I've been banking at this Citibank branch on Piedmont for about four or five years, and it's been consistently good. I'm not reviewing Citi as a company. I'm reviewing this location. The wait is short, the staff are helpful, and the parking lot makes everything easier. I recently had my wallet stolen and needed help right away. I walked in, showed them a photo of myself, and they got me set up with a temporary card on the spot. It worked immediately. They've also helped me with checking account questions over the years, and I've always found the staff easy to work with. When I was younger, I had a lot of rough experiences with banks. Some of that was on me, and some of it was the staff at my old branches. This Citibank has been the opposite. The team here has been reliable and patient every time I've needed something. I was at a Yelp Black Elite Event and was Impressed with the Quality Of Food and Superior Service that I Received!!! So I Dropped A Fat Tip In The Tip Bucket!!! So I stopped by this ATM and Made a Withdrawal!! Had to Restock my Mad Money Funds . This is Probably the Only ATM in the Oakland Area That I Would Use at Night!!! Piedmont Avenue is Fairly Safe!! this morning I had some one from this branch call me and leave a phone number to "call back as soon as possible" ?when you hear that you think something is wrong ! when I called the number back ... it went to a voice mail that didnt even identify it as citi bank . I just wasted over an hour trying to get through to verify this was a real call . as it turns out this was just a person giving me a courtesy call ? lemme tell you all about COURTESY .... have an actual teller available when I go to the bank , they have been so short staffed Ive gone TO the bank several times and there was only atm service no teller , if there are are tellers they wait is awful . dont leave me a cryptic voice mail make it seem like something is wrong with my account and then have it be some one trying to sell me services ? nope when I want you I will show up ...problem is when ya want some one at that branch ....they are never there . mad enough to pull me money out of citibank completely if I could just find one with in walking distance of my apartment . read more

Oh yea, THAT'S why I cancelled my Citi Bank account a couple years ago. I can't believe I'm saying this but, just go to Wells Fargo a block away. Night and day better. Or US Bank if they are convenient to you. Today I went to the Citi ATM because it was a block closer than Wells Fargo. The ATM says "dispenses 10s, 20s, and 100s". Great, I need 100s to buy a large item. When I get to dispense time, it offers me choice of 10s or 20s only, no 100s. I think no big deal, the branch is open, the line is short, I'll just have the teller exchange since the ATM is out of 100s. I choose 20s and the ATM gives me 20s (with a couple 10s thrown in too, oddly). I wait in line less than 10 minutes and explain the situation to the teller. They are surprised "No 100s? We just filled it yesterday." I confirm, no 100s. She says "Oh are you using a Citi account card" and I say "Nope" and she tells me "Oh the machine will only give 100s if you use a Citi card". I say "Oh that's annoying since it doesn't explain that, and other banks like Wells Fargo and US Bank don't have this restriction.. can you exchange my 20s for 100s then?" "No, we only do that for customers". Ahhh. You know guess what? I was a customer until I experienced what it was like to be a customer. Want $20 in quarters for laundry? Where's your ATM card? Oh you left it at home? We can only identify you by ATM card. Don't want to go home and get it? Well... we have a process that requires a supervisor and could take some time... Or you know, just go a block away to Wells Fargo where I am NOT an account holder and get my quarters instantly. Because Wells Fargo is a bank. A bank that is good at doing bank things. And does the right thing for people because they know how business works. And empowers their tellers to do basic things without forcing cumbersome processes. The tellers always forget to write the memo on my cashier checks. I pay $10 for that & even when you have me write it down for you, you still forget? Most banks they won't even write a cashiers check for you unless you give them the memo. read more

Be prepared to wait...and wait...and wait...and wait...I'm not sure why their staffing is so abysmal, but visiting this branch is always an excruciating experience. Terrible customer service, I called there branch in the morning and couldn't get ahold of anyone so I called the branch while I was there and I saw the 2 tellers not doing a single thing with no customers, and then I seen them forward my call to the call center. Very very unprofessional I didn't want to talk to a call center I wanted to talk to that branch. Tellers are also very very rude and don't care about customers at all. I read all the poor reviews but I needed this location because it has parking. I was greeted at the front door by a staff member who was very helpful. I needed to see a bank officer so she went inside to see who could best help me. I was told to see Nahela. Nahela was so pleasant and helpful. I had some issues that were a bit out of the normal situation and she fixed things seamlessly. I left feeling the reviews needed to be updated. All in all it was efficient and pleasant. Everyone was wearing a mask and socially distanced. Only three customers allowed inside at a time for a maximum of 10 people including staff. read more

This branch will not cash or honor checks written on Citibank. Apparently a new policy regulates non-clients to only one bank in the area, about 10 miles away. I don't understand why they do this. There's absolutely Nobody in the branch right now, they have three tellers sitting here waiting for something to do and they will not honor the check. Hopelessly unprofessional. I'd been with them for over a year, during which they charged $10 for every *received* wire transfer, and started charging me $10/month for having the account. I went in to open a joint account with my wife. He entered her first name wrongly, despite it being common and easy to spell. He tried to correct it, and it turned out he'd also misspelled her middle name. The account application had already been submitted on the system -- despite us not having signed the paperwork yet -- so he couldn't correct it, only add a note about the wrongly spelled names. Hardly inspired confidence. The manager came over and practically shrugged off the errors - "mistakes happen in any industry, I'm sure they do in yours too". I have used this location numerous time. It became my regular bank. I have been with citiBank for over 10 years. The assistant manager is very rude and has no customer service. She will not assist customers when her help is needed. I have deposited money into my account. (Account in good standing) The branch will put a hold on it and will release small amounts throughout a period of time as if I am a child receiving an allowance. WITH MY OWN MONEY. They have lost me as a customer. I have called to customer service and they refer me back to the bank. The bank is the problem. The parking lot is always full while the bank is empty. I have also notified the tellers and management. They hired security but he just stands and smokes outside while on duty. I have also tried to withdraw money from the ATM and the machine is constantly saying unable to dispense money. But it allows deposits. Welcome to your local branch. LOL! read more

I cannot believe how a branch staff can be so nice and yet SO incompetent. Tried to rollover an IRA three times and they messed up - so I gave up. Signed up for a banking incentive in September and after three attempts NO fulfillment of the incentives despite being told SOON. I would not recommend banking here...or with CITI. read more

This branch SUCKS! It only has 4 parking spots that are not for a handicap person. They say they want to help you, but if you don't have an account with them you get the run around. As well as passed off to everyone in the building. Then you have to explain to each person what is going on. I will NEVER open an account with this bank!!! They leave you in a cubical as you sit for more time by your self while they do whatever it is they want where they can't be seen. Several complaints about this branch: needed to cash a check drawn on Citibank, but read on Yelp that their branches do not do so due to a new policy. So I called a nearby branch with no answer, just prompts that didn't provide info I needed. So I called customer service, who informed me that the 4101 Piedmont Branch did honor it. So I kept driving. Get there and the Sister girl at the window informed me that they did not, but go to Fruitvale branch. Of course it's now 1:30p and they close at 2pm. No time to get to Fruitvale branch. Teller then says, "Oh well, have a nice day" with an attitude. I responded there was no reason for an attitude and may I speak to a manager. The manager then replied, "that's me and have a seat". It's now 1:43p and I'm still waiting while he's greeting other customers, hugging them in front of me. read more

I give 5 stars to Michelle Lin, Personal Banker. I went on because I was alerted by Citibank's Fraud Prevention Department that someone was trying to use my name to get a credit card. I was advised to visit the branch. Michele helped me right away. Got on the phone with another Citibank office and quickly resolved my issue. The down side to this branch is that they NEVER keep the same people. The managers have left. Some of the tellers have gone. It all started maybe a year or so ago. I went to Citibank's Piedmont Avenue branch to open a $25000.00 13 month CD. Everything was fine until later down the line I wanted to access the CD to see how it was going. It was then that I found out you can't check on your CD's progress unless you open a checking or savings account with Citibank. In other words you cannot obtain any information about it's growth, nothing! So this month I get a letter from Citibank telling me my CD is coming up for renewal. Thank the Good Lord. It's time to bail. I call Citibank's call center to check on how I go about closing my CD out so I can deposit it in another institution where I already have several CD's and by the way can, go on line as much as I want to check their progress without stipulations as with this institution. Citibank can't find my CD, can't find any record of me opening a CD, can't even find my name. I am big time freaked out to say the least!!! I hot foot it to the Piedmont Avenue branch and immediately closed out my CD account with them and by closing it out early took a small hit but it's worth it. Bottom line I will never set foot in, do business with, recommend, Citibank ever, never, and forever!! They are uncaring, unorganized, and somewhat a very shady banking institution I want nothing to do with and recommend all who read this to heed my advice. STAY AWAY FROM CITIBANK!!!!!!! read more

I am currently having the worst issue with Citibank. And it all started with this branch. I deposited 2 checks back in Nov, and the atm machine ate them. Luckily the branch was open so the manager helped me. He had me sit while he filed a claim. They couldn't get the checks out of the machine, but he could see the checks & the amounts, which I confirmed. He assured me that everything would be ok. Now months later, I got notified in the mail to supply the checks. Um...how am I going to do that? I called, and they told me I had to reply with a handwritten letter, so I did. Then the next letter said since I didn't supply the checks they will withdraw the $. So I went into the branch. This time the assistant manager told me she would take care of it, not to worry, and that she would call me at the end of the day. She never did. Thy withdrew the $. Money I earned, taken. I called the number on the letter today, and they said they would need to talk to the branch members, and that they were on hold and would call me back. Never did. This branch has shown me they are not capable of handling this situation & do not do what they say they will. 3 out of the 5 times I'm there one of the atms is broken. I have been a Citibank customer for over 20 years, since I was a little kid! I have never been so disappointed. My husband works for Wells Fargo. Once I finally get my money from this thieving branch I am leaving them! read more

My branch was closed where I original opened my business account at over 13 years ago. Who ever input the info in the computer made many errors and CitiBank blocked my account. I have not been able to use the bank since Saturday. When I called customer service they were not open yet. It is noe Monday and still the account is blocked. I went into thus branch to unblock the account and the manager said it will be unblocked Tuesday. Meanwhile the bank is declining my auto pay transactions...VERY FRUSTRATING. Manager not very helpful he wanted me to full out all new paper as if so am opening new account. I was prepared with a lot of questions in terms of which account to open and he explained my options with great detail. Do! Doooo! Guess I'm next on the Michelle Lin hype train. I have worked with Michelle since she was at Grand Avenue and was sad when she left - coincidentally also when I stopped going there. Michelle is very competent and caring which is what I look for in a bank. If she can help roll over a brokerage IRA in a living trust with a deceased trustee, I'm sure she can help you with other issues - maybe even cure cancer. Having said that, the branch is very VERY compact and can get crowded, and the parking is non-existent. However, people are the most important part of the bank which is why I rate it so highly. read more

As far as major bank chains go this one is pretty good. The main negative though is parking - they have something like 7 or 8 spots in the back and it's constantly full and it's usually very hard to find parking not to mention having to pay for it when your going to a bank to either pull $ or deposit it - that's annoying. read more
