ minutes, despite having a confirmed appointment, and the manicurist couldn't even paint within the lines. But perhaps worst of all, the tools and equipment are completely unhygienic. While I was drying, I watched them use the same tools on customer after customer without ever cleaning them. Oh, and that "credit card minimum" that they impose? They are the only nail salon in the neighborhood to nickel and dime their customers like that. Their policy demonstrates how little they value their customers, which is also apparent from their rushed attitude once you get inside. Seriously, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Worst. Manicure. Ever. I often find myself at Cindy's, because I once had an amazing experience with my coworker with their Package A and have been trying to replicate it. But I've given them so many chances over the past 4 years and they keep messing them up. The last straw was a few weeks ago, when I came in from a desperately-needed chair massage. It was okay, nothing spectacular, but relaxed me enough that I decided to spring for a manicure. I picked out a deep purple plum color and sat down with a woman who, very quickly, showed she had no idea what she was doing. She would start to do one thing, then realize she was supposed to do another, and I almost wanted to reach over the table and point out what she was supposed to be using. She used nail polish remover for ALL the steps, including the ones where you're supposed to use cuticle oil/remover, and barely pushed my cuticles back at all. I could tell this was going to be a problem. I've had dozens of manicures. I know what you need to do and not do. So when I request that the technician not cut my cuticles, I know that they'll need to push them back in order to apply the color evenly. Did she do this? Barely. Did she clean up any of the polish on the side, front, and corner of my nail? No. I asked her multiple times to do so, and by the end she was claiming she couldn't see any of the polish there, even though it was dark purple and I am definitely not a purple-skinned individual. I asked the owner to please just let me remove it all, and I would go, because this entire experience was stressing me out. She exhorted me to stay and sit down and have someone else redo it because my tech "wasn't understanding what I wanted." Okay, I said, giving them the benefit of the doubt, maybe this woman is new and doesn't speak English great. Maybe she just doesn't know that manicures are supposed to end up with polish on my nail and not the rest of my hand. While I sit down with a new woman, the old tech hovered behind and muttered in Spanish "it's because she didn't want to cut the cuticles." Wow. Okay, first of all, woman, Spanish is not that uncommon of a language for people to understand here. And second of all, No. It is entirely possible to do a neat manicure without trimming the cuticles at the bottom. See: my past 12 manicures. So this new woman takes off all of the polish, and before I know it, she's cutting my cuticles. All of them. Side and bottom, and I ask her very clearly to stop. "Just a little, just a little, you need" she says. I should have just gotten up and walked out of there, but it was a quiet night and I was trying not to disturb the other women (hopefully) getting their relaxation on. So what naturally happens next? She snips too deep and causes me to bleed. That was it. I was out of there. She tried to still staunch the bleeding, and the owner tried to tell me it was just a little bit, no problem, sit back down, but seriously? I asked you not to do something, you did, and now I'm bleeding. I feel bad for disturbing everyone else in the salon, but really, please just let me go. I even threw down a tip on my already paid-for manicure for their trouble. The woman tries to give me a coupon for coming back the next day for color application, but never. again. read more

Wow. Talk about a manicurist with angst! For my 3rd visit, I took my friend's recommendation to see this woman (don't want to be too mean and call her out) and boy was she grumpy and angry. She also told me about how Chinese people don't give tips but that Americans do. (Why? She knows that I'm American-Chinese). The 2nd time I went, the manicurist wasn't technically good. My coworker and I had our end of the academic year event to go to (we work at a school) and decided to get our nails done. I have never gotten a manicure or pedicure in my life :o so it was exciting!!! I used yelp to find a place on the upper west side and we settled on Cindy's. Walked in around 5:30pm, no wait, picked out our colors, got in the massage chairs for our pedicures... So girly!! I loved it! No pain at any point, just a bit ticklish sometimes. Overall, it only took maybe 40 minutes to get both done. We thought they could have gone a little slower, but we were satisfied. My nails are still lookin pretty good and I've had them done for 5 days now! Barely changed at all actually... I have pretty strong nails though so maybe that helps. read more

I've been going to Cindy's on and off for a couple years and generally have had good experiences. This time it was the worst. I came with a friend and my daughter and explained that we had limited time. The managers assured us that they had available technicians and rushed us downstairs to an isolated space with three chairs set up. We sat waiting for about 10 minutes until technicians came down. They rushed through my pedicure in less than 10 minutes and then rushed through my daughters finishing both of us in less the time than it took my friend to have hers done (plus, the baths were dirty and old and didn't drain properly - ugh). When I got the bill and was charged full price for what seemed to be a 2 in 1 I decided to speak to the manager to see if she would be understanding and re-consider the charge. SInce I've had good experiences I was sure they would handle it properly. No way. Both of the women turned within the blink of an eye from smiley and happy to aggressive and attacking. It was unbelievable. I think they would have clawed my eyes out if they could've. Just shows that what might seem to be a nice neighborhood spot isn't. Clean, but an hour after I got the OPI shellac polish and had it dried, it was still gooey and everything came off as I was carrying grocery bags home. Horrible! Do not go here. I have never written a review on any media site but my experience here was so bad that I feel obligated to. I just left this nail salon bleeding. I went in for a basic manicure and the woman who helped me pushed my cuticles back so far it was horribly painful. She then starting cutting my cuticles aggressively and was so careless I started bleeding on 2 fingers. I asked the manager at the front to switch to a different person and she came over to help me herself. She said she tells the girls not to cut cuticles so aggressively because clients get infections. She then tried to fix what had been done to me but it was too bad and she couldn't. She offered to put an antibiotic ointment on my cuticles to try and prevent infection. Then when I mentioned that there were still pieces of jagged skin hanging off and it was very painful she became very rude. I decided it was time to leave and that I would not pay for the manicure (which never got further than them destroying my cuticles anyway). The manager insisted I pay and then told me to leave rather than trying to help me with my bleeding fingers. I am so disappointed that I plan to find out who the owner is of this establishment and write a letter. After this experience I saw numerous reviews for this place and they are almost all horrible. I hope the owners know how much revenue they are losing from clients given this terrible service. read more

There's a reason you've been in the neighborhood well over a decade when everything else seems to be replaced by chase bank or Duane Reade. People work hard, well I do. I went for a mani/pedi on Sunday afternoon around 4pm. Salon was busy but we got started within a few minutes. It was evident that the stylists were rushing and taking shortcuts in order to get clients done more quickly and out of there to take in new people. They didn't even clean or scrub the foot baths in between people!!!! For my pedi she didn't cut my nails or cuticles so she totally gipped me on the "pedi" and it was basically a polish job. For my mani she didn't shape my nails as requested and they were very uneven --- some different lengths, etc. what a hackjob!! I had to ask her to go back and file some of them again. She did the lazy trick where she didn't even try to get the color all the way down the side of my nails so there are bare "stripes" on the sides.....lastly the clear top coat was GLOBBED on, not even stroked smooth and i was left with an uneven finish from that. I was pleased with the service until treated by a technician who attends to those customers seeking silk wraps. Although skilled, the woman is always rude and disrespectful to her customers, and management chooses to do nothing about it. If you are seeking an unpleasant experience, this is the place to go.
