It was a pleasure having Steve & the Circle Star crew work on my 1981 Mercedes 280SL Roadster yesterday. Turns out, it wasn't as simple as new brake pads- I had a leaking caliper, the front rotors were ground down to the sensors and what not. Steve worked with me to present a few solutions, all good ones to get the Benz back in shape. Shaken and distraught after getting into a severe car accident on my way to the airport, the tow service wanted to take me and my accordion of a car to some unfamiliar auto body repair shop near LAX, after informing me that the car might possibly get totaled or be close to it. Thank heaven I was too overwhelmed, in shock and had them take me back to my apartment on the Westside. After taking a deep breath, two Tylenol and a good nights sleep, I was still dazed and confused. What and where was I going to go and who was going to explain and help me handle what was destined to be a nightmare. I wanted to get back into bed and put the covers over my head. THE BEST DECISION I MADE WAS TO GET MY CAR TO CIRCLE STAR IN VAN NUYS !!!! After speaking with Steve, he reassured me and talked me off the ledge. He had it towed to his shop, and he evaluated the damage by the next day, handling everything with the insurance company. He followed up with me each step of the way, and after every conversation with each of the adjusters. Bottom line is this man is undoubtedly the best of the bunch, HE is top banana for sure! I am so appreciative to him for not only holding my hand through the entire process, but insuring that by the time I got my car back (a month later) it was in pristine condition. Steve always wanted to make sure I understood what was happening, and couldn't be more patient if I had a million questions. When I went to pick up my car, upon re-examination he noticed there was some rubber stripping that had been part of the repairs but was damaged during installation. Wow! Where do I start. I brought my car to the shop because My Coolant System was leaking and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I knew bringing my car to any mechanic without calling or having an appointment would be a problem. I pulled in to the shop and was approached by one of the workers at the shop and he asked me a few questions about my car and told me to Leave the car here and he'll give me a call in about an hour to tell me what exactly is wrong. I could've waited at the shop but I needed to get to work so before I was going to call an Uber, the worker insisted that he'll take me to work and not to worry. An hour goes by an the owner Steve calls me and tells me in detail what happened with my car and told me what he needed to do to fix it. I agree to the work and he told me it should be ready in 2hours. I get back to the shop and my car is ready and there are no surprises. Steve showed me in detail what happened to my car and the parts he replaced. He also fixed a couple issues with my headlights. If you are looking for a nice warm chocolate chip cookie while you wait for your car to be serviced, go to another shop. That cookie will probably cost you $500 in overpriced parts and service charges when all is said and done. If you want honest mechanics that actually fix your car at extremely fair prices, Steve Sloan and his crew is your choice. His garage is not the biggest place and could use some tidying up, but the quality of the work is quite excellent. As far as the all-important price factor: I checked his quote against sources online and he came in under all of them, including repairpal.com. My total bill came in a bit higher than my initial estimate (which is understandable on a 14 year old vehicle with 200k miles) but Steve actually saved all my parts and showed them to me, explaining why everything was necessary and not charging me for parts he bought but ended up not using. He did not gouge me. As long as I live in the Valley, I will take my car to Steve Sloan at Circle Star. It says something when you see the amount of nice Mercedes parked there waiting to be serviced. I used to trust the Lexus dealer. It seems I paid mightily for the good coffee and cookies. In a nutshell Lexus told me I had a 1,200 dollar distributor problem and charged me $130 to look at the car and make this diagnosis. I brought the car to Circle Star and they fixed the distributor problem by replacing a $3 O-ring. Steve also discovered the true cause of my car trouble, a bad fuel injector which he fixed at a very reasonable cost. Had I stayed with Lexus' dealer, I would have paid $1200 for an O-ring, and another $1000+ to fix the fuel injector after they would have replaced my fully functional distributor (which as mentioned, only needed a $3, easily accessible o-ring). My Lexus runs like it's brand new and it cost me only 20% of what the dealer would have charged me to replace unnecessary parts and the injector. If you want Auto Services that you can trust and not just the expensive coffee cookies or fancy waiting rooms, you need to be bringing your car to Steven and the mechanics at Circle Star Mercedes. You can see, they fix more than just Mercedes, and they do an exceptionally good job of it. I have referred other people (including my mother and her Lexus) and they are ecstatic with the work that was done as well. read more

10 out of 10 stars here. We broke down 1 hour into a road trip up north. My wife (6 months pregnant) a 14 month old baby, and a car full of gear and by some MIRACLE we called this place (closed at the time) a man answers and says keep driving to his shop and he will meet us there. My car barely makes it to the shop. This guy spends 45 minutes running computer diagnosis ($130) I have no choice I have to do it. Tells me "I can fix anything except a broken heart" but he feels more comfortable taking me to a shop that specializes in Land Rover......hmmm...wow he's giving up business because he thinks they will do better and faster to get parts (ok I trust him now) he drives my car very carefully to the other shop and says can you call me uber back to my shop? (Of course) then says not to worry about the $130 diagnosis fee???? BTW, this post does not give justice to the kind, calm, professional vibe this guy gives off. Typical grungy car shop that looks like the rest but this is the needle in the haystack. The diamond in the rough. We will refer ALL family and friends to this place. We will drive 1 hour from home for ALL car issues. read more

I guess I'm just unlucky. I took my Mercedes in to Circle Star for Air Conditioner repair a few years ago. The car is kept in the garage and not driven much so it takes me a while to know whether or not a repair was done well or not. The A/C was not working well and needed repair and I was advised by Circle Star to "upgrade" the freon from the old R12 to the new R134A. To do this a "conversion kit" needed to be installed which is supposed to have the correct fittings, R134A compatible seals etc. R134a will destroy the old R12 seals etc. The old freon and oil was supposed to be completely flushed/purged from the system and replenished with R134a compatible oil and fluids. Long story short, the items that were supposed to be replaced to make my air conditioning system compatible with R134a were all completely disintegrated. by the R134a within a year or two. I recently took the Mercedes out into the hot weather.and turned on the A/C. Totally dead. Only Hot air coming out. Took the car into another service center and found out that all the seals were completely destroyed including the rubber and seals in the air compressor. So I had to replace everything again including the air compressor this time. My car also has the Mercedes Bosch fog lamps which are expensive and brackets are impossible to find. The fog light mounting brackets were missing on one of the lamps when I got the car back from Circle Star and had to buy a new OEM replacement for $300. So I had to spend an additional $2500 to repair the repair work that Circle Star did on my car. I'll never go back there and do not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

I had been going to my Mercedes dealer for service for years when I suddenly woke up. Their service was fine but their prices were astronomical. One day I drove by Circle Star on Oxnard and stopped in. My car was telling me it was time for service but the price the dealer had quoted blew me away. Without knowing the dealer's quote, Steve gave me a price that was 40 percent less. The service they performed was excellent and I've been going there ever since. You get what you pay for. I discovered Steve about 2 years ago. I had split service for my 1980 300cd between a place in West LA and another shop in North Hollywood. Both served me relatively well. I did have an issue with my a/c that neither shop could figure out. I was referred to Circle Star through a parts manufacturer. Steve immediately figured the problem out. Having gone 8 yrs w/o a/c and having invested about $1000 into it with no success, Steve became an immediate savior. Since then, Steve has proven himself fair, comprehensive and completely reliable. He explains any and every repair and takes the time to accommodate his clientele. A great mechanic is hard to come by. I'm lucky to have found one.
