I found Cityscape at the Home & Garden Show in Scottsdale and scheduled a free estimate after speaking with a very friendly woman at their booth. Joey came out to do the quote and was quick, efficient, and explained what to expect. I received the estimate later that same day as promised and the price was fair. When I approved the quote we talked about color options, and he recommended the "Native" color. I wanted something neutral but with a little character in a herringbone pattern, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. He also mentioned darker tones tend to hold up better in the Arizona heat since lighter colors fade faster. The only hiccup was the scheduling process. They require a deposit before scheduling, which made me a little hesitant. I was told I'd get a call later that day to set the install date, but it took a couple follow-up calls before we actually got it confirmed. The office staff was always very polite and helpful though. On install day, I had given instructions on where materials could be placed since I live in a townhouse complex, but the pavers ended up being left in the grass overnight instead. Luckily everything was fine. I later found out the superintendent originally assigned to my project got sick, so another team member stepped in and didn't have all the details from our earlier conversations, which probably explains the communication mix-up. That said, once the work started the crew moved quickly and finished within the expected timeframe (about three days). Poor communication and project management; still incomplete after 3+ months We hired CitiScapes for a travertine paver and turf installation. The crew's craftsmanship on the travertine was genuinely good, but everything around project management and communication fell short. Owner Kendall repeatedly gave us specific dates and times for work to happen, which were then missed without proactive updates -- we had to chase him for status on nearly every phase. Demo also ran long, and the crew failed to clear debris from our driveway in time for Easter; we ended up using Facebook Marketplace to get people to haul away leftover materials ourselves. The turf installation has been the most disappointing part. For what we paid for a premium product, the seams are visibly poor. It took five weeks just to get a crew out to attempt a repair, and that attempt made the seam lines worse. We now have a tentative date for another repair, but given the pattern of missed commitments, we're not confident it will be honored. At one point we went over a month without any contact from them - until they called asking for payment, and we had to push back to get anyone out to the site. The project started before Easter. It's now nearly August, and it's still not finished. If clear communication and reliable follow-through matter to you, I'd be cautious about pursuing CitiScapes. read more

Poor quality on the turf. Said seams would be invisible they are not. Against the house was a big gap and the just put in small strips to fill it in. Watering system was one valve for front and back. CAlso put in planter boxes and didn't seal the brick wall as they said they would. Asked for sandy loam to be put in the planter boxes and they put in dirt that was full of rocks. Had to rip it all out 2 years later after HOA said we damaged the wall. Had to pay to repair the wall. read more

Do not use this company for existing outdoor ponds/fountain. They did a good job on the rest of my landscape work, but the workmanship on my pond/fountain was less than substandard for what they charged me. I had an existing pond/fountain that needed to be restored so that it could run properly again. Before I even hired Citiscapes, they came out and looked at my property. I showed them my pond/fountain which included a pond liner that had some tears in it, and I specifically asked them if they could restore my pond so that it was running again and they said yes. The salesperson told me that they would "seal" the pond, which I had no idea what that meant at the time. I was given a quote that included labor to pressure wash the pond/fountain (part of the entire landscape demolition cost) and a separate charge of $1,350 to "seal interior of fountain." When they came to "seal" the pond/fountain, rather than replacing the existing torn liner which I had mentioned might need to be done before I hired them, they duct taped it and proceeded to use spray cans of sealant (about 4-5 spray cans) - all for $1,350!!!! They told me that my pump and filter did not work (although I don't know how they knew that when they never filled the pond up with water to test them) and that once I got new ones, they would come back out to install them and finish the rest of the work on the pond. But they asked for my final payment, promising me they would be back to finish the job. I gave them my final payment and quickly got a new pump and filter and contacted them to schedule them to come back out. After giving them my final payment, that's when the communication became difficult. I tried to be patient given the holidays, but it took them several weeks of me constantly texting and/or calling to get them to come back out to finish the job. We had several days of rain during the time I waited for them send someone out and the rainwater sat stagnant in the pond. Several weeks later, after constantly calling them, they sent someone out to install the new pump and filter and finish putting rocks (from my property) around the pond. After the new pump and filter were installed, we filled up the pond and even though the water was disgusting because it sat stagnant for so long, it was at least running. The next morning, I discovered that the water leaked out of the pond overnight. Not surprisingly, the duct tape they used on the existing liner was a joke! Had they filled the pond up to tested it for any leaks after they "sealed" it the first time, they would've been aware of this right away. I called them again to tell them the pond leaked. Again, it took a while to get someone to come out to look at the pond. When they did finally come back out, they agreed to replace the pond liner with a new one. Since they did not properly restore the pond and did not get anyone out there right away to finish the pond, the bottom of my pond/fountain looked the same way it was before they started working on the pond. The pond was filled with dirty water and debris which developed over the weeks it took them to come back out to finish the work. Additionally, the pond has a water line that needed to be repaired but when I asked them about this, I was then told that they didn't know how to or did not feel comfortable repairing it on an existing pond/fountain. Something that they should've told me before I hired them. If I had been told from the beginning that they could not properly restore my pond/fountain including all plumbing to the pond, then I would've never hired them and I certainly would have never agreed to pay them $1,350 to use duct tape and roughly 4 spray cans to "seal" my pond. Even after finally replacing the pond liner, they didn't even offer to clean the pond again after I had to wait several weeks for them to come back and finish the work. Citiscapes is the definition of what happens when bad workmanship meets worse communication. We initially hired them three years ago to remove a couple of trees -- somehow that turned into a full irrigation system replacement and front yard redesign. Big mistake. In just the last four months, we've had four different leaks. When we brought in a competent company to take a look, it took them less than five minutes to find the issue: Citiscapes never installed a pressure regulator, and they used cheap poly tubing instead of durable PVC. Beyond the poor-quality materials and sloppy installation, the customer service is abysmal. I spent days trying to confirm a scheduled service visit -- calling, texting, asking for a quote, trying to lock down a time. No one responded. The day came and went with no crew, no communication, no quote. I followed up again the next day and was completely ignored. Then, days later, they finally sent a quote -- and had the audacity to follow up on it multiple times without ever acknowledging that they ghosted me. No apology, no explanation, just silence followed by a sales pitch. This company is disorganized, careless, and absolutely not worth the money. They placed posts that are about 5'' feet tall which has our lights hanging where you need to lower your head every time you walk across the yard! Then the lights fall off the posts! When we bought our first house last winter, the backyard was in disaray. The ground was uneven, the rock was old leaving patches of open dirt, and the eye sore of what was left of an old fountain remained an twisted mound of concrete, plaster and small boulders hunched in the corner. We knew we needed some help to transform our backyard into a safe and usable space for us, and our dog, to enjoy. The Citiscapes owner, Kendal, took time to come out for a consult and was very knowledgeable, patiently walking us through several options which were within our budget. Once we landed on a decision the landscaping was scheduled in a timely manner. Crew leader Victor lead a small crew of workers under superintendent Jeremy's supervision- and our yard was completely transformed in just two days time. What was left of the old yard was all hauled out, the ground leveled for appropriate drainage, new irrigation installed, new rock laid, baby bushes planted, etc. etc.. Its been approx. three months since Citiscapes completed their top notch work, and the plants are now thriving. Overall the retaining wall looks nice and they did a good job cleaning up after the job. The team at Citiscapes, were great. They understood the scope of work and completed it on time without a hitch. We wanted to add onto the back of our pool a grass area around pool for our dogs to be able to run all around the pool chasing each other and yes, more exercise for them. When I had the pool 2022 installed it took our past pool company 15 months to complete, this year they went bankrupt, and we no longer have a warrantee. Kendall was quick to respond to my inquiry and come by to provide a quote. He was knowledgeable and didn't attempt to upsell me. The price seemed fair so I moved forward with the project with his company. However, they were not very clear with scheduling and I received confusing dates from multiple sources. They rescheduled and then weren't clear when they would return. Once the work was completed, they did a poor job- the tree stump wasn't ground down all the way, the crab grass was trimmed, not removed, and there was no weed barrier below the rock they installed, which was discussed at the time of the quote. It's also just basic practice when installing rock. When I complained about the job, Kendall was apologetic and quick to make it right. The crew came back to fix these issues- again, the scheduling was confusing- but they did eventually make it back out. They essentially had to do the job twice because it wasn't done well the first time. Overall I'm satisfied with the end result and the price, but as my first experience with a landscaping company I can say I'm not impressed. I applaud Kendall for making sure I was happy with the work, but all the other issues mean it's unlikely I'll hire them again. read more

Good and bad here. Yesenia is very nice, and they have been responsive and easy to reach. She stated that her office manager is quoting me $700 for monthly yard service on my property, because I'm outside of their radius. Again.. that's $700 per MONTH. Our yard is already landscaped with desert landscaping and artificial turf and is so low maintenance that bi-weekly service is too much (the workers have nothing to do.. show up, leaf blow and leave) so monthly works well! We don't live in a million dollar estate. I have a standard 4 bedroom at 75th Ave and Glendale so I'm not in the boonies either. I'm getting quotes at $85 a month, which is more reasonable. I'm not sure if maybe it's a communication issue as to what I'm looking for but when I asked to clarify that was a per month amount, she said that's what she was told. $700 a month is an incredible "out of radius" surcharge. They did state they'd need to see the property to properly quote, but at that price, why bother? Would it only be $500 once they see it?? Again, very nice people but proceed with caution. read more

We were very happy with the work and service we just received from AZ Citiscapes for a full backyard renovation. The new travertine tile for our patio floor and new BBQ island with adjacent bar looks fantastic. We also had new artificial turf and plenty of plants with irrigation and lights. Kendall was especially responsive to all inquiries and questions and he came to the house or contacted us every work day to make sure questions were answered and provide us status and the path forward. I had them landscape my courtyard and sidewalk area. Many of the plants have died or have been eaten by rabbits. I specifically ask for plants that rabbits were not attracted to. They also have done damage to my 2 pillars that are at the entrance to the courtyard. When they brought wheelbarrows of stone in they rammed the metal front wheel protector into the pillars breaking stone off in many areas Of the stone pillars. They also did not put in enough stone to cover the dirt In the courtyard. The water feature that they installed was a big mistake because you can not control the water level so it floods. I have texted Kendall numerous times but he just ignores the texts. This has been a problem for four months and the issues keep on coming. I have many photographs to validate what I am saying. Yesenia was great at responding to my request for an in home estimate for hardscaping in my back yard. My appointment was scheduled and I received a text the day before confirming a time frame for the visit. The morning of, I received a call from Kendall asking to get a little more information about the project. He asked me what my budget was and I let him know that I wasn't sure as there were a few different scenarios I was interested in depending on costs involved. He proceeded to try and give me a ballpark price based on arial photos from Maricopa county ($5,000 and I never chose a product). I was a little surprised and said that I felt he needed to be on site to see what I was looking for and that it couldn't be calculated based in arial views. His statement to me was that he did not want to waste his or my time was a clear indicator that it was his time he was more interested in. I voiced that I felt like he was "vetting me" when I was the one interested in learning about the company and what services were offered. After 10 minutes of exchange his last statement to me was "I don't think this is a good fit for our company" and he was absolutely right. When we began looking for a company to hire, this business was one of the landscapers who came to our home for a review and estimate. The representative ensured our family that their business was top notch that takes really in-depth care of all landscapes, which justified their higher-than-average price. Since hiring this company, however, we had nothing but issues from the beginning. Aside from failing to show up at their scheduled times--multiple times--their employees were careless and broke a string of lightbulbs in our backyard. This business has consistently ignored our requests pertaining to our landscaping preferences. These preferences were not in depth; they were simply regarding which plants we'd like trimmed, etc. Additionally, one of our Italian cypress trees began dying under their care. Despite communicating the state of the tree to the company, it has only since gotten worse. We are at the point where we are fed up with working with this business and are looking into other options. Having just moved into our new home in Surprise, we needed to have our backyard landscaped. I contacted Kendall in August of 2021 and he responded quickly by meeting us at our home. Kendall has alot of great ideas to compliment your vision. He is very knowledgeable and doesn't leave a question unanswered. Kendall was 1 of 3 contractors we called. His pricing was average for what needed to be done and his estimate on all materials requested was reasonable. Kendall is not a high pressure sales man. He tells you how much and will work with you if you have a budget. We contracted to have turf, pavers and gravel installed. A block wall with gate was also installed after the landscaping was complete. All materials were ordered and delivered on time, his team worked very hard to move and place all materials in their designated spots. Our project took 3-4 days to complete and we love the results. Kendall has also just recently constructed a solid top Pergola to cover our Jacuzzi which took a day to install. We would definitley hire Kendall again for future projects. read more
