This is the best City Barbecue in Columbus. The people are so much more friendly than some of the other ones. The ones on Henderson Rd are very stoic. But this one has great food and the manager asks people as they leave about how their food was. Now how many places can you name that does that anymore?? Well I got the beef brisket that melts in your mouth. The bark is great on it as well. I also got a side of Mac and Cheese which was great. The kicker was a side of gumbo and rice. I decided to order the sampler platter of brisket, turkey, pork, and tried some of the ribs. The pork, turkey, and brisket was all dry and the sauce didn't help either I couldn't finish those meats but those ribs were legit. It was my first time to get lunch here. The brisket had some burned parts but overall was ok. The ribs were dry and hard chewy, as if they were old or sitting for awhile. Not sure if I went too early during lunch hour. It was not busy and it got busy as I was eating. I usually order their potato salad with anything I get because it's the best next to my moms which is hard to do. Well this time I got the potato salad and was so excited because I had been craving it! Only to be disappointed because it had a very strong tang to it!! Now all potato salad people one who make it and eat it know that regular non mustard potato salad should never have a tang let alone a tang that stays on ur tongue for15mins no lie!!! So I called to tell them to make sure they don't sell anymore only to be told "we make a fresh batch daily" so anyone who ate at REYNOLDSBURG CITY BBQ ON 8/12/15 AND GIT POTATO SALAD AND GOT SICK THATS WHY!! I told the manager Marty I have had their potato salad 100's of times and something is off. He just told me I can send u a coupon or give u a new one Friday. The point is that maybe someone cut up potatoes ahead of time forgot to date and put in the walk in so whoever is new or lazy or doesn't care about your customers just threw some rotten potatoes in the batch. I know this because my father is a chef of 20 years. So sorry to say I'm not eating at that city BBQ again and told my parents not to my friends not to u can keep ur lil potato salad make up dish! The 5979 E. Main Street location in Reynoldsburg is the worst City Barbeque location in Columbus. While the food may be great the customer service is the worst, especially when receiving orders over the phone and when dealing with customers who come in to pick up orders. The staff is very rude and does not provide good customer service. This location needs to learn lessons from the 600 S. State Street location in Westerville which consistently provides excellent customer service. I will be sure to avoid this location and recommend that my coworkers do the same. No one should have to be treated so poorly especially when giving business to City Barbeque. read more

The food here is most definitely delicious. I love most of the sides and I like their lemonade. I do, however, have one small problem with them: their utensils are dirty. Every time I go I find myself cleaning my fork and spoon with a wet napkin. They have streaks and smudges, as if they were given a single, quick wipe before thrown into the dishwasher (and hopefully sanitizer) or someone had taken one more lick of their utensil before returning it to the bin. If this is something that would bother you I suggest bringing plastic ware with you. read more

Ok, the brisket sandwich, perfect smoke ring, good not great fat level, tad dry but to be expected via carry out, order was correct, one major gripe. Brisket is quality meat, But the only way to slice and serve, because even when really tender, it is stringy and difficult to eat if sliced the wrong way and this WAS, Brisket needs to ALWAYS be sliced across the grain. if not. Delicious Southern Style Bar-B-Que is what it's about from the Brisket that rivals Mesquite Texas to the Brush Fire pulled pork sandwich that rivals Memphis this the place to go if you are in Columbus and in need of some home cooking. The greens are great, the hush puppies are to die for and too many for one sitting. The Peach Cobbler is hot, but too bready and tart for my taste. The prices are well within reason and you get plenty of everything. If you're hungry and in town check it out. They've got the sausages and chicken too. Oh, and they've got Cheerwine and Nehi's also; orange, grape, and pink I think. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Oh, and bring a unique barbecue sauce and they might just give you a t-shirt or ball cap. Even Carolinians will like this place because they've got the mustard BBQ sauce too. read more

Over the years I have frequented City BBQ in Gahanna and this Main St location. Food is still good, but prices keep getting higher, while the portions keep getting smaller. Today, my staff and I brought in our wonderful group of special needs individuals to this location. First off, when we called ahead to let them know we were coming (because there are around 40 of us all together) they said they had the perfect room, their "party room" that they could have us in. Not only that, but that they would provide a buffet style lunch for our group including: Pulled chicken, green beans, mac and cheese, sausage and drinks all for our $10 a piece budget! As soon as we arrived, the owner of the location came right into the room an introduced himself to everyone. He also asked me several times if we needed anything. We had a wonderful waitress assigned to our room and she was so attentive and caring. They made enough food for all of us and also refilled the food trays so they could have seconds! The cornbread was not good at all (Boston market's is MUCH better), the hush puppies tasted like they had been done in a dirty fish-fryer, and the ribs were dried out and burnt. I appreciate the friendliness of the staff and I like the fact that the food is always hot and ready. I've never really had a long wait to get food here. I also appreciate the fact that the restaurant offers the Tuesday rib special, which allows me to get enough food to feed my family of 5 without a large sticker shock.
