Everything about our family visit today to the newly remodeled store in Reynoldsburg was outstanding. The food met expectations as it aways does. The staff was super-friendly, A+ as well. I personally don't eat out that often but the next time, I will try your new store that is closer to home (in Delaware). It is with a heavy heart that I give a one star to this location of City BBQ. This is usually our go to, gold standard place to go when we want great, authentic, good quality bbq. We went yesterday, July 4, 2022 and picked up a take out order of 2 full slabs of ribs and sides. They were very busy which was expected and did not bother me a bit as we waited around 10 minutes or so for our order. We were drooling all the way smelling the bbq aroma in the air! The customer service was nice. They were friendly but just very rushed and busy as understandable on a July 4th would be. So we get home and open the ribs package up. They looked amazing!! I couldn't wait to dig in! They did not look burnt or overdone so I was excited to binge on them. I went to cut one off and it was very hard to get one off. First sign but I still had hope. When I bit into them they had this very strange chewy, gritty, almost rubbery texture. Almost as if possibly they were pulled out of cooking/ smoking too early. There was hardly any meat and when you did get a bit it was certainly not the taste and texture that their usually to die for ribs have. I even thought maybe it was just that slab so I tried one off the other and the same. I know what City BBQ ribs are supposed to taste like . It's our go to place and I love them. But we haven't been to City BBQ for maybe 6 months lately, so I'm not sure if this was due to the rush and they pulled the ribs too soon or if they changed ribs, or something else? Honestly, they were not even remotely good. I've had them some days a little too done or a skimpy rib there but the taste was always bone sucking good. And I licked it clean. Not this time! I cut off a few ribs from each slab and ate them. It was not enjoyable and almost a weird experience. Every bite I was thinking what it wrong with these, am I going to get sick? Luckily I did not get sick, it's the next morning. My mom had the exact same experience as me. The ribs were so strange and she only my ate a few! And you could see her face with each bite like an inquisitive look and like what is going on, what is this, look. You know it's bad when you only eat a few ribs out of 2 slabs of City BBQ ribs. They looked picturesque. You usually can't stop! That's why I got so many. I am truly disappointed. The sides were good as usual but the ribs were not. I'm Not a picky eater. I never send food back. I always eat something unless it looks unsafe or has majorly something wrong with it. There were several other people waiting on take out orders of ribs. I'm almost certain they must have had the same experience. We saw them taking the ribs out of the cooker/smoker by 2-3 slabs at a time and walking them into the kitchen swinging door. So I know they were fresh. I don't think they were done? Or something else? I'm not an expert, but something was off for sure! I may give them another shot perhaps on a Tuesday bone sale day. But it certainly won't be my main entree. I'll get something else and a few bones just to taste them. I'm rooting for you City BBQ! You're my only hope and go to place! This location must have been a Denny's or similar in the past, the building is rather old and in poor condition certainly not up to other city barbecue restaurants. We've ordered delivery from here a few times since COVID took hold. The food is amazing, and they're usually very good about sending correct orders. We're a gluten free household, they're excellent when it comes to keeping the gluten free precautions in place. They change gloves, use clean utensils, ask if this is an order for a person with allergies vs a diet choice-- something you should ALWAYS notate in your order if using a delivery service and you have Celiacs!! I go to the gym behind this place so I decided to stop by after for a post workout meal. I got the pulled pork and apparently food poisoning as well. That night and next couple of days i was throwing up and had really really bad heartburn and was shitting liquid out pretty much. I was already told not to go here but I wanted to see for myself. CONSISTENCY! That's important. Food, cleanliness, service. I know exactly what I can expect every time. The BBQ is not Columbus best, but Top 3 for sure. I love the fact that they have smoked turkey. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. Most Columbus BBQ shacks only do turkey wings. I think it's important that you are presented with the meat naked of any sauce. Most of you will say DUH, but know there are plenty that don't. It stands up on its own. Love that smoke ring and bark. Everyone of the meats have been wonderful. Check out Tuesday "Buck a Bone" night on ribs. If it's busy, watch the weigh. They have shorted me twice, but corrected it immediately, once while there, and once from home on my scale(next visit). The prices are always right in line for BBQ. I would be re-miss if I didn't stand up and salute CBBQ for their Veterans Day special for veterans. I usually join a group of vets here after a big morning of ceremonies. Handshakes, and sincere Thanks from the staff to all vets. Decorations make it feel special. They have even taken care of a few of our spouses as well. I think I have had almost all the side dishes. I have my favorites. I love that the green beans are so well seasoned. The baked beans have chunks of brisket in each portion. The mac n cheese is creamy. Sauce.. Regular, Sweet, and Brushfire are all kept in a warming station out at the customer condiment station. That is a HUGE bonus in my every opinion. Adding cold condiments to hot food is a no no. I think of it as lazy. You have to ask for the honey mustard bbq sauce. I was never sure why it isn't out front. It's my wife's favorite. We have tried others in shacks, stores, and restaurants. This is consistently her favorite. Myself, I usually get a bottle of Brushfire to go also. I think most will enjoy the condiment station, with the tool box of packets, or the troughs of pickles(blech). Tip for you- If taking a sandwich home, ask for the bread on the side, so it's not soggy from all that moist meat juice. Next Tip- Get a dessert. Absolutely excellent! They legit have the best beef brisket ever, it is delicious! Especially with their brush fire sauce (like a spicy BBQ) it's really so freaking good! Their sides are bomb as well, I like to get macaroni, potato salad and corn pudding. The corn pudding is great! It was a little over cooked this time but since it's usually so amazing I'll let it slide lol. I've also had their baked beans with brisket in it and they're good as well! I can understand an off day but the last three times I have visited this location I have had bad experiences. Most recently, today I ordered pulled pork sandwich and fries. Got home and the pork was sliced and not pulled and almost 100% fat. The fries were undercooked and soggy. Pulled off the interstate to get a steak at Texas Roadhouse... the place was trashed and the mannerisms of the employees indicated a terrible food experience about to happen. So, I left. I love City BBQ; quite undeniably so. What's to like about them you ask? Here's my (not so) short list. 1. The staff - I've been going to this particular location for at least 8 years, and love that there are employees that have been there just as long. I've watched the young ones move from high school to college and stay employed here. That's pretty awesome to me. The staff is friendly, sometimes sassy, and almost always adorable. 2. The brisket - seriously, is this not the best brisket you've had??!! It's so delicious, tender and scrumptious. Grab a couple of sides and Texas toast - oooh chile! You'll be eating good! 3. The sides - Speaking of sides can I shout out the green beans with pork?! I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about the mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, fried pickles, and collard greens. I could legit just order sides and be content. 4. The Fries - Yes, yes, the fries are sides, but if you do it right the fries can become your meal! Add some cheese, get a side of meat or throw on the bacon and dig in. Absolutely the best fries in Columbus for me. 5. The Lemonade - It's made in house. It's tangy and delicious and goes great with vodka. SOLD! 6. The Drinks - This feels like a perfect time to talk about the bottled beer and soda. I am especially found of the ginger beer (non-alcoholic). There are also fountain drink options and that sweet tea on tap! 7. Buck-Bone-Tuesday - While the bones aren't truly a dollar anymore, this was one of the coolest marketing schemes for me and I still call it Buck-A-Bone Tuesday even though its more like almost two bucks a bone. As one of their signs says, it's all about the food! And the food is great! I ordered the pick 2 meal....I got Ribs and pulled chicken, Brisket chili and Mac N Cheese. Portion sizes were good but no flavor in any of the meats. Was let down when I bit into the ribs and had no smoke flavor, the pulled chicken was bland and dry. Mac N Cheese was nothing special. Brand new restaurant. And I'm going to assume, new management. Because the previous management would never allow their customers to wait 30 minutes for a meal when having at least 20 workers clocked in. It was an unorganized, chaotic, hot mess. Drive through workers, yelling orders. Pick up counter worker, there, then not there. I literally walked in, placed my order, sat down & watched the chaos. After 20 min, I went and stood at the counter, with about 15 other customers, and watched closely, how un organized the workers were. WITH the manager/owner, back there yelling orders adding to the already hot mess CHAOS! I thought I would give it 1 more chance. I went on Saturday, this time through the drive threw. I ask "do you still have your lun (ch)...." and was cut off while speaking with.., "NO, NO WE DO NOT".... that was my que. I drove off. I live 2 min from this location for 15 years. Terrible customer service. Called in an order for pick up arrived went to pick up counter and gave name for order to employee she told me order wasn't ready yet and would let me know when it was. So I sat at table facing the counter. (This was at around 2pm on a Thursday so it was slow.) As time passed I was watching the workers talking and laughing amongst themselves and eventually saw one of the workers bring a bag to the pick up counter and sat it on the counter. So i sat there over 10 mins watching workers including the lady who I checked in with walk past the bag several times about 15 mins that the bag was just sitting on the counter I walk up and one of the workers asked if I needed help I gave them my name again and they handed me the bag like here you go! I asked them so my orders been ready this whole time and noone has called me to let me know? I see the person I assumed was the manager watching the whole thing happen and asked him if he was the manager.. he said no 'm the general manager..I told him Ive been sitting here waiting for my order this whole time and no one has called me ...his response was "Yeah I know I seen you eyeballing me the whole time.... you should have come up and asked" I said "I was told by your employee I would be informed when it was ready now my food is cold and Ive been here for 30mins for nothing." His response was "what do you want me to do about it?" in an oh-well tone of voice. I told him "do better in customer service". Seriously, all it would have taken is a simple acknowledgement and apology but to go out of your way to voluntary make rude and sarcastic comments and not take on accountability is just wrong. Nice staff. The hush puppies are the best I have had. We had a combo plate that had their turkey, pork, brisket and sausage. I liked the turkey a lot. Everything was fine. I liked that you wait in a line and order and they call you and you get your food. The place looks like a regular sit down restaurant. I would rather not deal with waitresses and would rather get a refill when I want to and leave at will. If I lived in the area I would come here once a week. They have funny signs up everywhere and the atmosphere was enjoyable. We went back in. Get the corn pudding. Just do it. Oh, and the lemonade is great. This is now my favorite bbq place. As usual, we ordered the South Carolina, except that some weirdo decided to start calling "Lolo" - alright,, whatever, Grande, Tall, Lolo - call it whatever you'd like - it's still Rock n Roll to me. - or the South Carolina Pulled Pork Sammich. This time, though, the meat was the most tender I've ever had north of the Mason-Dixon line - and although the serving was kinda small (like a loaded slider from White Castles), the price was fair, considering what you'd pay for Roast Pork anywhere - even ordering from Kroger's and making it yourself. We didnt, however, eat in - as we rarely do. The restaurant itself always feels a little "Colden Corrally" and that's just not as fun as going home, turning on an old episode of Breaking Bad and enjoying some Lolo action. I really like this Citty BBQ. If you want to be extra fat (and sometimes we all do) you can get the Cowbell with their sides, which are great. If you are looking for something that will fill you, but not make you feel overly full, just get the Cowbell by itself. It's so worth it. I have had the mac n cheese, hush puppies and salad as sides. The hush puppies are my favorite, but it's definitely a carb overload with the sandwich. I've never had the ribs, but that is all my husband ever gets and he loves them. You should definitely check this place out. I would give it 5 stars, but I reserve the 5 stars for the places I would literally cry for if they no longer existed. Try them plain (delicious) or with one of their awesome sauces (3 types of BBQ sauce, 1 mustard BBQ sauce and the Swine Wine which is seasoned vinegar) 2. Brisket Baked Beans - they were so good and unique, I took a quart home. MUST TRY! 3. The Looloo's Pulled Pork sandwich was insane. Portion Size of the sides was too small for the money paid and couldn't serve the number as advertised. We ordered "The Mother load" that feeds 4 to 6 Plus 2 "Family Packs" that feed a family of four each. We had 6 adults and 5 young children. Not enough sides for everyone. should have been twice the amount sent and had requested plates and flatware with none received!!! I spent over $150 and prepaid over a $24 tip!!!! Poor portion size for the money!!!! Don't order from them because the sides dons't cost them very much to prepare.They offer and upgrade in side size. For a larger, regional barbeque chain, I'm a big fan. Consistency is their key to success: the people are always friendly and helpful, the food is fresh and tasty, and restaurants are clean and well-kempt. The Reynoldsburg location is the closest to me, even though it's still a 20-minute drive. (What I wouldn't do for a City that was actually in the city!) My personal fave is their BBQ chicken, which is always perfect. Their fries are also a winner. I'm usually a baked beans & potato salad kinda guy at barbeque spots, but those are actually my least favorite at City BBQ. Their collard greens are smoky, pork-y, and super tasty. And their iced tea is always fresh and delicious -- sweet or unsweet. While I don't mind dining in at the Reynoldsburg store, their call-ahead ordering is so easy (online or phone) that we almost always take it to go home. (The poor folks here have seen me in my PJs too many times to count.) read more

I'm really surprised by the high ratings this place has. I have tried the pulled pork sandwich I couldn't even finish because it was so disgusting. The macaroni and cheese was bland and barely edible. We later tried to give this place a second chance for dessert and ordered the peach cobbler and banana pudding. The pudding was okay but I took one bite of the cobbler and had to throw it away. It was burnt and had a horrible bitter taste. I will not be eating here again, the food is just disgusting. read more
