Arguably the best breakfast / brunch we've tried anywhere, with only local favourite Jam Cafe rivalling it. The French toast was the best we've had; covered in fresh blueberries & strawberries, dusted with a generous portion of icing sugar. Served with a side of syrup and a scoop of gelato, naturally. The pulled pork sandwich was melt in your mouth good; also the best I've had. What made this meal unique was their amazing truffled egg white and toast dip; a menu item I wish were available locally. The downside of all this goodness; like Jam cafe, it's a similarly lengthly wait; we waited outside for 45 minutes, with the food taking another hour. This place is hip and trendy. We came in for breakfast. The service was great and friendly. The breakfast we had were pretty good. The portions were smaller but we were spoiled by our previous days breakfasts are FireBug up the road. We didn't get nearly as much food for the price and the plating was average. The lattes however were much larger. If you want to have a beautiful plate of food, with more on it, I do highly recommend FireBug, or Cup & Cake. Needing a good brunch to start off our day of adventures, we stumbled upon Citizen Cafe. It's a very small storefront, but there's plenty of space when you walk in. There's a cozy, rustic vibe about it that I really enjoyed. The tables in front are small, but they have larger tables back past the kitchen area for big parties to dine. I ordered the Avo Toast, which was much more filling than I expected. Piled high with greens, avocado, and topped with a poached egg, I was happy with my choice. I also ordered a Cafe Latte which was the perfect caffeinated pick-me-up. The service was good and quick, waitress was friendly, and the food was delicious. The first meal in a city while incredibly jet lagged isn't usually memorable, but Citizen Cafe was exactly what we needed after traveling for 20+ hours. They were pretty crowded because we arrived around 11am on a Sunday, but they were great about turn around time and we only had to wait 10 minutes or so to be seated. We sat at the bar, which normally I hate, but it was really cool to see all the fresh juice being pressed. Although I didn't end up getting juice, you should probably get one because they looked amazing! My husband got the yogurt bowl which had beautiful fresh fruit and granola, I got an avocado stack with roasted tomatoes, cheese, and a beautifully poached egg. One of the worse places to brunch in Barcelona. The service is terrible and unfriendly and the food is even worse. They waitress practically yelled at me for asking if they had any milk alternatives and disappeared and disappeared outside what I'm guessing was to smoke marijuana. My boyfriend & I decided to pop into Citizen for our last meal in Barcelona. The atmosphere was bustling. The kitchen is in the open & right next to the bar, so you can admire back-of-house work their magic. It was packed when we arrived, but despite the craziness, the servers kept it relaxed & cool. We started off with some bread & a tomato spread along with an order of the manchego cheese which was hit with some olive oil. Super simple & clean. First 5 minutes no attention from staff, no menu. Eventually asked the bartender if this place is self service, how to order and then we received a menu and nothing further. Another couple came in after us who were received properly, received menu and explanation on what the lunch options are (you can also order off menu from the cabinet display of sandwiches). There was 1 girl running the marathon delivering food and cleaning tables, a manager who just chats with people he likes and does not care at all about organising his team or serving people. The cash tip the people next to us had left on the table when we walked in was still there after we received the first meal. Food: The cappuccino here is just foam, no coffee. Ordered Avo stack which came with a cold poached egg. Ordered a bagel with scrambled eggs but received English breakfast... so had to wait for correct order, by the time it arrived my partner had finished his meal. Food: tried the bagel sandwich with avocado and the patacones as well as the orange juice. All ingredients were fresh, the eggs in the bagel were perfectly cooked (not raw, but not dry) and the pulled pork on the patacones was cooked to perfection. Orange juice was freshly squeezed, very yummy!! Overall delicious and fresh. Place: cozy, retro & medium sized space. Not a lot of seating areas so there might be a little bit of a wait, but it's definitely worth it! Price: normal prices (not cheap or expensive).
