Today my Jaguar had a hose break that connected to the radiator as I turned right off of Ventura Boulevard. I pulled over pop my hood and started calling Aaa. Hi Quality Motors just saved me over $4000... During my last oil change at my Fiat dealership, they told me I needed thousands of dollars of "urgent repairs" -- including a whole new axel assembly because one part was leaking grease and "they don't sell axel parts separately for Fiats." I believed them, but couldn't begin to afford their price! The repairs were more than the Kelly Bluebook value of the car! I took it to Hi Quality Motors on a recommendation. Their phone estimate was already thousands of dollars less. They fit me in last minute to inspect the car and give me a final quote. Not only did they inspect the car and conclude nothing was wrong, they showed me each area of concern while the car was still up on the lift -- nothing was leaking or broken, it was just a bit dirty. The mechanic took my Fiat for a drive and invited me to join, just to be sure he didn't hear anything. The car was running just fine. The dealer was absolutely trying to swindle me. After all his care and attention, the mechanic even fixed one of my rims that had been dented by a pothole. When I asked the price for everything... "no charge." I was looking for an auto parts store that someone told me was on the 13600 block of Ventura Blvd.. however, I could not find it. I DID however stumble upon this place. I parked my truck got out and asked if there was an auto parts supply store nearby. A man named Steve told me that there used to be one on the corner, but its been gone a long time now. Much to my dismay, I asked if he knew of one nearby, he told me and then asked if he could be of assistance in any way.. I asked him if he might take a look at something for me.. and without hesitation he did. I opened my hood and showed him a tube from my radiator that kept coming off and I figured all I would need was a clamp... and he agreed... THEN... without hesitation... he not only grabbed one for me but placed it on as well. AND .. wanted nothing for it! This kind of human being rarely exits any longer!!! I got my car serviced here and... No complaints! My car was done within 8 hours and I picked it up the next morning. It was certainly pricy but I have a Range Rover so what do I expect?! Ha! I HAD TO CALL THE POLICE ON THIS GUY!!!!!!!! my "needs oil" light has been coming on. returned to steve to ask why this had been happening. i never felt secure in the work he said had been done. my one an only experience had been horrible! he quoted me one price then charged me $90 extra, telling me he had made (unauthorized repairs) as a courtesy. today, while waiting for him to verify the oil change i paid for had actually been done he became verbally abusive. my friend was on speaker the entire time, listening. he had continued to justify his original deception. i told him just to confirm there was oil in my car. he became more aggressive, raising his voice and calling me a criminal. (i did not over charge myself) alarmed and feeling very unsafe, i said i was going to leave and would take the matter up legally. and, that i would take my car to another mechanic to verify the things he charged me for had been done. he became irate, screaming and cursing. he moved in on me and his employee pulled him back. i phoned the police to file a criminal complaint. when I told him the police were on their way, he said"I hope you get cancer and die! you #$%@ !!" my boss pulled up while i was speaking with the police. she saw how shaken up i was. I'm looking at buying a used Audi and I wanted to get an inspection done on the car before I pulled the trigger. Hi Quality was the highest rated on Yelp, AND they're really close to my apartment, so I called and set up a time to stop by. I met Steve and we went on a quick test drive before coming back to the garage where he put my car on a lift and literally walked me through all of the issues he saw. Then, once he lowered the lift, he hooked up his code reader and we went item by item on what was kicked back. He even added a quart of oil since it was a bit low. Overall great service and friendly conversation, too. When I asked about the prices for potential repairs, he was upfront with everything. Steve is a dishonest crook. I was selling my 1988 Mercedes 560SL and the buyer asked me to bring the car to "Hi Quality" for an inspection. First, Steve and I did a ride along together. Steve drove my car while I sat in the passenger seat. As soon as we were on the road, safely out of earshot of the potential buyer, Steve blurted, "You look like you're British. You British?" I thought to myself how best to answer this oddly specific, random question, but before I could respond, Steve snapped, "Or you don't know where you were born?!" Biting my tongue, I replied, "I do know where I was born. I was born in Los Angeles." Being a good sport, I then asked him where he was from. He jumped at the question, "Jordan! Do you even know where that is?" To Steve's apparent surprise, I did have a general knowledge of geography, and stated, "the Middle East". "That's right", Steve acknowledged, "The Holy Land. You should go there." I could tell now that this was going to be a fun ride. Steve continued to drive, and drive, and drive.... Before we'd left, I'd been under the impression that this would be a test drive around the block. However, this spin was turning into a full on road trip. "How does it handle on the freeway?" Steve asked rhetorically, as he pulled onto the 101. "Um, pretty good", I said. Steve floored the car up the onramp and when the transmission groaned to keep up, he shouted, "What's that noise!" "I don't know. You're the mechanic", I said with a shrug. "You don't like to get your hands dirty huh," he gibed, while he spastically mashed the accelerator up and down, eliciting more grumbles from the transmission. When we were close to the shop, Steve quizzed me on some of the questions he'd already inquired about the car. "So what side was the damage from the hit and run on?", he asked. "The right side", I answered. "Which side?", Steve requestioned, hunting for discrepancies, even though I'd already told him about the right side damage before the car ride. "The right side...". "On the right, right?" "Yes", I told him, for the fourth time. Finally, Steve pulled the car back into his back alley shop. The potential buyer walked up to the car and announced, "You guys were gone a really long time!" If you only knew man. At this point, it was dark. Steve hoisted the car on the lift and told us that the car had rust, which was like a cancer on the car. I couldn't see much, and also didn't really want to be around Steve much longer, so I took his word on it. Tired and defeated, I drove the car home. Later on that night, in texts, the potential buyer acknowledged that Steve is "a struggling mechanic/actor who's very angry at the world" but that according to Steve "the rust is widespread and only going to get worse" and "[he] trusts Steve to know what he's talking about" and "that said if we can make a deal that makes sense to both of us fantastic". I was pretty bummed because I'd owned the car for ten years. I'd kept up the car really well. No mechanic had ever mentioned rust in any of the numerous maintenance jobs. The next day, out of the blue, my regular mechanic called me and said that a girl had come into his shop looking for an old Mercedes like mine. He told me, "she brought in this 380 Mercedes for an inspection, but it was junk. I told her that you're trying to sell your 560SL, and I know it's in good condition from working on it, so if you want I can call her. She's very interested." I warned my mechanic that this asshole Steve had informed me that my car had widespread rust. My mechanic told me just to come down and we'd take a look. I took the car down the following day, the very same day I was scheduled to sell the car for peanuts to this potential buyer who'd sworn by Steve. We put the car on the lift and my mechanic showed me, in the light of day, that the car had no rust at all. "Your frame has a coating, to protect it from rust," he said, "there is a little surface rust on the muffler, but that's normal. There is not a spot of rust on the frame." After the inspection, I told him to call the interested girl. She came in and I sold her my Mercedes for nearly asking price. Steve did his best to dupe me into selling the car for nothing. I almost fell for it. He is a deceptive, unsavory, awful husk of a human being. Avoid this crooked thief as you would an open manhole cover. read more

I was really impressed with Steve today. My check engine light turned on yesterday so decided to shop around for a mechanic. Naturally I went to yelp to find the best shops in the area. I found 2 5 star shops and gave both of them a call. Shop 1 had an opening for the morning and wanted to charge me around $75 for the check engine light. It seemed a little steep so I called Hi Quality. Over the phone I was quoted around $45 to check my engine light. I rolled the car in 20 minutes later. Steve checked it out and found that it was only a sensor that needed to be plugged back in. He was very honest; It could have been so much worse and it only took 15 minutes tops. No charge. Easily the best experience with a mechanic I've had and it was my first time meeting the man. He's earned a customer for the life of my car and some.
