No call, no email, they stole him and now I fear he is gone gone. So angry and full of despair. They got me, I loved that cat and his brother calls and calls for him as well. Horrible experience. A stray cat came up to us a few days ago, very sweet. Took it in to a local animal hospital to get checked for a micro chip with no luck. The vet did indicate the cat has to be someone's cat, or was. It's demeaner is of a housecat, allows to be picked up and held, no issues. After several failed attempts to locate an owner or someone to adopt the cat, we decided to take it to CAP. The intake person absolutely rough handled the cat which ended up hissing and growling at her. And because the cat did that, they won't take it in. It's like they do that on purpose so they DON'T have to take in an animal. This poor cat is very friendly, has been nothing but sweet since it's been with us. It loves sitting on our laps, follows us around. There's nothing aggressive about this cat. We simply can't have another, we already have three. But just the way the intake person handled the cat is enough for me to never bother with CAP again, nor would I ever recommend them to anyone. read more

Over the last 20 years, I have adopted 3 dogs from CAP. My most recent adoption is named Greta, but I call her Gigi or Little G. I can already tell she's going to be the lead dog, but Suzy doesn't seem to mind it, since Gigi does not bully her or try to steal her food and treats. To say I got lucky is the greatest of understatements. Shelter dogs and other rescues are the best pets, and Gigi is the best of the best. She was a stray, so there was nothing known about her. She came to me housetrained. That, alone, would have been enough, but she also walks on a leash like a champ, is not bothered by other dogs or people, does not bark (except for 2 little barks at the dog park), and she calms Suzy (who is barker) down enourmously. I was not familiar with this place when I was looking for a partner in crime for Mr. Cholo. It's tucked away in the back of a strip. They have a lot of furry folks looking for love. It's capacity is at if not over its limit, or was when I was there, but the staff was very good about being available for questions and the such. Mr. Cholo went with me during my visit. Of course, the place went crazy when they witnessed the very definition of debonair strutting through, with the exception for one little gal in the back corner. She eyed him from the comfort of her seated position, and when he walked up, she promptly turned around and gave him the shoulder. Like any true story of love, her indifference was the most attractive thing about her. We were hooked. Miss Ling Limg has been with us for 8 years and we couldn't be happier. She seems to like us too, check out her picture. I would most definitely recommend this place for consideration of a new member to the family. I rescued a stray and called to check on the procedure and requirements for bringing the animal in. I was treated so rudely on the phone that I wouldn't take a sweet dog to a place that treated me as impatiently as I was treated. I was trying to find out if the dog needed to be kenneled, on a leash, or kept in the car to be evaluated and what kind of time I needed to block out of my schedule to be seen since I would be taking off work. I got no answers to any of those questions as I was continually interrupted during the conversation being told to just come in to be evaluated over and over as I tried to get a word in edgewise. They provide a much needed service and I'm sure with volunteers but they need to do some training before they put volunteers in charge of dealing with the public. read more

MISTAKEN ADOPTION! Milo is a Sad Tail of Two Cousins Cousin M Adopted Milo & after 1 week, gave him away to Cousin L in Dallas. L accepted Milo with open arms, cared for him for several months, she fell in love and Milo did too. M said she would watch Milo for a few days, L agreed, then M dumped Milo at a Shelter and wouldn't tell where. L, w/ her Dad's help, found him by hard searching, facial recognition, & calling every shelter for almost a week. When we found Milo, we let the shelter know about his story, how much we wanted Milo back, showed them pictures of Milo growing up with L, and they didn't really seem to care, they said L was not the owner, the chip says its M & now its our property & you'all will have to pay to adapt him. We did all the paperwork, answered additional questions, jumped all the hoops, even agreed to adopt our own Milo Back. They refused to hold him for us even during our 5 hour drive. Then the shelter let someone else adopt Milo and all the shelter said is "We are so sorry that this did not work out as you hoped." A Name on a Chip doesn't own a Dog! A Dog Chooses his/her Human(s) & Gives them his/her Heart. Milo Gave his Heart to L & She Gave Hers to Milo, Forever! This Shelter decided Milo's Heart was LEGALLY theirs to sell FCFS! We are heartbroken, would LOVE to have Milo Back, need to know if he is OK, and we feel for the family who adopted Milo from this shelter without his full story. PLEASE HELP! read more

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews here, but I am so impressed with our experience at CAP. We came in on a Saturday afternoon, and took our time browsing around their (very clean) facility. All the animals I saw seemed to be healthy, clean, and in good spirits. We asked to see one of their kittens, and they were very gentle with her, being careful not to force her out of her kitty condo, or traumatize her since the room was a little bit loud. We had a pretty rude mother and her boisterous child butt in while we were trying to get the kitten out of her condo, but the worker was very patient and waited until they left to pull her out. She took us to a visitation room that was isolated so we could have a bit of quiet personal time with the kitten. When we made the decision to adopt her, the application was a single page (both sides) and we had to wait about 45 minutes because there were several people ahead of us. We met with an adoption counselor and she asked us a lot of questions, and made sure that she answered any questions we had. You can tell that they care about these animals going to good homes, which is important! I really enjoyed our experience here and if we ever want to adopt an animal again in the future, I'd definitely go back to CAP. read more

I have been here four times in the past week looking at the same dog. I went through the entire adoption process, but I needed authorization from my apartment. I come the next day 7 minutes late and they already gave up my emotional support animal. I do not recommend this place. They said I had to come back and even asked if my houses were in my name. Why is that their concern? And yes one hasn't been changed and that's between my lawyer and I . This places priority is not making sure the animals have a home but to make money...Here's why!! I adopted a dog on Friday but unfortunately this dog's temperment wasn't well suited for my cat. I need a dog that isn't going to let my cat push it around. My cat tried to charge the dog a couple times so I promptly took the dog back the NEXT DAY (Saturday). The lady who I returned the dog to asked me why I was returning the dog, took my original adoption papers and put a rope leash thing on the dog and took it back. When I was adopting the dog CAP informs you that you have 2 weeks to exchange HOWEVER what they do not tell you an exchange is only allowed if there is an issue with the dog's temperment. This is a lie bc technically this dog's temperment wasn't suited to my cats therefore I should be given an exchange. When I mentioned this to the lady I was speaking to she said my cat was the problem and that if I wanted another dog I would have to pay the adoption fee again. Lastly on the surrender form I filled out I found peculiar a section that said if the animal you are surrendering is going to be euthanized DO YOU WANT IT BACK? Um WHAT. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A NO KILL SHELTER SO WHAT GIVES? DONT GO HERE. DONT ADOPT HERE. DONT SURRENDER YOUR ANIMALS HERE. DONT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!! read more

Heard about this place from my sister who recommended it because of the quality of service and price. Brought both of my dogs to update their vaccines and get heartworm tested. As I walked it I was immediately greeted by both an employee and volunteer. Being a first timer I had to present my pets vaccination records and fill out paperwork and the volunteered offered to hold my dogs (on their leashes) while I completed it. The colunteer was so kind and caring toward my dogs. My dog Ziggy is who very shy and timid around unfamiliar people took to her right away. Even gave away some of my kisses. After getting everything squared away I waited 15 minutes at most before we were taken back to a room. My dogs were given their vaccines and blood drawn. After a physical exam by the vet we were told to wait in the waiting area to wait for the test results then I was free to put and go. The entire experience was so pleasant! Our family came from CAP! We adopted 3 different dogs at 3 different times from CAP and are very happy with our new family additions! When our dog was lonely because her family members had died, we went to CAP to look for a companion dog for her and us. We went in and found a clean facility. There are many dogs, cats, and other small pets available and it was a bustling environment. I was impressed that there were volunteers around who were cheerful and absolutely truly had the animal's best interest in mind. They asked my husband and I specific questions and determined that we'd be perfect for a small dog adoption (we had a 10 pound Maltese already and no kids). So, they sent us to Petsmart where some CAP volunteers were with some animals at a weekend adoption event. That's where we found Bridgette, our lovely dog. The woman there (Rebecca) asked us some questions, showed us a book of small dogs that she worked with through Chihuahua rescue, and we met the one dog she had with her, Bridgette (1/2 chihuahua and 1/2 corgi - think mini 11 pound Corgi with chihuahua face). Rebecca ended up coming to our house to make sure we were fit for her Bridgette and that Bridgette liked our home. She was VERY thorough. Don't think she is crazy for coming to our house; but working with CAP and Chihuahua rescue, there are more specific requirements. Bridgette was already spayed, 4 years old, and is perfect for us! We went back a year later when our 15 year old Maltese died. Bridgette needed a friend. We met Sherri at CAP. We told her how we had adopted a 11 pound dog from CAP before and she knew Rebecca well. So, Sherri asked us some questions and introduced us to a poodle. We thought "Poodle? We don't want a poodle!" but boy were we wrong! We met her and fell in love. Her name is Leeloo! (If you recognize her from the news, she was stolen from our home and after 2 months and mass amounts of work, she was recovered and is back home with us). Leeloo the poodle is awesome! When our Leeloo was stolen, we went back to CAP and wanted to get a buddy for Bridgette (high anxiety dog - she's chihuahua, what can we say?). We got Keely, a Shih-Tzu. Sherri at CAP had her as a foster dog. She knew we'd make great doggie parents. Keely is great! All 3 of our dogs are from CAP and get along great. All CAP dogs come spayed, micro-chipped, and with a month of vet insurance. CAP gives you a list of vets that will do a free check up on your newly adopted dog. Our vet happened to be one of them. CAP goes above and beyond in some ways. Keely has a small jaw problem. Sherri from CAP brought her to a Vet dental specialist to see if she needed any extra care. If you need a dog, cat, or other pet... I'd go to CAP! Don't let the little strip mall feel deter you. They are working on fund raising for a new facility. Save an animal. Don't buy a dog... Let me start by saying I love this place! Given I adopted my fur baby Norman here a month ago. He's a chihuahua and such a perfect companion that fits right in with my other chihuahua. The selection is large and they take their time letting you make your decision. Only reason I'm giving it 4/5 is because towards the end of my adoption the lady that finalizes everything was very very rude. I wish I had her name. Due to a family situation, I had to surrender my beautiful healthy cat to CAPS on Sunday, May 6th It was heartbreaking but I felt he was in good hands at CAPS a "No Kill Shelter". I gave several cat items and a generous dollar amount to CAPS. Although I gave the cat to CAPS, I still looked for him everyday on their adoptable cat webpage to follow his whereabouts. He was on their website for 2 days and then gone. I thought, wow, he got adopted. I anonymously contacted the shelter to inquire about the cat. They stated the cat had been returned to his owner on Tuesday, May 8th. I was in shock! My response was, "I am the owner and I don't have the cat in my possession." No one could tell me where the cat was. The next day, the manager Jessica contacted me and said that Friends for life had picked him up. I searched for the cat at Friends for Life and everyday have been looking for him to show up on their adoptable cat webpage but my baby is no where to be found. Til this day he is missing. I strongly believe that CAPS EUTHANIZED the cat and lied about the transfer to Friends for Life. Thank you CAPS for taking care of the animals that you CHOOSE to keep alive. I love CAP! One of my dogs came from CAP and she's a great addition to the family. Sometimes I like to stop by just to say hi to some of the homeless dogs (which is bad because it makes me want to take more home!) But I love that theyre flexible there and I can just go up to a cage, open it, and play with the dogs. Their fees are reasonable and I highly recommend adopting their animals. You can also find them at selected PetsMart locations on the weekends. I hope they dont change their policy with the new location. read more

sadly i was hoping to get cat neutered here because i knew someone who had spayed their cat there not even 2 months ago (it's currently august of 2021). When i called about pricing and possible consult they said they haven't done surgeries since pre-covid????? I literally went with my friend to get her cat spayed (i stayed in the car of course) so how can you tell me you haven't been doing them since pre-covid? I understand if they stopped now but i would very much prefer if they wouldn't lie about it. It make me loose any creditability i had from them previously. it's best to look else where. read more

I support this shelter but had an unpleasant experience while I was there. I called them twice before I brought the dogs I had (my grandmothers dogs that she can no longer care for) and both times I explained my situation thoroughly. They said I was good to go and all I needed to do was bring them in. I show up, and the lady tells me I need all these power of attorney forms and legal documents. I understand why they need these forms, but I was very upset because both times I called, no one ever mentioned I would need these. I feel like that's a pretty important detail to forget, especially after two phone calls of me explaining the situation I'm in. I was forced to take the dogs back home, so overall a very inconvenient experience. read more

My boyfriend and I came looking to adopt, we asked if we could play with a puppy we were interested in and the lady answers "you can't just play and take selfies and post on instagram, these are for serious adoptions only". I understand they want the best for these puppies but to say that to me was unnecessary and honestly rude. We finally got them to take the puppy out for us so we could see and the other lady goes "do y'all live in an apartment or house" we answered apt and she goes "he's not good for apartments". Really was hoping this place would be the place I would find a puppy for me since its been hard to go without a pet after having lost my only dog. Staff started off being helpful and explained how things worked, but as I wanted to interact with the pups they would tell me to wait and they would walk right past me as if I wasn't there. Went through the interview process and that is when I noticed they are more interested in the money. They will ask you for a donation and make note of it before they "approve" you. The other thing is they will also try to dictate to you how to raise the pet and that the dog has to be kennel trained. I believe in training the dog and allowing it to sleep on a bed just as anyone else, but I will not raise a dog to be caged. read more

Found a dog on the street, called them on Saturday, since they do not require an appointment to drop off pets. Moreover, it is a no kill shelter if the pets are friendly and no severe diseases. Stopped by, took 15min and paid $30 for the ~30lb dog to finish the admission process, wish that dog can find a good owner soon. My boyfriend & I have been coming every day for the past week to look at one specific dog. My bf put in the application for the dog the very first day we came & has been coming everyday after to just see and spend time with him in their mix n' mingle room. We even got the dog signed up as an emotional support animal for my boyfriend because we were under the impression he was ours after multiple chats & visits. Today we were supposed to finalize everything at 12pm & came in at 12:03 to find that because we were 3 minutes late they gave up our adoption to other couple. I'm surprised at many of the disappointing reviews. I adopted my baby from CAP 3 1/2 years ago. We saw her photo on their website and were waiting at the door when they opened on a Sunday morning. A volunteer hurried to get her for us so no one else could adopt her first. The volunteer made sure we had all sterilized our hands first to prevent transmission of any diseases. We fell in love with the puppy and the volunteer held onto her paperwork so no one could adopt her while we finished our interview & paperwork. The interview consisted of questions that were in the best interest of the animal, which I appreciated. I completed the interview, registration, and left with our fur baby that day. I'm also taking my second puppy to their clinic to be microchipped. I've been very happy with the adoption process and their service. read more

The whole point of this organization is to get people to fall in love with the animals so they would adopt, but as soon as me and my family walked in we saw a dog that we instantly wanted to meet we asked one of the employees if we can go inside and he plainly said "No" with no explanation which baffled me because it wasn't as if it weren't allowed since the people next to us were in a room with another dog ? Then we went to the other side to continue looking at the animals and I was petting a dog in the room when another employee told me to no pet the dog or it's going to use me to jump out ? First of all the pen is made to allow people to pet the dogs and this dog was not even half as tall as the door so it made no absolute sense overall the staff is just plain rude. read more

My husband and I recently adopted a pet from here so I thought I would update. The adoption process is pretty good. If you are a renter, make sure you have your landlord's approval because they will call to make sure! Same for if you are married - they will call your spouse to be sure they are okay with accepting a pet into your home. And if the pet was going to be a surprise? Well, unless you discussed it first that is never a good idea anyway. She was given ample medicine to treat the problem she came in with (excessive fleas) and microchipped before she was sent with me. And the last great thing is you are given both a 72 hour window in which to get a free vet visit from a list of vets AND free pet insurance for one month which covers up to $700. They don't need a credit card number from you or anything, the insurance automatically ends at the end of the month unless you decide to renew. Once you are through the adoption process you go to pay in their pet store. Here is where my annoyances start and why I have deducted a couple of stars. Most of the products in the store are donated by pet shops or even just used items from other people. I bought some "Feliway" since it was supposed to help with a cats anxiety. When I got home I found the bottle was almost empty. So, BEFORE YOU BUY SOMETHING IN A BOX, OPEN THE BOX! You might wind up paying for something and not getting what you pay for. And yes, the feliway cost just as much 75% empty as a full one at the pet store. Yes, I know I am helping a cause, but if you bought a box of Girl Scout Cookies, opened them, and found the box empty, you can't say you would care at that moment that you were helping a cause! And last, I was told that the cat I was adopting could not be checked for heartworms because "we don't do that here". They have her on revolution and said that should be fine and take care of any issues. The couple in front of me, while paying for the dog they were adopting, were approached by one of the CAPS vet tech's. He told them "just to be sure, we checked him for heartworms again and it came out negative." So I guess they just didn't want to bother doing this for me. read more

We came here on a Sunday, it was very crowded!! If you want to adopt I recommend going on a week day. The pets are taken care of very well! It is extremely clean. There are SO many to choose from. It is hard walking out of there just adopting one. They all need homes, it was very sad to see how many homeless animals they have. However it's great they are a no kill shelter. After we chose our kitten and filled out the initial paperwork we waited over an hour to start the actual process. There aren't that many staff members to assist with the adoption process so it took a veryyyyy long time. Then another 30 minutes to actually sit and fill out the adoption papers once it's your turn. All kittens/cats must be neutered before you take them home. Kittens are $84 to adopt which includes the "fix" and whatever shots they have. There is also "adopt one and get one half or free" I can't remember!? We walked in the door at 3:00 and left around6:00. I just thought that was a ridiculous amount of time. But because of how well the pets are taken care of and how clean it is I think this shelter deserves 5 stars. The staff is also very friendly and gives you a ton of information you need to take care of your new animal. We didn't really look at the other animals because we wanted a kitten! read more
