The beef brisket is very good. Four stars. Everything else drags the rating down. Mac & cheese, beans, and cornbread are all disappointing. Not so awful that I returned them, but I didn't finish them either. I tried them again on my second visit just to be sure. The pork isn't particularly tasty either, but it's not bad. The BBQ sauce is the worst. Now, I must admit that I'm unimpressed with 80% of BBQ sauces out there, but for how nice this place is and how much effort obviously went in to designing an appealing restaurant, I'd expected the sauce to be really good. It's not. They are all terrible. The customer service is very good. You walk in and they really make you feel welcome. They happily answer questions and offer suggestions. That's how I found the beef. I had pork on my first visit and the guy cutting the meat sliced off a few pieces for me to try. I didn't even ask. He just made my sammich and said I should try the beef. The peach cobbler is pretty good. Not spectacular, but passable. Having said all that, I will be back. The brisket is that good! read more

This is our "go-to" place to eat here in Northern Kentucky! The food is awesome! There are two of us so we like the City Sampler. Makes a great meal with enough for leftovers. (We upsize the two sides to pints). Best food around and you won't find better people anywhere. They greet you like you are family and make you feel like they are glad you came. I'm a BBQ expert, please read! Barbecue is my number one hobby and after living in Texas, North Carolina, and Kansas City I think I have a pretty good grasp of what real barbecue is. I have a love/hate relationship with City BBQ. It's very hard to find a consistent BBQ restaurant because it takes hours to smoke the meats and depending on when you arrive at the restaurant it may be at its freshest point or it may have been in the warmer for hours. City BBQ is definitely more on the consistently good side, especially if you eat there on a busy day like Saturday at lunch when the food is coming out nice and fresh. My big issue is that many of the meals come with garlic bread, which is great for most people, but I'm allergic to it. I always make it very clear when ordering that I do not want the garlic bread, but after three times in a row of getting garlic bread I just had to stop eating there regularly. I would have continued my once a week visit, but it was simply the bad attitude that I got every time I asked the guy packing the meal into the box to remove the bread. Two times he told me to throw it away myself and once he just gave me an evil look and threw the bread away himself. No apologies for the mistakes. Another problem I had with this restaurant is that I like to order the brisket by the pound. On a good day, the brisket is fantastic and I have eaten many of the best brisket serving joints in the US. They charge $16 a pound, which is not unreasonable, but I ask that they do not give me the regular buns, not because I am allergic but because I just don't want to make a sandwich. So, they give you 14 ounces or so of meat instead of the full 16 ounces because they count the bread as a part of the pound. So, you are literally paying $16 a pound on average for bread, which is insane! To their credit, I did complain after the third garlic bread issue and they gave me a free meal, which was very nice. I tried to refuse it but they insisted. I don't mind paying for the food when there's a mistake, no one's perfect, I just want them to fix the issue. The regional manager even reached out to me by email and offered to meet with me. I wrote him back and he never responded. It's been a year now so I think he long forgot about me. After almost a year I did return to use my free meal and the rude guy that I had issues with wasn't there. They got my order correct and the food was very good. I sure hope this continues because they have the potential to be the best BBQ joint in the area. I've tried all the meats many times and would recommend the brisket and turkey which are outstanding on the good days. The pulled pork is well above average and very consistent. I've never once had good ribs there, they are never tender enough when I get them, so I gave up on them. I always get the sausage, but it's very mediocre unless you use the sauce. The chicken is pretty good. The beef ribs are not offered often, but are good if you get a tender cut. The sauce is a solid B+ in my book. I would recommend giving them a shot and I will update my review in a couple months after a few more visits. read more

My daughter and I went out to have some BBQ last Friday night. I have picked-up their Smoked Hams and Turkeys for Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners and they are very good. I was terribly disappointed with our eat in experience last Friday. The guy at the register (the manager I believe) was terribly rude! I was confused with the overhead menu and he was not helpful and acted as if he was annoyed with every question I had. When we did get our $30 meal, it consisted of dried out crumbs of brisket, NOT SLICES. I almost choked on the pulled pork, it was so hard and dry. I have been getting the holiday meats from City BBQ, but after this visit, and very rude treatment, I'm not certain I want to spend my money there again. read more

While visiting Florence during a busy mall shopping day it was amazing to find a City BBQ so close. I really wanted good food that was familiar. I've had mixed experiences here. I liked the food in the past, but the management and service has turned me away. I was taking a group of 7 here from a nearby church and had 3 of them meet us there. Parking lot traffic at the church delayed us about 10 minutes behind our guests. In the mean time the staff talked openly about our guests and management asked them to leave to free up the table. I guess they thought the 20 somethings were deadbeats in their church clothes but when I arrived I found 1 of my guests crying from embarrassment. I usually am a west Ky barbecue snob but City Barbeque was very good! I got the lunch special, pulled pork sandwich and 2 sides. I chose hush puppies and corn pudding. After talking to one of the servers, she suggested the corn pudding or the potato salad. The corn pudding was good but when I mentioned to my friend during lunch that I would get potato salad next time a manager happened to hear me. I stopped in to try the new chili and slaw. The chili was good, but for $5.99 the bowl was small or needs a side. The slaw was good, but needs some kind of dressing. Just moved here from TX and have tried it twice. Both times we were disappointed because of the meat being very dry. I am a big fan of brisket and both times I have ordered it moist. Now if you are in the BBQ business you know what moist is. Moist is leaving some of the fat on the meat while trimming it. What moist is not, it is not giving a small cup of a very watered down gravy to keep it from drying out. Maybe my expectations of BBQ have been set high coming from a state that uses mesquite fire pits to BBQ their meats and not an oven ! read more

Is the gem of "fast food", it doesn't have a drive trough but you dont have to have a seat down meal to get it.
