The food here is amazing. Some of the best pasta we've had anywhere (including Italy). My wife ordered the bucatini and the sauce had so much depth of flavor. I ordered the breakfast burrito with lobster and it's such a unique burrito. It was also really tasty. Their secret sauce cuts through the normal heaviness of bacon and egg. They also crisp up the outside giving another layer of texture. The service was so welcoming and informative. Now it is more pricey but you're paying for taste and quality. Best Italian/Peruvian food I've ever had in the United States. I come back here every time I'm on the Big Island. They have breakfast and lunch! I always get the ravioli. This time we got the short rib ravioli, ceviche, pasta puttanesca, burrata, and kale salad. Everything was excellent as usual. Doesn't look like much driving by, but what mattered much was great- Food, drinks, dessert, and service was all delightful. Daughter had the lilikoi tea which was refreshing and not too sweet and I had the lilikoi martini also not too sweet but very generous with the alcohol which I do like. We shared the Kauai shrimp bucatini, mahi mahi ceviche, and the gluten free chocolate cake. It was all great tasting, light, and very much fresh. I wrote out a long detailed review but accidentally deleted it so this will be brief. Gnocchi was $35 and totally plain and not any good. Shrimp bucatini had 3 shrimp which is alright but wasnt much good either. Service is gruff and not pleasant. Beer is $16 a bottle, not even draft. Mimosa was tiny for $15 (they charged me 16 for whatever reason). Ambiance is nonexistent as its in an industrial area by some silos and a main road. Overall very very unfulfilling. No clue why they are highly rated and we definitely would not recommend stopping in. Wish we just got grass fed beef sandwiches or something in Howi instead for a quarter of the price. read more

As a family who dines out quite a bit, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and authenticity of this little hidden gem, just north of the popular resorts. We ordered cioppino, squid ink pasta, and four cheese ravioli for our main course and the burrata/mortadella plate for our starter along with some short rib ravioli. All were excellent! I think we surprised the owner when our seven-year-old son ordered a second plate of ravioli because they were so good he needed three more! The menu options and specials were entertainingly and exuberantly detailed by Claudia Cipriano, co-owner (along with Gino Cipriano, Chef--though Claudia also graduated from Cordon Bleu). We (four of us) started with Pisco Chilcano drinks and a Taro Latte (super smooth and just the right amount of taro taste) and a Red Corn Lemonade. Each was delicious and perfectly blended. We enjoyed the special octopus ceviche, Kauai shrimp Bucatini, Peruvian Pork Belly Sandwich, Puttanesca with octopus, and gnocchi with lobster. All the flavorful pasta is made from scratch and the seafood fresh and local. The octopus in the ceviche almost melted in your mouth and on the Puttanesca was tender on the inside but crispy on the out. We finished with an amazing tiramisu. The food..we got a special black squid ink pasta and added octopus (5/5), ceviche special (delicious and so fresh), and the kale salad (5/5). The ingredients were fresh and they make their own pasta and bread. We went a 2nd time and got the panzanella (5/5), special ravioli (5/5), and the Cioppino added octopus (5/5). Honestly do yourself a favor and add the octopus, it's the best prepared I've ever had. Dessert was the almond chocolate cake and got lilikoi gelato the perfect pair. They were only going to be open for another 20 minutes, but took our party of 4 in anyways! And, what a meal it was. After shopping art at the Harbor Gallery, My wife and I stumbled upon this absolute GEM on our last day at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort. Amazingly friendly family owned business where the husband and wife are decades as established chefs and Italian and Peruvian Gourmands. The husband is the chef who is so professional while the wife runs then house with a strict kindness and grace. I had the Cacio de Pepe and my wife had the Lobster Fra Diavolomboth where delicious and so authentic with the homemade past, and a lot of LOVE. We shall retry to go there twice upon our next one week stay at Mauna Kea. Open breakfast lunch and dinner with RESERVATIONS required for lunch and dinner. I dream of the Cacio de Pepe. read more

Well, I could prob rate this place 5 stars on Claudia's charisma alone but that wouldn't be fair because the food was excellent. We went in early for breakfast and got a full description of the menu from Claudia - a foodie describing to foodies (my daughter and husband). I am the coffee/cocktail snob and my son goes out to eat to 'get full.' All 4 of us left super happy. We got: Cipriano's Spritz (related to Aperol spritz but better), Horchata latte iced (YUM), Breakfast Bruschettas - homemade focaccia, applewood bacon cut up in the eggs (perfect), Kauai Shrimp Bucatini (picky son's first experience with shrimp - went well) Fugazza - very tasty says husband and various pastries - that were eaten while still full because we couldn't wait. Oh, can't forget the cannoli ... man.. the lilikoi/passionfruit cream came on it's own to put into it. I tried to keep us classy and under the radar as we fought each other over it. Misleading. Overpriced. Disappointing It's mostly Italian food with a couple of Peruvian dishes. The "Panzanella" was literally a pile of tomatoes sitting in a pool of olive oil with almost none of the advertised cheese or bread crumbs. Claudia even admitted the menu was out of date and didn't properly reflect the dishes or sources of produce. Everything we ordered was well prepared and tasted good, but not nearly worth the price. Good, but not WOW! The service was fine. The location has poor ambience and no view (next to a busy road facing a refinery). Not really sure where the cost is going when there only seemed to be 3, maybe 4 employees... This was easily our most expensive meal during a week of eating out all across the big island, and was also our least favorite. read more

Service 2.5 Ambiance 1 Food 4 Excellent homemade pasta and seafood cooked perfectly. Delicious and large inventive kale salad. Top quality ingredients and care in preparation. Cipriano's Kitchen is the ONLY place ever to get a cannoli right- unfilled adorning a gorgeous, tangy, flavorful mousse. Bravo!! Ambiance, service, and pricing left A LOT to be desired. Location is a bummer. Seating is all porch, adjacent to either the parking lot or busy road. We were seated right in front of the entrance doors so our chairs and table bounced when anyone walked by and as the servers went in and out of the kitchen. My view was the road and shipping containers across the street. We moved ourselves down one table where the street was blocked by more trees and that made it a bit better. Shades and decorative lighting helped slightly. Upon arrival, we weren't sure where to go. A woman yelled out from a table to check in at the front gesturing around the corner (she turned out to be one of the owners). We went inside and no one was there. Waited a few minutes. A young lady who ended up being our server asked FIRST: "Do you have a reservation? What's the time and your name?" Not "welcome" or "aloha". The rest of the meal we were addressed as "you guys". "We have burrata and mortadella, do you guys know what that is?" "Do you guys know what you want?" We ordered the burrata and mortadella plate with the famed focaccia, kale salad, squid ink pasta with seafood, and Lilikoi mousse. The first two came out together so we each took one and then switched. The owner came by and asked the two younger servers to please bring us plates. The burrata was delicious with olive oil but a touch over salted. Mortadella likens itself to bologna, we'd have preferred prosciutto, coppa, or bresaola. The focaccia was fine, very crunchy, not tangy as expected for the multi-day proofing. The salad was large, inventive and delicious ($22). While the squid ink pasta was outstanding, a smooth, slightly spicy tomato sauce (which mystified our server as how to describe it, "like a thick cioppino") and the seafood was cooked well, it just didn't seem like an $85 dish. The lillikoi mousse was the star of the meal. If the owners attended to us, it would have been so much better. Unfortunately, we experienced fair service and the sound of cars roaring by the whole meal. We had a salad, one appetizer, 3 glasses of wine, one entree, and one dessert. This cost 50% more than our fine dining experience at another restaurant earlier in the week inside a lovely appointed dining room, white tablecloths, 5* service, two appetizers, two entrees, two glasses of wine, and a dessert. No need to dress up, it's super casual, come as you are. We really appreciate small business and the effort to bring outstanding food to the island. read more
